• New Java EE/GlassFish Testimonial

  As you may be aware, we have been making a concerted effort to ask successful Java EE/GlassFish adopters to come forward with their stories. A number of such stories were shared at this year's GlassFish Community event at JavaOne. In addition to Adam Bien's testimonial (which we posted earlier), another story that really stands out is the one from Stephan Janssen. Stephan is one of the main organizers of Devoxx and the webmaster of the popular Parleys e-learning platform. Parleys, which won the Duke's Choice award this year, runs on GlassFish as does the Devoxx CFP/registration website. Stephan's story is particularly interesting because he talks about his reasons and experience of moving from Tomcat to GlassFish and from Spring to Java EE. See what Stephan had to say here.

• Video conference/chat tool that can be embedded in own website needed

  We are looking for a means (a tool, a commercial service) to enable a closed user group to start a live video conference in a browser, as part of the company website. Something like Skype, but embedded and available for everybody that has access to the page into which the tool is embedded. Most services require registration and the creation of a chat room on their website, or, as Skype or similar solutions, the installation of an extra software. What we need is a solution with some kind of a "hidden login", performed by the site's client script (which knows who the user is and forwards the credentials to the service). Any suggestion?

  I am writing a window program which will run from the system tray. which will ping my phpbb board site to fetch new users registration information. So with the result i can check whether the user is spam user or not. if i feel it is a spam user then i will delete that entry from the users table. before deleting the users table what are all the other table that i should delete. so that there will not be any unlinked references which will then in due course of time gets numerous and waste of disk space. so i want to know what i should do before deleting an user so that all his other activities should be cleaned off before i deleting a user.

• Chicago Architects Group &ndash; Document Generation Architectures

  Thank you to everyone who came out to the Chicago Architects Group presentation last night.  It seemed like the weather has a way of keeping a large portion of the people who registered from making the meeting.  There was some lively networking going on before and after the meeting.  I enjoyed the questions that people had during the presentation.  It helped to bring out some of the challenges with dealing with the OOXML and ODF standards from an architecture perspective. • Loosely Coupled Tabs in Java Editor

  One of the NetBeans Platform 7.1 API enhancements is the @MultiViewElement.Registration annotation. That lets you add a new tab to any existing NetBeans editor. Really powerful since I didn't need to change the sources (or even look at the sources) of the Java editor to add the "Visualizer" tab to it, as shown below: Right now, the tab doesn't show anything, that will come in the next blog entry. • Is it better to define all routes in the Global.asax than to define separately in the areas?

  I am working on a MVC 4 project that will serve as an API layer of a larger application. The developers that came before me set up separate Areas to separate different API requests (i.e Search, Customers, Products, and so forth). I am noticing that each Area has separate Area registration classes that define routes for that area. However, the routes defined are not area-specific (i.e. {controller}/{action}/{id} might be defined redundantly in a couple of areas). My instinct would be to move all of these route definitions to a common place like the Global.asax to avoid redundancy and collisions, but I am not sure if I am correct about that.

  Say my company is going to build a complicated asp.net web form education system. One of the module is web based registration. To make it flexiable, we decide to use user control(ascx) with rule-engine (work flow) regulating all business logic behide them. Thus in future,for different clients, we can simply config basic existing rules or adding new rules.(Rules stored in db or XML per client). Now the question is how to deal with the user controls (ascx)? My opinion is for different client build diffrent user control from scratch. other voice is like reuse existing user controls.
