I need to Web VPN to RDP to remote host, but I don't want to use default java RDP window. So just wondering is there any tool that can do webvpn and provide a RDP function? Thanks.
I know this is stupid: I couldn't find anything from IBM website about where to download an IBM jre (specifically, IBM jre1.6.0 J9 2.4 SR6) for a 64-bit Windows OS. Google takes me to a link which looks similar, but that jre would only work on an IBM product, I assume their own server/workstation or something like that.
So I've been stuck by this for quite some time... I couldn't believe there is no such a "previous version repository" or something similar on IBM website :(
Thanks for any suggestion in advance.
I have my VPS now, with ubuntu 9.10 OS.
I wonder about SSH.
What is it for, and how do I use it?
Also, in which order should I install apps on my server? (ex: PuTTY, IPTABLES, LAMP etc...)?
Thanks
Is there a way to boot a Windows 7 install on BootCamp from a Mac OS X Snow Leopard install. I hear that you can boot from Parrallels and VMware fusion.b
I have no OS installed, and I am trying to use a linux boot disc. However it is not a linux problem....if I just leave the computer on at the no operating system found message, it still turns off.
I thought maybe it was overheating, but I am 90% sure that is not the problem.
What else could cause this?
I should have mentioned, it's a laptop.
I have been using Windows 8 x64 Developers Preview as my primary OS on my laptop.
Unfortunately I have been unable to enable hibernate (tried through registry and through powercfg.cpl). The closest I have got is that I was able to enable hibernate on pressing of power button, but that just turns of screen and keeps everything else running, I have to force shutdown to do anything.
Do you know how I can get hibernate to work on my Dell Studio 17?
Hi,
I am looking for some software which can version control all my files on my OS (For Windows Server). So I can go back to a file 5 versions old.
I know Genie can do this but I have BackupAssist for backups which Genie also does. I need an app that just offers the above.
I have a 1300 page PDF file of a scanned book that was unfortunately not cropped when scanned. The actual book page dimensions are around 6x9", but each scanned page is 8.5x11", the size of the scanner bed.
For much smaller PDF files I could throw it into Photoshop and crop the page, but this is a huge file. What is the best way to losslessly crop all of the pages of the file, in either Windows or OS X?
Hello,
I installed Windows 7 on VMWare and it works just fine! However, when I leave the machine idling and work on my host OS, Windows 7 decides that it is a good idea to thrash disk and kill performance.
How do I disable these background processes? Is it just indexer?
We have a monitoring tool called SCOM which mainly monitors different OS related services .However, we being part of storage team would also like some of our services to be monitored.
We have HP NAS , and I am wondering what all services I can ask the other team to monitor for us and alert us if something goes wrong.
The same goes with celerra and centera what important services can be monitored .I did search but to no avail.I ‘m not finding any of the useful services..Any help in this regard is greatly appreaciated
thanks!
How does one judge potential memory and processor needs for linux web servers? Specifically, given:
A Debian or Ubuntu OS
Running a web server (apache2), and
A database (MySQL), and
A DNS server (bind), and
Being used by up to 100 concurrent users, at some points each downloading high-resolution (0.5 to 1 MB) images via a web app.
How much should one budget in terms of RAM, type of processor(s), and number of cores?
Thanks!
I see there are thousands of files in my "/tmp" directory (a CentOS machine) and almost all of them are PHP session files.
I'm worried about the possible impact this might have on my system.
Are those files ever deleted either by the OS, Apache or PHP? or I have to take care of it myself?
There must be a way to control the built-in VPN client in OS-X Snow Leopard, I simply can't find documentation about it. I want to be able to connect and disconnect while I'm ssh'd into my box remotely. Does anyone know how to do that?

Hi,
I'm working on a display piece which is an LCD monitor that is partially covered and needs to be running an application in full screen in the uncovered portion of the screen.
I have tried xvidtune on linux which gives me mode errors and switchresx on macosx which only seems to change resolution but not reposition nor resize (it stretches to full screen anyways).
I'm wondering if there's anyway to do this? Practically, I have access to any OS.
I am trying to isolate the root cause of slow transfer speeds from my host OS to a KVM client. Both are Linux.
Rsync on the host 192.168.1.72
rsync -auv --progress rut3.img /tmp/ [54.09MB/s]
Rsync to the client:
rsync -auv --progress rut3.img 192.168.1.80:/tmp/ [25.52MB/s]
I realize that there will be some TCP overhead on the transfer but over 50%? Can someone enlighten me on what could be slowing down the transfers so much?
As I understand, the virtual machine and the guest OS doubles the amount of abstraction layers (that are computationally relevant) between the user interface and the pure power of the hardware. Some of the said abstraction layers are (emulated) hardware, drivers, IO interfaces, etc.
Top-notch virtualization solutions like Xen probably eliminate a few of these complexities, but I still wonder how efficiency is achieved in these environments; and whether manageable cloud servers are really worth the performance price.
HI friends!

I'm stumped. I used to be able to write to DVDs and now I can't. I've tried different media (Memorex and Imations) I've tried different drives (internal and external) and even different OS's (Windows 7 and Linux Mint). Nothing I've done will work and it's a real problem not being able to burn DVD's.
I'm on an Acer 6930 if that helps.
Does anyone have any ideas?
I don't know why but every morning when I turn on the computer, it makes a vibrating sound. Like its case is attached to a vibrator.
But when I turn it off and turn on again using the power button(still at os choices) the sound is gone. Why is my computer creating the sound?
I have a web application in linux. When upload file, I want to save file into a Network in another server (Linux OS). I used mount -rw command to mount folder, which I want to save my file to my local folder but I still can't upload file. How can I do?
When installing CentOS (6.2), it installs a whole bunch of packages, but the installation is often very fast, it's hard to note the names of the packages. I have a couple of questions:
1) I'm guessing I could wait for the entire installation to complete and then query for the list of installed packages on the system. How do I do that?
2) Is there a printed list somewhere on the web, so I don't have to install the OS first just to get the list?
