  • Active Directory: trouble adding new DC

    - by ethrbunny
I have a domain with 3 DCs. One is starting to fail so I brought up a new one. All are running Win 2003. Problem: there appear to be replication issues between the 4 machines but I can't figure out what's causing this. All are registered with the DNS as identically as I can make them. How do I know there is a problem? Nagios is telling me that the other 3 DCs are having KCCEvent errors and the new machine is reporting "failed connectivity" errors. Doing dcdiag on the new machine reports: the host could not be resolved to an IP address. This seems crazy as I log into it using the DNS name. I can ping it from the other three machines using this DNS name as well. repadmin /showreps from the new machine says its seeing the other 3 machines. Doing the same from one of the older machines doesn't show the new machine. I've tried netdiag /repair numerous times. No luck. There are no firewalls running on any of the machines. If I look at Domain info via MMC (on the new machine) it appears that all the information is current. Users, computers, DCs.. its all there. Im puzzled as to what step(s) I've missed in adding this new machine. Suggestions? • Install Windows 8 Apps to custom directory

    - by Timothy Ford
I'm running Windows 8 Pro on a laptop. I initially installed the OS just to fiddle round with it and get to know something I'd inevitably end up having to fix for someone. The problem being I only gave the partition about 32gb and that ran out pretty quick. I'd like to install office and get used to that as well but unfortunately I'm a few gigabytes short. I'd like to know if I can change the install location of office 2013 and other apps so that I can run them from another partition because there is no space left to the right of this partition I can't extend it.

  • An image from byte to optimized web page presentation

    - by blgnklc
I get the data of the stored image on database as byte[] array; then I convert it to System.Drawing.Image like the code shown below; public System.Drawing.Image CreateImage(byte[] bytes) { System.IO.MemoryStream memoryStream = new System.IO.MemoryStream(bytes); System.Drawing.Image image = System.Drawing.Image.FromStream(memoryStream); return image; } (*) On the other hand I am planning to show a list of images on asp.net pages as the client scrolls downs the page. The more user gets down and down on the page he/she does see the more photos. So it means fast page loads and rich user experience. (you may see what I mean on www.mashable.com, just take care the new loads of the photos as you scroll down.) Moreover, the returned imgae object from the method above, how can i show it in a loop dynamically using the (*) conditions above. Regards bk

  • One hard drive missing after converting from ide to ahci

    - by user700859
I have two 500GB SATA HDD in my desktop running XP. After converting from IDE to AHCI, the HDD I use to store data can no longer be accessed from XP. It shows only the first partition as 150GB, and data type is listed as RAW. However, if I boot into a live linux environment or if I pull that HDD out and connect it using USB, I can still get to all my files again. So I completely formatted the HDD into one single partition. But XP still does not recognize it. It still shows the disk as the 150GB partition and data type is still RAW. What's going on and how do I fix this? Thanks in advance.

  • Getting a pid of a process created in C#

    - by Adrian
Lets say that I'm trying to create a new process with the following code: System.Diagnostics.Process p = new System.Diagnostics.Process(); p.StartInfo.WorkingDirectory = System.IO.Path.GetDirectoryName(System.Reflection.Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly().GetName().CodeBase); p.StartInfo.FileName = System.IO.Path.GetDirectoryName(System.Reflection.Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly().GetName().CodeBase) + "\\AwesomeFile.exe"; p.StartInfo.Arguments = "parameter1 parameter2"; p.StartInfo.CreateNoWindow = true; p.Start(); and right in the next line, I'll try to get a pid of that process with the following line: MessageBox.Show(p.Id); This line is giving me the "No process is associated with this object." error. Any idea as to why this error occurs?

  • FreeNAS: Can't access shares on a windows 7

    - by rzlines
I have just setup a FreeNAS server. I have formatted and added a second hard drive. And mounted the data partition of the first hard drive. I have enabled CIFS and added both the hard drives to the shares. My workgroup is default WORKGROUP, I can see other computers on my network. I can access freenas through my browser that's how I configured it. Got one more question do I need to mount my second drive, if I do what partition number do I put, as it keeps giving me the error of using the wrong partition. Also my second drive doesn't show up on the home page as available as I can only see my first drive's space there.

  • Repaint() not calling paint() in Java

    - by Joshua Auriemma
    Let me start off by saying I know I've violated some basic Java principles in this messy code, but I'm desperately trying to finish a program by Tuesday for a social science experiment, and I don't know Java, so I'm basically just fumbling through it for now. With that disclaimer out of the way, I have a separate program working where a circle is moving around the screen and the user must click on it. It works fine when its in its own separate class file, but when I add the code to my main program, it's no longer working. I don't even really understand why repaint() calls my paint() function — as far as I'm concerned, it's magic, but I've noticed that repaint() calls paint() in my test program, but not in the more complicated actual program, and I assume that's why the circle is no longer painting on my program. Entire code is below: import java.awt.Color; import java.awt.Graphics; import java.awt.Graphics2D; import java.awt.Rectangle; import javax.swing.*; import java.awt.event.*; import java.awt.geom.Ellipse2D; import java.io.FileReader; import java.io.IOException; import java.util.Calendar; public class Reflexology1 extends JFrame{ private static final long serialVersionUID = -1295261024563143679L; private Ellipse2D ball = new Ellipse2D.Double(0, 0, 25, 25); private Timer moveBallTimer; int _ballXpos, _ballYpos; JButton button1, button2; JButton movingButton; JTextArea textArea1; int buttonAClicked, buttonDClicked; private long _openTime = 0; private long _closeTime = 0; JPanel thePanel = new JPanel(); JPanel thePlacebo = new JPanel(); final JFrame frame = new JFrame("Reflexology"); final JFrame frame2 = new JFrame("The Test"); JLabel label1 = new JLabel("Press X and then click the moving dot as fast as you can."); public static void main(String[] args){ new Reflexology1(); } public Reflexology1(){ frame.setSize(600, 475); frame.setLocationRelativeTo(null); frame.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE); frame.setTitle("Reflexology 1.0"); frame.setResizable(false); frame2.setSize(600, 475); frame2.setLocationRelativeTo(null); frame2.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE); frame2.setTitle("Reflexology 1.0"); frame2.setResizable(false); button1 = new JButton("Accept"); button2 = new JButton("Decline"); //movingButton = new JButton("Click Me"); ListenForAcceptButton lForAButton = new ListenForAcceptButton(); ListenForDeclineButton lForDButton = new ListenForDeclineButton(); button1.addActionListener(lForAButton); button2.addActionListener(lForDButton); //movingButton.addActionListener(lForMButton); JTextArea textArea1 = new JTextArea(24, 50); textArea1.setText("Tracking Events\n"); textArea1.setLineWrap(true); textArea1.setWrapStyleWord(true); textArea1.setSize(15, 50); textArea1.setEditable(false); FileReader reader = null; try { reader = new FileReader("EULA.txt"); textArea1.read(reader, "EULA.txt"); } catch (IOException exception) { System.err.println("Problem loading file"); exception.printStackTrace(); } finally { if (reader != null) { try { reader.close(); } catch (IOException exception) { System.err.println("Error closing reader"); exception.printStackTrace(); } } } JScrollPane scrollBar1 = new JScrollPane(textArea1, JScrollPane.VERTICAL_SCROLLBAR_AS_NEEDED, JScrollPane.HORIZONTAL_SCROLLBAR_NEVER); AdjustmentListener listener = new MyAdjustmentListener(); thePanel.add(scrollBar1); thePanel.add(button1); thePanel.add(button2); frame.add(thePanel); ListenForMouse lForMouse = new ListenForMouse(); thePlacebo.addMouseListener(lForMouse); thePlacebo.add(label1); frame2.add(thePlacebo); ListenForWindow lForWindow = new ListenForWindow(); frame.addWindowListener(lForWindow); frame2.addKeyListener(new KeyAdapter() { public void keyPressed(KeyEvent e){ if(e.getKeyChar() == 'X' || e.getKeyChar() == 'x') {moveBallTimer.start();} } }); frame.setVisible(true); moveBallTimer = new Timer(1000, new ActionListener() { public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) { moveBall(); System.out.println("Timer started!"); repaint(); } }); addKeyListener(new KeyAdapter() { public void keyPressed(KeyEvent e) { if(frame2.isVisible()){ moveBallTimer.start(); } } }); } private class ListenForAcceptButton implements ActionListener{ public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e){ if (e.getSource() == button1){ Calendar ClCDateTime = Calendar.getInstance(); System.out.println(ClCDateTime.getTimeInMillis() - _openTime); _closeTime = ClCDateTime.getTimeInMillis() - _openTime; //frame.getContentPane().remove(thePanel); //thePlacebo.addKeyListener(lForKeys); //frame.getContentPane().add(thePlacebo); //frame.repaint(); //moveBallTimer.start(); frame.setVisible(false); frame2.setVisible(true); frame2.revalidate(); frame2.repaint(); } } } private class ListenForDeclineButton implements ActionListener{ public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e){ if (e.getSource() == button2){ JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(Reflexology1.this, "You've declined the license agreement.   • Can I install Windows OS (Windows 7) on a removable USB hard drive?

    - by Hemant
I wanted to take a sneak peak at Windows 7 so I thought of installing it. I have Windows Vista on my laptop which came pre-installed with it. I didnt want to mess with it. So I created a partition (20 GB) in my USB external hard disk and tried to install Windows 7 on that partition. But when I booted from Windows 7 DVD and selected the target partition on USB hard disk, it said it cannot be installed. Is there any way to install windows on external USB hard disk?

  • Getting a linq table to be dynamically sent to a method

    - by Damian Spaulding
I have a procedure: var Edit = (from R in Linq.Products where R.ID == RecordID select R).Single(); That I would like to make "Linq.Products" Dynamic. Something like: protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { something(Linq.Products); } public void something(Object MyObject) { System.Data.Linq.Table<Product> Dynamic = (System.Data.Linq.Table<Product>)MyObject; var Edit = (from R in Dynamic where R.ID == RecordID select R).Single(); My problem is that I my "something" method will not be able to know what table has been sent to it. so the static line: System.Data.Linq.Table Dynamic = (System.Data.Linq.Table)MyObject; Would have to reflect somthing like: System.Data.Linq.Table Dynamic = (System.Data.Linq.Table)MyObject; With being a dynamic catch all variable so that Linq can just execute the code just like I hand coded it statically. I have been pulling my hair out with this one. Please help.

  • SSIS: Update a RecordSet passed into a VB.NET ScriptTask

    - by Zambouras
What I am trying to accomplish is using this script task to continually insert into a generated RecordSet I know how to access it in the script however I do not know how to update it after my changes to the DataTable have been made. Code is Below: Dim EmailsToSend As New OleDb.OleDbDataAdapter Dim EmailsToSendDt As New DataTable("EmailsToSend") Dim CurrentEmailsToSend As New DataTable Dim EmailsToSendRow As DataRow EmailsToSendDt.Columns.Add("SiteMgrUserId", System.Type.GetType("System.Integer")) EmailsToSendDt.Columns.Add("EmailAddress", System.Type.GetType("System.String")) EmailsToSendDt.Columns.Add("EmailMessage", System.Type.GetType("System.String")) EmailsToSendRow = EmailsToSendDt.NewRow() EmailsToSendRow.Item("SiteMgrUserId") = siteMgrUserId EmailsToSendRow.Item("EmailAddress") = siteMgrEmail EmailsToSendRow.Item("EmailMessage") = EmailMessage.ToString EmailsToSend.Fill(CurrentEmailsToSend, Dts.Variables("EmailsToSend").Value) EmailsToSendDt.Merge(CurrentEmailsToSend, True) Basically my goal is to create a single row in a new data table. Get the current record set, merge the results so I have my result DataTable. Now I just need to update the ReadWriteVariable for my script. Do not know if I have to do anything special or if I can just assign it directly to the DataTable I.E. Dts.Variables("EmailsToSend").Value = EmailsToSendDt Thanks for the help in advanced.

  • Corrupted file, hard drive test?

    - by all-R
Hi guys, I'm currently on a macbook with a 1TB external hard drive connected trough a USB hub wich is connected on my macbook. The problem is, my disk, wich is partitioned in 2 (one HFS+ and one NTFS) keeps getting corrupted, recently it was my HFS+ partition, I could not repair it using the Apple's Disk utility, but was able to backup my files. Is it synonym that my hard drive is failing? Is it because of my USB hub? I also keep all my iTunes library on my external HD (HFS+ partition), and did a lot of transfer lately, adding files, removing etc. the last time, my partition got corrupted after a lot of deleted items. If anybody has an idea of what to check first, what could cause the problem, I would appreciate it :) Thanks!

  • Possible to recover older, previously deleted files with R-studio?

    - by SteveO
The files and directories on one of my ntfs partition were wiped out last time. I used R-studio to scan the partition, and it did find many files, actually more than the capacity of the partition. This is because R-studio found files that were deleted even earlier. So I wonder if it is possible to specify those files and directories deleted last time instead of those deleted earlier for recovery? R-studio has a free demo version, for which scanning is free, but recovery isn't. It is downloadable from http://www.data-recovery-software.net/Data_Recovery_Download.shtml Its manual is here http://www.r-tt.com/downloads/Recovery_Manual.pdf. I have tried my best to search for answers in the manual, but failed to find one. Their technical support is not as good as their software, and helpless usually in my opinion. Thanks!

  • slow disk writes between host and guest

    - by Jure1873
I've got a ubuntu (server kernel) on a amd x4, 4gb ram, 2x seagate sata 1 tb disks for testing virtual machines and the write performance is very slow. The two disks are in a software raid1 array, one small boot ext3 partition, 10gb system partition and the rest is a xfs partition (about 980) gb for data (virtual machines). If I'm copying files from the virtual machine to the host with rsync or scp the copy frequently stalls or goes at about 1mb/s. What's wrong? I've tried disabling barriers on xfs, increased logbufs, allocsize, but it seems nothing helps. The strange thing is that await (for example during copying) for sda is usually under 100, while for sdb is around 400. Any ideas on what could be wrong / what could I do to improve this setup?

  • Write to text file using ArrayList

I have a multiboot system that I would like to use Grub to manage. The version of Grub shipping with my Linux distro is Grub2, and it installs its equivalent of stage 1.5-2, core.img, into the remaining sectors on the first track after the MBR but before the first partition. Unfortunately, those sectors are needed by another program. I have a separate primary /boot partition. If I could only keep boot.img as my MBR but have it look in the /boot partition for core.img rather than the embedded one in the sectors immediately following the MBR, everything would work fine. Is this possible with grub2?

  • Booting ubuntu from usb hdd: GRUB menu not shown

    - by emanemos
Hello, could anyone help me to boot ubuntu-9.04 from usb hard disk? This disk contains /boot primary partition. During ubuntu installation I used "Advanced" button and asked to install GRUB to the /boot partition. Later I checked whether GRUB files are really present in this partition. They are. However, I get stuck while trying to boot. The boot menu ("ubuntu generic version", "ubuntu recovery mode", etc...) is not shown. Instead I am thrown to GRUB minimal bash-like version. I feel at a loss and have no idea why I am pointed to this minimal version. Can anybody prompt me what to do?

  • C# MultiThread Safe Class Design

    - by Robert
    I'm trying to designing a class and I'm having issues with accessing some of the nested fields and I have some concerns with how multithread safe the whole design is. I would like to know if anyone has a better idea of how this should be designed or if any changes that should be made? using System; using System.Collections; namespace SystemClass { public class Program { static void Main(string[] args) { System system = new System(); //Seems like an awkward way to access all the members dynamic deviceInstance = (((DeviceType)((DeviceGroup)system.deviceGroups[0]).deviceTypes[0]).deviceInstances[0]); Boolean checkLocked = deviceInstance.locked; //Seems like this method for accessing fields might have problems with multithreading foreach (DeviceGroup dg in system.deviceGroups) { foreach (DeviceType dt in dg.deviceTypes) { foreach (dynamic di in dt.deviceInstances) { checkLocked = di.locked; } } } } } public class System { public ArrayList deviceGroups = new ArrayList(); public System() { //API called to get names of all the DeviceGroups deviceGroups.Add(new DeviceGroup("Motherboard")); } } public class DeviceGroup { public ArrayList deviceTypes = new ArrayList(); public DeviceGroup() {} public DeviceGroup(string deviceGroupName) { //API called to get names of all the Devicetypes deviceTypes.Add(new DeviceType("Keyboard")); deviceTypes.Add(new DeviceType("Mouse")); } } public class DeviceType { public ArrayList deviceInstances = new ArrayList(); public bool deviceConnected; public DeviceType() {} public DeviceType(string DeviceType) { //API called to get hardwareIDs of all the device instances deviceInstances.Add(new Mouse("0001")); deviceInstances.Add(new Keyboard("0003")); deviceInstances.Add(new Keyboard("0004")); //Start thread CheckConnection that updates deviceConnected periodically } public void CheckConnection() { //API call to check connection and returns true this.deviceConnected = true; } } public class Keyboard { public string hardwareAddress; public bool keypress; public bool deviceConnected; public Keyboard() {} public Keyboard(string hardwareAddress) { this.hardwareAddress = hardwareAddress; //Start thread to update deviceConnected periodically } public void CheckKeyPress() { //if API returns true this.keypress = true; } } public class Mouse { public string hardwareAddress; public bool click; public Mouse() {} public Mouse(string hardwareAddress) { this.hardwareAddress = hardwareAddress; } public void CheckClick() { //if API returns true this.click = true; } } }

  • Completely formatting a USB flash drive

    - by efcjoe
I have a Verbatim Store 'n' Go drive which by default comes with software in a partition which password protects the drive. I want to erase this partition, as it only works on Windows (I'm having to look at it now through a virtual machine on my Mac). I've tried using KillDisk to totally wipe the whole thing, but it doesn't seem to work, and this password-protecting partition always remains intact. Is there any program which will completely wipe a flash drive, no questions asked? Or is there a way to do it through the Verbatim software? I have the password and everything, I just can't find a way to fully format it. Cheers.

  • How could all of my hard drives fail at once?

    - by Taylor
I have an Ubuntu 13.04 server. Today I found the box had crashed. I restarted it, and now every single hard drive's partition table is missing. (1 SSD for /boot, /, and 3 2TB drives for RAID). I have the SSD connected to a laptop VIA USB-SATA cable, and sure enough, the partition table is missing. This tells me that the Motherboard / SATA controller / software actually broke the drives, not that they just can't be read correctly. Something similar happened to only the SSD a few months ago, and I was forced to just re-partition it. How the heck could his have happened? Bad Motherboard or SATA controller?

  • How many databases to support eCommerce?

    - by Terry Lorber
I have a system with two databases, one that the customer-facing website uses, the second that is used by the "backroom" order-fulfillment system. I've been asked to run queries from the website to the backroom system. I'd rather not, it seems risky to allow web-based request to run unheeded on the internal system. Additionally, this means opening up routing in the firewall to allow external connections to the internal server. What's the best practice for eCommerce? Run the entire company off of one database? Or individual databases for each system, and middleware to connect them? Sometimes it might be necessary for the web application to pull date from the internal system, but not based on an HTTP request from the internet. I'm sure the best answer is "it depends!" So, if people have a rule of thumb for when to use middleware and when not to, I'd like to here it.
