  • Ruby string encoding problem

    - by John Prideaux
    I've looked at the other ruby/encoding related posts but haven't been able to figure out why the following is not working. Likely just because I'm dense, but here's the situation. Using Ruby 1.9 on windows. I have a set of CSV files that need some data appended to the end of each line. Whenever I run my script, the appended characters are gibberish. The input text appears to be IBM437 encoding, whereas my string I'm appending starts as US-ASCII. Nothing I've tried with respect to forcing encoding on the input strings or the append string seems to change the resultant output. I'm stumped. The current encoding version is simply the last that I tried. def append_salesperson(txt, salesperson) if txt.length > 2 return txt.chomp.force_encoding('US-ASCII') + %(, "", "", "#{salesperson}") end end salespeople = Hash[ "fname", "Record Manager"] outfile = File.open("ActData.csv", "w:US-ASCII") salespeople.each do | filename, recordManager | infile = File.open("#{filename}.txt") infile.each do |line| outfile.puts append_salesperson(line, recordManager) end infile.close end outfile.close

  • Is there a way to make this perl code capture stderr as well as stdout from a tcsh?

    - by mikelong
    open UNIT_TESTER, qq(tcsh -c "gpath $dir/$tsttgt; bin/rununittests"|); while(<UNIT_TESTER>){ reportError($ignore{testabort},$tsttgt,"test problem detected for $tsttgt:$_ ") if /core dumped/; reportError($ignore{testabort},$tsttgt,"test problem detected for $tsttgt:$_ ") if /\[ FAILED \]/; writelog($tsttgt,$_); } close UNIT_TESTER; I have tried to redirect stderr to stdout using this syntax but it didn't work: open UNIT_TESTER, qq(tcsh -c "gpath $dir/$tsttgt; bin/rununittests >& "|); I have also read the discussion on the perl FAQ but that was in relation to bash: http://www.perl.com/doc/FAQs/FAQ/oldfaq-html/Q5.15.html

  • How to implement a C# interface in F#?

    - by Anton Andreev
    I would like to implement the following C# interface in F#: using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Text; using Mono.Addins; [TypeExtensionPoint] public interface ISparqlCommand { string Name { get; } object Run(Dictionary<string, string> NamespacesDictionary, org.openrdf.repository.Repository repository, params object[] argsRest); } This is what I have tried, but it gives me: "Incomplete structured construct at or before this point in expression" #light module Module1 open System open System.Collections.Generic; type MyClass() = interface ISparqlCommand with member this.Name = "Finding the path between two tops in the Graph" member this.Run(NamespacesDictionary, repository, argsRest) = new System.Object What am I doing wrong? Maybe indentation is wrong?

  • Efficient way to organise data file in columns with Python

    - by user1700959
    I'm getting an output data file of a program which looks like this, with more than one line for each time step: 0.0000E+00 0.0000E+00 0.0000E+00 0.0000E+00 0.0000E+00 0.0000E+00 0.0000E+00 0.0000E+00 0.0000E+00 0.0000E+00 7.9819E-06 1.7724E-02 2.3383E-02 3.0048E-02 3.8603E-02 4.9581E-02 5.6635E-02 4.9991E-02 3.9052E-02 3.0399E-02 .... I want to arrange it in ten columns I have made a Python script, using regular expressions to delete \n in the proper lines, but I think that there should be a simpler more elegant way to do it, here is my script: import re with open('inputfile', encoding='utf-8') as file1: datai=file1.read() dataf=re.sub(r'(?P<nomb>( \d\.\d\d\d\dE.\d\d){8})\n','\g<nomb>',datai) with open('result.txt',mode='w',encoding='utf-8') as resultfile: resultfile.write(datof) Thanks in advance

  • javascript button click casuing Internet Explorer secuirty exception...

    - by hp
    Hello, I have a application that allows a user to choose some parameters for a powerpoint report, run the report, then allow the user to "save" or "open" the powerpoint file. I got all of that working OK. When you click on "run" report, it pops open a window which generates the report, stores it in session, then closes the window. I have a button on the main page that will export the report. So, now, when the pop up window that generates the report is finished, i use "window.opener" to call a javascript method on the main page, that will do a javascript click of the button. when this button is pressed, Internet Explorer gives me the following message : "To help protect your security, Internet Explorer blocked this site from downloading files to your computer.." Do you guys know of any tricks around this?

  • What are the exact versions of stuff you have to install in order to be able to step-debug a Scala p

    - by Alex R
    How do YOU debug a Scala program? I mean YOU as in the person posting the Answer :) Please answer only from personal experience, not from stuff you've heard or read on the Internet. You should not believe everything you read on the Internet, especially tales of complex open-source software configurations that actually work :-) The are many Java tools which claim to support Scala in some way or another, but I have so far struck out in trying to get any one of them to actually let me set a breakpoint in Scala code and step through it. These are big, major open-source IDEs I'm talking about here. The main problem in getting a debugger to work seems to be the "version hell" with fast-changing IDEs, Plug-Ins, JDKs, and the Scala language itself. Hence, the more detailed re-statement of the question is appropriate: What is the exact version number of the IDE, Plug-In, JDK, Scala, and even Operating System, that you are successfully using? My question is related to this one, but wider in scope: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2272705/how-to-debug-scala-code-when-outside-of-an-ide Thanks

  • write 2d array to a file in C (Operating system)

    - by Bobj-C
    Hello All, I used to use the code below to Write an 1D array to a File: FILE *fp; float floatValue[5] = { 1.1F, 2.2F, 3.3F, 4.4F, 5.5F }; int i; if((fp=fopen("test", "wb"))==NULL) { printf("Cannot open file.\n"); } if(fwrite(floatValue, sizeof(float), 5, fp) != 5) printf("File read error."); fclose(fp); /* read the values */ if((fp=fopen("test", "rb"))==NULL) { printf("Cannot open file.\n"); } if(fread(floatValue, sizeof(float), 5, fp) != 5) { if(feof(fp)) printf("Premature end of file."); else printf("File read error."); } fclose(fp); for(i=0; i<5; i++) printf("%f ", floatValue[i]); My question is if i want to write and read 2D array ??

  • reading and writing QByteArrays

    - by synchronicity
    I'm having trouble reading and writing QByteArray data to a file. My goal is to save QPixmap data into a QByteArray and save that QByteArray to a file (with the ability to read this QByteArray back from the file and into a QPixmap). I want to use following code from the QPixmap documentation: QPixmap pixmap(<image path>); QByteArray bytes; QBuffer buffer(&bytes); buffer.open(QIODevice::WriteOnly); pixmap.save(&buffer, "PNG"); // writes pixmap into bytes in PNG format After writing the buffer to a file, I want to be able to retrieve the QByteArray and load it back into a QPixmap using the QPixmap::loadFromData() function. Please let me know if any further clarification is needed (I'm open to alternative approaches as well, I just need to be able to read and write the QPixmap to a file! :) );

  • android spectrum analysis of streaming input

    - by TheBeeKeeper
    for a school project I am trying to make an android application that, once started, will perform a spectrum analysis of live audio received from the microphone or a bluetooth headset. I know I should be using FFT, and have been looking at moonblink's open source audio analyzer ( http://code.google.com/p/moonblink/wiki/Audalyzer ) but am not familiar with android development, and his code is turning out to be too difficult for me to work with. So I suppose my questions are, are there any easier java based, or open source android apps that do spectrum analysis I can reference? Or is there any helpful information that can be given, such as; steps that need be taken to get the microphone input, put it into an fft algorithm, then display a graph of frequency and pitch over time from its output? Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

  • How to record when user follows external links without slowing user down

    - by taw
    I want to track when user clicks external links for analytics purposes. The simplest solution is to replace all external links with links to special record-and-redirect controller, but that would slow the user unnecessarily. The second idea would be to override click event and within in $.post a message to record controller, then let the main event handler happen, which will usually be either click (open link in same tab) or middle click (open in new tab) - good either way, and the user won't have to wait for wait for my server to record it, it's fire-and-forget. (I don't care if users without Javascript don't get tracked) Is that a reasonable way to go? Or what else would be the best way to track all external link clicks?

  • C++ USB Programming

    - by JB_SO
    Hi, I am new to hardware programming(especially USB) so please bear with me and my questions. I am using C++ and I need to send/receive some data (a byte array) to/from a USB port on a microprocessor board. Now, I have done some serial port programming before and I know that for a serial port you have to open a port, setup, perform i/o and finally close the port. I am guessing to use a USB port, it is not as simple as what I mentioned above. I do know that I want to use Microsoft standard drivers and implement standard Windows IO commands to accomplish this, since I believe there are no drivers for the microprocessor board for me to interact with. If somebody can point me in the right direction as to the steps needed to "talk" to a USB port (open, setup, i/o) via standard Windows IO commands, I would truly and greatly appreciate it. Thanks you so much!!

  • Visual studio 2010 colourizers, intellisense and the rest. Where to start!!

    - by Owen
    Ok, before I begin I realize that there is a lot of documentation on this subject but I have thus far failed to get even basic colourization working for VS2010. My goal is to simply get to a point where I can open a document and everything is coloured red, from here I can implement the relevant parsing logic. Here's what I have tried/found: 1) Downloaded all the relevent SDK's and such- Found the ook sample (http://code.msdn.microsoft.com/ookLanguage) - didn't build, didn't work. 2) Knowing almost nothing about MEF read through "Implementing a Language Service By Using the Managed Package Framework" - http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb166533(v=VS.100).aspx This was pretty much a copy and paste of all the basic stuff here, and also updating some references which were out of date with the sample see: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vsx/thread/a310fe67-afd2-4592-b295-3fc86fec7996 Now, I have got to a point where when running the package MEF appears to have hooked up correctly (I know this because with the debugger open I can see that the packages initialize and FDoIdle methods are being hit). When I open a file of the extension I have registered with the ProvideLanguageExtensionAttribute everything dies as if in an endless loop, yet no debug symbols hit (though they are loaded). Looking at the ook sample and the MEF examples they seem to be totally different approaches to the same problem. In the ook sample there are notions of Clasifications and Completion controllers which aren't mentioned in the MEF example. Also, they don't seem to create a Package or Language service, so I have no idea how it should work? With the MEF example, my assumption is that I need to hook into the "IScanner.ScanTokenAndProvideInfoAboutIt" to provide syntax highlighting? Which would be fine if I could ever hit this method. So my first question I guess is which approach should I be taking here? Or do they both somehow tie together? My second questions is, where can I find a basic fully working project that implements bog standard basic syntax highlighting and intellisense or VS2010? Thirdly, in the MEF example when I created a Package there were a bunch of test projects created for me. I appears that the integration tests launch the VS2010 test rig somehow, but the test fails. It would be good to write my service with tests but I have no idea what/how I can test each interaction so any references to testing Language services would be helpful. Finally, please throw any resource/book links my way that I may find useful. Cheers, Chris. N.B. Sorry I realize this is part question part rant, but I have never been so confused.

  • How to check whether a excel file is write protected or not in C#?

    - by Pavan Navali
    Hi, I'm developing a sample application in which I have to open an excel file and check whether the file is write protercteed or not. The code is using System.Windows.Forms; using Microsoft.Office.Core; private void button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { string fileNameAndPath = @"D:\Sample\Sample1.xls"; // the above excel file is a write protected. Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Application a = new Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Application(); if (System.IO.File.Exists(fileNameAndPath)) { Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.ApplicationClass app = new Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.ApplicationClass(); // create the workbook object by opening the excel file. app.Workbooks.Open(fileNameAndPath,0,false,5,"","",true,Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.XlPlatform.xlWindows,"\t",false, true, 0,false,true,0); Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel._Workbook w = app.Workbooks.Application.ActiveWorkbook; if (w.ReadOnly) MessageBox.Show("HI"); // the above condition is true. } } I would like know whether the file is write protected or not.

  • A good F# codebase to learn from

    - by Lucas
    Hi all, I've been teaching myself F# for a while now. I've read Programming F# by Chris Smith (great book) and I've written a few small scripts for getting the job done here and there. But IMO the best way to learn a new programming language—and more importantly, the idioms that come with it—is to read a good open source codebase written in that language. Naturally, writing code in that language is crucial, but in the beginning, you're basically struggling with your own ignorance about how things should be done. You could perform certain tasks one way or the other, but it takes experience to realize the flaws and virtues of each. Even after you've gotten a firm grasp of how things work, reading the code of people who have an even firmer one helps a great deal. Most would agree that the most insightful parts of any learn-a-programming-language book are the code examples, and reading a well-written open source codebase is the next level of that. So are there any out there for F#?

  • Fastest way to convert file from latin1 to utf-8 in python.

    - by xsaero00
    I need fastest way to convert files from latin1 to utf-8 in python. The files are large ~ 2G. ( I am moving DB data ). So far I have import codecs infile = codecs.open(tmpfile, 'r', encoding='latin1') outfile = codecs.open(tmpfile1, 'w', encoding='utf-8') for line in infile: outfile.write(line) infile.close() outfile.close() but it is still slow. The conversion takes one fourth of the whole migration time. I could also use a linux command line utility if it is faster than native python code.

  • facebook api getting full posts with > 2 comments or > 4 likes

    - by ejang
    when I make the user/feed request on the Facebook Open Graph API, I get a feed object where posts with 2 comments or 4 likes don't reveal the detailed information for those specific comments. I am using https://github.com/Thuzi/facebook-node-sdk to make requests but it is very similar to the 'request' NodeJS library. I can get the full posts individually by making a separate request for that post's Open Graph ID, but this doesn't lend itself to fun code because requests are asynchronous and nesting more asynchronous calls within asynchronous calls doesn't lend itself to fun code. Any way I can obtain the full posts?
