  • Video For Windows disable FILE_FLAG_NO_BUFFERING

    - by cunzlow
    I am using Video For Window's AVIFile functions. When I use AVIFileOpen I notice that it uses the flag FILE_FLAG_NO_BUFFERING when creating the .avi file. ProcessMonitor shows the that file was created with "no buffering". This flag is causing performance issues and I was wondering if there is a way to use this function without that flag.

  • Geometric Mean: is there a built-in?

    - by doug
    i tried to find a built-in for geometric mean but couldn't. (Obviously a built-in isn't going to save me any time while working in the shell, nor do i suspect there's any difference in accuracy; for scripts i try to use built-ins as often as possible, where the (cumulative) performance gain is often noticeable. In case there isn't one (which i doubt is the case) here's mine. gm_mean = function(a){prod(a)^(1/length(a))}

  • Using Predicate of a class to Search Generic list - Faster than looping?

    - by Srikanth
    Lets say we have a generic list of Class1, typically having ~100 objects for a given session. I would like to see if the list has a particular object. ASP.NET 2.0 allows me to do this: Dim objResult as Class1 = objList.Find(objSearch) How does this approach rate when compared to a traditional For loop, looking at a performance perspective? How would this vary with increase or decrease in length of the list?

  • C++ STL list vs set

    - by mokaschitta
    Hi, what of those two is faster for random insertions and deletions? I guess list, having the values as the keys as it is with sets seems to be attractive too though. Is performance similar for iterating over the whole container? Thanks!

  • TSql Lookup function

    - by OldMan
    I have a bunch of dimension tables that have unique ID and Name fields. I need a T-SQL function that returns an ID when passed a table name and a value for the name field. I'm guessing the query would build a little query then execute it? Performance isn't an issue since this is a one time ETL thing.

  • Supressing inlining warning

    - by thetna
    I am getting inling warning such as : warning: inlining failed in call to ‘symbol_Arity’: call is unlikely and code size would grow To get rid of this i changed the makefile adding the -Winline to get rid of this. I don't get any inlining warning. But , i don't know how wise is it to do in respect of performance. Can anybody please suggest me about it?
