  • Spam in the VS2010 Extension Manager

    - by Alex DeLarge
What's with all the spam (free trials and so on from Component Source & Telerik among others) in the VS 2010 Extensions Manager. Without going to the website there is no way to know whether a listing is free or trialware so, for me, the entire user experience of the Extensions Manager is ruined. Anyone else finding this? Is there a way of suppressing these? Alex...

  • Visual Studio 2010 isn't building before a run when there are code changes. It was doing working yes

    - by jamone
I've been using using F5 (Start Debugging) for years to build the code (if its out of date), and then debug. This was working on VS 2010 also, however today it just start debugging without a build. Say I do a clean on the project, and then hit F5 instead of building it so it can run it throws an error message saying that the exe doesn't exist to run. How do I make it build first? What could have changed?

  • convert file path to string

    - by salvationishere
I am developing a c# web application with VS 2008 where I am trying to capture the physical path of the selected file. Using IE, I am finally able to retrieve this now in text variable. But I want to capture this information in string. How do I do this? Currently I am using: lb3.Text = Page.Request.PhysicalPath; And it gives me: Text = "C:\Documents and Settings\Admin\My Documents\Visual Studio 2008\Projects\AddFileToSQL\AddFileToSQL\Default.aspx"

  • Private WCF Web Service

    - by Bram
I'm kind of a newb to WCF Web Services and have created a service. Here is what I'm after: If someone vists http://somesite.com/Poo.svc they are rejected straight off the bat (404 or something) Only I can add a reference to the service in VS. What I'm after is making the WCF service totally private. Any ideas?

  • links to work items - vstf/vsts

    - by damwas
Hi, I was wondering if it is possible to create links to work items that open not through Team System Web Access but through Visual Studio 2008. For TSWA we have following links: http://mytfs:8090/wi.aspx?id=1234 We would like to include VS-links in the reports (in parallel with TSWA-links), so that users can choose the tool they want to use. Thanks, Damian

  • Can anyone explain me the source code of python "import this"?

    - by byterussian
If you open a Python interpreter, and type "import this", as you know, it prints: The Zen of Python, by Tim Peters Beautiful is better than ugly. Explicit is better than implicit. Simple is better than complex. Complex is better than complicated. Flat is better than nested. Sparse is better than dense. Readability counts. Special cases aren't special enough to break the rules. Although practicality beats purity. Errors should never pass silently. Unless explicitly silenced. In the face of ambiguity, refuse the temptation to guess. There should be one-- and preferably only one --obvious way to do it. Although that way may not be obvious at first unless you're Dutch. Now is better than never. Although never is often better than *right* now. If the implementation is hard to explain, it's a bad idea. If the implementation is easy to explain, it may be a good idea. Namespaces are one honking great idea -- let's do more of those! In the python source(Lib/this.py) this text is generated by a curios piece of code: s = """Gur Mra bs Clguba, ol Gvz Crgref Ornhgvshy vf orggre guna htyl. Rkcyvpvg vf orggre guna vzcyvpvg. • where can I download the assembly MPF.Project.NonShipping.dll?

    - by pedro
I want to use HierarchyNode class which is in the Microsoft.VisualStudio.Package namespace and the assembly is MPF.Project.NonShipping.dll. There was no assembly on the .net reference or on the COM. I searched for the file, but it was not on the machine. I also tried to google the dll if we could download it, but there was no link, whatsoever about the download. I am using VS 2008 sp1 by the way. Thanks in advance.

  • Password Validation

    - by Humpton
Hi there. Using mysql and php Is there any reason / value when checking a password to query the database using the user name and password (after sanitizing, of course) and recording a failed attempt when no rows are returned vs querying the database using the user name and then comparing the return password string? EDIT: To those who mentioned it below, yes the password is hashed up in the database.

  • Any chance to get Core Data using Tokyo Cabinet as the persistent store?

    - by dontWatchMyProfile
I watched a free high quality video with Aaron Hillegass about Core Data vs Tokyo Cabinet. Besides that this guy is amazingly funny (really, if you want to laugh now, watch it!), he shows off Tokyo Cabinet beeing about 40x faster than Core Data. I wonder if it's worth thinking about how to attach this to Core Data? Does that make any sense? Maybe as a custom atomic store or something like this?

  • Stateful EJBs in web application?

    - by Sebastien Lorber
Hello I never used stateful EJBs. I understand that a stateful EJB can be useful with a java client. But i wonder: in which case to use them on a web application? And how? Should we put these stateful beans in Session (because of stateless http)? Is it a good practice? (without debating too much about stateful vs stateless)
