  • Loading datasets from datastore and merge into single dictionary. Resource problem.

    - by fredrik
Hi, I have a productdatabase that contains products, parts and labels for each part based on langcodes. The problem I'm having and haven't got around is a huge amount of resource used to get the different datasets and merging them into a dict to suit my needs. The products in the database are based on a number of parts that is of a certain type (ie. color, size). And each part has a label for each language. I created 4 different models for this. Products, ProductParts, ProductPartTypes and ProductPartLabels. I've narrowed it down to about 10 lines of code that seams to generate the problem. As of currently I have 3 Products, 3 Types, 3 parts for each type, and 2 languages. And the request takes a wooping 5500ms to generate. for product in productData: productDict = {} typeDict = {} productDict['productName'] = product.name cache_key = 'productparts_%s' % (slugify(product.key())) partData = memcache.get(cache_key) if not partData: for type in typeData: typeDict[type.typeId] = { 'default' : '', 'optional' : [] } ## Start of problem lines ## for defaultPart in product.defaultPartsData: for label in labelsForLangCode: if label.key() in defaultPart.partLabelList: typeDict[defaultPart.type.typeId]['default'] = label.partLangLabel for optionalPart in product.optionalPartsData: for label in labelsForLangCode: if label.key() in optionalPart.partLabelList: typeDict[optionalPart.type.typeId]['optional'].append(label.partLangLabel) ## end problem lines ## memcache.add(cache_key, typeDict, 500) partData = memcache.get(cache_key) productDict['parts'] = partData productList.append(productDict) I guess the problem lies in the number of for loops is too many and have to iterate over the same data over and over again. labelForLangCode get all labels from ProductPartLabels that match the current langCode. All parts for a product is stored in a db.ListProperty(db.key). The same goes for all labels for a part. The reason I need the some what complex dict is that I want to display all data for a product with it's default parts and show a selector for the optional one. The defaultPartsData and optionaPartsData are properties in the Product Model that looks like this: @property def defaultPartsData(self): return ProductParts.gql('WHERE __key__ IN :key', key = self.defaultParts) @property def optionalPartsData(self): return ProductParts.gql('WHERE __key__ IN :key', key = self.optionalParts) When the completed dict is in the memcache it works smoothly, but isn't the memcache reset if the application goes in to hibernation? Also I would like to show the page for first time user(memcache empty) with out the enormous delay. Also as I said above, this is only a small amount of parts/product. What will the result be when it's 30 products with 100 parts. Is one solution to create a scheduled task to cache it in the memcache every hour? It this efficient? I know this is alot to take in, but I'm stuck. I've been at this for about 12 hours straight. And can't figure out a solution. ..fredrik

  • How can I call a GWT RPC method on a server from a non GWT (but Java) gapplication?

    - by hansi
I have a regular Java application and want to access an GWT RPC endpoint. Any idea how to make this happen? My GWT application is on a GAE/J and I could use REST for example but I already have the GWT RPC endpoints and don't want to build another façade. Yes, I have seen http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1330318/invoke-a-gwt-rpc-service-from-java-directly, but this discussion goes into a different direction.

  • Instantiate a model when the kind of model needed is represented as a string argument

    - by indiehacker
My input data is a string representing the kind of datastore model I want to make. In python, I am using the eval() function to instantiate the model (below code), but this seems overly complex so I was wondering if there is a simpler way people normally do this? >>>model_kind="TextPixels" >>>key_name_eval="key_name" >>>key_name="key_name" >>>kwargs {'lat': [0, 1, 2, 3], 'stringText': 'boris, ted', 'lon': [0, 1, 2, 8], 'zooms': [0, 10]} >>>obj=eval( model_type + '(key_name='+tester+ ',**kwargs )' ) >>>obj <datamodel.TextPixels object at 0xed8808c>

  • Problems with i18n using django translation on App-Engine with Korean and Hindi

    - by Greg
I've got a setup based on the post here, and it works perfectly. Adding more languages to the mix, it recognises them fine, except for Korean (ko) and Hindi (hi). Chinese/Japanese/Hebrew are all fine, so nothing to do with encodings/charsets I don't think. Taking a look into the django code inside the app-engine SDK, I notice that all the languages that I'm using except for ko and hi are ones that ship with django - in the default settings.py and inside the locale folder they are missing. If I copy one of the locale folders inside the /usr/local/google_appengine/lib/django[...]/conf/locale and rename it to be 'ko', then it starts working in my app, but I won't be able to replicate this modification when I deploy to app-engine, so need a bit of help understanding what I might be doing wrong. my settings.py is definitely being taken into account, as if I remove languages from there then they stop working (as they should). If I copied the django modules into my app, under 'lib' there say, could I use those instead of the ones app-engine tries to use, maybe? I'm brand new to python/django/app-engine, and developing on a Mac with Leopard, if that makes any difference. I have the latest app-engine SDK as of tuesday.

  • Difference in displaying inner div between IE and Chrome

    - by Gaara
I have this code that has one "outerDIV" that contains an "innerDIV". On chrome the "innerDIV" size is 491px, whereas on IE it is 425px (same as outerDIV). Hence, on Chrome I can see the first two children of "innerdiv": "My test string #1" and "test2". But for IE I can only see the first child. I am not quite sure what the "right" behavior should be, as firefox does the same as IE. However I would like to have IE do the same as Chrome. I have been experimenting with some css styles (mainly overflow and display), but still can't make it right: IE will expand its height instead of its width to make the elements fit. Can you guys help me figure out a way to change the css so that IE will wraps the div elements inline? As a restriction though, I cannot change the width on the HTML. As a benefit, I am using a css that only loads for IE to patch these kind of IE inconsistencies. The same css will NOT load for chrome, so I don't need to worry about messing with chrome when changing the IE CSS. Thanks in advance! <html> <head> <style type="text/css"> <!-- body { font-family: helvetica; } .myContainer { overflow: hidden; border: 1px solid rgba(0, 0, 0, .5); font-size: 14pt; height: 49px; line-height: 49px; overflow: hidden; display: block; } .myContainer > DIV { float: left; white-space: nowrap; display: block; } .myContainer .item:first-child { padding-left: 10px; } .myContainer .item { float: left; padding-right: 32px; } --> </style> </head> <body> <div id="outerDIV" class="myContainer" style="display: block; width: 425px;"> <div id="innerDIV"> <div class="item"> --------My test string #1-------- </div> <div class="item"> ------test2------- </div> <div class="item"> test </div> </div> </div> </body> </html>

  • Is there a way to extract the message from a JavaScript dialog in Chrome?

    - by Samuel
I’ve been working on an extension for automating tests in Chrome, and I came across an obscure issue with JavaScript dialogs. The message shown in the dialog can’t be readily retrieved/copied. I’ve used the GetWindowText and InternalGetWindowText functions, but they only return the title of the dialog and the text from the buttons, not the actual message itself. I even looked at programs that extract text from forms, but no luck. So does anyone know of a way to retrieve the text from these JavaScript dialogs in Chrome?

  • contentscript, dynamic created iframe, postmessage

    - by thefoyer
I'm attempting to inject an iframe from a content script. From the content script, post a message to the iframe, without much success. This is the closest I have got. No errors/warnings in the console but it doesn't work (alert test). contentscript: var iframe = document.createElement("iframe"); iframe.setAttribute("src", "https://www.com/iframe.php"); iframe.id = "iframe01"; document.getElementsByTagName("body")[0].appendChild(iframe); //then I inject this "web_accessible_resources" script var script = document.createElement("script"); script.type = "text/javascript"; script.src = chrome.extension.getURL("postMessage.js"); document.getElementsByTagName("head")[0].appendChild(script); postMessage.js window.postMessage({msg: "test"}, "*"); I've also tried top.postMessage({msg: "test"}, "*"); And var iframe = document.getElementById('iframe01'); iframe.contentWindow.postMessage({msg: "test"}, "*"); EDIT: I tried to make sure the iframe was loaded before postMessage, even if I put an alert there, it would alert telling me the iframe was loaded. var iframe = document.getElementById('iframe01'); if (ifrm_prsto.contentWindow.document) //do postMessage EDIT2: I did get it to work by moving the iframe from the contentscript to the inject.js script. Wasn't totally ideal but I do have it working now, I guess. iframe.php window.addEventListener("message", function(e) {alert("test");}); I am however able to do the reverse, talk to the parent script from the iframe.

  • "Detecting" and loading of "plugins" in GAE

    - by Patrick Cornelissen
Hi! I have a "plugin like" architecture and I want to create one instance of each class that implements a dedicated interface and put these in a cache. (To have a singleton-ish effect). The plugins will be provided as jars and put into the app engine war file before the app is uploaded. I have tried to use the ClassPathScanningCandidateComponentProvider as I'm using spring anyway, but this didn't work. The provider complained that it was not able to find the HttpServletResponse class file while scanning the classpath. I can't get around this, when I add the servlet jar, then I'll get of course problems, because the same jar is also provided by the GAE. If I don't, I'm getting the error above... So I tried to add a static initialization code, but of course this doesn't work, because the class is initialized when it's instantiated for the first time. (Well I knew that but it was worth a try) The last chance I currently see is that I create a properties file with all plugin classes when the package is created, but this requires writing of a maven plugin etc. and I'd like to avoid that. Is there something that I am missing?

  • Fixing Chrome resizing behaviour

    - by bobo
<div style="background-color:red;width: 300px;"> <div style="float:left;border:1px solid yellow;">AAA AAA AAA</div> <div style="float:left;border:1px solid green;">BBB BBB BBB</div> <div style="clear:both;"></div> </div> Pasting the above HTML here: http://htmledit.squarefree.com/ And then zoom out in Chrome, you will see that <div> B will eventually be forced down to the next row. If you do the same thing in Firefox and IE, both <div> A and B will stay on the same row. Adding a height attribute on the parent <div> may help, but if the height of the content is not known beforehand, this will not be feasible. I would like to know how this problem can be fixed in Chrome. Many thanks to you all. EDIT: uploaded a screenshot here: http://img52.imageshack.us/i/screenshot1xd.jpg/

  • I expect to see in the browswer "http://path/some_page.html" but instead it identifies with "http:/

    - by indiehacker
I am developing with app engine SDK. I have a feeling this is much too basic a question so apologies ahead of time... A simple submit button doesnt work instead of just showing an alert box as expected it continues on afterwards and redirects me to the latest http-request, and I think this is because I dont understand how to tell the browser to recognize the proper URLs. Why does my browser say I am at the most recent http-request http://localhost:8080/putProjectInDB rather than the somepage.html that was actually served to the browser that I am currently looking at? How can I get the browser to recognize and show in its url spot the normal expected http://somepage.html ? Just in case, here are details of the specific problem which you might be able to ignore for answering the question: This hasnt been mattered for me until I just wanted to put into my .html a simple button that changes some stuff of the page without needing the server. The below code after displaying the alert box redirects me to the last server request http://localhost:8080/putProjectInDB instead of just staying in the same html page. in header: function MyFormCommands() { alert('Some Text'); } in body: <form onSubmit="MyFormCommands()" ><input type=submit ></form >

  • Query distinct list of choices for Django form with App Engine Datastore

    - by Brian
I've been trying to figure this out for hours across a couple of days, and can not get it to work. I've been everywhere. I'll continue trying to figure it out, but was hoping for a quicker solution. I'm using App Engine datastore + Django. Using a query in a view and custom forms, I was able to get a list to the form but then I was not able to post. I have been trying to figure out how to dynamically add the choices as part of the Django form... I've tried various ways with no success. Help! Below are the two models. I'd like to get a distinct list of address_id to show in the location field in InfoForm. This fields could (and maybe should) be named the same, but I thought it'd be easier if they were named different. class Info(db.Model): user = db.UserProperty() location = db.StringProperty() info = db.StringProperty() created = db.DateTimeProperty(auto_now_add=True) modified = db.DateTimeProperty(auto_now=True) class Locations(db.Model): user = db.UserProperty() address_id = db.StringProperty() address = db.StringProperty() class InfoForm(djangoforms.ModelForm): info = forms.ChoiceField(choices=INFO_CHOICES) location = forms.ChoiceField() class Meta: model = Info exclude = ['user','created','modified']

    I have code that returns an http response, but it also includes the content of the page. How can I create a response from scratch so it won't include anything except what I put in it? My code now: GCheckout.AutoGen.NotificationAcknowledgment response = new GCheckout.AutoGen.NotificationAcknowledgment(); response.serialnumber = serialNumber; HttpContext.Current.Response.Clear(); HttpContext.Current.Response.BinaryWrite(GCheckout.Util.EncodeHelper.Serialize(response)); HttpContext.Current.Response.StatusCode = 200;
