  • Routing is using ID has action and action has ID after submitting a form

    - by Victor Martins
    I have a model User that has_one user_profile and a User_Profile belongs_to user in the User controller I have: def personal @user = User.find_by_id(params[:id]) @user_profile = @user.user_profile @user_profile ||= @user.build_user_profile end def update_personal @user = User.find_by_id(params[:id]) if @user.user_profile.update_attributes(params[:user_profile]) flash[:notice] = "OK" redirect_to @user else flash[:notice] = "Fail" render :action => 'update_personal' end end In my personal.html.erb view I have: <% semantic_form_for @user_profile, :url => { :action => "update_personal"} do |form| %> <%= form.inputs %> <%= form.buttons %> <%end%> And on the rountes I have: map.resources :users, :member => { :personal => :get, :update_personal => :put } Now the strange thing is that I can do: users/1/personal to see the form but when I submit I get this error: Unknown action No action responded to 1. It's trying to find an action with the name 1. Can anyone point me out on the right direction?

  • Test flash notice in layout view spec (rspec2, rails3)

    - by jbpros
Hi! I'd like to spec the fact that my application layout view prints out flash notices. However the following code does not run, the flash method does not exist in view specs (as opposed to controller specs where it works perfectly): describe 'layouts/application' do it "renders flash notices" do flash[:notice] = "This is a notice!" render response.should contain "This is a notice!" end end Is my code wrong or is it a "not-yet-implemented feature" in Rspec 2? I'm on Rails3 and Rspec2 from its master branch on Git. Thanks!

  • rake task via cron problem loading rubygems

    - by Matenia Rossides
I have managed to get a cron job to run a rake task by doing the following: cd /home/myusername/approotlocation/ && /usr/bin/rake sendnewsletter RAILS_ENV=development i have checked with which ruby and which rake to make sure the paths are correct (from bash) the job looks like it wants to run as i get the following email from the cron daemon when it completes Missing these required gems: chronic whenever searchlogic adzap-ar_mailer twitter gdata bitly ruby-recaptcha You're running: ruby 1.8.7.22 at /usr/bin/ruby rubygems 1.3.5 at /home/myusername/gems, /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8 Run `rake gems:install` to install the missing gems. (in /home/myusername/approotlocation) my custom rake file within lib/tasks is as follows: task :sendnewsletter => :environment do require 'rubygems' require 'chronic' require 'whenever' require 'searchlogic' require 'adzap-ar_mailer' require 'twitter' require 'gdata' require 'bitly' require 'ruby-recaptcha' @recipients = Subscription.all(:conditions => {:active => true}) for user in @recipients Email.send_later(:deliver_send_newsletter,user) end end with or without the require items, it still gives me the same error ... can anyone shed some light on this? or alternatively advise me on how to make a custom file within the script directory that will run this function (I already have a cron job working that will run and process all my delayed_jobs. Cheers!

  • Route alias, is it possible?

    - by benoror
I have a Vehicle model: map.resources :vehicles, :has_many => :suppliers Everything works great, but Vehicle has a boolean attribute is_truck. I want to make an Alias so I can get the same resources but with the "truck" word, I tried with: map.trucks '/trucks', :controller => :vehicles, :action => :index, :is_truck => true map.trucks '/trucks/by_supplier/:supplier', :controller => :vehicles, :action => :index, :is_truck => true The first one works well, but when I search within a Form the second doesn't work and searches all suppliers. Is it possible to map.resources for an alias ?

  • Sending elements of an array as arguments to a method call

    - by Bryce
I have a method that accepts the splat operator: def hello(foo, *bar) #... do some stuff end I have an array with a variable length that I'd like to send into this hello method: arr1 = ['baz', 'stuff'] arr2 = ['ding', 'dong', 'dang'] I'd like to call the method with arr1 and arr2 as arguments to that method but I keep getting hung up in that *bar is being interpreted as an array instead of individual arguments. To make things more fun, I can't change the hello method at all. I'm looking for something similar to this SO question but in ruby.

  • Why is my html getting mal-formed?

    - by alkaloids
I have the following table in a form that's embedded in a formtastic form (semantic_form_for). Everything I ask to be generated by ruby shows up, but the table gets badly mangled (essentially, the tags NEVER get formed. The table headers get drawn correctly There are 14 available_date objects that get passed, and they alternate between having a time value of 1 or 2, so this is just terribly boggling, but probably simple to fix... <table class="availability_table"> <tr> <th>Date</th> <th>Early</th> <th>Late</th> </tr> <% f.fields_for :available_dates do |ad| %> <% if ad.object.time == 1 #if this is an early shift, then start the new row %> <tr><td><%= ad.object.date.strftime('%a, %b %d, %Y') %></td> <td><%= ad.collection_select(:availability , LookupAvailability.all.collect, :id, :name) %></td> <% else #otherwise end the row with just a box%> <td><%= ad.collection_select(:availability , LookupAvailability.all.collect, :id, :name) %></td></tr> <% end %> <% end %> </table> So like I said, the form functions properly, and the objects all get updated and displayed correctly and all that, it's just that the HTML isn't getting echo'd out properly so my table is all mangled. Help!

  • Preference values - static without tables using a model with virtual attributes

    - by Mike
Im trying to eliminate two tables from my database. The tables are message_sort_options and per_page_options. These tables basically just have 5 records which are options a user can set as their preference in a preferences table. The preferences table has columns like sort_preferences and per_page_preference which both point to a record in the other two tables containing the options. How can i set up the models with virtual attributes and fixed values for the options - eliminating table lookups every time the preferences are looked up?

  • Updating protected using update_all

    - by Jack
Since you cannot use the normal 'update' and 'update_attribute' methods from ActiveRecord to update a protected attribute, is the following the best way to update an attribute for a single user? User.update_all("admin = true","id = 1") I'm guessing this doesn't lie in the 'best practice' category, so I'm just curious if there is a more appropriate way.

  • Doing will_paginate pages calculation around a record

    - by Anderson De Andrade
I'm displaying a list of events. I wanted displayed the page with the events for today by default. That was easy accomplished by: page = number_of_records_before_RECORD / number_of_pages + 1 Now I want to display the first item of today's events as the first item in that page. Maybe there is a way to generate page numbers around a record with negative values to get back.

  • Is there any web service for getting tidal information?

    - by thor
Has anyone come across a web service or plugin/code/calculation for getting information on tides - namely high and low tide times? I only need this information for one location (outwith the US) but I need it on an ongoing basis so a web service that I can hit once a day or something would be ideal.

  • Conditional relation

    - by Lowgain
I've got a model like this: Stem -id -etc And then I have Stemrelation -stem_id -related_stem_id -active I can get the related stems with the following relations class Stem < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :stemrelations has_many :related_stems, :through => :stemrelations end class Stemrelation < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :stem belongs_to :related_stem, :class_name => "Stem", :foreign_key => "related_stem_id" end But now I'd only like to get the active relations. I tried adding this to the Stem model: has_many :active_related, :through => :stemrelations, :source => :related_stem, :conditions => {:active => true} but this gives me an error becasue it tries to check the active flag on the stem model instead of the stemrelation. What do I change here? Thanks!

  • Ruby library for manipulating existing PDF

    - by simonwh
I'm searching for a library to edit already existing PDF's and add a watermark to each page, for example. Could also be blank every other page etc. There seem to be a few PDF libraries out there, but only very few of them can edit existing PDF's and I'm a bit lost on which way to go. Any recommendations? Thank you.

  • Fragment caching

    - by red5
I would like to fragment cache part of a page. On the view I have <% cache("saved_area") do %> . <% end -%> In the controller: def index read_fragment("saved_area") end In config/production: config.cache_store = :file_store, File.join(RAILS_ROOT, 'tmp', 'cache') The file was created in the tmp/cache directory. But I am not sure if the cache is being used in the request, since I presume there should be a line in the log stating that the cache is being used (and there is not).

  • Ruby does 'elseif' still exist

    - by catchmikey
I'm just learning ROR and I came across the if / else statements. I also came across 'elseif' but my text editor (textmate) doesn't pick it up as a keyword, not does the program run properly. if name == 'Chris' puts 'What a lovely name.' elseif name == 'Katy' puts 'What a lovely name!' end I'm using the book, Learn to Program, which was written several years ago. I was wondering if the 'elseif' was changed because when I simply use 'else' it seems to function properly

  • Rendering a variable with erb.

    - by TZer0
I've got the following problem: I have rhtml (html minced together with ruby inside <% % and <%= % tags) stored in a database which I want to render. The information is acquired through a query. I need to be able to evaluate the information I get from the database as though as it was normal content inside the .erb-file. What I currently have: <% @mymods.each do |mod| %> <%= render_text(mod["html"])%> <% end %> Where mod["html"] is the variable containing the rhtml-code and @mymods an array of objects from the query. I have currently no idea what function I should use (render_text does, of course, not work). Help is greatly appreciated. /TZer0
