  • ListAdapters and WrapperListAdapter algorithm

    - by Matty F
    This logic is written in a function with signature private void showDialog(final AdapterView<? extends Adapter> parent, String title, String message, final Tag subject) Is there a better way of doing this? // refresh adapter SimpleCursorAdapter adapter; if (parent.getAdapter() instanceof WrapperListAdapter) { adapter = (SimpleCursorAdapter) ((WrapperListAdapter) parent.getAdapter()).getWrappedAdapter(); } else { adapter = (SimpleCursorAdapter) parent.getAdapter(); } adapter.getCursor().requery(); adapter.notifyDataSetChanged(); Also, is there any point in having AdapterView<? extends Adapter> in the signature and not just AdapterView<?>?

  • Create NinePatch at Runtime

    - by Pedro Lopes
    Hello everybody! I have a business need to create the NinePatchDrawable objects at runtime, this is, an exterior .png image is received from a server and it has to be applied in a button's background (for example) as a nine patch. I have tried to create the NinePatchDrawable object, but the constructor asks me for a "byte[] chuck" that describes the patch. The thing is, I have no idea on how to build this chunck from a bitmap that does not have the 9patch information in it. Any ideas on this topic? Am I seeing the problem from a wrong perpective? Thanks!

  • Multiple Broadcast Messages with Less Data or Less Broadcast Messages with More Data?

    - by niko
    Hi, I am developing an application which is communicating with the server. Tha application can perform log-in and get different parameters from server. The application consists of a RESTful client (custom class for making requests), Communication Service (the service which runs in the background) and the main activity. For now I created multiple broadcast messages and multiple broadcast receivers in the main activity so when the application performs login operation a receiver (loginBroadcastReceiver) in the main activity receives a message and when another parameter is received from the server different message is broadcasted and another receiver handles the message. This way however the application performance is poor but I am not sure whether it is due to multiple broadcast receivers. Does anyone know what is the best way to exchange data between service and main activity - is it better to create a single broadcast receiver and retrieve all parameters from message or is it better to initialize multiple broadcast receivers for multiple parameters? I would appreciate if you could provide any useful resource about the topic because I'm writing the thesis and it would be good if the solution could be explained.

  • Using Ant how can I dex a directory of jars?

    - by cbeaudin
    I have a directory full of jars (felix bundles). I want to iterate through all of these jars and create dex'd versions. My intent is to deploy each of these dex'd jars as standalone apk's since they are bundles. Feel free to straighten me out if I am approaching this from the wrong direction. This first part is just to try and create a corresponding .dex file for each jar. However when I run this I am getting a "no resources specified" error coming out of Ant. Is this the right approach, or is there a simpler approach to just input a jar and output a dex'd version of that jar? The ${file} is valid as it is spitting out the name of the file in the echo command. <target name="dexBundles" description="Run dex on all the bundles"> <taskdef resource="net/sf/antcontrib/antlib.xml" classpath="${basedir}/libs/ant-contrib.jar" /> <echo>Starting</echo> <for param="file"> <path> <fileset dir="${pre.dex.dir}"> <include name="**/*.jar" /> </fileset> </path> <sequential> <echo message="@{file}" /> <echo>Converting jar file @{file} into ${post.dex.dir}/@{file}.class...</echo> <apply executable="${dx}" failonerror="true" parallel="true" verbose="true"> <arg value="--dex" /> <arg value="--output=${post.dex.dir}/${file}.dex" /> <arg path="@{file}" /> </apply> </sequential> </for> <echo>Finished</echo> </target>

  • Install APK on ICS through Eclipse

    - by roboguy12
    I rooted my Incredible and flashed an ICS rom, and I can't seem to install an app through Eclipse for testing (or by manually pushing it through adb). I know I have to change the permissions of /data/local to write and execute others in order to allow APKs to be installed, but when I adb shell into my phone and call chmod o=wx /data/local I get a message saying Bad mode. What does this mean and how do I fix it? Thanks! EDIT: According to this question I need to change the permissions of /data/local in order for this to work; I'm receiving the same errors as the OP of that question.

  • how to find end of scroll value for HorizontalScrollView

    - by DroidCoder
    i need to implement following scenario, here i have two horizontalScrollViews the upper scrollView is a main menu and lower scrollView is a submenu. when i scroll main menu,the menu which comes under center arrow will show its submenu in lower scrollview and from the lower scrollview, the submenu which comes under center arrow shows the screen for that sub-menu. here's my requirement: i've implemented it using HorizontalScrollViews and ViewFlipper and also it works but it will give correct result only when i scroll it slowly and not when scroll fast. i've used onTouch() method with a ACTION_UP event,so when i release finger from screen it will gives me getScrollX() position at that point but here i need getScrollX() position when scroll is finished/stop. here's my code:- @Override public boolean onTouch(View v, MotionEvent event) { switch (v.getId()) { case R.id.mHorizontalScrollViewMain: if (event.getAction() == KeyEvent.ACTION_UP) { Log.d("test", " " + hsvUpperTab.getScrollX() + " , "+ mViewFlipper.getChildCount()); getUpperTabScrolled(hsvUpperTab.getScrollX()); } break; case R.id.mHorizontalScrollViewSub: if (event.getAction() == KeyEvent.ACTION_UP) { Log.d("test1", " " + hsvLowerTab.getScrollX()); getLowerTabScrolled(hsvLowerTab.getScrollX()); } default: break; } return false; }

    I would like to make a LinearLayout that was created from xml invisible, and another LinearLayout visible to replace it. The replacement layout starts out as invisible. When I make the originally visible layout invisible, it still leaves space for it on the screen. How can I refresh the screen so that space is gone?

  • Dynamic ExpandableListView

    - by JLB
    Can anyone tell me how I can Dynamically add groups & children to an ExpandableListView. The purpose is to create a type of task list that I can add new items/groups to. I can populate the view with pre-filled arrays but of course can't add to them to populate the list further. The other method i tried was using the SimpleExpandableListAdapter. Using this i am able to add groups from a List but when it comes to adding children i can only add 1 item per group. public List<Map<String, String>> groupData = new ArrayList<Map<String, String>>(); public List<List<Map<String, String>>> childData = new ArrayList<List<Map<String, String>>>(); public void addGroup(String group) { Map curGroupMap = new HashMap(); groupData.add(curGroupMap); curGroupMap.put(NAME, group); //Add an empty child or else the app will crash when group is expanded. List<Map<String, String>> children = new ArrayList<Map<String, String>>(); Map<String, String> curChildMap = new HashMap<String, String>(); children.add(curChildMap); curChildMap.put(NAME, "EMPTY"); childData.add(children); updateAdapter(); } public void addChild(String child) { List children = new ArrayList(); Map curChildMap = new HashMap(); children.add(curChildMap); curChildMap.put(NAME, child); curChildMap.put(IS_EVEN, "This child is even"); childData.add(activeGroup, children); updateAdapter(); }

  • Using Website Information Without WebView

    - by Mr. Monkey
    I am very new to this, and I more looking for what information I need to study to be able to accomplish this. What I want to do is use my GUI I have built for my app, but pull the information from a website. If I have a website that looks like this: (Sorry, can't post pics yet) http:// dl.dropbox.com/u/7037695/ErrorCodeApp/FromWebsite.PNG (full website can be seen at http://www.atmequipment.com/Error-Codes) What would I need from the website so that if a user entered an error code here: http:// dl.dropbox.com/u/7037695/ErrorCodeApp/InApp.PNG It would use the search from the website, and populate the error description in my app? I know this is a huge question, I'm just looking for what is actually needed to accomplish this, and then I can start researching from there. -- Or is it even possible?

  • Can anyone share a code snippet to Update Google Documents

    - by Sana
    Hi, I am relentlessly trying to update an existing google doc with the Google Protocol Data API, but the contents do not get updated, even though the PUT runs perfectly fine with a return response code of 200. Here is the code that I am using try { HttpRequest requestPost = transport.buildPutRequest(); requestPost.url = DocsUrl.forUploadingFile(editLink); ((GoogleHeaders) requestPost.headers).setSlugFromFileName("books1.xml"); InputStreamContent content = new InputStreamContent(); File file = new File("//sdcard/books.xml"); content.setFileInput(file); content.type = "text/plain"; content.length = file.length(); System.out.println("Length of the file = "+content.length); requestPost.content = content; HttpResponse responseUpload = requestPost.execute(); System.out.println("Uploading code = "+responseUpload.statusCode); } catch (FileNotFoundException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } catch (ClientProtocolException e) { System.out.println("Client Protocol Exception"); } catch (IOException e) { handleException(e); } where editLink is the editLink edit-media link returned from google doc feeds.

  • Send Logcat output of an App to an EmailAdress

    - by Sebi
    Hi Were now testing our application with a few friends. Sometimes there are some errors which dont throw an exception. So I don't really know whats the problem was. So i thought it would be a good idea to implement a menu item which allows to send the logcat file to a email adress, so that we can examine the logcat. Unfortunately I didnt found a hint in the Internet how to extract the Logcat from a phone. How to send a email shouldn't be the problem.

  • Put an object in Handler message

    - by Tsimmi
    Hi! I need to download an image from the internet, in a different thread, and then send that image object in the handler message, to the UI thread. I already have this: ... Message msg = Message.obtain(); Bundle b = new Bundle(); b.putParcelable("MyObject", (Parcelable) object); msg.setData(b); handler.sendMessage(msg); And when I receive this message, I want to extract the object: ... public void handleMessage(Message msg) { super.handleMessage(msg); MyObject objectRcvd = (MyObject) msg.getData().getParcelable("IpTile"); addToCache(ipTile); mapView.invalidate(); } But this is giving me: ...java.lang.ClassCastException... Can anyone help? And by the way, is this the most efficient way to pass an object to the UI Thread? Thank you all!

  • Enterprise Native Mobile Application Development

    - by ahsteele
    I tend to believe that developing mobile applications in an enterprise environment is best suited by developing intranet web applications. That said I have been asked to think about whether there are specific enterprise applications that could only be accomplished or would be more successful as native applications. I am curious as to what the Stack Overflow community thinks. Note: As an organization we primarily use BlackBerry devices but are other platform curious.

  • LogCat acting patchy

    - by OceanBlue
    The LogCat output in eclipse suddenly started weird. It sometimes shows all the output as expected. Other times it just doesn't show anything - is completely blank. After some internet research, I thought Mylyn plugin might be responsible. So I tried de-selecting "Mylyn Tasks UI" & "Mylyn Team UI" on eclipse Window -- Preferences -- General -- Startup and Shutdown -- programs that are started at startup. No Luck. Has anyone else encountered & solved this problem?
