  • Mutate an object into an instance of one its subclasses

    Hi, Is it possible to mutate an object into an instance of a derived class of the initial's object class? Something like: class Base(): def __init__(self): self.a = 1 def mutate(self): self = Derived() class Derived(Base): def __init__(self): self.b = 2 But that doesn't work. >>> obj = Base() >>> obj.mutate() >>> obj.a 1 >>> obj.b AttributeError... If this isn't possible, how should I do otherwise? My problem is the following: My Base class is like a "summary", and the Derived class is the "whole thing". Of course getting the "whole thing" is a bit expensive so working on summaries as long as it is possible is the point of having these two classes. But you should be able to get it if you want, and then there's no point in having the summary anymore, so every reference to the summary should now be (or contain, at least) the whole thing. I guess I would have to create a class that can hold both, right? class Thing(): def __init__(self): self.summary = Summary() self.whole = None def get_whole_thing(self): self.whole = Whole()

    I have vendors/show view with button "Add new item" button. When i press "Add new item", it leads to items/new view with select which contain all Vendors. I want to send vendor id value to items/new, that way it will be possible to show correct Vendor on my select. How it can be done RIGHT?

  • Normalization two types of customers into one table

    I am trying to model a sales situation where you can sell to a person or to a business with a contact person. I cannot figure out the proper way to do this. It seems like 2 tables would be incorrect. But how do I model a Customer table that can be a business or a person? Would I just have a boolean for "business" and an additional "business_name" field that would default to Null. But then I have to do an if/then on the columns and that seems like poor design. Any advice, direction, or links is appreciated.

    hi i just finished essential part of my own personal 2d engine in c++ and i'm kinda deciding how to complete the part where it is actually supposed to display everything on the screen, namely when do I call that function which does the job. I don't have much idea of how does the graphic card work, my biggest experience is calling bios graphic services to write some stuff on the screen. Could you give me a hint on this pls? Or maybe some keywords I should try to google?

  • setContentView taking long time (10-15 seconds) to execute

    I have a large activity that contains 100 or more buttons. But it's working fine once loaded. Problem however is loading. From clicking its launch icon to getting the first view it takes 10-12 seconds. Until the first view, it shows gray title bar in black background. At least, I want to show a simple progress bar or dialog while its loading. But it seems like you cannot show anything before setContentView executed. I think I have tried everything I could without any success. If you can give me any hint or idea, I would be thankful. UPDATE: I found a dramatic resolution. It takes now a second to load the view. I didn't use splash, thread or async task at all - BTW, don't try to use thread or async on UI because Android UI is not thread-safe. Problem was that those buttons were based on a custom class that requires initialization to load same resource. - so 100 or more file operations were happening on setContentView. Making them a just single loading solved my problem.

    Here's the deal : I have Publication objets in my application. I also have Vote objet. I can add votes on publication. A vote is defined like this, forOrAgainst, LinkedPublication, date, author etc etc... I want to sort Publication list by number of vote. What is the best way to link them ? Should i return a hashmap ? a treeset ? How do i add votes to publication. It's kinda messy in my brain now...

    i am doing this: delete calibration_2009 from calibration_2009 join batchinfo_2009 on calibration_2009.rowid = batchinfo_2009.rowid where batchinfo_2009.reporttime like '%2010%'; both tables have about 500k lines of data i suspect that 250k match the criteria to be deleted so far it has been running for 2 hours!!! is there something wrong?

    I need to take an address that consists of "city, state" from column "location" and populate 2 new columns "city" and "state" but leave location the way it is, now I have done this with a SUBSTRING_INDEX command but I have to run the command everytime to do this, how can I make it stick? thanks in advance. also here is my substring code....     /^\d{1,2}[:][0-5][0-9]$/ is what I have. this limits minutes to 00-59. It does not, however, limit hours to between 0 and 12. For similarity and uniformity I would like to do this with RegEx alone if possible. Further-more I would like the first digit to be optional. i.e. 09:30 accepted as well as 9:30. I played around with ranges, but something out of range is always acceptable.
