  • Is there a ppa or repository where we can update LibreOffice to version 3.6?

    - by josircg
On http://www.libreoffice.org/download/ there is only RPM version - when great majority of Desktop Linux users are using systems based on APT... ppa:libreoffice/ppa seems to be very outdated with version 3.5 It's frustating to see several fixes on Windows version and Ubuntu versions so outdated... People generally reply as: we don't update due to security/stability reasons, etc example 1 example 2 why don't you compile yourself ? For those easy answers, I generally reply: let me decide which version to use at my own risk. I just want to try a newer version and I trust on LibreOffice devs. I understand that update a core lib is very dangerous but Libreoffice is an user application and it don't just break the whole system. Why don't I compile ? Because I am a regular user and don't have time to learn it. I would love to have this time but unfortunately, I don't have. Red Hat/Fedora guys have the same concerns but they update their LibreOffices...

  • Are these hacking attempts or something less sinister?

    - by Darkcat Studios
I just had a look through our web server error logs, and Terminal services is reporting: "Remote session from client name a exceeded the maximum allowed failed logon attempts. The session was forcibly terminated." Hundreds of times, every 10.5 seconds or so for a period of about 5-10 minutes, once at 2pm yesterday and once again at about 1am this morning. We CURRENTLY have RDP open to the outside, as I am just completing the setup and now and then I/Others need to jump on from an outside office/location (VPN isn't an option) As these are so regular, am I right in assuming that they may be the result of some sort of dictionary attack? or could something like an internal admin's hung session cause such a mass of events? • Why I can't open folders copied from Ubuntu on Windows?

    - by user37805
Is not possible for me to open whatever folder I copy from Ubuntu to my Windows partition or whatever usb memory. Windows says the folder's location is either disconnected or doesn't exist. Can't copy, cut or delete the folder on Windows but with Ubuntu I can. This happens even if I create the folder on the ntfs disc. I have never had this problem before. Files are openable however, but not if they are inside a folder. This started after I haven't made any other changes except for the update to kernel 3.2.0-30-generic, I am using 12.04, never installed Samba, after this problem started I tried to fix it by installing ntfs-3f, ntfsprogs, ntfs-config, but It didn't work.

  • cursor jumps when moving (and some other times)

    - by nyne
i updated to 12.10 beta 1 when it was released (coming from 12.04 fresh install, i skipped the alpha releases of 12.10) since then i've done all the usual updates but ive had an issue with my cursor jumping. it does not jump when typing, i've done a lot of searching and cant find an answer, it tends to happen most when i move the cursor the jump is maybe 15-20 pixels down and to the right it seems like a display issue because if i hover over a link or the x to close a window the cursor will settle in it's down/right position, but the whatever im hovering over will still act as if that's where the mouse is, and clicking still works on the item. so the mouse is actually in its original location, but it's displaying offset and flickering back and forth from its down/right position and its correct position this makes use very difficult because the mouse is never displayed where it actually is and i have to estimate my clicks any ideas?

  • Converting obj data to CSS3D

    - by Don Boots
    I found a ton of formulae and what not, but 3D isn't my forte so I'm at a loss of what specifically to use. My goal is to convert the data in an 3D .obj file (vertices, normals, faces) to CSS3D (width, height, rotateX,Y,Z and/or similar transforms). For example 2 simple planes g plane1 # simple along along Z axis v 0.0 0.0 0.0 v 0.0 0.0 1.0 v 0.0 1.0 1.0 v 0.0 1.0 0.0 g plane2 # plane rotated 90 degrees along Y-axis v 0.0 0.0 0.0 v 0.0 1.0 0.0 v 1.0 1.0 0.0 v 1.0 0.0 0.0 f 1 2 3 4 f 5 6 7 8 Could this data be converted to: #plane1 { width: X; height: Y; transform: rotateX(Xdeg) rotateY(Ydeg) rotateZ(Zdeg) translateZ(Zpx) } #plane2 { width: X; height: Y; transform: rotateX(Xdeg) rotateY(Ydeg) rotateZ(Zdeg) translateZ(Zpx) } /* Or something equivalent such as transform: matrix3d() */ In summary, while this may be too HTML/CSS-y for game development, the core question is how to get the X/Y/Z-rotation of a 4 point plane from it's matrix of x,y,z coordinates?

  • Upgrade Ubuntu 12.04 to 12.10 failed

    - by pre-commit-hook
I've a problem. Upgrade failed after "Setting new software channels", when Calculating changes. I tried error: Not all updates can be installed An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade: E:Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages. This can be caused by: * Upgrading to a pre-release version of Ubuntu * Running the current pre-release version of Ubuntu * Unofficial software packages not provided by Ubuntu If none of this applies, then please report this bug using the command 'ubuntu-bug ubuntu-release-upgrader-core' in a terminal. Now i have 1580 packages to update and do not update. Partial system upgrade also fails in the first step. What next? Alternatively, to undo the changes? Thank's to help.

  • Redirecting to a default (or last visited) subdirectory. Does Google like this?

    - by andufo
i have a site that has 3 web applications, lets use this example: example.com/nicy example.com/mash example.com/zoken The main application is nicy, so if the user comes for the first time (or if Google indexes my site) that will be the default choice. This is the code placed inside example.com/index.php <? header('HTTP/1.1 301 Moved Permanently'); header('Location: http://example.com/nicy'); die(); ?> Is this solution SEO friendly for Google to index the nicy subdirectory as the main entrance page for the domain? (because of the 301 redirect). Thanks!

  • Managing the Unload LPN Functionality for Inbound LPNs is as Easy as 1,2,3

    - by ToddAC-Oracle
Resolve your WMS putaway issues as easy as one, two, three by using Doc ID 1479753.1 - How To Use The Unload Functionality for Inbound LPNs [Video]. You can review Doc ID 1479753.1 and see the easy setup steps and latest patches available to get the new Unload Functionality for Inbound LPN's. In the document, you can also review the short setup and demo video. The new functionality makes LPN clean up more robust, and makes it easier to work with LPNs that are in receiving and/or have missing/corrupted open move order lines or location discrepancies. Along with the original cleanup, you can work with stuck/pending putaway transactions for many common errors such as 'Invalid LPN', 'Unsuccessful Row Construction', 'Task Errored out', 'Online transaction failed', 'Unable to allocate space' while trying to receive, and inspect or putaway LPN's.So review Doc ID 1479753.1 and save hours by using the Inbound Unload Functionality for Inbound LPN's.

  • How do I duplicate a Box2d simulation, mid-simulation?

    - by Whyte
I want to serialize the state mid-game, send it over the network to an identical computer (same CPU, same OS, same binary), load it there, and have the two games run in tandem doing the exact same simulation, without one of them drifting off and going haywire. In short: I want pop-in, pop-out networking support on my HIGHLY physics-intensive game, where sending object coordinates every few seconds is impossible, due to having thousands of objects, and many clients. I tried this with Box2D, and saving an object's location/velocity/etc wasn't enough... there's internal state that's not accessible through any public methods. My current workaround is to force EVERY client to save its entire worldstate and reload it from scratch, whenever a new player connects... but this is obviously bad practice, because it hangs the game for everyone whenever someone new connects. However, it works, with zero desynchronization. So, anyone know of any other techniques that can help me? Or should I just kiss my project goodbye?

  • Switching Workspace in Xubuntu Oneiric is slow, how to improve it?

    - by photoao
The processor is a single core AMD Sempron 1.6 GHz. While it is a few years old, workspace switching under Ubuntu Lucid / Gnome to ANY workspace was always instant, even when a lot of apps were open. Under Xubuntu Oneiric, switching to an empty workspace is instant, but switching to a workspace with 5 open applications takes 8 to 9 seconds. Compiz is not installed. Since XFCE is said to be more light weight than Gnome, switching should be instant too, isn't it ? How can this be improved ?

  • Can I get some advice on graphics cards please?

    - by Victor9098
I know that Steam for linux is on the way and have been seen a lot of games appearing in the Ubuntu Software Centre of late but my system lacks a decent graphics card and was hoping I could get some recommendations. The desktop is a Packard Bell Imedia S1800 (or Imedia D3526 UK) with the following specs; Memory: 3.8 GiB Processor: Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU E5800 @ 3.20GHz × 2 The system lists the graphics as 'unknown', though I think its just an integrated Intel card From what I can see there is a free PCI-E x16 slot. Any advice would be great, thanks!

  • Get root access for copying files to /usr/share/...?

    - by Vinaychalluru
To be short, I want to copy a folder to a location /usr/share/screenlets/..... I don't know how to do it. I am using Ubuntu 10.04. I tried by logging in as root from terminal giving "su with my password". I even changed my user account type to ADMINISTRATOR by giving the root password when asked, yet, no use. Think all of you know that, even the option PASTE in the context menu's list in the folder "/usr/share/..." is INACTIVE. How can I copy those files?

  • Is there a way to setup Clicktale tag in Google Tag Manager?

    - by Cubius
Since GTM doesn't support document.write() method the standard clicktale code doesn't work. Is there a workaround for this? ClickTale employee has sent me these instructions: Replace the document.write JS line above with the following: document.body.appendChild(externalScript); Example: <!-- ClickTale Bottom part --> <script type='text/javascript'> var externalScript = document.createElement('script'); var scrSrc = document.location.protocol=='https:'? 'https://clicktalecdn.sslcs.cdngc.net/': 'http://cdn.clicktale.net/'; scrSrc += 'www11/ptc/xxx-xxx-xxx-xxx.js'; externalScript.src = scrSrc; externalScript.type = 'text/javascript'; document.body.appendChild(externalScript); </script> <!-- ClickTale end of Bottom part --> I am not sure what to do with this. Has someone tried something like this?

  • External link tracking when opening the link in a new window in Google Analytics?

    - by evanmcd
OK, so this seems like a really simply problem, but I have yet to find a solution that accomplishes the following: Opens the link in a new window Tracks the event in GA (obviously) Doesn't trigger pop-up blockers (uses target="_blank" instead of window.open) Most of the code I've seen, including Google's, doesn't take into account the case of opening in a new window - they just window location.href. Even GAAddons (http://gaaddons.com/), which charges for commercial use, doesn't seem to work for me. Perhaps, I'm missing something simple - I'd be relieved if so and would thank profusely whoever points it out to me! If no one is able to provide an example, I'll post some of the test cases I've created to illustrate the problem. Thanks.

  • Issues with time slicing

    - by user12331
I was trying to see the effect of time slicing. And how it can consume significant amount of time. Actually, I was trying to divide a certain work into number of threads and see the effect. I have a two core processor. So two threads can run in parallel. I was trying to see if I have a work w that is done by 2 threads, and if I have the same work done by t threads with each thread doing w/t of the work. How much does time slicing play a role in it As time slicing is time consuming process, I was expecting that when I do the same work using a two thread process or by a t thread process, the amount of time taken by the t thread process will be more Any suggestions?

  • How to write the path to a Windows shared folders address in terminal?

    - by user206996
I want to permanently mount a few Windows shared folders. I googled that topic and found a lot of good answers, but with all the solutions I have a little problem: I believe I can't properly give an address of shared folder. I can find it following way: "Network" - "Windows Network" - "WORKGROUP_name" - "Computer_name" - and there is some folder i would like to mount. How can I write the path to the folders in terminal? UPD i can access needed folder throw address in location bar smb://server/ro/, but i try mount it by editing /etc/fstab file (using guide https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MountWindowsSharesPermanently) i get error mount error: could not resolve address for server: Unknown error PS in /etc/fstab : //SERVER/RO /media/server cifs username=user, password=pwd, uid=1000,iocharset=utf8 0 0

  • Examining ASP.NET's Membership, Roles, and Profile - Part 18

Membership, in a nutshell, is a framework build into the .NET Framework that supports creating, authenticating, deleting, and modifying user account information. Each user account has a set of core properties: username, password, email, a security question and answer, whether or not the account has been approved, whether or not the user is locked out of the system, and so on. These user-specific properties are certainly helpful, but they're hardly exhaustive - it's not uncommon for an application to need to track additional user-specific properties. For example, an online messageboard site might want to also also associate a signature, homepage URL, and IM address with each user account. There are two ways to associate
