• Outputting CDATA in XQuery

    - by Hans
How would I, using XQuery, transform
to
John Smith
? Also, how would I transform
<p><em>Hello</em></p>
to

Hello

? If it matters, I am using XSLPalette.app.

  • Extending ASP.NET role providers

    - by Quick Joe Smith
Because the RoleProvider interface seems to treat roles as nothing more than simple strings, I'm wondering if there is any non-hacky way to apply an optional value for a role on a per-user basis. Our current login management system implements roles as key-value pairs, where the value part is optional and usually used to clarify or limit the permissions granted by a role. For example, a role 'editor' might contain a user 'barry', but for 'barry' it will have an optional value 'raptors', which the system would interpret to mean that Barry can only edit articles filed under the 'raptors' category. I have seen elsewhere a suggestion to simply create additional delimited roles, such as 'editor.raptors' or somesuch. That's not really going to be ideal because it would bloat the number of roles greatly, and I can tell it's going to be a very hard sell to replace our current implementation (which is also very less than ideal, but has the advantage of being custom made to work with our user database). I can tell already that the concatenation method mentioned above is going to involve a lot of tedious string-splitting and partial matching. Is there a better way?

  • MVVM Light toolkit - maintained? Here today - gone tomorrow? ...

    - by mark smith
Hi there, I have been taking a look at mvvm light toolkit, i must admit i haven't got a lot of experience with it but i live what i see.. I did use the mvvm toolkit (microsoft) but currently use vs 2010 and no templates are available as yet. I was looking for some insight into mvvm light toolkit... Is it always maintained ? i..e its not going to be gone tomorrow... Or shoudl i be looking elsewhere?? I would really appreciate any feedback... I also saw some info on how it is blendable which the mvvm toolkit (microsoft) didn't seem to have.. Prism also seems to be also a likely candidate but from what i understand its not a MVVM framework / toolkit i would be using it with wpf Any help really appreciated Thank you

  • How do I persist form data across an "access denied" page in Drupal?

    - by Michael T. Smith
We're building a small sub-site that, on the front page, has a one input box form that users can submit. From there, they're taken to a page with a few more associated form fields (add more details, tag it, etc.) with the first main form field already filled in. This works splendidly, thus far. The problem comes for users that are not logged in. When they submit that first form, they're taken to a (LoginToboggan based) login page that allows them to login. After they login, they redirect to the second form page, but the first main form field isn't filled in -- in other words, the form data didn't persist. How can we store that data and have it persist across the access denied page?

  • HTML5 Canvas: How to make a loading spinner by rotating the image in degrees?

    - by Bill
I am making a loading spinner with html5 canvas. I have my graphic on the canvas but when i rotate it the image rotates off the canvas. How do I tell it to spin the graphic on its center point?

Canvas test

  • mysql - select pagination chunk that includes a given id

    - by sean smith
...before the pagination chunks have been determined. I know you can do this in multiple statements, but there must be a better way. my results are returned ordered by date and I want to return the pagination chunk that contains a given id. So I could, for example, select the date of the given id and then select a chunk of results where date is less than or greater than the date. That would work. But is there some native mysql method of doing this sort of thing in one statement? It just seems reasonable to expect that we could ask for X results in which a given id exists if results are ordered by date.

  • Help me choose between Go and Io

    - by Robert Smith
During the following months I'll have some spare time so I thought of picking up a new programming language.I've been reading some articles about Go and Io and both of them look interesting and very promising so I'm stuck making a decision about which one to pick up next. I'm mainly interested in distributed systems and concurrency. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  • Link to RSS/Atom feed, relative, doesn't work in Firefox

    - by Adrian Smith
I have a weird problem. I generate a HTML page, hosted let's say at http://www.x.com/stuff which contains

..
The result is: In IE7 all works well - you can click on the feed icon in the browser and the feed is displayed In Firefox, view source, click on the linked /stuff/feed and you see the source of the feed, so that works as expected In Firefox, view the page (not source), then click on the feed icon in the address bar, I get an error that it can't retrieve the URL feed://http//www.x.com/stuff/feed So the problem is, that it's appending feed:// to the front of the URL and then taking out the colon : after the http. I understand that feed: is HTTP anyway so perhaps the adding of that isn't a big problem. But anyway, the fact is, that URL Firefox generates out of my
tag doesn't work. I have considered making the URL absolute, but I haven't found any evidence that those URLs have to be absolute, nor can I understand why that would be the case. And for various reasons it would be inconvenient in my code to generate an absolute URL. I can do it if necessary but I would prefer to see proof (e.g. specification, or Mozilla bug report) that it's necessary before making my code messy What do you think? Does anyone know of any evidence that the URL should be absolute? Or am I doing something else wrong? It seems such a simple/obvious tag, where nothing could go wrong, but I can't get it to work.

  • JSON is used only for JavaScript?

    - by Bob Smith
I am storing a JSON string in the database that represents a set of properties. In the code behind, I export it and use it for some custom logic. Essentially, I am using it only as a storage mechanism. I understand XML is better suited for this but I read that JSON is faster and preferred. Is it a good practice to use JSON if the intention is not to use the string on the client side?

  • How do I read live camera data on the iPhone (like Microsoft Tag Reader)?

    - by Bill
While the user is still in UIImagePickerController, I'd like to be able to get a UIImage representation of the image in the camera, make some changes to the image, and then display the altered image instead of the image coming directly from the camera. How can I do this? I tried setting a timer and calling takePicture, but calling it seemed to have no effect. The documentation says: Calling this method while an image is being captured has no effect. You must wait until the associated delegate object receives an imagePickerController:didFinishPickingMediaWithInfo: message before you can capture another picture. So how can I do this? I know that it's possible, since apps like Tag Reader are able to detect when something specific rolls in front of the camera. Thanks!

  • to Imagemagick PHP exec

    - by Erik Smith
I found a very helpful post on here about cropping images in a circle. However, when I try to execute the imagemagick script using exec in PHP, I'm getting no results. I've checked to make sure the directories have the correct permissions and such. Is there a step I'm missing? Any insight would be much appreciated. Here's what my script looks like: $run = exec('convert -size 200x200 xc:none -fill daisy.jpg -draw "circle 100,100 100,1" uploads/new.png'); Edit: Imagemagick is installed.

  • Is there an equivalent to Lisp's "runtime" primitive in Scheme?

    - by Bill the Lizard
According to SICP section 1.2.6, exercise 1.22: Most Lisp implementations include a primitive called runtime that returns an integer that specifies the amount of time the system has been running (measured, for example, in microseconds). I'm using DrScheme, where runtime doesn't seem to be available, so I'm looking for a good substitute. I found in the PLT-Scheme Reference that there is a current-milliseconds primitive. Does anyone know if there's a timer in Scheme with better resolution?

  • How can I browse source code on an iPhone?

    - by Bill
I have a lot of downtime on the subway each morning and evening, and I'd like to be able to review source code for various projects I'm working on. Are there any apps that can help with this? I'd like something that lets me browse a hierarchical tree of source files and that does syntax highlighting.

  • Equality and Assigment Operators

    - by Jeremy Smith
I have a assembly compiled in VB.NET that contains two operators: Public Shared Operator =(quarterA As CalendarQuarter, quarterB As CalendarQuarter) As Boolean Return quarterA.StartDate = quarterB.StartDate AndAlso quarterA.EndDate = quarterB.EndDate AndAlso quarterA.Quarter = quarterB.Quarter End Operator Public Shared Operator <>(quarterA As CalendarQuarter, quarterB As CalendarQuarter) As Boolean Return Not (quarterA = quarterB) End Operator However, when using the assembly in C# to perform equality checks if (qtr != null) I receive the error: Cannot implicity convert type 'object' to 'bool' My original intent with the = operator was only for assignment purposes in VB, so I may be way off base (I don't use custom operators too often). What do I need to do to make the operator behave with both equality and assignment operations?

  • .net dictionary and lookup add / update

    - by freddy smith
I am sick of doing blocks of code like this for various bits of code I have: if (dict.ContainsKey[key]) { dict[key] = value; } else { dict.Add(key, value); } and for lookups (i.e. key - list of value) if (lookup.ContainsKey[key]) { lookup[key].Add(value); } else { lookup.Add(new List<valuetype>); lookup[key].Add(value); } Is there another collections lib or extension method I should use to do this in one line of code no matter what the key and value types are? e.g. dict.AddOrUpdate(key, value) lookup.AddOrUpdate(key, value)

  • mvvm-light: Should we merge Cleanup methods in locator?

    - by mark smith
Hi there, when creating a new ViewModel within the locator class using the snippet it creates a Cleanup Method but there is already one available from the Main so hence an error.... Should we merge them all?? Or should we be renaming the method to Cleanup[Name of viewmodel] for example. I am a little confused here Another question i would like to ask is regards to the naming conventions. I tried to follow the naming convention used with "MAIN"... hence i have CreateLogin, ClearLogin, Login (non static property for binding) etc etc.. Would it not be better to use CreateLoginViewModel, ClearLoginViewModel etc?? Just curious Thanks

  • i had problem in adding the additional content in my pdf...using asp.net c#

    - by Ayyappan.Anbalagan
    I am converting my data set into a pdf document.My data set contains the product bill details.So,at the top of the pdf i need to added some more content like "my company name & address customer name, date of bill,bill no" Below code i am using to convert into pdf. public static void Exportdata(DataTable dataTable, HttpResponse Response, int val) { //String filename = String.Concat(name, "-", DateTime.Today.Day.ToString(), "/", DateTime.Today.Month.ToString(), "/", DateTime.Today.Year.ToString(), ".pdf"); Document pdfDoc = new Document(PageSize.A4, 30, 30, 40, 25); System.IO.MemoryStream mStream = new System.IO.MemoryStream(); PdfWriter writer = PdfWriter.GetInstance(pdfDoc, mStream); //int cols = 0; //int rows = 0; int cols = dataTable.Columns.Count; int rows = dataTable.Rows.Count; pdfDoc.Open(); iTextSharp.text.Table pdfTable = new iTextSharp.text.Table(cols, rows); pdfTable.BorderWidth = 1; pdfTable.Width = 100; pdfTable.Padding = 1; pdfTable.Spacing = 1; //creating table headers for (int i = 0; i < cols; i++) { Cell cellCols = new Cell(); Font ColFont = FontFactory.GetFont(FontFactory.HELVETICA, 8, Font.BOLD); Chunk chunkCols = new Chunk(dataTable.Columns[i].ColumnName, ColFont); cellCols.Add(chunkCols); pdfTable.AddCell(cellCols); } //creating table data (actual result) for (int k = 0; k < rows; k++) { for (int j = 0; j < cols; j++) { Cell cellRows = new Cell(); Font RowFont = FontFactory.GetFont(FontFactory.HELVETICA, 6); Chunk chunkRows = new Chunk(dataTable.Rows[k][j].ToString(), RowFont); cellRows.Add(chunkRows); pdfTable.AddCell(cellRows); } } pdfDoc.Add(pdfTable); pdfDoc.Close(); Response.ContentType = "application/octet-stream"; if (val == 1) { Response.AddHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment; filename=Users.pdf"); } else if (val == 2) { Response.AddHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment; filename=Customers.pdf"); } else if (val == 3) { Response.AddHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment; filename=Materials.pdf"); } else { Response.AddHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment; filename=Reports.pdf"); } Response.Clear(); Response.BinaryWrite(mStream.ToArray()); //Response.Write(mStream.ToString()); HttpContext.Current.ApplicationInstance.CompleteRequest(); Response.End(); }

  • How do laziness and I/O work together in Haskell?

    - by Bill
I'm trying to get a deeper understanding of laziness in Haskell. I was imagining the following snippet today: data Image = Image { name :: String, pixels :: String } image :: String -> IO Image image path = Image path <$> readFile path The appeal here is that I could simply create an Image instance and pass it around; if I need the image data it would be read lazily - if not, the time and memory cost of reading the file would be avoided: main = do image <- image "file" putStrLn $ length $ pixels image But is that how it actually works? How is laziness compatible with IO? Will readFile be called regardless of whether I access pixels image or will the runtime leave that thunk unevaluated if I never refer to it? If the image is indeed read lazily, then isn't it possible I/O actions could occur out of order? For example, what if immediately after calling image I delete the file? Now the putStrLn call will find nothing when it tries to read.

  • How to embed iPhone-Wax into app

    - by John Smith
Hello I have just learnt about iPhone-Wax (thanks to SO). Now the documentation is rather sparse for what I am trying to do. I want to embed it into an Objective-C app. I don't want it to be the main app. Has anyone done it and how can I achieve it?
