• How to reduce bubble-notification time in empathy?

  empathy shows a bubble notification message on top right corner if a user comes online or goes offline (obviously we can change them from the preferences), but is there any way we can reduce the time for which the bubble notification remains on screen. By default it remains fro 3-4 seconds, is there any way we can change it to 1 or may be 2 seconds (I know the matter is of few seconds only but 4 seconds looks too long and I want to reduce it). Any help is welcome. Cheers.

However, Rhythmbox (my default music player) seems to be capable of only reading the first artist. Are there any music players that can read and sort songs with multiple artists, or a plugin for Rhythmbox that can provide this functionality?

I have the default firefox installation and chromium, but I don't know the installation path for any of them, and couldn't find them among the usual suspects (/usr/bin, /usr/lib). It would be nice if you could tell me the path to one of them, and even nicer if you can tell me how to find out the installation path to any package managed by apt.

  I am setting up a JavaScript Server for my Game. Am I understanding this correctly: If I use setInterval to call a function every second, and takes 2 seconds to process. Then I am going to "stack up" requests indefinetly the Client will become more and more out of sync? If I use setTimeout, and specify 1 second. Then the function will run (again, lets say 2 seconds) and then start the timeout. And not stack up requests.

• Custom wallpapers under "Appearance" are dissapearing [12.04]

  When I add wallpapers via the little "+" under "Appearance Look" in the settings, I can select them and it works fine. But when I reopen the Appearance setting and want to change my wallpaper, the custom ones are gone. Why is this? Below is a screenshot of the empty custom wallpaper section.   on ubuntu 10.10 I used StartupManager to set windows 7 as the default boot, also chosen the 1024x768 resolution, 16 bit, time: 3sec, and checked "show splash screen". after the restart there was no GRUB menu at all, windows 7 booted, and in windows the clock was 0:03 instead of 10:03, also the wifi doesn't sees any connections anymore I reinstalled ubuntu 10.10 so the GRUB menu is back, changed the clock back from BIOS, but my wifi doesn't sees any connections in windows nor in ubuntu (I write this from another computer)

• Xubuntu: Screen idle-dims after lock+new login although not idling

  I set my screen to dim after 2 minutes idling on battery in XFCE power settings. If I lock and click new login, and log in as another user, the screen will dim after 2 minutes even though that second user is active. Is there some setting or workaround for this? It feels like a bug, but I have no idea what program or combination of programs would be responsible … (I don't know if this affects Unity users or not.)

  Noticed something interesting in WordPress...hopefully its just me not seeing the right option. Whenever a user requests a new password, it will notify the site admin that the password was changed. What I'd like to do is disable this feature, as for this specific site I really don't care if users are changing their password. I want to be safe and make a transition in a piecemeal fashion. Is it possible to install KDE on Ubuntu and yet not do away with the default Unity shell? Could I install multiple desktop environments and switch between them by tweaking some startup configuration and then rebooting?
