  • How to normalize a database where different user groups have different kinds of profiles?

    - by Stephen
My application database has a Groups table that separates users into logical roles and defines access levels (admin, owner, salesperson, customer service, etc.) Groups has many Users. The Users table contains login details such as username and password. Now I wish to add user profiles to my database. The trouble I'm having (probably due to my relative unfamiliarity with proper database normalization) is that different user groups have different kinds of profiles. Ergo, a salesperson's profile will include his commission percentage, whereas an admin or customer service would not need this value. So, would the proper method be to create a unique profile table for each group? (e.g. admin_profiles, or salesperson_profiles). or is there a better way that combines certain details in a generic profile, while some users have extended info. And if so, whats a good example of how to do this with the commission example given?

  • Calculation of derived field in sql

    - by Matt
Taking Sql this quarter and not having any luck with the following question: The height of players in feet (inches/12). Include their name. Hint: Calculation or derived field. Be sure to give the calculated field a column header. We're learning the basic Select statment and didn't find any reference on how to make custom data at w3schools. I'm using Microsoft SQL server Management Express Here's my statment so far: select nameLast, nameFirst, height from Master where height (I assume its something like 'Player_Height' = height/12) order by nameLast, nameFirst, height Thanks for the help

  • C++: How to use types that have not been defined?

    - by Jen
C++ requires all types to be defined before they can be used, which makes it important to include header files in the right order. Fine. But what about my situation: Bunny.h: class Bunny { ... private: Reference<Bunny> parent; } The compiler complains, because technically Bunny has not been completely defined at the point where I use it in its own class definition. This is not sufficient: class Bunny; class Bunny { ... private: Reference<Bunny> parent; } Apart from re-writing my template class Reference so it takes a pointer type (in which case I can use the forward declaration of Bunny), I don't know how to solve this. Any suggestions?

  • Jquery UI dialog initiation? Is there a way to bind it?

    - by Raja
I am trying to bind the dialog initiation (which happens in document ready) to a live or delegate for a div. Something like this for click event: $("#divSelectedContacts").delegate("span", "hover", function () { $(this).toggleClass("strikeOut"); }); for this: $("#divContacts").dialog('destroy').dialog({ bgiframe: true, resizable: false, autoOpen: false, height: 600, width: 425, modal: true, overlay: { backgroundColor: '#000', opacity: 0.5 }, buttons: { Cancel: function () { //basically do nothing $(this).dialog("close"); }, 'Done': function () { //get all the selected ppl and store it in To //alert($("#divSelectedContacts").html()); $("#divTo").empty().html($("#divSelectedContacts").html()); $(this).dialog("close"); } } }); Is this possible to use delegate for this so that it is bound forever? The main problem is I dynamically load the html in one of the tabs and when I include the dialog script in the HTML then it creates multiple dialogs and does not work. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

  • How to access Dispatcher in Silverlight tests?

    - by bluebit
I am using the SL unit test framework for tests (http://code.msdn.microsoft.com/silverlightut). My code is heavily client-server communications dependant, and I access the GUI dispatcher in several places to make sure important data is only accessed on a single thread (ie. the GUI thread). This dispatcher seems unavailable in the unit tests - I have tried using Deployment.Current.Dispatcher and even created an instance of a blank control to try use its own dispatcher, but both don't work. The code inside of Dispatcher.BeginInvoke() just never executes, even if I include a Thread.Sleep afterwards.

  • Organizing PHP includes in your development environment

    - by Andrew Heath
I'm auditing my site design based on the excellent Essential PHP Security by Chris Shiflett. One of the recommendations I'd like to adopt is moving all possible files out of webroot, this includes includes. Doing so on my shared host is simple enough, but I'm wondering how people handle this on their development testbeds? Currently I've got an XAMPP installation configured so that localhost/mysite/ matches up with D:\mysite\ in which includes are stored at D:\mysite\includes\ In order to keep include paths accurate, I'm guess I need to replicate the server's path on my local disk? Something like D:\mysite\public_html\ Is there a better way?

  • Strings, regexp and files

    - by A Moose
<?php $iprange = array( "^12\.34\.", "^12\.35\.", ); foreach($iprange as $var) { if (preg_match($var, $_SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR'])) { I'm looking to have a list that will constitute each of the values inside the array. Let's call it iprange.txt, from which I would extract the variable $iprange. I would also be updating the file with new ranges, but I also want to convert those strings to regexp if that's something that's needed in php, as it is in the above example. If you could help me with the two following issues: I understand that somehow I would be using an array include, but I'm not sure how to implement it. I would like to run a cron that would update the text file and turn it into a regexp acceptable for use in the above example, if you think regexp is a good idea and there isn't another option. I know how to apply a cron in a directadmin gui, but I don't know what the cronned file would look like.

  • How does Rails Plugin Storage work?

    - by Kevin
Trying to figure out how to install rails plugins manually on windows so I have a few questions. What does the directory need to be named in vendor/plugins? Is it arbitrary or is it linked to something within the plugin config files or is that what you set in the environment.rb? Once I've copied the files to the correct directory, do I always need to run something inside like init.rb or is it good to go? What's the difference between 'require' and 'include'? Thanks!

  • Linq to SQL inheritance and Table per Class - approach needed for multiple roles

    - by Ash Machine
I am using L2S and an inheritance model for mapping Persons against certain roles. Guy Burstein's excellent blog post explains how to accomplish this: http://blogs.microsoft.co.il/blogs/bursteg/archive/2007/10/01/linq-to-sql-inheritance.aspx However, I have a specific case where a Person has multiple roles. For example 'Jane Doe' is a Contact and a Programmer. In this model, she would need two rows in the People table, one as Contact (PersonType = 1) and one as Programmer (PersonType = 3). If she changes her last name, and that update happens in her role as Contact, I would need to change all instances of 'Jane Doe' to reflect the name change everywhere. What sort of best approach (improved data structure) could be used to change last name within all roles? Finally, I am hoping to avoid overriding each general form update events to include all instances, but that may be the only way. Any suggestions or approaches appreciated.

  • Override properties block when including a psake script in an other psake script

    - by DanceAlot
I am new to psake and I have this issue: I have 2 psake scripts: (1): base_tasks.ps1: properties{ $a = "hello" $b = "hi" } task One{ Write-Host $a } (2): install.ps1 Include .\base_tasks.ps1 properties{ $a = "Goodbye" $b = "Adjeu" } task default -depends One Now, is it possible to override the properties and variables from file 1? I want to use file 1 as "base tasks" and use the tasks in the install.ps1 and override the properties. Or do I have to do that an other way? I will invoke install.ps1 and use my $a and $b from install.ps1. DanceAlot

  • C String input confusion

    - by ahref
C really isn't my strong point and after reading 3 chapters of a book on the subject and spending ages trying to get stuff working it just doesn't: #include <stdio.h> char *a,*b; int main( ) { char input[10]; fgets(input, sizeof input, stdin); a = input; fgets(input, sizeof input, stdin); b = input; printf("%s : %s",a,b); } I've isolated the problem from my main project. This code is meant to read in two strings and then print them however it seems to be setting a and b to point to input. Sample output from this code when A and B are entered is(don't worry about the \n's i can remove them): A B B : B How do i store the value of input in another variable eg. a or b so that in the above case A B A : B Is output? Thanks

  • Delay-Load equivalent in unix based systems

    - by saran
What is the delay load equivalent in unix based system. I have a code foo.cpp, While compiling with gcc I link it to shared objects(totally three .so files are there.).Each of the .so file for different option. ./foo -v needs libversion.so ./foo -update needs libupdate.so I need the symbol for those libraries should be resolved only at the run time. ./foo -v should not break even if libupdate.so library is not there. It is working in windows using the delay load option(in properties of dll). What is its equivalent in unix systems. Will '-lazy' option does the same in UNIX?. If so,Where to include this option? (in makefile or with linker ld). I am not good in unix. Please help me.. Thanks in advance.

  • Pushing View from UITableView Problem

    - by golfromeo
Basically, what I want is to be able to press a record in a table, and have it push to another view. To do this, I created a nib file and a UIViewController subclass (for the "pushed" view). I set the nib file's "File Owner" to be the controller I created. Then, in the view controller of the table that will push that view, I set the didSelectRowIndexAtPath: method to include the following: SearchTableController *vc = [[SearchTableController alloc] initWithNibName:@"SearchTable" bundle:[NSBundle mainBundle]]; [self.navigationController pushViewController:vc animated:YES]; [vc release]; (where "SearchTableController" is the name of the UIViewController subclass and "SearchTable" is the name of the nib file) However, when I run this code and click on the record, nothing happens- the app doesn't crash, but the view doesn't get pushed. The code is getting run, because it works when I NSLog(), but it doesn't seem to be pushing the view. Thanks for any help in advance.

  • How to pass a class method as an argument for another function in C++ and openGL?

    - by tsubasa
I know this thing works: void myDisplay() { ... } int main() { ... glutDisplayFunc(myDisplay) ... } so I tried to include myDisplay() function to a class that I made. Because I want to overload it in the future with a different class. However, the compiler complains that argument of type 'void (ClassBlah::)()' does not match 'void(*)()' . Here is the what I try to make: class ClassBlah { .... void myDisplay() .... } ...... int main() { ... ClassBlah blah glutDisplayFunc(blah.myDisplay) ... } Does anybody knows how to fix this problem? Many thanks.

  • Can't add libraries to Eclipse Android project

    - by neuromancer
I'm trying to get the Hackbook for Android project to work in Eclipse. One of the things I need to do is remove that invalid reference and include that project I made. I did this before, but then I started over and now it doesn't work. Here is where I add the project. If I click "Apply" and then "OK" everything seems to be fine, but it isn't, because when I go back to this screen, none of the changes I made are there. Why isn't it saving my changes? How am I supposed to do this?

  • OpenGL texture shifted somewhat to the left when applied to a quad

    - by user308226
I'm a bit new to OpenGL and I've been having a problem with using textures. The texture seems to load fine, but when I run the program, the texture displays shifted a couple pixels to the left, with the section cut off by the shift appearing on the right side. I don't know if the problem here is in the my TGA loader or if it's the way I'm applying the texture to the quad. Here is the loader: #include "texture.h" #include <iostream> GLubyte uncompressedheader[12] = {0,0, 2,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0}; GLubyte compressedheader[12] = {0,0,10,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0}; TGA::TGA() { } //Private loading function called by LoadTGA. Loads uncompressed TGA files //Returns: TRUE on success, FALSE on failure bool TGA::LoadCompressedTGA(char *filename, ifstream &texturestream) { return false; } bool TGA::LoadUncompressedTGA(char *filename, ifstream &texturestream) { cout << "G position status:" << texturestream.tellg() << endl; texturestream.read((char*)header, sizeof(header)); //read 6 bytes into the file to get the tga header width = (GLuint)header[1] * 256 + (GLuint)header[0]; //read and calculate width and save height = (GLuint)header[3] * 256 + (GLuint)header[2]; //read and calculate height and save bpp = (GLuint)header[4]; //read bpp and save cout << bpp << endl; if((width <= 0) || (height <= 0) || ((bpp != 24) && (bpp !=32))) //check to make sure the height, width, and bpp are valid { return false; } if(bpp == 24) { type = GL_RGB; } else { type = GL_RGBA; } imagesize = ((bpp/8) * width * height); //determine size in bytes of the image cout << imagesize << endl; imagedata = new GLubyte[imagesize]; //allocate memory for our imagedata variable texturestream.read((char*)imagedata, imagesize); //read according the the size of the image and save into imagedata for(GLuint cswap = 0; cswap < (GLuint)imagesize; cswap += (bpp/8)) //loop through and reverse the tga's BGR format to RGB { imagedata[cswap] ^= imagedata[cswap+2] ^= //1st Byte XOR 3rd Byte XOR 1st Byte XOR 3rd Byte imagedata[cswap] ^= imagedata[cswap+2]; } texturestream.close(); //close ifstream because we're done with it cout << "image loaded" << endl; glGenTextures(1, &texID); // Generate OpenGL texture IDs glBindTexture(GL_TEXTURE_2D, texID); // Bind Our Texture glTexParameterf(GL_TEXTURE_2D, GL_TEXTURE_MIN_FILTER, GL_LINEAR); // Linear Filtered glTexParameterf(GL_TEXTURE_2D, GL_TEXTURE_MAG_FILTER, GL_LINEAR); glTexImage2D(GL_TEXTURE_2D, 0, type, width, height, 0, type, GL_UNSIGNED_BYTE, imagedata); delete imagedata; return true; } //Public loading function for TGA images. • How to launch a program as as a normal user from a UAC elevated installer

    - by KZ
I'm writing an NSIS installer and the setup program elevates "as administrator" as needed on Windows 7 / vista. I need to run the installed program at the end of the install and don't want to launch it with the same privileges as the installer. The regular NSIS exec commands run the child process with the same permissions as the installer. There is a UAC plugin for NSIS, but the documentation on it isn't great and it seems v. new; I'd prefer not to use that plugin. Ideally, I'm looking for a small .exe I can include that'll launch the target program without UAC elevation. Does this exist? Any other suggestions? Thanks!

  • Drupal: How to render a form and table on same page

    - by Aaron
Can someone help me render a form and table on the same page? I'm sure it's easy, but can't think of how to do it. What I want is a small form above the table. How would I that?

  • Linking error in OMNeT++ using Boost serialization library

    - by astriffe
I'm very new to OMNeT++ and I'd like to use the serialization-library contained in the boost framework. However, when trying to use it, I get quite many errors such as: Description Resource Path Location Type undefined reference to `boost::archive::archive_exception::~archive_exception()' OmCCN line 36, external location: /home/alexander/UniBE/BT/simulator/boost-compiledLibs /include/boost/serialization/throw_exception.hpp C/C++ Problem . I guess the problem is that I didn't yet link the compiled library in OMNeT. I've had a look at the makefile but any changes there are worthless since it is generated automatically by makemake. Furthermore, trying to access the menu item 'makemake' in project properties OMNeT++ IDE throws an error (The currently displayed page contains invalid values). Can anyone give me a hint concerning what the error could cause or how to link the compiled library correctly? Any hints are very appreciated! cheers alex

  • Why does initWithFrame have the wrong frame value?

    - by greypoint
    I have a subclass of UIButton called INMenuCard and I am overriding the initWithFrame to include an activity indicator. The menuCard places correctly but any internal reference to "frame" give me "inf,inf,0,0" which means my activityIndicator subview is not placed correctly. What might I be missing? @implementation INMenuCard - (id)initWithFrame:(CGRect)frame { if (self = [super initWithFrame:frame]) { CGRect innerFrame = CGRectInset(frame, 50.0f, 100.0f); activityIndicator = [[UIActivityIndicatorView alloc] initWithFrame:innerFrame]; activityIndicator.activityIndicatorViewStyle = UIActivityIndicatorViewStyleWhite; [self addSubview:activityIndicator]; } return self; } I am instantiating INMenuCard with (debugging shows the CGRect values are correct): CGRect cardFrame = CGRectMake(cardX, cardStartY, cardWidth, cardHeight); INMenuCard *menuCard = [[INMenuCard buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeCustom] initWithFrame:cardFrame]; [theView addSubView:menuCard];

  • How do I stop intellij from adding specific jars to the classpath when debugging?

    - by AlecZorab
When I debug an application in intellij, it insists on including all the jars in side my jre/lib folder and sub folders. Unfortunately, one of the libraries I use manually loads each class on the classpath at startup to reduce loading times during operation. As a result, debugging my app immediately results in the process spinning at 100% and then eventually dying. If I take the command line intellij uses and remove the jars in the lib folder from the classpath, the application executes as expected. How do I make intellij not include the jre libs?

  • Beginner questions regarding Python classes.

    - by Andy
Hi. I am new to Python so please don't flame me if I ask something too noobish :) 1. Consider I have a class: class Test: def __init__(self, x, y): self.x = x self.y = y def wow(): print 5 * 5 Now I try to create an object of the class: x = Test(3, 4) This works as expected. However, when I try to call the method wow(), it returns an error, which is fixed by changing wow() to: def wow(self) Why do I need to include self and if I don't, what does the method mean?2. In the definition of __init__: def __init__(self, x, y): self.x = x self.y = y Why do I need to declare x and y, when I can do this: def __init__(self): self.x = x self.y = y I hope I am being clear... Thanks for your time.

  • How to organize Windows Phone code base to target both 7.x and 8 platforms

    - by ljubomir
I took over a Windows Phone project which was previously targeting WP 7.1 platform, and with the recent announcement of the new platform it should target WP 8 as well. My VS 2010 solution consists on several projects (Data access, Model, Tests and WP7 client app) and i am wandering on how to include support for WP8. I have to note that the code-base is not compatible with WP8, due to usage of Toolkit controls and other 3rd party libraries targeted for WP7.1 specifically. Also there is another problem with the Visual Studio versions - WP7.1 can work with VS 2010, but WP8 requires VS 2012. Should i move the whole code-base to VS 2012? Any good advice on how to organize code-base in a most meaningful way in order to avoid duplication and possible painful maintenance? I am thinking between one solution - multiple projects vs. multiple solutions - reusable projects approach. Code duplication (like two separate folders/solutions) should be the least possible approach (fallback).
