  • iptables firewall to protect against automated entries

    - by Kenyana
I am getting unusually large calls on my app. I have implemented CSRF Check over ajax and its working but am still getting so many calls. My guess is that someone has a script that is 'logged' in and making all these calls. Could someone please share a good iptables script for blocking ip's that run 10 calls to /controler/action in a second. I am using `/sbin/iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --syn --dport $port -m connlimit --connlimit-above N -j REJECT --reject-with tcp-reset save the changes see iptables-save man page, the following is redhat and friends specific command service iptables save` That is from cyberciti

  • mysql questions for beginners

    - by ankhseeker
ok, I have a few questions regarding mysql. I am currently running ubuntu 12.04.4 LTS command line version. I am looking for a database that I can use. I am confused at this point because I am uninformed. mysql is just one database that is on the server? or can it contain several or many databases What programs do I use to access it on the server or is it a vt-100 type access? I understand that mysql comes with lamp? or ubuntu. I am thinking that it is already installed but not sure how to access it, but that is another question for later. Outside of the man pages and the ubuntu manual, is there a site for its setup and use? Thanks!

  • F1 Pit Pragmatics

Occasionally, you just have to man up and deal with complex systems. In fact, sometimes you just need to sacrifice everything else in the name of performance. In Formula 1 Racing, each car has up to 100 sensors, transmitting around 30Gb of data over the course of a race (70% in real-time). This data is then processed by no less than 3 servers (per car) so that the engineers in the pit have access to telemetry, strategy information, timing feeds, while the servers are exposed to carbon dust, oil,...Did you know that DotNetSlackers also publishes .net articles written by top known .net Authors? We already have over 80 articles in several categories including Silverlight. Take a look: here.

  • Prefer examples over Documentation. Is it a behavioral problem?

    - by user1324816
Whenever I come across a new api or programming language or even simple Linux MAN pages, I always (ever since I remember) avoided then and instead lazily relied on examples for gaining understanding of new concepts. Subconsciously, I avoid documentation/api whenever it is not straight forward or cryptic or just plain boring. It's been years since I began programming and now I feel like I need to mend my ways as I now realize that I'm causing more damage by refraining from reading cryptic/difficult documentation as it is still a million times better than examples as the official documentation has more coverage than any example out there. So even after realizing that examples should be treated as "added" value instead of the "primary" source for learning. How do I break this bad habit as a programmer or am I over thinking? Any wisdom from fellow programmers is appreciated.

  • HTML5, PHP, JAVA or asp?

    - by user67418
I am building a new website for a friend of mine. Its all plain html, and a server side include. The problem is to build static pages for 500 products would not be fun to create, or maintain. So i am forced to at least put dynamic information on these pages based off a spreadsheet, or dynamic pages all together. What i want to do is have a spreadsheet that can be used to keep track of in stock quantity, sku numbers, ecc.. that way i dont have to update hundreds of pages every night. He can just edit the spreadsheet and the pages will automatically adjust. I am a busy man, and i am not asking anyone to just give me the answer. But to save some time what is more worth learning to get this done fastest. HTML5, PHP, JAVA asp, or is there somehthing else better suited?

  • jquery Autocomplete : autocomplete does not stop if string does not match

    - by Daniyal
I used the auto-complete function in jquery. It's data source are the results from a php-back-end. $("#ice_id").autocomplete("ice-ver.php", { extraParams : { flavour_id: $("#flavour_id").val() } }); Let us take following example: We type in the flavour ID 3992 ...(and 3992 exists in the database and is properly returned by the php backend). If we type in now 3992999 the auto-complete function should top showing anything up ...but unfortunately it still does, (could the problem lie within the fact that I am using integers instead of strings or chars?) Thanks in advance for any hints and best regards Daniyal

  • Is it possible to connect iPhones through NAT traversal techniques over 3G for peer 2 peer gaming

    - by Dougnukem
Is it possible to connect an iPhone to another iPhone or any other network client talking that game's protocol. I was thinking that I could use the same NAT Traversal technique used in the XBox 360 to host games on users XBox's through Firewalls. For NAT traversal to work effectively I'd have to have a central server that would allow clients to "broadcast" that they were hosting so that another client could initiate the NAT connection. In the link provided this is called relaying. Is there any inherent limitation of the US AT&T 3G network that will block the NAT traversal techniques (would you be limited to wifi firewall NAT traversal)? NAT Traversal Projects: - PJSIP - providing NAT traversal functionalities by using standard based protocols such as STUN, TURN, and ICE. - Freecast using Apache MINA Java network library for NAT Traversal

  • Checkboxes and Radio Buttons Together in a JTree

    - by Thunderforge
I'd like to create a JTree that more or less has the following structure (with a hidden root node) [No Option] Main Dish [Radio Button] Steak [Radio Button] Fish [Radio Button] Filet Mignon [Checkbox] Side Dish [Checkbox] Mashed Potatoes [Checkbox] Green Beans [Checkbox] Mixed Vegetables [Checkbox] Dessert [Radio Button] Ice Cream [Radio Button] Pudding [Radio Button] Cake Basically, at least one main dish (but no more than one) can be chosen, any number of side dishes can be chosen (or none, if the "Side Dish" checkbox is unchecked), and only one dessert can be chosen (or none, if the "Dessert" checkbox is unchecked). This article describes how to create a tree that uses JCheckboxes (as I'd like to use for the Side Dish and Dessert sections) by creating a custom Renderer and page 3 of the same article describes how to use Radio buttons (as I'd like to use for the Main Course) section. But it doesn't describe how to mix them up within the same JTree. Is it possible to create a structure like this? And if so, how?

  • Looking for programs on audio tape/cassette containing programs for Sinclair Z80 PC?

    - by DVK
OK, so back before ice age, I recall having a Sinclair ZX80 PC (with TV as a display, and a cassette tape player as storage device). Obviously, the programs on cassette tapes made a very distinct sound (er... noise) when playing the tape... I was wondering if someone still had those tapes? The reason (and the reason this Q is programming related) is that IIRC different languages made somewhat different pitched noises, but I would like to run the tape and listen myself to confirm if that was really the case...

  • errors deploying an EAR with EJBs 2.1 into JBoss AS5

    - by Marina
Hi, I'm porting an application with EJBs 2.1 from Weblogic9 to JBoss AS5. I have made some of the changes like adding jboss.xml descriptors to EJBs and fixing application.xml of the EAR, but there are still problems when deploying the EAR. Here is a summary of the the latest error I'm getting when the first EJB is being deployed by JBoss (I will add the full stack trace at the end of the message): 14:15:48,124 ERROR [AbstractKernelController] Error installing to Parse: name=vf sfile:/C:/Marina/Tools/jboss-5.1.0.GA/server/default/deploy/contracts.ear/ state =Not Installed mode=Manual requiredState=Parse org.jboss.deployers.spi.DeploymentException: Error creating managed object for v fsfile:/C:/Marina/Tools/jboss-5.1.0.GA/server/default/deploy/contracts.ear/admin -ejb.jar/ .... Caused by: org.jboss.xb.binding.JBossXBException: Failed to parse source: Failed to parse schema for nsURI=, baseURI=null, schemaLocation=http://www.jboss.org/j2ee/dtd/jboss_2_4.dtd .... Caused by: org.jboss.xb.binding.JBossXBRuntimeException: -1:-1 94:3 The markup in the document preceding the root element must be well-formed. Is this a problem with parsing the jboss_2_4.dtd itself? or is it something worng with my descriptors for the EJB? When I try to validate the jboss_2_4.dtd in an XML editor it does complain about a syntax error at line 94:1 , which is the beginning of the first declaration, although it looks fine. Any ideas? Thanks! • How do I program an AVR Raven with Linux or a Mac?

    - by Andrew McGregor
This tutorial for programming these starts with programming the Ravens and Jackdaw with a Windows box. Can I do those initial steps with avrdude on a Linux or OS X machine instead? If so, how? Is there any risk of bricking the hardware if I just try? I have a USB JTAG ICE MKii clone, which is supposed to work for this. I'm totally new to AVR, but very experienced with C/C++ programming on Linux or OS X, up to and including kernel programming... so any hint at all would be appreciated, I can read man pages, but only if I know what I'm looking for.

  • Repeating Group Messages in Quickfix C++

    - by Mark Jackson
    We cannot seem to process some group messages with QuickFix. I am trying to set up a connection with the ICE exchange using QuickFix (C++). I have created a custom data dictionary to handle ICE's non-standard messages. The first message to handle is a SecurityDefinition. The message contains about 13000 entries broken into blocks of 100. I attached the message below (the first two entries with CR/LF added for clarity). My question is in the data dictionary, I defined a group as part of the entry with all the fields they specify in the group. Yet the message is rejected before it gets to the cracker as having an invalid tag (tag = 305). Message 2 Rejected: Tag not defined for this message type:305 Does this dictionary entry look correct. Is there any documentation anywhere on how to handle group messages? Dictionary entry <message name='SecurityDefinition' msgcat='app' msgtype='d'> <field name='SecurityResponseID' required='Y' /> <field name='SecurityResponseType' required='Y' /> <field name='SecurityReqID' required='Y' /> <field name='TotNoRelatedSym' required='N' /> <field name='NoRpts' required='N' /> <field name='ListSeqNo' required='N' /> <group name='NoUnderlyings' required='N'> <field name='UnderlyingSymbol' required='N' /> <field name='UnderlyingSecurityID' required='N' /> <field name='UnderlyingSecurityIDSource' required='N' /> <field name='UnderlyingCFICode' required='N' /> <field name='UnderlyingSecurityDesc' required='N' /> <field name='UnderlyingMaturityDate' required='N' /> <field name='UnderlyingContractMultiplier' required='N' /> <field name='IncrementPrice' required='N' /> <field name='IncrementQty' required='N' /> <field name='LotSize' required='N' /> <field name='NumofCycles' required='N' /> <field name='LotSizeMultiplier' required='N' /> <field name='Clearable' required='N' /> <field name='StripId' required='N' /> <field name='StripType' required='N' /> <field name='StripName' required='N' /> <field name='HubId' required='N' /> <field name='HubName' required='N' /> <field name='HubAlias' required='N' /> <field name='UnderlyingUnitOfMeasure' required='N' /> <field name='PriceDenomination' required='N' /> <field name='PriceUnit' required='N' /> <field name='Granularity' required='N' /> <field name='NumOfDecimalPrice' required='N' /> <field name='NumOfDecimalQty' required='N' /> <field name='ProductId' required='N' /> <field name='ProductName' required='N' /> <field name='ProductDescription' required='N' /> <field name='TickValue' required='N' /> <field name='ImpliedType' required='N' /> <field name='PrimaryLegSymbol' required='N' /> <field name='SecondaryLegSymbol' required='N' /> <field name='IncrementStrike' required='N' /> <field name='MinStrike' required='N' /> <field name='MaxStrike' required='N' /> </group> </message> The actual message is 8=FIX.4.49=5004335=d49=ICE34=252=20121017-00:39:41.38556=600357=23322=3924323=4320=1393=1310382=13267=1711=100 311=1705282309=TEB SMG0013-TFL SMG0013305=8463=FXXXXX307=NG Basis Futures Spr - TETCO-ELA/TGP-500L - Feb13542=20130131436=1.09013=0.00059014=2500.09017=25009022=289024=19025=Y916=20130201917=201302289201=11969200=129202=Feb139300=60589301=Texas Eastern Transmission Corp. - East Louisiana Zone/Tennessee Gas Pipeline Co. - Zone L, 500 Leg Pool9302=TETCO-ELA/TGP-500L998=MMBtus9100=USD9101=USD / MMBtu9085=daily9083=49084=09061=4909062=NG Basis Futures Spr9063=Natural Gas Basis Futures Spread9032=1.259004=17051939005=1353778 311=1714677309=PGE SQF0014.H0014-SCB SQF0014.H0014305=8463=FXXXXX307=NG Basis Futures Spr - PG&E-Citygate/Socal-Citygate - Q1 14542=20131231436=1.09013=0.00059014=2500.09017=25009022=909024=19025=Y916=20140101917=201403319201=12339200=159202=Q1 149300=59979301=PG&E - Citygate/Socal - Citygate9302=PG&E-Citygate/Socal-Citygate998=MMBtus9100=USD9101=USD / MMBtu9085=daily9083=49084=09061=4909062=NG Basis Futures Spr9063=Natural Gas Basis Futures Spread9032=1.259004=13430529005=1344660

  • In SQL / MySQL, can a Left Outer Join be used to find out the duplicates when there is no Primary ID

  • Java Framework Choice Question.

    - by Sarang
We do have many frameworks available in Java. Struts, Swing, JSF 2.0, Spring etc are used as per their priority. Actually, I don't know how many they are as well! But, as I am fresher to Java, even learning after their architecture, I cannot decide which framework can be used with what type of Projects ! Also, I am confused with mixed use of framework like Spring + JSF. What is the benefit to it ? Another thing making me confusing is about the UI components available in market. Like, we do have Primefaces, Ice-faces, MyFaces, Rich-faces. They may or may not have been supporting AJAX in-built. They may contains some bugs as well. What is best choice for Framework + UI component that can directly provide a best feet solution for any project ?

What are the various JSF component libraries (like rich faces and ice faces) that are available and what is the difference between each one of them? Any relevant links giving the exact information on this would also be helpful. Thanks a lot in advance.

For a few days I've tried to wrap my head around the functional programming paradigm in Haskell. I've done this by reading tutorials and watching screencasts, but nothing really seems to stick. Now, in learning various imperative/OO languages (like C, Java, PHP), excercises have been a good way for me to go. But since I don't really know what Haskell is capable of and because there are many new concepts to utilize, I haven't known where to start. So, how did you learn Haskell? What made you really "break the ice"? Also, any good ideas for beginning excercises?

  • saslauthd + PostFix producing password verification and authentication errors

    - by Aram Papazian
So I'm trying to setup PostFix while using SASL (Cyrus variety preferred, I was using dovecot earlier but I'm switching from dovecot to courier so I want to use cyrus instead of dovecot) but I seem to be having issues. Here are the errors I'm receiving: ==> mail.log <== Aug 10 05:11:49 crazyinsanoman postfix/smtpd[779]: warning: SASL authentication failure: Password verification failed Aug 10 05:11:49 crazyinsanoman postfix/smtpd[779]: warning: ipname[xx.xx.xx.xx]: SASL PLAIN authentication failed: authentication failure ==> mail.info <== Aug 10 05:11:49 crazyinsanoman postfix/smtpd[779]: warning: SASL authentication failure: Password verification failed Aug 10 05:11:49 crazyinsanoman postfix/smtpd[779]: warning: ipname[xx.xx.xx.xx]: SASL PLAIN authentication failed: authentication failure ==> mail.warn <== Aug 10 05:11:49 crazyinsanoman postfix/smtpd[779]: warning: SASL authentication failure: Password verification failed Aug 10 05:11:49 crazyinsanoman postfix/smtpd[779]: warning: ipname[xx.xx.xx.xx]: SASL PLAIN authentication failed: authentication failure I tried $testsaslauthd -u xxxx -p xxxx 0: OK "Success." So I know that the password/user I'm using is correct. I'm thinking that most likely I have a setting wrong somewhere, but can't seem to find where. Here is my files. The password in 'users' is set through the 'ENCRYPT()' function. I also followed the methods found in http://www.jimmy.co.at/weblog/?p=52 in order to redo /var/spool/postfix/var/run/saslauthd as that seems to be a lot of people's problems, but that didn't help at all. Also, here is my /etc/default/saslauthd START=yes DESC="SASL Authentication Daemon" NAME="saslauthd" # Which authentication mechanisms should saslauthd use? (default: pam) # # Available options in this Debian package: # getpwent -- use the getpwent() library function # kerberos5 -- use Kerberos 5 # pam -- use PAM # rimap -- use a remote IMAP server # shadow -- use the local shadow password file # sasldb -- use the local sasldb database file # ldap -- use LDAP (configuration is in /etc/saslauthd.conf) # # Only one option may be used at a time. See the saslauthd man page # for more information. # # Example: MECHANISMS="pam" MECHANISMS="pam" MECH_OPTIONS="" THREADS=5 OPTIONS="-c -m /var/spool/postfix/var/run/saslauthd -r" I had heard that potentially changing MECHANISM to MECHANISMS="mysql" but obviously that didn't help as is shown by the options listed above and also by trying it out anyway in case the documentation was outdated. So, I'm now at a loss... I have no idea where to go from here or what steps I need to do to get this working =/ Anyone have any ideas? EDIT: Here is the error that is coming from auth.log ... • Xcode "Build and Archive" from command line

    - by Dan Fabulich
Xcode 3.2 provides an awesome new feature under the Build menu, "Build and Archive" which generates an .ipa file suitable for Ad Hoc distribution. You can also open the Organizer, go to "Archived Applications," and "Submit Application to iTunesConnect." Is there a way to use "Build and Archive" from the command line (as part of a build script)? I'd assume that xcodebuild would be involved somehow, but the man page doesn't seem to say anything about this.
