I need to get rid off "access denied" messages which fills my find output.
I've read man find (maybe not too carefully, hit me) and cannot find anything like
-s/--silent or -q/--quiet command line key.
I'm running Ubuntu on Parallels on a MacBook, and there is no middle-click on the MacBook trackpad - which is annoying because it means you can't do X's paste action.
Is there an alternative? I'm hoping there is a keyboard binding to X's paste or better a way to bind a keyboard key/combination to the middle-click action.
Edit: I know about the emulate three-button mouse option, but that won't work for me because the trackpad only allows you to click one button at a time
I am trying to set up SSH to a SCO Unix server that runs custom software that uses the function keys on the keyboard, however the keys do not appear to be in the correct format for SCO to recognise. None of the keyboard options on PuTTY work, including the SCO option.
How do I change the keycodes that SCO/bash is looking for when it wants a function key? If it helps, the system is upgrading from Wyse50 terminals.
thanks!
I want to make it so that nautilus requires me to press a key combination to delete files - so that I do not accidentally delete files on a network share with no confirmation again.
Ideally I would make the behavior identical to OSX's Finder, so that I press ctrl+backspace to delete files.
All emails I send from my new server go to spam in Gmail (and sometimes yahoo).
I've never before sent out mass email or spam.
What I've already done:
Configured reverse DNS
Enabled DKIM
Verified my IP is not on spam lists
Verified I'm not an open relay
Here are the headers from the received message:
http://pastie.org/pastes/8450781/text?key=onxgrau1xinyqv7ridxrea
Really, can't seem to figure out why the mail just doesn't come through.
I'd really appreciate your help. Thank you!
I set JAVA_HOME in windows environment preferences
echo %JAVA_HOME%
C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jdk1.6.0_20
but then I try to run ant build and I get
Perhaps JAVA_HOME does not point to the JDK.
It is currently set to "C:\Program Files\Java\jre6"
I think the registry key JAVASOFT is interfering with my environment variable, but I'm not sure how to fix this
Is there a way to make Notepad++ auto-complete words on Tab instead of Enter?
Currently, if want to type, say, frame, then Enter to begin a new line, instead the Enter will select the first auto-complete suggestion, like frameElement:
I do want the auto-complete feature, but I'd rather have a key like Tab do the actual selection, because Enter is frequently purposed toward starting a new line, whereas Tab is rarely used to indent after a word (since indenting is usually done at the start of lines), and so perhaps would be better repurposed toward auto-completion.
The title says it all. Here are a few of my favourites to get things started:
WINDOWS + BREAK - System Properties
CTRL + SHIFT + ESC - Task Manager
SHIFT + F10 - Context Menu (on keyboards without a CM key)
And general text selection:
HOME/END - Go to the start/end of the current line
CTRL + HOME/END - Go to the start/end of the document
CTRL + LEFT/RIGHT - Skip entire words
SHIFT + CTRL + LEFT/RIGHT - Select entire words
Edit: Just remembered this one
SHIFT + DEL - Delete file (skip recycle bin)
I have tried googling this and no one else seems to either have this problem, or find it to be a problem, but it is very annoying to me. Everytime I accidentally hit my ctrl key by itself on my keyboard (I am using windows 7) my volume automatically lowers to a very low volume and then I can't hear anything. It's very annoying whenever I am on a game and/or on skype and I accidentally hit ctrl and then I can't hear anything or anyone!! How can I turn this feature off?
I've become so used to aligning windows to a grid on Windows (via Win+Arrow Key) and Linux (via Compiz Grid) that when I sit down at a Mac I want to gouge my eyes out trying to align windows.
Is there any sort of application or service for Mac OS X that handles windows like this?
Here is an example of Compiz Grid plugin.
I installed a Forwarding DNS server on Centos 5.10 and it is resolving addresses e.g google.com. When I stopped named (service named stop) and tried to dig (dig @localhost A google.com) there was a failure to resolve the address. I checked and see the caching daemon nscd is running.
Does this mean the server is not caching at all? How can I get it to cache?

When I drag a file from "Downloads" to my USB stick window, it copies. I want it moved. What do I have to config, or which key to press to achieve this? (Yes, I googled, but came up empty).
And cut/copy... not an option, since cut doesn't.
System is Ubuntu 9.10, if it's an Ubuntu thing.
I have Windows Vista 64 running on a Dell XPS 420. I hibernate Vista instead of shutting down. When I power back on, if I don't press a key or move the mouse then a minute after powering on it will automatically hibernate. My power settings say to never hibernate or sleep.
Any idea why it is automatically hibernating when it starts up?
I just made some changes to a DNS zone in Webmin and clicked the "Apply Changes" button. I received the error message:
rndc: connection to remote host closed This may indicate that the remote server is using an older version of the command protocol, this host is not authorized to connect, or the key is invalid
How can I troubleshoot / repair this? I copied parts of the BIND config from a failing server, so I suspect that's what causing it...
Hi, does anyone know that what is the shortcut of playing next track for iTunes on Windows 7?
I am using iTunes but I want to do this when iTunes is not on the screen, I want to change track when iTunes is minimized. I have keys on my keyboard (Logitech Mx3200) for this job but I want to change them and it needs key combinations for this.
I have to transcribe some audio (not enough to download dedicated software but enough to put my hacker hat on) and flipping back and forth between vlc and my text editor every time I want to pause is really annoying.
Is there a way to always route a key-press (for example F10) to vlc regardless of what window has focus.
Bonus - I have a Makey Makey so if I can get this working I can create a pedal and it will be my first real use of it!
I have a computer with (presumably unlicensed) Windows XP.
The activation (over the internet) failed, and I now I cannot get into Windows.
After calling Microsoft, it seems like I will have to reinstall everything and install a freshly bought operating system.
What are my options here? Is it worth trying the millions of keys and key generators out there?
EDIT: I have no way of contacting the manufacturer (it's a no-name box, definitely not Dell, HP or IBM).
I currently trying to understand if my motherboard supports booting from USB flash drive or not...
In motherboard manual it written:
"First/Second/Third Boot DeviceSpecifies the boot order from the available devices. Use the up or down arrow key to select adevice and press to accept. Options are: Floppy, LS120, Hard Disk, CDROM, ZIP,USB-FDD, USB-ZIP, USB-CDROM, USB-HDD, LAN, Disabled"
Is there way to boot from 8GB USB flash drive?

I've seen several screencasts (recorded on Mac OS X) which show a nice little "toast" indicating which shortcut key is being pressed by the screencaster, typically in the middle of the screen. Is this a feature of the screencasting software? Is there an app that does this that stands alone?
I regularly do presentations for programming classes, and I want a way to show my audience what shortcuts I'm activating.
On Linux there is this feature where you can press the Alt key and drag a window from anywhere and move it. Is there a similar feature for Mac OS X?
Thanks in advance!
I'm looking to replace Arsclip (keeps locking/breaking clipboard chain). I want something quick and responsive like Ditto, ClipX or others. But one key feature that I cant seem to find outside of Arsclip is the ability to paste configurable date/ time. I need both yyyymmdd and dd-mmm-yy. Any suggestions?
I downloaded the huge Windows 7 .iso file and burnt it to a DVD.
I then used that DVD to install Windows 7 on my machine and then realized that I the .iso file was on the Vista operating system that I replaced with Windows 7 (didn't upgrade).
So now I would like to get the .iso file back but with the same key, etc.
How can I convert the DVD I burned back into an .ISO file?
