  • show() progressdialog in asynctask inside fragment

    - by just_user
    I'm trying to display a progressDialog while getting an image from a url to a imageview. When trying to show the progressDialog the parent activity has leaked window... Strange thing is that I have two fragments in the this activity, in the first fragment this exact same way of calling the progressdialog works but when the fragment is replaced and i try to make it again it crashes. This is the asynctask I'm using inside the second fragment with the crash: class SkinPreviewImage extends AsyncTask<Void, Void, Void> { private ProgressDialog progressDialog; @Override protected void onPreExecute() { progressDialog = new ProgressDialog(getActivity()); progressDialog.setMessage("Loading preview..."); if(progressDialog != null) progressDialog.show(); progressDialog.setOnCancelListener(new OnCancelListener() { public void onCancel(DialogInterface arg0) { SkinPreviewImage.this.cancel(true); } }); } @Override protected Void doInBackground(Void... params) { try { URL newurl = new URL(url); Bitmap mIcon_val = BitmapFactory.decodeStream(newurl.openConnection().getInputStream()); skinPreview.setImageBitmap(mIcon_val); } catch (IOException e) { Log.e("SkinStoreDetail", e.getMessage()); } return null; } @Override protected void onPostExecute(Void v) { if(progressDialog != null) progressDialog.dismiss(); } } I've seen a few similar questions but the one closest to solve my problem used a groupactivity for the parent which I'm not using. Any suggestions?

  • Puting contact number into field

    - by dfilkovi
    I have this code that has one button that let's me choose an entry from contacts, and passes that choesn contact to onActivityResult function. My question is how do I select data of that single contact when all that is passed is an Intent in data variable. That data variable, if converted to string shows something like "dat: content://contacts/people/4" so I see that selected contact is somehow passed, but what now? How to get that data? And also all I found by googling was examples with deprecated class People, so I don't know how too use new classes. Please help. Thank you. public class HelloAndroid extends Activity { private static final int CONTACT_ACTIVITY = 100; /** Called when the activity is first created. */ @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.main); final Button contactButton = (Button) findViewById(R.id.pick_contact_button); contactButton.setOnClickListener(new OnClickListener() { public void onClick(View v) { Uri uri = Uri.parse("content://contacts/people"); Intent contacts_intent = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_PICK, uri); startActivityForResult(contacts_intent, CONTACT_ACTIVITY); } }); } public void onActivityResult(int requestCode, int resultCode, Intent data){ super.onActivityResult(requestCode, resultCode, data); switch(requestCode){ case(CONTACT_ACTIVITY): { if(resultCode == Activity.RESULT_OK) { alertText(data.toString()); } break; } } } }

  • How to call notifyDataSetChanged() from a generic Adapter

    - by Matty F
    An OnItemClickListener for a ListView has the following method: @Override public void onItemClick(AdapterView<?> parent, View v, int position, long id) I'd like to have the adapter behind the ListView refresh, and I believe this is done through the use of: BaseAdapter.notifyDataSetChanged() How do I use the parent parameter in the onItemClick method to do this? So far I've tried: parent.getAdapter().notifyDataSetChanged(); This throws an error because the object returned is of class HeaderViewListAdapter, which for reasons unknown isn't a subclass of BaseAdapter.

  • Dynamically change ViewPagerIndicator titles

    - by msal
    My current project uses some ListFragments to show rows of data. The rows get updated dynamically every some seconds. The amount of rows varies with every update and in every ListFragment. I would like to show the amount of rows to the user, and think that the perfect place for that would be next to the Fragment's title in the ViewPagerIndicator. I provided a sample image for better comprehension: Sadly I am pretty clueless how to achieve this. I tried the following: public class PagerAdapter extends FragmentPagerAdapter { private int numOne = 0; private int numTwo = 0; // ... @Override public CharSequence getPageTitle(int position) { switch (position) { case 0: return "List 1 (" + numOne + ")"; case 1: return "List 2 (" + numTwo + ")"; default: return ""; } public void setNumOne(int num) { this.numOne = num; } public void setNumTwo(int num) { this.numTwo = num; } } When I now call the setNumXXX() method, nothing happens, until I move between fragments, what seems to trigger the getPageTitle() to fire. My question is: How can I force an update of the title(s), everytime when the num value changes?

  • Re-tweets and replies with JTwitter

    - by Samuh
    I have not used Twitter enough to become familiar with its terminology or the way it works, so please help me in understanding the problem I have at hand. I am getting last 20 status updates posted by some Twitter user via RSS feed, the feed XML is parsed and the statuses are displayed in a ListView. Which means that I have the original tweet in a String variable(row of ListView). When I click a ListView item, I get the option of "Re-tweeting" and "post reply". As, I understand it, when re-tweeting I will have to just update my *status* as: RT @orig-poster <original tweet> and when posting a reply I will have to just update my status as: @orig-poster <my tweet> I skimmed through the JavaDocs of the Jwitter library(Twitter class) and found a setStatus(String) method. I dont think I will have to make use of retweet() or reply() functions of the Twitter class in JTwitter library. Is my understanding correct? Please correct me if I am wrong here or missing anything. Thanks!

  • Why no DatePicker.setDateChangedListener() method

    - by OceanBlue
    Since most widgets have a standard method of setting a listener, setOnXXXListener(), just wondering why there is no setDateChangedListener() method for DatePicker? I know init(int, int, int, OnDateChangedListener) can be used for the same purpose, but surely there must be some reason why Google decided not to use the standard method here. I went through the API docs and couldn't find the reason. Would one of the gurus here know the answer to this?

  • How to convert String format dates to Date format dates?

    - by Jani Bela
    I have a string with dates it looks like: "20120316 20120317 20120318" ... I store this dates in this format, but I would like to make a Date array from these numbers with the format 03/16 03/17 03/18 ... So far: String[] DailyDatasOnce2 = DatesOnce.split(" "); DailyDatasOnce = new String[DailyDatasOnce2.length]; for (int i=0;i< (DailyDatasOnce2.length) ;i++){ DailyDatasOnce[i]=DailyDatasOnce2[i]; } datumok = new Date[DailyDatasOnce.length]; for (int i=0;i< (DailyDatasOnce.length) ;i++){ SimpleDateFormat curFormater = new SimpleDateFormat("yyyyMMdd"); java.util.Date dateObj = null; java.util.Date dateObj2 = null; try { dateObj = curFormater.parse(DailyDatasOnce[i]); } catch (ParseException e) { // TODO Auto-generated catch block e.printStackTrace(); } SimpleDateFormat postFormater = new SimpleDateFormat("MM/dd"); String newDateStr = postFormater.format(dateObj); try { dateObj2 = curFormater.parse(newDateStr); } catch (ParseException e) { // TODO Auto-generated catch block e.printStackTrace(); } datumok[i] = dateObj2; } So first I make a string array with the string dates (DailyDatasOnce), maybe that first for loop is useless but i can skip it. Now I make a Date array and I want to put the dates into it. I format the dates to format I want, then I try to convert them to Date format. Until the String newDateStr it is working, I manage to change the type of the date. But I get syntax error: Type mismatch: Cannot convert from java.util.date to java.sql.data. I suspect the problem but if it is not possible, how can i do this?

  • Custom Classes Passed from Service to a UI threads via AIDL

    - by Honza Pokorny
    I have a service that regularly queries a web server for new messages. The service stores the new messages in an arrayList. These messages are implemented using a custom class, storing all kinds of metadata (strings and longs). An activity then connects to this service to retrieve those messages and display them to the user. I have an .aidl file that describes the interface that the service exposes. package com.example.package; interface MyInterface { List<Message> getMessages(); } The Message class extends the Parcelable class which should allow for the IPC transfer. The problem is this: Eclipse gives me an error saying that the type of List<Message> is unknown. Any imports are marked as invalid. Ideas? Thanks

  • Starting activity from packageinfo

  • How can I receive CameraActivities result in a DIFFERENT Activity (i.e. not in the launching one)?

    - by steff
    Hi, I hope the title says it all: I've got Activity A which fires up the Camera intent via: Intent intent = new Intent(MediaStore.ACTION_IMAGE_CAPTURE); startActivityForResult(intent, REQUEST_CAMERA); After the picture is taken I can easily grab the picture in: @Override protected void onActivityResult(int requestCode, int resultCode, Intent data) But I'd like to receive the result in Activity B in which the image can be edited. Right now I'm receiving the result in Activity A and pass it over to Activity B which results in showing the GUI of Activity A for a short while: Intent i = new Intent().setAction("DisplayJPEG"); i.setClass(this, EditImageActivity.class); i.putExtra("IMAGE_URI", uri); startActivityForResult(i, REQUEST_EDIT_IMAGE); Of course, I will need the result from Activity B in Activity A after the image has been edited. But that should work with: setResult(resultCode, data); So there has to be a way to do what I need. Please point me into the right direction. Thanks in advance, steff

  • How to know preferred icon size for MenuItem?

    - by barmaley
    Hi folks, I my application I have one large PNG file containg hi-res image. Depending on situation I would like to use this image either as icon or as placeholder for ImageView. For MenuItem this image is too large, so I need to scale-down it to suitable size. I mean if it has to be displayed on large enough device like Samsung Galaxy Tab - I need to use one scale, for in small ones another, etc. I just noticed that for small-sized devices MenuItem icon is not scaled just cut - which is ugly. So the question is how should detect which is preferred size?

  • Parsing JSON with GSON

    - by Donn Felker
    I'm having some trouble with GSON, mainly deserializing from JSON to a POJO. I have the following JSON: { "events": [ { "event": { "id": 628374485, "title": "Developing for the Windows Phone" } }, { "event": { "id": 765432, "title": "Film Makers Meeting" } } ] } With the following POJO's ... public class EventSearchResult { private List<EventSearchEvent> events; public List<EventSearchEvent> getEvents() { return events; } } public class EventSearchEvent { private int id; private String title; public int getId() { return id; } public String getTitle() { return title; } } ... and I'm deserializing with the following code, where json input is the json above Gson gson = new Gson(); return gson.fromJson(jsonInput, EventSearchResult.class); However, I cannot get the list of events to populate correctly. The title and id are always null. I'm sure I'm missing something, but I'm not sure what. Any idea? Thanks
