  • SQL's Rownumber with Linq-to-entities

    - by mariki
I am converting my project to use EF and also want to covert stored procedures into Linq-to-entities queries. This my SQL query (simple version) that I have trouble to convert: SELECT CategoryID, Title as CategoryTitle,Description, LastProductTitle,LastProductAddedDate FROM ( SELECT C.CategoryID, C.Title,C.Description, C.Section, P.Title as LastProductTitle, P.AddedDate as LastProductAddedDate, ROW_NUMBER() OVER (PARTITION BY P.CategoryID ORDER BY P.AddedDate DESC) AS Num FROM Categories C LEFT JOIN Products P ON P.CategoryID = C.CategoryID ) OuterSelect WHERE OuterSelect.Num = 1 In words: I want to return all Categories (from Categories table) and title and date of addition of the product (from Products table) that was added last to this category. How can I achieve this using Entity frame work query? In most efficient way.

  • SQL server recursive query error. The maximum recursion 100 has been exhausted before statement completion

    - by ienax_ridens
I have a recursive query that returns an error when I run it; in other databases (with more data) I have not the problem. In my case this query returns 2 colums (ID_PARENT and ID_CHILD) doing a recursion because my tree can have more than one level, bit I wanna have only "direct" parent. NOTE: I tried to put OPTION (MAXRECURSION 0) at the end of the query, but with no luck. The following query is only a part of the entire query, I tried to put OPTION only at the end of the "big query" having a continous running query, but no errors displayed. Error have in SQL Server: "The statement terminated. The maximum recursion 100 has been exhausted before statement completion" The query is the following: WITH q AS (SELECT ID_ITEM, ID_ITEM AS ID_ITEM_ANCESTOR FROM ITEMS_TABLE i JOIN ITEMS_TYPES_TABLE itt ON itt.ID_ITEM_TYPE = i.ID_ITEM_TYPE UNION ALL SELECT i.ID_ITEM, q.ID_ITEM_ANCESTOR FROM q JOIN ITEMS_TABLE i ON i.ID_ITEM_PADRE = q.ID_ITEM JOIN ITEMS_TYPES_TABLE itt ON itt.ID_ITEM_TYPE = i.ID_ITEM_TYPE) SELECT ID_ITEM AS ID_CHILD, ID_ITEM_ANCESTOR AS ID_PARENT FROM q I need a suggestion to re-write this query to avoid the error of recursion and see the data, that are few.

  • Querying for names

    - by Sai
I have a table (say "Demographics") on SQL Server. In this table are the following columns "LastName", "FirstName", "MiddleName", "Prefix" , "Suffix". I have one textbox to search for them on a webpage. My question: Whats a good design strategy for queries where the user could be searching for various combinations of names including last names that have spaces e.g. "Smith James Jr." . Our customers store Jr. sometimes in suffix and sometimes just tack it to lastname. Sometimes Smith James Jr could be the entire last name.

  • [PowerShell] Sql Server SMO connection timeout not working

    - by Uros Calakovic
    I have the following PowerShell code: function Get-SmoConnection { param ([string] $serverName = "", [int] $connectionTimeout = 0) if($serverName.Length -eq 0) { $serverConnection = New-Object ` Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Common.ServerConnection } else { $serverConnection = New-Object ` Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Common.ServerConnection($serverName) } if($connectionTimeout -ne 0) { $serverConnection.ConnectTimeout = $connectionTimeout } try { $serverConnection.Connect() $serverConnection } catch [system.Management.Automation.MethodInvocationException] { $null } } $connection = get-smoconnection "ServerName" 2 if($connection -ne $null) { Write-Host $connection.ServerInstance Write-Host $connection.ConnectTimeout } else { Write-Host "Connection could not be established" } It seems to work, except for the part that attempts to set the SMO connection timeout. If the connection is successful, I can verify that ServerConnection.ConnectTimeout is set to 2 (seconds), but when I supply a bogus name for the SQL Server instance, it still attempts to connect to it for ~ 15 seconds (which is I believe the default timeout value). Does anyone have experience with setting SMO connection timeout? Thank you in advance.

  • Find next date for certain record in SQL Server 2008

    - by Karl
Hi In SQL Server 2008: I have two tables, dtlScheme and dtlRenewal, with a one to many relationship (one scheme can have many renewals). dtlRenewal has a unique key (dteEffectiveDate, dtlSchemeID). Now suppose I have the following data in dtlRenewal: dtlRenewalID dtlSchemeID dteEffectiveDate 1 1 1/1/2005 2 1 1/1/2006 3 1 1/1/2007 4 1 1/1/2008 5 1 1/1/2009 I would like to find for each renewal the next and previous effective date for the scheme. In other words, I need to return this: dtlRenewalID dtlSchemeID dteEffectiveDate dtePrevious dteNext 1 1 1/1/2005 NULL 1/1/2006 2 1 1/1/2006 1/1/2005 1/1/2007 3 1 1/1/2007 1/1/2006 1/1/2008 4 1 1/1/2008 1/1/2007 1/1/2009 5 1 1/1/2009 1/1/2008 NULL Thanks Karl

  • SQL server query not showing daily date result

    - by Andrew Jahn
I have a simple user production report where daily quotas are tracked. The sql returns a weeks worth of data for all users and for each day it tracks their totals. The problem is if they are out for a day and have a zero production for that day then the result query just skips that day and leaves it out. I want to return days even if the table has no entries for the person on that day. table: user date andy 3/22/10 andy 3/22/10 andy 3/23/10 andy 3/24/10 andy 3/26/10 result: andy 3/22/10 2 3/23/10 1 3/24/10 1 3/25/10 0 3/26/10 1 So my question is how do I get the query to return that 3/25/10 date with a count of 0. (current query I'm using): SELECT A.USUS_ID as Processor, CONVERT(VARCHAR(10),A.CLST_STS_DTM,101) as Date, COUNT(A.CLCL_ID) as DailyTotal FROM CMC_CLST_STATUS A WHERE A.CLST_STS_DTM >= (@Day) AND DATEADD(d, 5, @Day) > A.CLST_STS_DTM GROUP BY A.USUS_ID, CONVERT(VARCHAR(10),A.CLST_STS_DTM,101) ORDER BY A.USUS_ID, CONVERT(VARCHAR(10),A.CLST_STS_DTM,101)

  • How to check if object is sql to linq type

    - by remdao
    Hi, anyone know if there's any easy way to check if an object is an sql to ling type? I have a method like this but would like it to only accept valid types. public static void Update(params object[] items) { using (TheDataContext dc = new TheDataContext()) { System.Data.Linq.ITable table; if(items.Length > 0) table = dc.GetTable(items[0].GetType()); for (int i = 0; i < items.Length; i++) { table.Attach(items[i]); dc.Refresh(System.Data.Linq.RefreshMode.KeepCurrentValues, items[i]); } dc.SubmitChanges(); } }

  • Django-pyodbc SQL Server/freetds server connection problems on linux

    - by wizard
Error: ('IM002', '[IM002] [unixODBC][Driver Manager]Data source name not found, and no default driver specified (0) (SQLDriverConnectW)') I'm migrating from developing on a windows development machine to Linux machine in production and I'm having issues with the freetds driver. As far as I can tell that error message means it can't find the driver. I can connect via the cli via sqsh and tsql. I've setup my settings.py as such. 'bc2db': { 'ENGINE': 'sql_server.pyodbc', 'NAME': 'DataTEST', 'USER': 'appuser', 'PASSWORD': 'PASS', 'HOST': 'bc2.domain.com', 'options': { 'driver': 'FreeTDS', } }, Does anyone have any SQL Server experience with django? do I have to use a dns? (how would I format that?)

  • [SQL] Full-text search CONTAINSTABLE

    - by Alexander Vanwynsberghe
Hello, I have a question regarding a CONTAINSTABLE function. I would like to find everything that ENDS WITH the search string. I can use the * to find everything that starts with the searchvalue, but I want an equivalent for the % sign in the SQL LIKE function. What I want: find everything that ends with 123, so as searchvalue, I could use "*123" in my CONTAINSTABLE function. But that doesn't work.. If I want all results starting with 123, I use "123*", and that works well. But what's the equivalent for -- LIKE %123 ?? it isn't "*123" in the CONTAINSTABLE function. What is it then? Thanks!

  • SQL Server Reporting Services - Fast TimeDataRetrieval - Long TimeProcessing

    - by user197529
An application that I support has recently begun experiencing extended periods of time required to execute a report in SQL Server Reporting Services. The reports that are being executed are not terribly complex. There are multiple stored procedures (between 5 and 8) which return anywhere from a handful to 8000 records total. Reports are generally from 2 to 100 pages. One can argue (and I have) the benefit of a 100 page report, but the client is footing the bill. At any rate, the problem is that even the reports with 500 records (11 pages) being returned takes 5 minutes to return to the browser. In the execution log the TimeDataRetrieval is 60 seconds, but the TimeProcessing is 235 seconds. It seems bizarre to me that my query runs so quickly, but it takes Reporting Services so long to process the data. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Kind Regards, Bernie

  • MS SQL Bridge Table Constraints

    - by greg
Greetings - I have a table of Articles and a table of Categories. An Article can be used in many Categories, so I have created a table of ArticleCategories like this: BridgeID int (PK) ArticleID int CategoryID int Now, I want to create constraints/relationships such that the ArticleID-CategoryID combinations are unique AND that the IDs must exist in the respective primary key tables (Articles and Categories). I have tried using both VS2008 Server Explorer and Enterprise Manager (SQL-2005) to create the FK relationships, but the results always prevent Duplicate ArticleIDs in the bridge table, even though the CategoryID is different. I am pretty sure I am doing something obviously wrong, but I appear to have a mental block at this point. Can anyone tell me please how should this be done? Greaty appreciated!

  • Can you optimize this code? T-SQL

    - by Yoda
Essentially I have three fields and I am creating a new one which is the three combined making a mailable address; problem being some fields contain null values and adding myString to a null just produces a null in sql. So this is my code, can anyone make it any cleaner? It's still looking pretty butch! UPDATE [mydb].[dbo].[Account] SET [Billing Street] = CASE WHEN [(Billing Address 1)] is null and [(Billing Address 2)] is null THEN [(Billing Address 3)] WHEN [(Billing Address 1)] is null and [(Billing Address 3)] is null THEN [(Billing Address 2)] WHEN [(Billing Address 2)] is null and [(Billing Address 3)] is null THEN [(Billing Address 1)] WHEN [(Billing Address 1)] is null THEN [(Billing Address 2)] + ' ' + [(Billing Address 3)] WHEN [(Billing Address 2)] is null THEN [(Billing Address 1)] + ' ' + [(Billing Address 3)] WHEN [(Billing Address 3)] is null THEN [(Billing Address 1)] + ' ' + [(Billing Address 2)] ELSE [(Billing Address 1)] + ' ' + [(Billing Address 2)] + ' ' + [(Billing Address 3)] END

  • Advanced SQL Data Compare throught multiple tables

    - by podosta
Hello, Consider the situation below. Two tables (A & B), in two environments (DEV & TEST), with records in those tables. If you look the content of the tables, you understand that functionnal data are identical. I mean except the PK and FK values, the name Roger is sill connected to Fruit & Vegetable. In DEV environment : Table A 1 Roger 2 Kevin Table B (italic field is FK to table A) 1 1 Fruit 2 1 Vegetable 3 2 Meat In TEST environment : Table A 4 Roger 5 Kevin Table B (italic field is FK to table A) 7 4 Fruit 8 4 Vegetable 9 5 Meat I'm looking for a SQL Data Compare tool which will tell me there is no difference in the above case. Or if there is, it will generate insert & update scripts with the right order (insert first in A then B) Thanks a lot guys, Grégoire

  • Isolate SQL field using regex

    - by Das123
I'm trying to isolate a specific field in a SQL dump file so I can edit it but I'm not having any luck. The regex I'm using is: ^(?:(?:'[^\r\n']*'|[^,\r\n]*),){6}('[^\r\n']*'|[^,\r\n]*) Which is supposed to grab the seventh field and place it inside reference 1. The trouble is that this is stumbling when ever it finds a comma inside a text field and counts the partial match as the allowable matches. Eg. (1, 'Title', 1, 3, '2006-09-29', 'Commas, the bane of my regex', 'This is the target', 2, 4) matches " the bane of my regex'" instead of "'This is the target'".

  • .DBML file and LINQ to SQL

    - by Rishabh Ohri
In my DBML file I have mapped some tables and stored procedures, and the stored procedures return type is ISingleResult . T is some mapped table. But I want to take the data into my own created entities rather than LINQ to SQL created entites. The entites created by me are also the same as the mapped table entities and their use lies when we send data across the a web service. So , how can I proceed by creating a wrapper around the DBML file so that I always get data in my own created entites.

  • SQL code to insert multiple rows in ms-access table

    - by Thierry
    I'm trying to speed up my code and the bottleneck seems to be the individual insert statements to a Jet MDB from outside Access via ODBC. I need to insert 100 rows at a time and have to repeat that many times. It is possible to insert multiple rows in a table with SQL code? Here is some stuff that I tried but neither of them worked. Any suggestions? INSERT INTO tblSimulation (p, cfYear, cfLocation, Delta, Design, SigmaLoc, Sigma, SampleSize, Intercept) VALUES (0, 2, 8.3, 0, 1, 0.5, 0.2, 220, 3.4), (0, 2.4, 7.8, 0, 1, 0.5, 0.2, 220, 3.4), (0, 2.3, 5.9, 0, 1, 0.5, 0.2, 220, 3.4) INSERT INTO tblSimulation (p, cfYear, cfLocation, Delta, Design, SigmaLoc, Sigma, SampleSize, Intercept) VALUES (0, 2, 8.3, 0, 1, 0.5, 0.2, 220, 3.4) UNION (0, 2.4, 7.8, 0, 1, 0.5, 0.2, 220, 3.4) UNION (0, 2.3, 5.9, 0, 1, 0.5, 0.2, 220, 3.4)

  • What is so bad about using SQL INNER JOIN

    - by Stephen B. Burris Jr.
Everytime a database diagram gets looked out, one area people are critical of is inner joins. They look at them hard and has questions to see if an inner join really needs to be there. Simple Library Example: A many-to-many relationship is normally defined in SQL with three tables: Book, Category, BookCategory. In this situation, Category is a table that contains two columns: ID, CategoryName. In this situation, I have gotten questions about the Category table, is it need? Can it be used as a lookup table, and in the BookCategory table store the CategoryName instead of the CategoryID to stop from having to do an additional INNER JOIN. (For this question, we are going to ignore the changing, deleting of any CategoryNames) The question is, what is so bad about inner joins? At what point is doing them a negative thing (general guidelines like # of transactions, # of records, # of joins in a statement, etc)?

  • In LINQ-SQL, wrap the DataContext is an using statement - pros cons

    - by hIpPy
Can someone pitch in their opinion about pros/cons between wrapping the DataContext in an using statement or not in LINQ-SQL in terms of factors as performance, memory usage, ease of coding, right thing to do etc. Update: In one particular application, I experienced that, without wrapping the DataContext in using block, the amount of memory usage kept on increasing as the live objects were not released for GC. As in, in below example, if I hold the reference to List of q object and access entities of q, I create an object graph that is not released for GC. DataContext with using using (DBDataContext db = new DBDataContext()) { var q = from x in db.Tables where x.Id == someId select x; return q.toList(); } DataContext without using and kept alive DBDataContext db = new DBDataContext() var q = from x in db.Tables where x.Id == someId select x; return q.toList(); Thanks.

  • Pretty Printer for T-SQL?

    - by Paul
I'm looking for a good T-SQL Pretty Printer so that all the code looks consistant between developers in our project. Preferably a free/open source one, but paid for isn't out of the realms of possibility as long as it's reasonably priced. Are there any particular industry leaders? I'm not that fussed about what particular standard it uses, but the more configurable the better. That way we can have little style wars among the developers and have a bit of fun to boot. ;-) I suppose I should add that Visual Studio and Management Studio integration would be considered favourably.

  • Sql Server Service Broker Conversation Groups

    - by Brian Hasden
Can someone explain conversation groups in service broker? Currently, I'm using service broker to send messages from one SQL server to another. On the sending server, I'm trying to correlate the messages so they are processed in serial on the receiving side. Based on the documentation, conversation groups seem to be a perfect fit for this, but on the receiving server, the messages get assigned to a different conversation group from the one I specified when sending the message. I've search around the web and saw that this behavior seems to be intended (http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/forums/en-US/sqlservicebroker/thread/baf48074-6804-43ab-844a-cb28a6dce02b/), but then I'm confused about the usefulness of the syntax from (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms178624.aspx) WAITFOR( GET CONVERSATION GROUP @conversation_group_id FROM [dbo].[ReceiveQueue] ) If the conversation group doesn't come across with the message from the sender and messages sent with the same conversation group id don't have the same conversation group id on the receive side, what's the point of the code above?

  • Linq to SQL Error with Many-to-Many table

    - by Matt Connolly
I am getting the following error with linq-to-sql when I try to access a many-to-many collection: Members 'Int32 XXX' and 'Int32 YYY' both marked as IsPrimaryKey and IsDbGenerated. The statement is true, in that both of those columns are primary key integers with identity insert. The table I am trying to access has a foreign key to both YYY and ZZZ, and then ZZZ has a foreign key to XXX. There doesn't appear to be anything wrong with my data structure. I tried setting "Child Property" to false on the ZZZ-YYY relationship, but it didn't change anything.

  • Entity Framework and Sql Server view question

    - by Sergio Romero
Hi to all, For several reasons that I don't have the liberty to talk about, we are defining a view on our Sql Server 2005 database like so: CREATE VIEW [dbo].[MeterProvingStatisticsPoint] AS SELECT CAST(0 AS BIGINT) AS 'RowNumber', CAST(0 AS BIGINT) AS 'ProverTicketId', CAST(0 AS INT) AS 'ReportNumber', GETDATE() AS 'CompletedDateTime', CAST(1.1 AS float) AS 'MeterFactor', CAST(1.1 AS float) AS 'Density', CAST(1.1 AS float) AS 'FlowRate', CAST(1.1 AS float) AS 'Average', CAST(1.1 AS float) AS 'StandardDeviation', CAST(1.1 AS float) AS 'MeanPlus2XStandardDeviation', CAST(1.1 AS float) AS 'MeanMinus2XStandardDeviation' WHERE 0 = 1 The idea is that the Entity Framework will create an entity based on this query, which it does, but it generates it with an error that states the following: "warning 6002: The table/view 'Keystone_Local.dbo.MeterProvingStatisticsPoint' does not have a primary key defined. The key has been inferred and the definition was created as a read-only table/view." And it decides that the CompletedDateTime field will be this entity primary key. We are using EdmGen to generate the model. Is there a way not to have the entity framework include any field of this view as a primary key? Thanks for help.
