I have written an O/R database wrapper that generates some wrapper methods for stored procs it reads from the database.
Now I need to produce some custom wrapper code if an input parameter of a stored proc is defaulted to NULL. The problem is - I get stored proc parameters using:
SqlCommandBuilder.DeriveParameters(command)
and it doesn't bring parameter defaults. Is there any way to look up those defaults? Are they stored anywhere in the database?
BTW, I'm using SQL Server 2008
I would like to use the Upper extension method which is declared on the IDbMethods interface against Sql Server 2008.
I understand that this will translate to UPPER() on sql server.
However I can not figure out how to get an implementation of IDbMethods so that I can use the extension method.
Developed a winform project using VB 2008. I'm using a .xls sheet as source. My appln has 7 columns and unspecified rows. I want to sort all the columns based on a specified column and allot a serial number as per the sorted order. If two items in the specified column are same we should consider another column for the equal items and sort them in that order. plz help me in this issue.
Say you have a few DropDownLists that filter data:
Car Make: [Ford,Chevrolet,etc]
Car Year: [2010, 2009, 2008, etc]
Car Model: [LT, SLT, etc]
And you make a selection and not show that DDL again. Is there any standard place to maintain previously selected values? This is for a "drill down" menu system.
The Arcana Elite Suite for Intraweb hasn't been updated since March 2008. Does this mean it won't work with any bundled Intraweb later than Delphi 2007?
Anyone tried it with D2009 or D2010?

I'm looking for a netbook to do some dotnet development. Is there a recommended brand/configuration. I'm looking for reasonably good performance.
Here are some of my requirements:
Win 7 ultimate
MS Office
VS 2008 and VS 2010 when it's out
CodeRush
good size keyboard without having to do a Fn+Key for Insert, Home, End and Del keys
Preferably Core 2 Duo
Decent battery life
P.S. The config of the netbook handed out at PDC seems pretty awesome.
Hi! Using Pixel-Bender, it's possible to manipulate audio with effects, mixing channels etc. (http://www.kaourantin.net/2008/10/audio-mixing-with-pixel-bender.html). Could this technique somehow be applied to a video sound track?

The following code is generating warning C6284 when compiled with /analyze on MSVC 2008 : object passed as parameter '%s' when string is required in call to function.
CString strTmp, str;
str = L"aaa.txt"
strTmp.Format (L"File: %s", str);
I'm looking for a nice solution for this that would not require static_cast
My SQL Server 2008 database file (.mdf) file is nearly 24 MB but the log file grown upto 15 GB. If I want to shrink database what are the important points to take into consideration?
Will shrink causes any index fragmentation and does it affect my database performance?
Does C# provide an effective means of scanning the available COM ports? I would like to have a dropdown list in my application wherein the user can select one of the detected COM ports. Creating and populating the dropdown list is not a problem. I just need to know how to scan for the available COM ports using C#. I am using Microsoft Visual C# 2008 Express Edition. Thanks.
I used to just upload asp.net websites to the live server, and IIS compiles them automatically.
But when I do the same with asp.net MVC projects I just get errors, and I need to release Build the project before I upload it.
Note1: I'm using VWD 2008 Express
Note2: The project is working perfectly if I release build it on my machine then upload to the server
using
System.Type type = System.Type.GetTypeFromProgID("VisualStudio.DTE.9.0");
i can get hold of the type for an instance of Visual Studio. My question is where was it specified that the type of Visual Studio 2008 instance is "VisualStudio.DTE.9.0".
Can any one direct me how to find it using Ole/Com viewer. I believe the ProgId can be found from there.
I want to use YUI Compressor (the original) and use it as part of typical MS build processes (Visual Studio 2008, MSBuild).
Does anyone have any guidance or thoughts on this? For example, good ways for incorporating into project, what to do with existing CSS and JS references, and the like.
I am happy to hear on the benefits of YUI Compressor .NET and alternatives but I'm mor einterested in use of the original.
Thanks

Does VSTO 2008 work for Office 2010 or will it only be VSTO 2010? If it is VSTO 2010 then does this mean that I have to update all my clients to .NET 4.0?
Been using the new SQL 2012 Data Tools SQL Server Database Project in VS 2010. Every time we do a schema compare we have to set the options for the current compare. This does not seem to be tied back to the global compare options you can set in Tools Options. Does anybody know where to set the 'new' global compare options.
NOTE: This is the new SQL 2012 compare from Data Tools, and not the old 2005/2008 compare that comes standard with Studio 2010.
Ok, I installed the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Backward Compatibility Components here file:///C:/Users/davids/AppData/Local/Temp/instructions_enu.htm but I guess these dlls are not in this.
Anyone know where the heck I can get these? Yes, I'm running SQL 2008 so they are missing because they're for 2005.
Microsoft.SqlServer.ConnectionInfo.dll
Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo
...
I have been trying using MS VSTS 2008, no luck so far..
After the redirection from server to accomodate the sessionID in URL, the test fails during the first time recording.
I am open to looking at other tools which are not very expensive.
Does anyone have any experience using any tool for testing cookieless sessionID website?
Hi,
I just noticed that if I have an identity column in a table, when I insert new rows MS SQL 2008 is automatically filling up the sequence if there are discontinuity. I mean, if in my identity column I have 1,2,5,6 if I insert other two rows in the table the system puts automatically 3,7 in the identity column.
Do you know how to control this behavior?
THANKS
ETA: I use visual studio 2008 express edition.
If I override WndProc and mess up somehow, I'll usually backtrack by commenting out code until it works again.
The strange thing with WndProc though is you can strip it down to:
Protected Overrides Sub WndProc(ByRef m As System.Windows.Forms.Message)
MyBase.WndProc((m))
End Sub
and it still throws the error.
I have to remove the code and retype it in to reset the error.
Anyone else experienced this?
I am using a Microsoft Chart control (system.windows.forms.datavisualization.charting.chart) in a Windows forms application, vb.net 2008. I use folder paths for the x values in a pie chart. Chart control converts a name like c:\newfolder into c:[newline]ewfolder. I tried adding a slash, making it c:\\newfolder, but this only changes it to c:\[newline]ewfolder. Is there a workaround for this behavior?
I recently installed windows 7, visual studio 2008, and .net framework 3.5.
With these installed, I was unable to find the .net framework configuration tool.
It should be located in %windir%\Microsoft.net\framework\v2.0.507727\ with the file name mscorcfg.msc
The only place I found something similar is in %windir%\Microsoft.net\framework\v1.0.3705 where there are files named mscormmc.cfg and mscormmc.dll
Any idea where to get the configuration tool?
