• Photo Gallery Software - reads from a local directory - watches folder- user and group permissions

  Use Case: Photos are organised in a folder structure by date (by software lightroom/picasa) Want to run a local webserver to host a web gallery from (already know how to run lamp etc) I want to be able to attach metadata to the photos (probably through a database not residing in the photos folder) such that they can be tagged/categoried/albumed without affecting the original photos I want to be able to assign permissions to different albums to set users I want the software to watch the photo source folder for changes so that new photos are indexed ready for applying metadata and albums. I'd like the software to handle the rendering of numerous file types (photo formats) as well as video formatts I am language agnostic so php/python heck even c#, just want software that forfills the requirements. The main reason I am asking this question here as I am unsure what this software would even be called so google searching is quite difficult! Thanks for reading.

• Burn MP4 to CD in ubuntu 12.04

  I have an mp4 file (115,8 mb). I want to burn it to a Sony CD-R (700 mb) to watch on tv. I tried to do it with DeVeDe from ubuntu software center but it always give me this error: "Conversion failed. It seems a bug of Mencoder." Can anyone tell me an other method to burn my mp4 to cd? Or can anyone tell me how to fix DeVeDe's error? I use a TOSHIBA computer (64 bit) with windows 7 home premium and ubuntu 12.04 LTS (installed via wubi.exe). Thx.

  The news of the Sybase acquisition broke yesterday. The questions that immediately come to mind is " Why?" and "Isnt this too expensive ?" One out-of-the-box explanation for this marriage is simply " History repeats itself" It is more than a decade now that another German company acquired an American industry laggard. I am speaking of the Daimler-Chysler merger. It took a decade for the results of that partnership to unfold. Do things move faster in the IT industry? We will wait and watch.

• Commands to run when Connecting HDMI

  Everytime I connect my pc to my tv using my HDMI cable (to watch my movies), I have to manually go to: 1- Monitors, to select "mirror" screen to HDMI 2- Sound, to select the HDMI as default sound output 3- Screen Off an Lock, to avoid screen locking while watching a video. Is there a way I can automate this? Or at least write a script with commands that will do this. (I could manually run a script every time I connect my HDMI, and then run annother one to undo the changes later) How can I do these actions from a Command Line?

• Oracle Usability Advisory Board, Europe

  Earlier this month, I attended the first Oracle Usability Advisory Board meeting in Europe (held in Oracle's big campus in Thames Valley Park, Reading, in the UK). My main interest here of of course was to listen to customer's experiences and requirements in the area of user experience, focusing in on user assistance natch, but also, given my background in the translation and internationalization world, to watch out for issues in those areas that impact on the UX. I met some great people there and took away some powerful UX thoughts about where might go with the area of language in the UI, localizations, and other cultural issues. One area of special interest to me is language as part of the user experience. By language I mean terminology and style of wordings you see in interfaces and help. Are they reflective of how people really work and are used to. What is its relationship to competitiveness and productivity. An area rich in research potential for UX. And following the Texture to Polygonmsample i used this line to create the shape, where farseerObject is a list of vertices of the triangles: _compound = BodyFactory.CreateCompoundPolygon(World, farseerObject, 1f, BodyType.Dynamic); But I have to update the body each frame (like 30 fps) and this is very slow. I get just 2 or 3 fps. There's another (faster) way to create the Body from a list of triangles or the contour vertices?

  I'm thinking of applying Reflective Practice to improving my programming skills. To that end, I want to be able to watch myself writing code. In general, what is a good method for applying Reflective Practice to the craft of programming? In particular, if it's a good idea, is there an editor that records keystrokes then plays them back at a later time - possibly running the keys together without delays, or replaying at a 2x/4x/8x accelerated rate? Screencasting with RecordMyDesktop is an option, but has downsides of waiting for encoding and ending up with a big video file instead of a list of keystrokes.

  I have Ubuntu 11.10. Yesterday I make some distribution updates with Update Manager. And now I can't start my Ubuntu. Then permanent dark gray screen Was related problem with updating from 11.04 to 11.10. Ufter that update Ubuntu not start too and I must reinstall Ubuntu. Help me pls and ask questions if needed.

• Issues with nVidia GeForce 210 while watching movies

  Ever since 10.04 I have been trying to resolve an issue with my graphics card - nVidia GeForce 210. I'm having issues when I watch movies on 10.10 - they are jumping all the time, even with Compiz disabled and when that is the only thing I am doing. I have tried the solution to How to get NVidia GeForce GT 210 drivers working on Lucid Lynx? but it didn't work. How can I fix this? Here are the steps I took: apt-get --purge remove xserver-xorg-video-nouveau edit /etc/default/grub to add the line GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="nouveau.modeset=0" sudo update-grub Reboot Download official Linux drivers from nVidia site. sh filename-of-downloaded-driver-package

  i'm pleased to find place full of experts who can help me i'm new in programming ,and i went to course about C# basics + SQL i want to learn WPF to work on my own desktop application project i dont know how to start ..i'm lost sometimes i open VS2012 put contols here and there ..then i feel i miss information so i stop feel depressed other times i open books like WPF4.5 unleashed and after while i get bored of reading and complexed expressions i face other times i go to youtube watch some videos after all i dont do anything right .. i dont know how to start what are right steps to be professional in programming? should i revise what i took in C# basics and sql?? i wish you provide me with clear steps to begin successfully i'm sorry if my question is open or in wrong place forgive me thank you all
