    Hi, I'm looking for a way to minimize the net traffic use with my netbook mobile internet connection. Recently I managed to install Opera Mini on the XP and the opera approach of compressing the data helped a lot. But I would like to do the same with my favorite browser using http proxy that compress the data "on the fly". But searching for "compression proxy servers" I could not find any working host/port links. Is it a brand-new technology and therefore expensive or rarely available?

I am planning to answer questions like: what is the average load, over the last 30 days, on this machine between 9AM and 5PM, as opposed to at night what was the average disk io on these 10 machines yesterday what was the average daytime memory usage on these 10 machines last week, as opposed to 2 weeks ago Has anyone done this with, say, collectd or graphite?

  • Capture Outgoing Email to One Mailbox or Account on Linux

    I am looking to see if anything exists that would allow us to capture all outgoing email on a machine -- for example, in a staging environment -- and drop it in a single place, which ideally would be something we could check with a mail client. Currently we're doing this on the software level (if environment is staging, rewrite address) which is a bit ugly and leads to errors. The servers are currently on Debian Linux, using exim as the mail transport. Open to any and all suggestions!

  • Windows: make browsers do a DNS-lookup even when the Computer is offline

    I use a local DNS-Server (MicroDNS) which I set via netsh to redirect any query to my own page. A little webserver running inside my software answering something like "this page is not whitelisted". It works when connected to the Internet but does not work when offline. The Browsers stop looking up the DNS. How could I make Browsers go to my page, whatever I enter in the address line, WHEN OFFLINE?

    I'm trying to add a linked server to an Excel 2010 file from SQL Server 2012. Every reference I've found online for doing this is using older versions of SQL Server, and the driver that they tell you to use 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0', is not present in 2012 from what I can tell. I've done some research and couldn't find any specific technical difference in general usage.     As you might know sandboxing software doesn't work in 64bit Windows due to patchguard. What are the alternatives for a person looking to test untrusted / temporary software? Edit: @Nick I'd prefer an alternative to VMs as I'm not happy with the extended startup time, the extra login sequences and the memory overhead that accompanies booting a VM solution to test something out ocassionally as a home user. Also it's another system that needs to be kept secure and up to date.

I have about 930 pictures which are called like: 5210841 Tuinset Senator.jpg 5210898 Traptrede Premium.jpg etc. I'm looking for a way to rename these pictures, without losing the number part. So for the first one, its name would be: 5210841.jpg and the second 5210898.jpg Can you guys think about a program which can do this job? It's for a Windows platform.

    Hi, I'm looking for the rewrite rule for mod_rewrite in Apache so that when asking for a specific subdirectory, it and all its contents gets redirected to another location. I currently have the following: RewriteEngine on RewriteRule ^/SUBDIRECTORY(/.*)? /another/location But this only manages to redirect /SUBDIRECTORY requests to the desired location, while all others (like (/SUBDIRECTORY/ , /SUBDIRECTORY/anything/else ) gets me an error telling me that the redirection is not valid... any ideas?   • Function keys over SSH/PuTTY to SCO unix

    I am trying to set up SSH to a SCO Unix server that runs custom software that uses the function keys on the keyboard, however the keys do not appear to be in the correct format for SCO to recognise. None of the keyboard options on PuTTY work, including the SCO option. How do I change the keycodes that SCO/bash is looking for when it wants a function key? If it helps, the system is upgrading from Wyse50 terminals. thanks!
