  • Gridview Datasource Server error

    - by salvationishere
I am developing a C# VS 2008 and SQL Server 2008 website. However, I get the below error now when I first run this: The DataSourceID of 'GridView1' must be the ID of a control of type IDataSource. • Tools to update tables in SQL server 2000/2005

    - by Stan
Is there any handy tool that can make updating tables easier? Usually I got an Excel file with the original value in one column and new value in another column. Then I write a formula in Excel to create the 'update' statement. Is there any way to simplify the updating task? I believe the approach in SQL server 2000 and 2005 would be different, so could we discuss them both? Thanks.

What gives?

I want to create some mad robust code. I want to take a query as a string, create a temporary view / table to store the results, use it, then drop the table. I want to use a name that is guaranteed to not already exist in the database. Is there an SQL command to generate a unique table name? I'm using postgresql if this is implementation-specific.

  • SQL concatenate rows query

    - by bobobobo
Say we have a table table posts +---------+-----------+--------------------------------+ | postId | title | status | bodyText | +---------+-----------+--------------------------------+ | 1 | Hello! | deleted | A deleted post! | | 2 | Hello 2! | deleted | Another one! | Can we, in SQL, retrieve a concatenation of a field across rows, by issuing a single query, not having to do the join up in a loop in our back-end code? Something like select title from posts group by status ; Should give "Hello!, Hello 2!"

  • concatenate arbitrary long list of matches in SQL subquery

    - by lordvlad
imagine 2 tables (rather stupid example, but for the sake of simplicity, here you go) words word_id letters letter word_id how can i select all words while selecting all letters that belong to a word and concatenating them to said word? it is important that the letters are returned in the order they appear in the table, as the letter may be mixed into other words, but the order is correct. |word_id| |word_id|letter| +-------+ +-------+------+ | 1| | 1| H| | 2| | 2| B| | 2| Y| | 1| I| | 2| E| should return |word_id|word| +-------+----+ | 1| HI| | 2| BYE| any way to accomplish this in pure SQL?
