Is there a way to show all tray icons in the Windows Task Bar of Windows XP, permanently?
I don't like to go over tray icons and extend them each time I need to see a specific icon.
Hi all,
I wish to have an address book where I can also record information about people and my interaction with them.
What services/softwares do you find useful for this task? How and Why?
Thanks.
Have configured my asa 5520 with all the interfaces
inside -- 10.11.12.1
outside - 70.71.72.4
Have not connected the management interface ..left it as is.
Im remotely accessing this firewall from a different location by SSH, but would like to use the asdm to access it remotely. I have configured the HTTP SERVER enable and assigned
http 10.11.12.254 255.255.255.255 inside
Please can someone let me know the config which can help me access this firewall using ASDM.
I have a number of scheduled tasks which simply open a web page in Windows Server 2008 R2. They used to run and end without abending, but now they open and stay open and I have to setup the task to quit them by force before their next scheduled run. I've thought about installing CURL or WGET, but is there a way to do this with R2 without going to that step?
Regards.
I'm currently assigned the task of standardizing new laptops before deploying them to the field. Are there certain guidelines to evaluating a new test laptop. As for example, the processor speed, the applications used, the load on the CPU and RAM.
Hi,
I am new to sql server and was wondering if anyone can recommend any good articles on to setup the server so I can browse the database remotely with management studio and allow a program to connect remotely?
Thanks in advance.
What software is used by buy-side investment companies? For educational purposes, could anyone describe IT infrastructure of a typical buy-side investment company: a hedge fund, a mutual fund or a wealth management company. No particular details are needed, just what type of software is used how different software modules interact with each other. Am I asking too much?
Dear Sir,
We have get task for Final Project "Configuring of Network Based Intrusion Prevention System from Open Source" during my final semister.
We have no knoledge about this. Please tell about Snort_Inline and which platform is best for install it & How can configure it.
I need to be able to export SQL Server logs into CSV files, which I can easily do with the export function. However in doing so I've noticed there's a range of dates missing from the SQL Server logs in Management Studio, two months actually. I'm wondering where these logs might be found, and if it's possible to reload them so I can view and then export them.
They're strictly for informational purposes, but I do need them. Thanks in advance!
all the googling I've done only shows me how to lock or unlock it, how to hide it, or how to control the grouping setting. What I'm looking for specifically is, when you make the task bar one or two or three levels deep, or even zero levels which isn't the same as hiding it, where is that stored in the registry?
I have 16gb of ram installed in my computer, and nearly 70% of it is used at all times. Looking at the processes in task manager the memory being used with everything in there doesn't even add up to 2gb. I have RAPID mode enabled on my ssd which may be using 2gb at most so I would understand that. I am thinking there might be a memory leak somewhere, but I don't really know how I would be able to tell. My performance and process list is below:
If I launch an application from my local drive, I can right click on the icon in the task bar and it gives me an option to pin to the taskbar. But an application launched from a network drive does not give me that option.
I'd like to encode uncompressed video into compressed avi or mpeg4. Was wondering what program I should look at getting to do such a task. Videos are between 3 and 20 minutes long, and range anywhere from 1.3 to 10 GBs in uncompressed .avi form (fraps).
I'd like to know what are the differences bettwen differents operating systems working as server and what operating system is better using for an specific task like linux, unix, windows, solaris, novell, etcetera.
It's not about a specific problem, it's just to know, for example, windows server works better with SQL Server, or Ruby with MacOS
It's just I think some of us don't know what to choose when we have to use some specific technology
I need to implement a gateway that will allow me to control the access to the internet of a network made up of a about half a dozen of workstations. My main obejectives are the following:
1- Monitoring of traffic
2- Logging of traffic
3- Access control - block websites (mainly adult) and certian traffic(example torrents)
4- Possibly cache content
5- Easy management interface
6- Preferable free and opensource
Serverfault users can you please suggest from your vast experience which software you think is the best to suit my needs?
Any suggestion is greatly appreciated.
Thank you
I have a pen drive with some folders in it's root. I want to encrypt all of them except one.
Is possible to do this with TrueCrypt? Maybe this is not the right tool for this task, but I don't know any other.
I want to create recovery media (DVD or HDD) for my Windows 7 running on my VAIO laptop. I noticed that my HDD is already having 13.51 GB partition which is labelled as "Recovery Partition" (not visible in My Computer but visible in Computer management tool in control panel).
Can you please suggest me how to use this Recovery partition as a recovery media for my windows? I don't want to create DVDs as recovery media.
I got infected by a virus. It looks like I removed it, but it somehow injected a few more processes (I can see them in the task manager) that respawn when I kill them (somehow). Is there a way to destroy those process to stop them from respawning, or in the case something else is respawning them, to kill that "something"?
We are evaluating system center operations manager 2007 R2 product, and would like to know what all roles can be combined onto single server.
Like root management server and reporting servers can be on one box or not?
my environment is like 450 servers mostly Exchange and Domain Controllers plus few OCS servers.
I've recently taken over management of a Windows 2003 Small Business Server and network for a small, less than ten person company.
I have some (antiquated) sysadmin experience, but I've little experience with Exchange.
The documentation of the existing infrastructure leaves much to be desired, and I was wondering if there's any sort of "So you've just become sysadmin" guides that anyone could recommend.
I have an Transcend pendrive, and when I connect it and double click it to explore, it is showing the error:
Please insert a disk into drive
Also In the properties field it is showing
File system- Unknown
Used space- 0 bytes
free space- 0 bytes
capacity- 0 bytes
I tried to format it using using the command prompt but it is not showing in the list disk command. It is also not showing in the Disk Management.
I established a remote session in a MacOSX (10.6.8) from my PC (Windows7) using VNC.
I initiated terminal and it is currently executing a task that will take probably 1 day before completing. Should I expect that even if I disconnect the VNC session, Terminal will keep running after I disconnect? I assume so since I used VNC just to remotely start the process but want to double check. Can anybody tell me if I am wrong?
Is it possible using Cacti to have it give you a list of machines that meet a certain criteria? For example, what are the machines that have had an average cpu load over 50% during the past week? What machines have 5% free disk space? etc. etc.
I haven't been able to find any suitable plugins, does anyone know of anything that can perform this task?
The cluster managing software for managing clusters on a windows server 2005 cluster had a checkbox for "allow application to interact with desktop" when creating a generic application resource. This appears to be gone in the management software for server 2008 clusters. Does anyone know where this option, if it still exists, is?
Task at hand
After a virtual disk has been added to a Linux VM on vSphere 5, we need to identify the disks in order to automate the LVM storage provision.
The virtual disks may reside on different datastores (e.g. sas or flash) and although they may be of the same size, their speed may vary. So I need a method to map the vSphere disks to Linux devices.
Ideas
Through the vSphere API, I am able to get the device info:
Data Object Type: VirtualDiskFlatVer2BackingInfo
Parent Managed Object ID: vm-230
Property Path: config.hardware.device[2000].backing
Properties
Name Type Value
ChangeId string Unset
contentId string "d58ec8c12486ea55c6f6d913642e1801"
datastore ManagedObjectReference:Datastore datastore-216 (W5-CFAS012-Hybrid-CL20-004)
deltaDiskFormat string "redoLogFormat"
deltaGrainSize int Unset
digestEnabled boolean false
diskMode string "persistent"
dynamicProperty DynamicProperty[] Unset
dynamicType string Unset
eagerlyScrub boolean Unset
fileName string "[W5-CFAS012-Hybrid-CL20-004] l****9-000001.vmdk"
parent VirtualDiskFlatVer2BackingInfo parent
split boolean false
thinProvisioned boolean false
uuid string "6000C295-ab45-704e-9497-b25d2ba8dc00"
writeThrough boolean false
And on Linux I may read the uuid strings:
[root@lx***** ~]# lsscsi -t
[1:0:0:0] cd/dvd ata: /dev/sr0
[2:0:0:0] disk sas:0x5000c295ab45704e /dev/sda
[3:0:0:0] disk sas:0x5000c2932dfa693f /dev/sdb
[3:0:1:0] disk sas:0x5000c29dcd64314a /dev/sdc
As you can see, the uuid string of disk /dev/sda looks somehow familiar to the string that is visible in the VMware API. Only the first hex digit is different (5 vs. 6) and it is only present to the third hyphen. So this looks promising...
Alternative idea
Select disks by controller. But is it reliable that the ascending SCSI Id also matches the next vSphere virtual disk? What happens if I add another DVD-ROM drive / USB Thumb drive? This will probably introduce new SCSI devices in between. Thats the cause why I think I will discard this idea.
Questions
Does someone know an easier method to map vSphere disks and Linux devices?
Can someone explain the differences in the uuid strings? (I think this has something to do with SAS adressing initiator and target... WWN like...)
May I reliably map devices by using those uuid strings?
How about SCSI virtual disks? There is no uuid visible then...
This task seems to be so obvious. Why doesn't Vmware think about this and simply add a way to query the disk mapping via Vmware Tools?
