  • Question about Byte-Pairing for data compression [closed]

    Question about Byte-Pairing for data compression. If byte pairing converts two byte values to a single byte value, splitting the file in half, then taking a gig file and recusing it 16 times shrinks it to 62,500,000. My question is, is byte-pairing really efficient? Is the creation of a 5,000,000 iteration loop, to be conservative, efficient? I would like some feed back on and some incisive opinions please.   • Does C++ support subtyping?

    I know it might be a silly question to ask, but I didn't quite get an a absolute clear answer on this matter, so I thought I'd put it here. Does c++ support the subtyping in the sense that it fulfills Liskov's principle fully? I understand how parametric polymorphism, inclusion polymorphism(subclassing and overriding) work in c++ but I'm not entirely sure or understand if subtyping exists in the context of C++. Could you please explain?

  • Skype/14.04: no sound output in conversations

    I installed Skype 4.2 via PPA on my fresh 14.04 system. Skype itself makes notification sounds (though distorted), but when I am in a conversation, I receive neither sound, nor video. I tested it with my mom, she could hear and see me, but I couldn't see or hear her, and the sound test is quiet too. I didn't install any additional drivers yet, as I'm much of a newbie I'm not sure which ones to choose. Please let me know if you need any command outputs.

  • When is a Kernel update due for 11.10?

    Thanks to Phoronix there seems to be a fix for the power regression/overheating bug in the Linux Kernel 3.0.1 bouncing around on the Internet. However this supposed fix which I read has been patched to the Kernel in a testing phase is not newbie-friendly (if you know what I mean).   • In a GUI based Application in Linux It is working properly in some systems,But segmentation fault (Because of SIGSEGV signal) is coming in others.Why? [closed]

    The application consists of Driver code,a Source Object file(.so) ,and a Application code to interact with a hardware Card.. The problem comes in a mmap().It reads address from a card. But it is not getting the correct address in some systems.The Error is because of It is receiving a SIGSEGV signal and segmentation fault followed to that.But in some system which having the same version of kernel is not at all facing the problem and working properly. So please any one suggest the Reason and Remedy for this Problem.

Does not appear anywhere and after several tries all I got in return was the /home folder with the Lost+Found folder in it saying "The content of this folder can not be accessed.     I am attempting to run CafeOBJ on my ubuntu 12.04 OS. It wont open, when I try to run this on my other windows 7 OS i get a LIBEAY error message. What do I do to run this program that used to run fine on the windows OS. I have installed correctly and all files are present, but the cafeOBJ application is not considered an application by the laptop. In summation I am having LOADS of fun screaming at my laptop to try to make it understand. Please some one help!!!

    I installed wine by doing sudo apt-get install wine and everything went well, but at the end I get the "Package configuration" and the title says configuring ttf-mscorefonts-installer and they talk about 1.GRANT OF LICENSE 2.DESCRIPITION OF OTHER GRANTS AND LIMITATIONS 3.COPYRIGHT U.S. GOVERNMENT RESTRICTED RIGHTS The problem is that they give all this at the end but there is nothing I can do say "ok" or something, thus, wine is not installed.     My Synaptics Touchpad v7.4 won't move when I'm using my arrow keys. Everywhere I've looked on the internet is telling me to go to Device Pointer Properties Settings Pointing Sensitivity Palm Check and adjust those Palm Check settings, but that option isn't there and it isn't anywhere else. I've also read about going to something called "Smart Sense" but I didn't see that either. If someone could please help me, I would really appreciate it.

When I just type a simple text manually, It just appears as it was.But the problem is when I copy the test from other websites like wikipedia, an empty paragraph is rendered in the beginning of the string, which is making my page look odd.     I've just installed Ubuntu 12.04 and now that I want to install a program through the terminal with a command starting with sudo, the terminal says Sorry, try again. I just don't get it, this is my user password which I check with through the Software Center. What can be then wrong? (Is it possible that the terminal function differently than the rest of the OS in relation to ASCII keyboard?) Please help.
