  • Lazyloading images and SEO

    - by surpr
Lazyloading images with a noscript fallback. Should I expect any damage in the SERPs? The site is completely thumbnail based. Also should I put a smaller image size in the noscript fallback to increase crawlability? We have nearly 1mil thumbs so it's a decision I'm hesitant to do. The reason why I'm thinking about it in the first place is because we're upping thumbail size about 50% which will add 10% of pagesize.

  • Do extra words in url affect SEO?

    - by smp7d
Often for technical reasons we end up with some extra words in a url that we would not want to optimize for as they would have no bearing on the content. Examples would be: sportssite.com/content/sports-article movieportal.com/node/movie-review electronicsforum.com/blog/top-10-cameras webmasters.stackexchange.com/questions/34046/do-extra-words-in-url-affect-seo Do these have any affect on ranking in any of the major search engines? Would it behoove us to strip the extra words?

Here's what I tried on terminal: sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install wine It shows: Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... This may mean that you have requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable distribution that some required packages have not yet been created or been moved out of Incoming. The following information may help to resolve the situation: The following packages have unmet dependencies: wine : Depends: wine1.3 but it is not going to be installed Depends: ia32-libs (>= 1.6) but it is not going to be installed Depends: lib32asound2 (> 1.0.14) but it is not going to be installed Depends: libc6-i386 (>= 2.6-1) but it is not going to be installed Depends: lib32nss-mdns (>= 0.10-3) but it is not going to be installed E: Broken packages Any body faced this? • Why Java's JMF doesn't work in Linux?

    - by Visruth CV
I got to do some image processing program in java using Linux. I chose to use the JMF for my camera (a webcam) access. But my program is not able to access the camera. But, the jmf works well in Windows. I downloaded jmf from oracle.com and I tried to install it in 'Ubuntu 10.10-the Maverick-released in October 2010 and supported until April 2012'. The downloaded file was a .bin file. I got the below output (last part of the output) when I tried the command provided by oracle /bin/sh ./jmf-2_1_1e-linux-i586.bin. For inquiries please contact: Sun Microsystems, Inc. 4150 Network Circle, Santa Clara, California 95054. LFI# 129621/Form ID#011801 Do you agree to the above license terms? I checked out the driver of the camera, it is available in the os itself I think because other softwares are able to access the camera (web cam). I tried it on both desktop and laptop, but no effect... Is there any solution for the problem?

• MarteEngine Tile Collision

    - by opiop65
    I need to add collision to my tile map using MarteEngine. MarteEngine is built of of slick2D. Here's my tile generation code: Code: public void render(GameContainer gc, StateBasedGame game, Graphics g) throws SlickException { for (int x = 0; x < 16; x++) { for (int y = 0; y < 16; y++) { map[x][y] = AIR; air.draw(x * GameWorld.tilesize, y * GameWorld.tilesize); } } for (int x = 0; x < 16; x++) { for (int y = 7; y < 8; y++) { map[x][y] = GRASS; grass.draw(x * tilesize, y * tilesize); } } for (int x = 0; x < 16; x++) { for (int y = 8; y < 10; y++) { map[x][y] = DIRT; dirt.draw(x * tilesize, y * tilesize); } } for (int x = 0; x < 16; x++) { for (int y = 10; y < 16; y++) { map[x][y] = STONE; stone.draw(x * tilesize, y * tilesize); } } super.render(gc, game, g); } And one of my tile classes (they're all the same, the image names are just different): Code: package MarteEngine; import org.newdawn.slick.Image; import org.newdawn.slick.SlickException; import it.randomtower.engine.entity.Entity; public class Grass extends Entity { public static Image grass = null; public Grass(float x, float y) throws SlickException { super(x, y); grass = new Image("res/grass.png"); setHitBox(0, 0, 50, 50); addType(SOLID); } } I tried to do it like this: Code: for (int x = 0; x < 16; x++) { for (int y = 7; y < 8; y++) { map[x][y] = GRASS; Grass.grass.draw(x * tilesize, y * tilesize); } } But it gave me a NullPointerException. No idea why, everything looks initialized right? I would be very grateful for some help!

  • PowerPivot: Putting two stocks on the same PivotChart

    - by AlbertoFerrari
In a previous post , I have used a stock exchange scenario to speak about how to compute moving averages in a complex scenario. Playing with the same scenario, I felt the need to compare two stocks on the same chart, choosing the stock names with a slicer. As always, a picture is worth a thousand words, the final result I want to achieve is something like this, where I am comparing Microsoft over Apple during the last 10 years. It is clear that I am not going to comment in any way why traders seem...(read more)

  • How many disk should I use to meed the capacity and IOPS need?

    - by facebook-100005613813158
An application needs 1.6 TB of storage capacity and performs 1000 IOPS. How many disks are required to meet the application requirement and offer acceptable response time? The disk specifications are as follows: - Drive capacity = 100 GB - 15K RPM - Each disk can perform 50 IOPS 4 candidate , 10,12,16,20, which one is the most likely answer? in my opinion,16 disks can only meet the capacity need ,but cannot meet the IOPS need, so ,the right answer should be 20 disks?right?

  • Interim Patches for CVE-2011-4313 released through MOS

    - by Alan
As reported on the article on the Sun Security Blog, interim patches are available for Solaris 8,9 and 10 directly from MOS without the need to log a Service Request. There is also Interim Relief available for Solaris 11, but at this point in time that will still require a Service Request. As seen from running "named -V", these patches implement the same fix as ISC by taking Bind to the version:BIND 9.6-ESV-R5-P1.

  • Are separate business objects needed when persistent data can be stored in a usable format?

    - by Kylotan
I have a system where data is stored in a persistent store and read by a server application. Some of this data is only ever seen by the server, but some of it is passed through unaltered to clients. So, there is a big temptation to persist data - whether whole rows/documents or individual fields/sub-documents - in the exact form that the client can use (eg. JSON), as this removes various layers of boilerplate, whether in the form of procedural SQL, an ORM, or any proxy structure which exists just to hold the values before having to re-encode them into a client-suitable form. This form can usually be used on the server too, though business logic may have to live outside of the object, On the other hand, this approach ends up leaking implementation details everywhere. 9 times out of 10 I'm happy just to read a JSON structure out of the DB and send it to the client, but 1 in every 10 times I have to know the details of that implicit structure (and be able to refactor access to it if the stored data ever changes). And this makes me think that maybe I should be pulling this data into separate business objects, so that business logic doesn't have to change when the data schema does. (Though you could argue this just moves the problem rather than solves it.) There is a complicating factor in that our data schema is constantly changing rapidly, to the point where we dropped our previous ORM/RDBMS system in favour of MongoDB and an implicit schema which was much easier to work with. So far I've not decided whether the rapid schema changes make me wish for separate business objects (so that server-side calculations need less refactoring, since all changes are restricted to the persistence layer) or for no separate business objects (because every change to the schema requires the business objects to change to stay in sync, even if the new sub-object or field is never used on the server except to pass verbatim to a client). So my question is whether it is sensible to store objects in the form they are usually going to be used, or if it's better to copy them into intermediate business objects to insulate both sides from each other (even when that isn't strictly necessary)? And I'd like to hear from anybody else who has had experience of a similar situation, perhaps choosing to persist XML or JSON instead of having an explicit schema which has to be assembled into a client format each time.

  • Can I use one set of images to represent multiple sprites in Java?

    - by mal
I've got a game that has 3 basic sprites, at the moment I'm loading 8 images into each sprite for animating. Each character class has a sprite object. if I've got 10 characters on screen at once then that's 80 images loaded in to memory. Can I make a central sprite class that only holds 8 images for each of the 3 sprites, then get the character objects to request the relevant images from the central sprite class, thereby massively reducing the memory required for the images?
