  • An Interactive Console I/O Wrapper/Interceptor in C# - What is the issue?

    - by amazedsaint
    I was trying to put together an interactive Console interceptor/wrapper in C# over the weekend, by re-mixing few code samples I've found in SO and other sites. With what I've as of now, I'm unable to read back from the console reliably. Any quick pointers? public class ConsoleInterceptor { Process _interProc; public event Action<string> OutputReceivedEvent; public ConsoleInterceptor() { _interProc = new Process(); _interProc.StartInfo = new ProcessStartInfo("cmd"); InitializeInterpreter(); } public ConsoleInterceptor(string command) { _interProc = new Process(); _interProc.StartInfo = new ProcessStartInfo(command); InitializeInterpreter(); } public Process InterProc { get { return _interProc; } } private void InitializeInterpreter() { InterProc.StartInfo.RedirectStandardInput = true; InterProc.StartInfo.RedirectStandardOutput = true; InterProc.StartInfo.RedirectStandardError = true; InterProc.StartInfo.CreateNoWindow = true; InterProc.StartInfo.UseShellExecute = false; InterProc.StartInfo.WindowStyle = ProcessWindowStyle.Hidden; bool started = InterProc.Start(); Redirect(InterProc.StandardOutput); Redirect(InterProc.StandardError); } private void Redirect(StreamReader input) { new Thread((a) => { var buffer = new char[1]; while (true) { if (input.Read(buffer, 0, 1) > 0) OutputReceived(new string(buffer)); }; }).Start(); } private void OutputReceived(string text) { if (OutputReceivedEvent != null) OutputReceivedEvent(text); } public void Input(string input) { InterProc.StandardInput.WriteLine(input); InterProc.StandardInput.Flush(); } }

  • Problem pulling data from website in .NET and C#

    - by Cptcecil
    I have written a web scraping program to go to a list of pages and write all the html to a file. The problem is that when I pull a block of text some of the characters get written as '?'. How do I pull those characters into my text file? Here is my code: string baseUri = String.Format("http://www.rogersmushrooms.com/gallery/loadimage.asp?did={0}&blockName={1}", id.ToString(), name.Trim()); // our third request is for the actual webpage after the login. HttpWebRequest request = (HttpWebRequest)WebRequest.Create(baseUri); request.Method = "GET"; request.UserAgent = "Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 8.0; Windows NT 6.1)"; //get the response object, so that we may get the session cookie. HttpWebResponse response = (HttpWebResponse)request.GetResponse(); StreamReader reader = new StreamReader(response.GetResponseStream()); // and read the response string page = reader.ReadToEnd(); StreamWriter SW; string filename = string.Format("{0}.txt", id.ToString()); SW = File.AppendText("C:\\Share\\" + filename); SW.Write(page); reader.Close(); response.Close();

  • Receiving generic typed <T> custom objects through remote object in Flex

    - by Aaron
    Is it possible to receive custom generic typed objects through AMF? I'm trying to integrate a flex app with an existing C# service but flex is choking on custom generic typed objects. As far as I can tell Flex doesn't even support generics, but I'd like to be able to even just read in the object and cast its members as necessary. I basically just want flex to ignore the <T>. I'm hopeful that there's a way to do this, since flex doesn't complain about typed collections (a server call returning List works fine and flex converts it to an ArrayCollection just like an un-typed List). Here's a trimmed down example of what's going on for me: The custom C# typed class public class TypeTest<T> { public T value { get; set; } public TypeTest () { } } The server method returning the typeTest public TypeTest<String> doTypeTest() { TypeTest<String> theTester = new TypeTest<String>("grrrr"); return theTester; } The corresponding flex value object: [RemoteClass(alias="API.Model.TypeTest")] public class TypeTest { private var _value:Object; public function get value():Object { return _value; } public function set value(theValue:Object):void { _value = value; } public function TypeTest() { } } and the result handler code: public function doTypeTest(result:TypeTest):void { var theString:String = result.value as String; trace(theString); } When the result handler is called I get the runtime error: TypeError: Error #1034: Type Coercion failed: cannot convert mx.utils::ObjectProxy@11a98041 to com.model.vos.TypeTest. Irritatingly if I change the result handler to take parameter of type Object it works fine. Anyone know how to make this work with the value object? I feel like i'm missing something really obvious.

  • How to pass a Dictionary variable to another procedure

    - by salvationishere
    I am developing a C# VS2008/SQL Server website application. I've never used the Dictionary class before, but I am trying to replace my Hashtable with a Dictionary variable. Here is a portion of my aspx.cs code: ... Dictionary<string, string> openWith = new Dictionary<string, string>(); for (int col = 0; col < headers.Length; col++) { @temp = (col + 1); @tempS = @temp.ToString(); @tempT = "@col" + @temp.ToString(); ... openWith.Add(@tempT, headers[col]); } ... for (int r = 0; r < myInputFile.Rows.Count; r++) { resultLabel.Text = ADONET_methods.AppendDataCT(myInputFile, openWith); } But this is giving me a compiler error on this last line: Argument '2': cannot convert from 'System.Collections.Generic.Dictionary' to 'string' How do I pass the entire openWith variable to AppendDataCT? AppendDataCT is the method that calls my SQL stored proc. I want to pass in the whole row where each row has a unique set of values that I want to add to my database table. For example, if each row requires values for cells A, B, and C, then I want to pass these 3 values to AppendDataCT, where all of these values are strings. How do I do this with Dictionary?

  • int.Parse of "8" fails. int.Parse always requires CultureInfo.InvariantCulture?

    - by Henrik Carlsson
    We develop an established software which works fine on all known computers except one. The problem is to parse strings that begin with "8". It seems like "8" in the beginning of a string is a reserved character. Parsing: int.Parse("8") -> Exception message: Input string was not in a correct format. int.Parse("80") -> 0 int.Parse("88") -> 8 int.Parse("8100") -> 100 CurrentCulture: sv-SE CurrentUICulture: en-US The problem is solved using int.Parse("8", CultureInfo.InvariantCulture). However, it would be nice to know the source of the problem. Question: Why do we get this behaviour of "8" if we don't specify invariant culture? Additional information: I did send a small program to my client achieve the result above: private int ParseInt(string s) { int parsedInt = -1000; try { parsedInt = int.Parse(s); textBoxMessage.Text = "Success: " + parsedInt; } catch (Exception ex) { textBoxMessage.Text = string.Format("Error parsing string: '{0}'", s) + Environment.NewLine + "Exception message: " + ex.Message; } textBoxMessage.Text += Environment.NewLine + Environment.NewLine + "CurrentCulture: " + Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentCulture.Name + "\r\n" + "CurrentUICulture: " + Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentUICulture.Name + "\r\n"; return parsedInt; }

  • SQL indexing on varchar

    - by alex
    I have a table whose columns are varchar(50) and a float - I need to (very quickly) look get the float associated with a given string. Even with indexing, this is rather slow. I know, however, that each string is associated with an integer, which I know at the time of lookup, so that each string maps to a unique integer, but each integer does not map to a unique string. One might think of it as a tree structure. Is there anything to be gained by adding this integer to the table, indexing on it, and using a query like SELECT floatval FROM mytable WHERE phrase=givenstring AND assoc=givenint? This is Postgres, and if you couldn't tell, I have very little experience with databases.

  • Subset sum problem

    - by MadBoy
    I'm having a problem with counting which is continuation of this question. I am not really a math person so it's really hard for me to figure out this subset sum problem which was suggested as resolution. I'm having 4 ArrayList in which I hold data: alId, alTransaction, alNumber, alPrice Type | Transaction | Number | Price 8 | Buy | 95.00000000 | 305.00000000 8 | Buy | 126.00000000 | 305.00000000 8 | Buy | 93.00000000 | 306.00000000 8 | Transfer out | 221.00000000 | 305.00000000 8 | Transfer in | 221.00000000 | 305.00000000 8 | Sell | 93.00000000 | 360.00000000 8 | Sell | 95.00000000 | 360.00000000 8 | Sell | 126.00000000 | 360.00000000 8 | Buy | 276.00000000 | 380.00000000 In the end I'm trying to get what's left for customer and what's left I put into 3 array lists: alNew (corresponds to alNumber), alNewPoIle (corresponds to alPrice), and alNewCo (corrseponds to alID) ArrayList alNew = new ArrayList(); ArrayList alNewPoIle = new ArrayList(); ArrayList alNewCo = new ArrayList(); for (int i = 0; i < alTransaction.Count; i++) { string tempAkcjeCzynnosc = (string) alTransaction[i]; string tempAkcjeInId = (string) alID[i]; decimal varAkcjeCena = (decimal) alPrice[i]; decimal varAkcjeIlosc = (decimal) alNumber[i]; int index; switch (tempAkcjeCzynnosc) { case "Transfer out": case "Sell": index = alNew.IndexOf(varAkcjeIlosc); if (index != -1) { alNew.RemoveAt(index); alNewPoIle.RemoveAt(index); alNewCo.RemoveAt(index); } else { ArrayList alTemp = new ArrayList(); decimal varAkcjeSuma = 0; for (int j = 0; j < alNew.Count; j ++) { string akcjeInId = (string) alNewCo[j]; decimal akcjeCena = (decimal) alNewPoIle[j]; decimal akcjeIlosc = (decimal) alNew[j]; if (tempAkcjeInId == akcjeInId && akcjeCena == varAkcjeCena) { alTemp.Add(j); varAkcjeSuma = varAkcjeSuma + akcjeIlosc; } } if (varAkcjeSuma == varAkcjeIlosc) { for (int j = alTemp.Count -1 ; j >=0 ; j --) { int tempIndex = (int) alTemp[j]; alNew.RemoveAt(tempIndex); alNewPoIle.RemoveAt(tempIndex); alNewCo.RemoveAt(tempIndex); } } } break; case "Transfer In": case "Buy": alNew.Add(varAkcjeIlosc); alNewPoIle.Add(varAkcjeCena); alNewCo.Add(tempAkcjeInId); break; } } Basically I'm adding and removing things from Array depending on Transaction Type, Transaction ID and Numbers. I'm adding numbers to ArrayList like 156, 340 (when it is TransferIn or Buy) etc and then i remove them doing it like 156, 340 (when it's TransferOut, Sell). My solution works for that without a problem. The problem I have is that for some old data employees were entering sum's like 1500 instead of 500+400+100+500. How would I change it so that when there's Sell/TransferOut or Buy/Transfer In and there's no match inside ArrayList it should try to add multiple items from thatArrayList and find elements that combine into aggregate. Inside my code I tried to resolve that problem with simple summing everything when there's no match (index == 1) if (index != -1) { alNew.RemoveAt(index); alNewPoIle.RemoveAt(index); alNewCo.RemoveAt(index); } else { ArrayList alTemp = new ArrayList(); decimal varAkcjeSuma = 0; for (int j = 0; j < alNew.Count; j ++) { string akcjeInId = (string) alNewCo[j]; decimal akcjeCena = (decimal) alNewPoIle[j]; decimal akcjeIlosc = (decimal) alNew[j]; if (tempAkcjeInId == akcjeInId && akcjeCena == varAkcjeCena) { alTemp.Add(j); varAkcjeSuma = varAkcjeSuma + akcjeIlosc; } } if (varAkcjeSuma == varAkcjeIlosc) { for (int j = alTemp.Count -1 ; j >=0 ; j --) { int tempIndex = (int) alTemp[j]; alNew.RemoveAt(tempIndex); alNewPoIle.RemoveAt(tempIndex); alNewCo.RemoveAt(tempIndex); } } But it only works if certain conditions are met, and fails for the rest.

  • Override Linq-to-Sql Datetime.ToString() Default Convert Values

    - by snmcdonald
    Is it possible to override the default CONVERT style? I would like the default CONVERT function to always return ISO8601 style 126. Steps To Reproduce: DROP TABLE DATES; CREATE TABLE DATES ( ID INT IDENTITY(1,1) PRIMARY KEY, MYDATE DATETIME DEFAULT(GETUTCDATE()) ); INSERT INTO DATES DEFAULT VALUES; INSERT INTO DATES DEFAULT VALUES; INSERT INTO DATES DEFAULT VALUES; INSERT INTO DATES DEFAULT VALUES; SELECT CONVERT(NVARCHAR,MYDATE) AS CONVERTED, CONVERT(NVARCHAR(4000),MYDATE,126) AS ISO, MYDATE FROM DATES WHERE MYDATE LIKE'Feb%' Output: CONVERTED ISO MYDATE --------------------------- ---------------------------- ----------------------- Feb 8 2011 12:17AM 2011-02-08T00:17:03.040 2011-02-08 00:17:03.040 Feb 8 2011 12:17AM 2011-02-08T00:17:03.040 2011-02-08 00:17:03.040 Feb 8 2011 12:17AM 2011-02-08T00:17:03.040 2011-02-08 00:17:03.040 Feb 8 2011 12:17AM 2011-02-08T00:17:03.040 2011-02-08 00:17:03.040 Linq-to-Sql calls CONVERT(NVARCHAR,@p) when I cast ToString(). However, I am displaying all my data in the ISO8601 format. I would like to override the database default if possible to CONVERT(NVARCHAR,@p,126). I am using Dynamic Linq-to-Sql as demoed by ScottGu to process my data. PropertyInfo piField = typeof(T).GetProperty(rule.field); if (piField != null) { Type typeField = piField.PropertyType; if (typeField.IsGenericType && typeField.GetGenericTypeDefinition().Equals(typeof(Nullable<>))) { filter = filter .Select(x => x) .Where(string.Format("{0} != null", rule.field)) .Where(string.Format("{0}.Value.ToString().Contains(\"{1}\")", rule.field, rule.data)); } else { filter = filter .Select(x => x) .Where(string.Format("{0} != null", rule.field)) .Where(string.Format("{0}.ToString().Contains(\"{1}\")", rule.field, rule.data)); } } I was hoping my property would convert the expression from CONVERT(NVARCHAR,@p) to CONVERT(NVARCHAR,@p,126), however I get a NotSupportedException: ... has no supported translation to SQL. public string IsoDate { get { if (SUBMIT_DATE.HasValue) { return SUBMIT_DATE.Value.ToString("o"); } else { return string.Empty; } } }

  • replacing toString using Groovy metaprogramming

    - by Don
    In the following Groovy snippet, I attempt to replace both the hashCode and toString methods String.metaClass.toString = {-> "override" } String.metaClass.hashCode = {-> 22 } But when I test it out, only the replacement of hashCode works String s = "foo" println s.hashCode() // prints 22 println s.toString() // prints "foo" Is toString somehow a special case (possibly for security reasons)?

  • Best practice for storage and retrieval of error messages.

    - by ferrari fan
    What is a best practice for storing user messages in a configuration file and then retrieving them for certain events throughout an application? I was thinking of having 1 single configuration file with entries such as REQUIRED_FIELD = {0} is a required field INVALID_FORMAT = The format for {0} is {1} etc. and then calling them from a class that would be something like this public class UIMessages { public static final String REQUIRED_FIELD = "REQUIRED_FIELD"; public static final String INVALID_FORMAT = "INVALID_FORMAT"; static { // load configuration file into a "Properties" object } public static String getMessage(String messageKey) { // return properties.getProperty(messageKey); } } Is this the right way to approach this problem or is there some de-facto standard already in place?

  • Passing array values in an HTTP request in .NET

    - by Zarjay
    What's the standard way of passing and processing an array in an HTTP request in .NET? I have a solution, but I don't know if it's the best approach. Here's my solution: <form action="myhandler.ashx" method="post"> <input type="checkbox" name="user" value="Aaron" /> <input type="checkbox" name="user" value="Bobby" /> <input type="checkbox" name="user" value="Jimmy" /> <input type="checkbox" name="user" value="Kelly" /> <input type="checkbox" name="user" value="Simon" /> <input type="checkbox" name="user" value="TJ" /> <input type="submit" value="Submit" /> </form> The ASHX handler receives the "user" parameter as a comma-delimited string. You can get the values easily by splitting the string: public void ProcessRequest(HttpContext context) { string[] users = context.Request.Form["user"].Split(','); } So, I already have an answer to my problem: assign multiple values to the same parameter name, assume the ASHX handler receives it as a comma-delimited string, and split the string. My question is whether or not this is how it's typically done in .NET. What's the standard practice for this? Is there a simpler way to grab the multiple values than assuming that the value is comma-delimited and calling Split() on it? Is this how arrays are typically passed in .NET, or is XML used instead? Does anyone have any insight on whether or not this is the best approach?

  • ASP.NET MVC: Route to URL

    - by JamesBrownIsDead
    What's the easiest way to get the URL (relative or absolute) to a Route in MVC? I saw this code here on SO but it seems a little verbose and doesn't enumerate the RouteTable. Example: List<string> urlList = new List<string>(); urlList.Add(GetUrl(new { controller = "Help", action = "Edit" })); urlList.Add(GetUrl(new { controller = "Help", action = "Create" })); urlList.Add(GetUrl(new { controller = "About", action = "Company" })); urlList.Add(GetUrl(new { controller = "About", action = "Management" })); With: protected string GetUrl(object routeValues) { RouteValueDictionary values = new RouteValueDictionary(routeValues); RequestContext context = new RequestContext(HttpContext, RouteData); string url = RouteTable.Routes.GetVirtualPath(context, values).VirtualPath; return new Uri(Request.Url, url).AbsoluteUri; } What's a better way to examine the RouteTable and get a URL for a given controller and action?

  • For Loop help In a Hash Cracker Homework.

    - by aaron burns
    On the homework I am working on we are making a hash cracker. I am implementing it so as to have my cracker. java call worker.java. Worker.java implements Runnable. Worker is to take the start and end of a list of char, the hash it is to crack, and the max length of the password that made the hash. I know I want to do a loop in run() BUT I cannot think of how I would do it so it would go to the given max pasword length. I have posted the code I have so far. Any directions or areas I should look into.... I thought there was a way to do this with a certain way to write the loop but I don't know or can't find the correct syntax. Oh.. also. • How to identify the type of socket data?

    - by Nitesh Panchal
    Hello, May be i am not able to express my doubt properly in this question but still i will try. Basically i created a simple socket based chat program and everything works fine. But i think i have made many patches in it from the design point of view. I have used ObjectInputStream and ObjectOutputStreams in my program. The question i want to ask is how do i identify the different type of data that i send across the network? say if it is simple String type object i directly add to List<String> chatMessages. Now if want to ban certain users i created an another class :- public class User{ private String name; private String id; //getters and setters } This User class means no importance to me till now but i only created it to properly identify the action. Thus if i receive an instanceOf User i can be sure that some user is to be banned. That way i dont have to hardcode strings. I mean first i thought of sending something like "Banned User :" + userName and then i used to check if string startsWith "Banned User :" then i take some action :p. I've created a User class but it means no importance to me in my program. I want to know whether directly sending strings is good way or create a class for every action that is good. If i am not clear please let me know. If i have hundreds of action do i have to create hundreds of classes so i can check via instanceOf? Say now if i plan to create a BUZZ like facility that is available in yahoo messenger. Should i again create an another class named BUZZ? so it can be identified easily?

  • Why no ArgumentEmptyException in .NET ?

    - by Andrei Rinea
    I am beginning to think I am doing something wrong. I mean they did place System.String.IsNullOrWhitespace finally but no ArgumentEmptyException class. public FilterItem(string name, IEnumerable<string> extensions) { if (string.IsNullOrWhiteSpace(name)) { throw new ArgumentNullException("name"); } if (extensions == null) { throw new ArgumentNullException("extensions"); } if (extensions.Count() == 0) { throw new ArgumentOutOfRangeException("extensions"); } this.Name = name; this.Extensions = extensions; } throwing an ArgumentOutOfRangeException feels unnatural. Also an instance of ArgumentException is too general in my opinion. It's easy to me to create a new exception class call it this way and have it over with. What bugs me is that it's not in the BCL/FCL and I am beginning to think there's a good reason not to have it. Should there be one?

  • JPA native query join returns object but dereference throws class cast exception

    - by masato-san
    I'm using JPQL Native query to join table and query result is stored in List<Object[]>. public String getJoinJpqlNativeQuery() { String final SQL_JOIN = "SELECT v1.bitbit, v1.numnum, v1.someTime, t1.username, t1.anotherNum FROM MasatosanTest t1 JOIN MasatoView v1 ON v1.username = t1.username;" System.out.println("get join jpql native query is being called ============================"); EntityManager em = null; List<Object[]> out = null; try { em = EmProvider.getDefaultManager(); Query query = em.createNativeQuery(SQL_JOIN); out = query.getResultList(); System.out.println("return object ==========>" + out); System.out.println(out.get(0)); String one = out.get(0).toString(); //LINE 77 where ClassCastException System.out.println(one); } catch(Exception e) { } finally { if(em != null) { em.close; } } } The problem is System.out.println("return object ==========>" + out); outputs: return object ==========> [[true, 0, 2010-12-21 15:32:53.0, masatosan, 0.020], [false, 0, 2010-12-21 15:32:53.0, koga, 0.213]] System.out.println(out.get(0)) outputs: [true, 0, 2010-12-21 15:32:53.0, masatosan, 0.020] So I assumed that I can assign return value of out.get(0) which should be String: String one = out.get(0).toString(); But I get weird ClassCastException. java.lang.ClassCastException: java.util.Vector cannot be cast to [Ljava.lang.Object; at local.test.jaxrs.MasatosanTestResource.getJoinJpqlNativeQuery (MasatosanTestResource.java:77) So what's really going on? Even Object[] foo = out.get(0); would throw an ClassCastException :(

  • issue getting dynamic Config parameter in Grails taglib

    - by Mick Knutson
    I have a dynamic config parameter I want to get like: String srcProperty = "${attrs ['src']}.audio" + ((attrs['locale'])? "_${attrs['locale']}" : '') assert srcProperty == "prompt.welcomeMessageOverrideGreeting.audio" where my config has: prompt{ welcomeMessageOverrideGreeting { audio = "/en/someFileName.wav" txt = "Text alternative for /en/someFileName.wav" audio_es = "/es/promptFileName.wav" txt_es = "Texto alternativo para /es/someFileName.wav" } } While this works fine: String audio = "${config.prompt.welcomeMessageOverrideGreeting.audio}" and: assert "${config.prompt.welcomeMessageOverrideGreeting.audio}" == "/en/someFileName.wav" I can not get this to work: String audio = config.getProperty("prompt.welcomeMessageOverrideGreeting.audio")

  • XDocument.Parse fails due to resolution error, how to disable resolution

    - by Frank Krueger
    I am trying to parse the contents of http://feeds.feedburner.com/riabiz using XDocument.Parse(string) (because it gets cached in a DB.) However, it keeps failing with the below stack trace when it tries to resolve some URIs in that XML. I don't care about validation or any of that XML nonsense, I just want the structure parsed. How can I use XDocument without this URI resolution?
