• Transfer websites and domains to new server

- by Albert
We have currently around 40 websites and 80+ domains/sub-domains in a shared 1&1 hosting package, and we just acquired a managed dedicated server with 1&1 as well. Now it's time to start transferring everything over to the new server. Transferring just the websites and databases wouldn't be a problem, it would take time but it's pretty straight forward. The problem comes when transferring the domains, let me explain why. Many of the websites we have are accessible via sub-domains of a parent domain. Ideally, we would like to transfer the sites one by one, in order to check for each one that everything works fine in the new server. However, since we also need to transfer the domain so it's managed in the new server, once we do that means that all the websites using that domain need to be already in the new server before transferring that domain, thus not allowing the "one by one" philosophy. Another issue is the downtime when transferring the domain, from the moment it stops working in the hosting package and becomes active in the new server. I believe there's nothing we can do here. So my question is if there's any way we can do the "one by one" transferring of the websites (and their corresponding sub-domains) in the circumstances described above. One idea I had would be: 1. Let's say we have website A, which is accessible using subdomain.mydomain.com (and there are many other websites accessible via other sub-domains of mydomain.com) 2. Transfer the files of website A to the new server 3. Point a test domain in the new server to the website A's folder (the new server comes with a "test" domain) 4. Test if website A works with that "test" domain 5. In the old hosting, somehow point the real sub-domain (subdomain.mydomain.com) to the new location of website A, in a way that user always see the same URL as always 6. Repeat 2-5 for every website belonging to the same domain 7. Once all are working in the new server, do the actual transfer of the domain to the new server, and then re-create all the sub-domains and point them to their corresponding website That way, users wouldn't notice that there's been a change (except for a small down time of the websites when doing the domain transfer). The part I'm not sure about is point 5 of the above. Is there any way to do that? I mean do it in a way that users see the original domain all the time in their browser, even for internal pages (so not only for the "home page", which would be sub-domain.mydomain.com, but also for example for the contact page, which would be sub-domain.mydomain.com/contact.php). Is there any way to do this? Or are we SOL and we're going to have to transfer all at the same time?

• 2 Servers 1 Database - Can I use Redis?

- by Aust
Ok I have a couple of questions here. First let me give you some background information. I'm starting a project where I have a node.js server running my application and my website running on another normal server. My application will allow multiple users simultaneous connections and updates to the database so Redis seemed like a good fit there because of its speed and atomic functions. For someone to access my application they have to login with an account. To get an account, they have to signup for one through my website. So my website needs a database, but its not important to have a database like Redis here because it doesn't need it. Which leads me to my first question: 1. Can Redis even be used without node.js? It seems like it would be convenient if both of my servers were using the same database to keep track of information. In some cases, they will keep track of the same information (as in user information) and in other cases, they will be keeping track of separate information. So even if the website wouldn't be taking full advantage of all that Redis has to offer it seems like it would be more convenient. So assuming Redis could be used in this situation that leads to my next question: 2. Since Redis is linked with JavaScript, how would I handle the security from my website users? What would be stopping my website users from opening firebug or chrome's inspector and making changes to the database? Maybe if I designed my site with the layout like this: apply.php-update.php-home.php. Where after they submitted their form it would redirect them to the update page where the JavaScript would run and then redirect them after the database updated to the home page. I don't really know I'm just taking shots in the dark at this point. :) Maybe a better alternative would be to have my node.js application access its own Redis database and also have access to another MySQL database that my website also has access to. Or maybe there is another database that would be better suited for this situation other than Redis. Anyways any direction on this matter would be greatly appreciated. :)

• DNS with name.com and Amazon S3

- by aledalgrande
I have a website on a bucket in Amazon S3, and recently started to get emails from Google "Googlebot can't access your site". When I go to Webmaster Tools and I try to fetch in fact it doesn't work. Also people in locations different from mine sometimes reported they could not access the website. • DDD/NHibernate Use of Aggregate root and impact on web design - ex. Editing children of aggregate ro

- by pbrophy
Hopefully, this fictitious example will illustrate my problem: Suppose you are writing a system which tracks complaints for a software product, as well as many other attributes about the product. In this case the SoftwareProduct is our aggregate root and Complaints are entities that only can exist as a child of the product. In other words, if the software product is removed from the system, so shall the complaints. In the system, there is a dashboard like web page which displays many different aspects of a single SoftwareProduct. One section in the dashboard, displays a list of Complaints in a grid like fashion, showing only some very high level information for each complaint. When an admin type user chooses one of these complaints, they are directed to an edit screen which allows them to edit the detail of a single Complaint. The question is: what is the best way for the edit screen to retrieve the single Complaint, so that it can be displayed for editing purposes? Keep in mind we have already established the SoftwareProduct as an aggregate root, therefore direct access to a Complaint should not be allowed. Also, the system is using NHibernate, so eager loading is an option, but my understanding is that even if a single Complaint is eager loaded via the SoftwareProduct, as soon as the Complaints collection is accessed the rest of the collection is loaded. So, how do you get the single Complaint through the SoftwareProduct without incurring the overhead of loading the entire Complaints collection?

• Alternative to google map api, so that I can use it on a HTTPS/SSL encrypted website.

- by Zeeshan Rang
I did find a solution for this on Google map api page, and I made the following changes as mentioned in it. 1.Use Google Maps API for Flash version 1.9a or later. 2.Add the following to your Flash application before the map is instantiated: Security.allowInsecureDomain("maps.googleapis.com"); Ref:http://code.google.com/apis/maps/faq.html#flash_ssl My code looks like this, after the changes: <mx:TitleWindow verticalAlign="middle" horizontalAlign="center" xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml" xmlns:maps="com.google.maps.*" width="1000" height="600" layout="absolute" backgroundAlpha="0" borderAlpha="0" borderThickness="0" showCloseButton="true" close="PopUpManager.removePopUp(this);"> <mx:VBox width="70%" height="100%" > <maps:Map id="map" key="ABQIAAAA0L1JEoR6rWjh-BBQnLMtMBSVuZ5VlaqlIqiYPFMK_I5M2UTmHhSq_BJxLHiYcTDW9RxSF6HewNY7uA" mapevent_mapready="onMapReady(event)" width="100%" height="100%" /> </mx:VBox> <mx:Script> //import flashx.textLayout.formats.Direction; import mx.effects.AddItemAction; //import flashx.textLayout.factory.TruncationOptions; import mx.controls.Alert; import mx.managers.PopUpManager; import mx.rpc.events.ResultEvent; import com.adobe.serialization.json.JSON; import flash.events.Event; import com.google.maps.*; import com.google.maps.overlays.*; import com.google.maps.services.*; import com.google.maps.controls.ZoomControl; import com.google.maps.controls.PositionControl; import com.google.maps.controls.MapTypeControl; import com.google.maps.services.ClientGeocoderOptions; import com.google.maps.LatLng; import com.google.maps.Map; import com.google.maps.MapEvent; import com.google.maps.MapMouseEvent; import com.google.maps.MapType; import com.google.maps.services.ClientGeocoder; import com.google.maps.services.GeocodingEvent; import com.google.maps.overlays.Marker; import com.google.maps.overlays.MarkerOptions; import com.google.maps.InfoWindowOptions; private function onMapReady(event:MapEvent):void { Security.allowInsecureDomain("maps.googleapis.com"); map.setCenter(new LatLng(41.651505,-72.094455), 13, MapType.NORMAL_MAP_TYPE); map.addControl(new ZoomControl()); map.addControl(new PositionControl()); map.addControl(new MapTypeControl()); map.enableScrollWheelZoom(); map.enableContinuousZoom(); } </mx:Script> </mx:TitleWindow> But i still get the following error using this: The requested URL /mapsapi/publicapi?file=flashapi&url=https%3A%2F%2Fvirtual.c7beta.com%2Findex_cloud.swf&key=ABQIAAAA0L1JEoR6rWjh-BBQnLMtMBTW_Qkp6J0z76Etz3qzo8Hg3HdUQhSnD6lqp53NB0UrBmg5Xm2DlazWqA&v=1.18&flc=xt was not found on this server. I have following in my Web.Config. <log4net> <appender name="EventLogAppender" type="log4net.Appender.EventLogAppender"> <layout type="log4net.Layout.PatternLayout"> <conversionPattern value="%date [%thread] %-5level %logger [%property{NDC}] - %message%newline" /> </layout> </appender> <root> <priority value="ERROR"/> <appender-ref ref="EventLogAppender"/> </root> <logger name="NHibernate"> <level value="ERROR" /> <appender-ref ref="EventLogAppender" /> </logger> </log4net> I already have Test-Log Event Log created and AspNet user has permission on the Event Log registry entry. I also have log4Net configured in Global.asax Application_Start. log4net.Config.XmlConfigurator.Configure();

• Porting a select loop application to Android with NDK. Design question.

- by plaisthos
Hi, I have an network application which uses a select loop like this: bool shutdown=false; while (!shutdown) { [do something] select(...,timeout); } THe main loop cannot work like this in an Android application anymore since the application needs to receive Intents, need to handle GUI, etc. I think I have basically three possibilities: Move the main loop to the java part of the application. Let the loop run in its own thread and somehow communicate from/to java. Screw Android <= 2.3 and use a native activity and use AInputQueue/ALooper instead of select. The first possibility is not easy since java has no select which works on fds. Simply using the select and return after each loop to java is not an elegant possibility either since that requires setting the timeout to something like 20ms to have a good response time in the java part of the program. The second probability sound nicer but I have do some communication between java and the c++/c part of the program. Things that cold work: Using a socket, kind of ugly. using native calls in the "java gui thread" and callback from native in the "c thread". Both threads need to have thread safe implementations but this is managable. I have not explored the third possibility but I think that it is not the way to go. I think I can hack something together which will work but I asking what is the best path to chose.

• What initial modelling/design activities on Agile Projects do you do??

- by dalton
When developing an application using agile techniques, what if any initial modelling/architecture activities do you do, and how do you capture that knowledge?? I'm not after a bullet list about XP, Scrum, Crystal, DSDM..etc as I'm familiar with the methodologies. But what do you do above and beyond the guidance given by these. I find I work best by thinking the system through first, but also like the benefits of timeboxing, story cards, pairing, tdd. The closest thing I've seen so far is Scott Ambler's Initial Architecture Modelling, but was wondering what alternatives are used out there?

• Having a hard time implementing jquery serialScroll to a website. Need help!

- by Martin Defatte
Here's the page I am attempting to implement it on. www.yosoh.com/2010/advertising/beyond/ I have a custom script with figures out the width of all the images, adds it up, then sets the width of that page... I'd like to be able to set the arrows at the top to scroll to the next div (div.portfolioImage). I've followed Ariel Fischer's demo and documentation as best I can... but something keeps escaping me. I've finally gotten some "movement" on page load.. but to tell you the truth, I can't figure out if it's my html structure, css styles, or implementation of serialScroll causing the issue. here's the code for the buttons:

←

→

Here's the script, as it is right now: $('#mainContent').css('overflow', 'hidden'); $('#mainContent').serialScroll({ items:'.portfolioItem', prev:'a#prev', next:'a#next', axis: 'x', duration:1200, force:true, stop:true, lock:false, easing:'easeOutQuart', jump: true });

• How can I get WWW-Mechanize to login to Wells Fargo's website?

- by J Miller
I am trying to use Perl's WWW::Mechanize to login to my bank and pull transaction information. After logging in through a browser to my bank (Wells Fargo), it briefly displays a temporary web page saying something along the lines of "please wait while we verify your identity". After a few seconds it proceeds to the bank's webpage where I can get my bank data. The only difference is that the URL contains several more "GET" parameters appended to the URL of the temporary page, which only had a sessionID parameter. I was able to successfully get WWW::Mechanize to login from the login page, but it gets stuck on the temporary page. There is a <meta http-equiv="Refresh"... tag in the header, so I tried $mech->follow_meta_redirect but it didn't get me past that temporary page either. Any help to get past this would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Here is the barebones code that gets me stuck at the temporary page: #!/usr/bin/perl -w use strict; use WWW::Mechanize; my $mech = WWW::Mechanize->new(); $mech->agent_alias( 'Linux Mozilla' ); $mech->get( "https://www.wellsfargo.com" ); $mech->submit_form( form_number => 2, fields => { userid => "$userid", password => "$password" }, button => "btnSignon" );

• Oracle data warehouse design - fact table acting as a dimension?

- by Elizabeth
THANKS: Both answers here are very helpful, but I could only pick one. I really appreciate the advice! our datawarehouse will be used more for workflow reports than traditional analytical reports. Our users care about "current picture" far more than history. (though history matters, too.) We are a government entity that does not have costs or related calculations. Mostly just counts of people within given locations and with related history. We are using Oracle, and I have found distinct advantage in using the star join whenever possible and would like to rearchitect everything to as closely resemble the star schema as is reasonable for our business uses. Speed in this DW is vital, and a number of tests have already proven the star schema approach to me. Our "person" table is key - it contains over 4 million records and will be the most frequently used source in queries. It can be seen at the center of a star with multiple dimensions (like age, gender, affiliation, location, etc.). It is a very LONG table, particularly when I join it to the address and contact information. However, it is more like a dimension table when we start looking at history. For example, there are two different history tables that have a person key pointing to the person table. One has over 20 million records and the other has almost 50 million and grows daily. Is this table a fact table or a dimension table? Can one work as both? If so, is that going to be a big performance problem? Is it common to query more off of a dimension than a fact? What happens if a DIFFERENT fact table that uses the person table as a dimension is actually only 60,000 records (much smaller.). I think my problem is that our data and use of it does not fit with the commonly use examples of star schemas. CLARIFICATION: Some good thoughts have been added below, but perhaps I left too much out to really explain well. Here's some more info: We handle a voter database. We don't have any measures except voter counts by various groups: voter counts by party, by age, by location; voter counts by ballot type and election, by ballot status and election, etc. We do have a "voting history" log as well as an activity audit log (change of address, party, etc.). We have information on which voters are election workers and all that related information. I figure I'll get to the peripheral stuff later. For now I'm focusing on our two major "business processes": voter registration(which IS a voter.) and election turnout. In the first, voter is a fact. In the second, voter is a dimension, along with party, election, and type of ballot. (and in case anyone is worried - no we don't know HOW people vote. Just that they do. LOL ) I hope that clarifies things a bit.

• Is it possible to use Windows Authentication to logon to Axapta 4 (or 5) in a Website/webservice

- by rdkleine
Using this code I can not create a connection using IIS 7 with Windows Authentication. try { Axapta axapta = new Axapta(); axapta.Logon("", "", "", ""); //Or this> axapta.Logon("COMPANY", "NL-nl", "OBJECTSERVER", ""); System.Diagnostics.Debug.WriteLine("yep"); axapta.Logoff(); } catch (Exception ex) { System.Diagnostics.Debug.WriteLine(ex.ToString()); } When changing App Pool Identity to a user with rights in Axapta then I can create a connection. So it seems like the App Pool Identity is used. Is it even possible to get this do without using the LogonAs method? Is there some other way short of asking the user for they're credentials? • TRibbon's large button's image is not centered...any ideas? easy to demonstrate at design-time.

- by X-Ray
i'm using delphi 2009 (updates 1, 2, 3, 4). i'm seeing something quite peculiar. the image on the button is not centered in the button when i have a large button with a large glyph! rather than being centered, the left part of the glyph starts at the center of the button. a clue is that when i: go into the action editor and select the action use the ImageIndex combobox in the object inspector, the list is empty (normally i'd see the available images in the combobox). it seems as though there's an image width property i've failed to set or an imagelist not correctly configured. i've expected the glyph on a large button should be 32x32. try the following: paste these components into an empty form add a 32x32 image to the image list set the Action1 imageindex to 0 you'll immediately see what i mean! can anyone tell me why it looks that way? i find it interesting that the ribbon demo app doesn't show this problem. i even tried the same image. thank you! object ActionManager1: TActionManager ActionBars = < item Items = < item Action = Action1 Caption = '&Action1' ImageIndex = 0 CommandProperties.ButtonSize = bsLarge end> ActionBar = RibbonGroup1 end> LargeDisabledImages = img3232 LargeImages = img3232 Left = 376 Top = 184 StyleName = 'Ribbon - Luna' object Action1: TAction Caption = 'Action1' ImageIndex = 0 end end object Ribbon1: TRibbon Left = 0 Top = 0 Width = 693 Height = 147 ActionManager = ActionManager1 Caption = 'Ribbon1' Tabs = < item Caption = 'RibbonPage1' Page = RibbonPage1 end> ExplicitLeft = 232 ExplicitTop = 80 ExplicitWidth = 0 DesignSize = ( 693 147) StyleName = 'Ribbon - Luna' object RibbonPage1: TRibbonPage Left = 0 Top = 54 Width = 692 Height = 93 Caption = 'RibbonPage1' Index = 0 object RibbonGroup1: TRibbonGroup Left = 4 Top = 3 Width = 54 Height = 86 ActionManager = ActionManager1 Caption = 'RibbonGroup1' GroupIndex = 0 end end end object img3232: TImageList Height = 32 Width = 32 Left = 376 Top = 256 end

• How to log in to a website using installed twill?

- by brilliant
Hello, everybody!!!! I have just successfully installed TWILL on my computer with the help of one very supportive member of "StackOverflow" (you can check it out HERE) and have tried to run one of the simple examples on the twill documentation page (you can see that page HERE). Here is that example: Let's say my username on www.slash.org is lynxye and my password is mammal. When I try to enter that example code into my Python prompt, I can only type and enter the first line of the code because when I click on "Enter" to start a new line, I get some error messages right away: The same happens when I try to enter this code into my terminal: I think I miss out on some basics here. Perhaps, I need to create a file that would contain that code and then run that file somehow, but I really don't know where I need to create that file and with what extensdion. Can anyone, please, help me with this?

• Using zc.buildout, how do I install a tarball from a website?

- by Brad Wright
I'm trying to get zc.buildout to install Gunicorn from source. Using the following configuration: [gunicorn] recipe = collective.recipe.distutils url = http://github.com/benoitc/gunicorn/tarball/master results in the following error: SystemError: ('Failed', '"/usr/bin/python" setup.py -q install --install- purelib="/mnt/hgfs/Projects/intranation/parts/site-packages" --install-platlib="/mnt/hgfs/Projects/intranation/parts/site-packages"') Providing a --install-dir or --prefix doesn't help. Is there a recipe for zc.buildout that downloads a tarball and installs it via easy_install or similar?
