• A way to avoid deriving from the provider classes in mvc authentication

  Looking for the best practice for authentication in MVC I unfortunately didn't find the clear answer to my question. Thinking of the problem I tried to imagine some priciples that could be useful in my design. Well, I would like to use a base AccountController class I want to place all the tables such as "Users", Roles, Rights etc into my own database. But I wouldn't like to implement the standard aspnetdb design (which can be easy got by using aspnet_regsql) So the main question is can I do this without deriving abstract classes like MembershipProvider, RoleProvider etc? What I would prefer not to do is implement all the abstract methods from these classes. The second question is still about the best practice for authentication e.g. for the small projects, for the large ones?

  Hi, I have a FDCC compliant workstation with FIPS 140-1 (Level 1) enabled. Now, i cannot run/debug any VS 2005/2008 applications on my machine I get the following error message on my browser Parser Error Message: This implementation is not part of the Windows Platform FIPS validated cryptographic algorithms. the Error points to line no 1 of default.aspx.cs file using system; The only way to successfully debug/run my application is to set the following registry key to 0 HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\fipsalgorithmpolicy I understand that there are some Cryptographic algorithms that are not FIPS compliant on XP SP2 but i am not using cryptography at all. For that matter, the solution contains just default.aspx page with default code in .cs file, and even that fails to run. So my question is why the webpage fails to load, and why the error points to line #1 "using System;" statement? My next question is how can i develop on FIPS compliant locked down maching where i do not have edit rights on registry Thanks kudlur

The usual directory-skeleton has been set up for me (branches, tags and trunk). Now I'm about to create a directory for me and my colleagues to put our files in. I'm quite sure the right place to put it is in trunk. Now here and there in tutorials, I see terms like "modules" and "projects" such as in Checking Out a Project - svn checkout svn checkout http://host_name/svn_dir/repository_name/project/trunk proj Is proj in the above line some glorified directory in trunk? Should I do something else than a checkout on trunk, mkdir and then commit when creating a directory for me and my colleagues? Whats the difference between a project, a directory in trunk and a module?

• Testing install procedure of a program requiring administrative privileges

  I'm trying to write automated test, to ensure that the installer for my program works okay. The program can be installed for all users (requires admin privs), or for current user (does not require admin privs). The program can also autoupdate itself, which in some cases requires admin privileges, and in some cases doesn't. I'm looking for a way where I can have an automated test click "Yes, Allow" on the UAC dialogs, so I can write tests for all different scenarios, on many different operating systems, so that I can be confident when I make changes to the installer that I didn't break anything. Obviously, the installer process itself cannot do this. However, I control the complete machine, and could easily start some sort of daemon process with administrative rights, that the testprogram could make a socket connection to, to request it to "please click ok on the UAC now".

• Sharepoint Foundation 2010 installation problems

  I'm having problems installing development machine for Sharepoint (Foundation) 2010. This is what I did so far on the same machine: Installed a clean Windows 7 x64 with 4GB of RAM without being part of any domain. Just a simple standalone machine. Enabled IIS related features as described here except IIS6 related ones (two of them) Installed SQL Server 2008 R2 Development Edition (DB Engine and Writer being enabled but not SQL Agent) Installed Visual Studio 2010 Premium Started installing Sharepoint Foundation 2010 with first extracting files, changing config to enable Windows 7 installation and then installed it as Server Farm (then Complete) to avoid installing SQL Express. Created a separate SPF_CONFIG local user with Logon on as a service right. Opened SPF Management Shell and run New-SPConfigurationDatabase so I am able to use a non-domain username (SPF_CONFIG that I created in the previous step) But all I get is this: The outcome after this error is: Database Sharepoint2010Config is created User SPF_CONFIG is added to SQL Server and attached to this newly created database as dbowner and checking SQL server security logins this user has following rights: dbcreator securityadmin public

• How to allow multiple users to manage application running on server?

  I'm not sure if the title makes sense. Hard question to ask. I have an application running on a server under my network account, and it's scheduled to run daily. I can remote in with my user credentials and check on the application. What if I want more than one person to be able to remote in and check it? I can create a new account on the server, but it wouldn't have network rights and the application needs access to network folders. What would be the best approach? Thanks! :-) P.S. Feel free to edit the tags. I can't figure out what to pick.

• Simple github fetch/merge not pulling in remote branch?

  I have a project I forked on github to my repository. I made changes on the "experiment" branch of the project the committed the project to my fork. If you go to my branch on Github you can see the that the experiment branch was correctly committed. I would like to merge the experiment branch with the original repo (which I have rights to). I issued the following commands: git clone [email protected]:originalrepo/theproject.git git checkout -b experiment origin/experiment cd theproject git remote add experiment [email protected]:chumofchance/theproject.git git fetch experiment git merge experiment "Already up to date" However, when I view the project in explorer, it appears that nothing has changed. Am I screwing something up in regards to fetching the experiment branch (vs the master branch)?

• Writing temporary data from R

  I want to write some temporary data to disk in an R package, and I want to be sure that it can run on every OS without assuming the user has admin rights. Is there an existing R function that can provide a path to a temporary directory on all major OS's? Or a way to reference a user's home directory? Otherwise, I was thinking of trying this: Sys.getenv("temp") I presume that I can't expect people to have write access to their R locations, otherwise I could reference a path within the package directory: .find.package("package.name").

• Adding pdb files to VSS

  Every time I try to compile my web app, I am prompted if i want to add pdb extensioned files to VSS. I thought pdb files do not belong in VSS see a previous post. Is there any way to prevent them from being added. I cannot even logically delete them from VSS because a previous version has been logically deleted and if I were to delete the current version, the previous version would have to be purged, for which I need vss admin rights that I do not have. I just can't get a handle on how to avoid getting a million files added to VSS that prevent otehr develoeprs from compiling their solutions because they have unchecked out read only copies. Is the only solution to check them in but flip the readonly flag off locally? This is not a good option in my mind.

• Activator.CreateInstance fails in Windows Service

  I have an issue with a Windows Service which throws a NullReference exception whenever I try to use var myType = Activator.CreateInstance(typeof(MyType)) There is no problem whenever I run the exact same code in a console window - and after debugging the obvious "which user is running this code" I doubt that it is a mere fact of changing the user running the service as I've tried to run the service using the computer's Administrator account as well as LocalSystem. I'm suspecting a Windows Update fiddling with default user rights but that's a bit of a desperate guess I feel. Remember: The type and assembly exist and works fine - otherwise I wouldn't be able to run the code in a console window. It is only when running in the context of a Windows Service I get an error. The question is: Can I in any way impersonate i.e. LocalSystem in a unittest by creating a GenericPrincipal (how would that GenericPrincipal look)?

• Why does my program crash when given negative values?

  Alright, I am very confused, so I hope you friends can help me out. I'm working on a project using Cocos2D, the most recent version (.99 RC 1). I make some player objects and some buttons to change the object's life. But the weird thing is, the code crashes when I try to change their life by -5. Or any negative value for that matter, besides -1.   Hi, using INNO Setup I currently have the following entry under the [ICONS] section: Name: "{group}\My App\My App - Command Prompt"; Filename: "cmd.exe"; WorkingDir: "{app}" This shortcut launches a command prompt straight into my application's folder. Unfortunately it isn't launched as elevated which means the commands the user runs from there doesn't have appropriate rights. Using INNO Setup, how can I create a shortcut to CMD.exe (in a specific folder) that requires elevation? Doing this for other applications can be done via a manifest file. My question is, how do I use it using INNO, and if I can't, what are my alternatives?

  Hello, I feel silly asking this but I've searched for 'include problems' and have only come up with basic stuff. I'm working with an API that includes/imports in their header files (ARGH! HATE ANGER DESTRUCTION). One of these Obj-C files #import "OpenGL/CGLMacros.h" which #define's things like glMatrixMode(...); In my code I need the glMatrixMode(...); from #include "OpenGL/gl.h" but it won't access it! I can't edit the headers from the (poorly) coded API to put the includes in their definition files. What can I do? When running the FAR tool locally on my ubuntu laptop, everything works fine. When running remotely (terminal as Root) on my Ubuntu and Debian servers, it gives the following error: Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display: I've tried to reach Edvin about this, but no response so far. Maybe it has something to do with installation or user rights on the server? Any clue?

NOTE: This assumes that the cl compiler is in your path, and that the INCLUDE and LIB environment variables are set to include the directories containing the MSC include files and libraries. If not, you will need to use full path names to cl and link, and define INCLUDE and LIB in make.win32. You may also execute VCVARS32.BAT in the BIN directory of your VC installation to set these up prior to running nmake. so what i did was to: tape configure.bat it creates the rights files I set the news paths and lib, include for the cl.exe and link.exe but now the warning and error messages are about the clui.dll. cl -nologo -I. -Iadf -FoWIN32\cgns_error.obj -c cgns_error.c Cannot load language resource clui.dll what can i do now?   Aim: I want to rebase commit G from "bravo", onto commit F from "alpha". From this: G bravo / D--E--F alpha / A--B--C mainline To this: G bravo / D--E--F alpha / A--B--C mainline "alpha" has been successfully rebased onto the latest mainline work. I cherry-pick "alpha" onto C. And when I cherry-pick "bravo", it comes up with all the merge conflicts. Once I fix those, if I do commit --amend The commit message just has all the information for alpha, whereas I'd expect the information for bravo. So I tried again after hard resetting to C, doing pull (as oppose to cherry-pick) for alpha and then pull bravo. Fixed the conflicts and just ran: commit The commit message just lists it as a merge and has merge information. Though the commit succeeds, I can't push this to gerrit as it says I don't have the rights to push merges. When I've read about rebase, it's always just to mainline, but I want to rebase private branches. Where am I going wrong?

  We come from a subversion background where we have a QA manager who gives commit rights to the central repository once he has verified that all QC activities have been done. Me and a couple of colleagues are starting to use mercurial, and we want to have a shared repository that would contain our QC-ed changes. Each of the developers hg clones the repository and pushes his changes back to the shared repository. I've read the HG init tutorial and skimmed through the red bean book, but could not find how to control who is allowed to push changes to the shared repository. How would our existing model of QA-manager controlled commits translate to a mercurial 'central' repository?

  i have created one user named tuser with create database rights in SQL server 2005. and given the 'db_owner' database role of master and msdb database to tuser . From this user login when i run the script for create database then it will create new database. But tuser don't have access that newly created database generated from script. Any one have any idea?, i want to write the script so tuser have access that new created database after creation and can have add user permission of newly created database.
