Is there a tool like phpMyAdmin which can be configured to access only a single MySQL database in a server?
I cannot use phpMyAdmin because it allows access to all databases. A view that can allow a user to create/delete/insert/update tables should do. I remember using a software similar to this but dont remember what it was. It would also be great if its in PHP.
Does anyone have any idea why annotate does not work anymore in rails 3.1 ?
When trying to run it with :
$ rvmsudo bundle exec annotate --position before
and given I've got the following in my gemfile:
gem "annotate", '2.4.0'
I get the following error:
/usr/local/rvm/gems/ruby-1.9.2-p180@rails31/gems/activerecord-3.1.0/lib/active_record
/railties/databases.rake:3:in `<top (required)>': undefined method `namespace' for
main:Object (NoMethodError)
I'm using RVM with a gemset dedicated to rails 3.1 with Ruby 1.9.2
which database should I use, if my application is going to be in multiple languages (including Chinese, Japanese etc)? In other words, is MySQL better or worse than Postgres to handle unicode etc? (these are the only two databases my hosting company has)
Also, which language is better for handling unicode? PHP or Ruby/Rails?
In my rails app I am running rake db:create:all in order to create the databases and I am prompted that the collations do not match.
Is there a way to change the default MySQL collation? If not what is the best way around this?
Thanks
So I installed a trial of SQL Server 2008 enterprise edition while waiting for MSDN licenses to come through - I now want to uninstall the trial and replace it with a developer edition installation.
However, I'd like to first know how long I have left on the trial. Is there a way to do this programmatically with SQL? I looked at create_date in sys.databases, but these give dates that are in 2003 (which is, I guess, when master and model were originally created).
I am very new to programming, so please bear with me, and apologies in advance if at first I dont make sense...!
I am doing an undergrad programming project, and need to make some databases within a Java program. I am using eclipse (galilo) to write my program. I have downloaded a connector/J, but havent the foggiest how i should use it!
Anyone out there able to give me a step by step approach?!
Many thanks!
Can someone point me to a good tutorial explaining the Entity Framework using an XML file instead of a database?
I have seen some good tutorials with SQL databases, but I can't make the leap to an XML file.
Thanks!
Hello
I haven't used any database system enough but i believe i know logic of databases and i have learnt little sql so i shouldn't start to learn ORM before learn them well?
Where can i start to learn .NET Entity Framework and which version of framework i have to start 3.5 or 4.0 because i heard that 4.0 has strong support for Entity Framework.I am looking sources web pages,e-books or other else.
I have 3 databases. 1 links to 2, 2 links to 3. I'd like to query tables in 3, from 1. I tried third_db_tab@3@2 and it did not work. Wondering if this is possible and if so, what the syntax is.
Hi
I currently loook after 20 odd databases in SQL server 2005 and need a tool for monitoring the performance and keep me informed if a database is running slow. Is there anything I can run within Managment studio of any other good third party tool (Pref free) that can do the job.
Thanks
I have a working PHP server. Now I want to use databases (MySQL or something similar). Is it possible to create a database from PHP?
I would like to emphasize that in my case I do not have any user-name and password to which I can use to connect to MySQL server. I also do not have a control-panel where I could create a database or a table in an existing database.
We need some simple ad-hoc reporting solution for our ASP.NET web-site.
Just an ability to build a query with user friendly interface, then show the result of this query in some table and maybe export it to Excel or print.
The solution must be quite easy for end users (our site visitors) who know nothing about databases, SQL and other tech stuff.
I'm new to Scala and Slick and was surprised by something in the Slick documentation:
The following primitive types are supported out of the box for
JDBC-based databases in JdbcProfile
...
Unit
...
I don't get why this list contains Unit. From my understanding, Unit is similar to Java's void, something I neither can save to nor receive from my database. What is the intention behind it?
edit: you can find it here.
Hi! I have started to try out noSQL databases now and are currently testing out couchDB. Seems like a good solution, but I really get some headache when I follow available examples on how to create views (queries) to select documents from a database and sort them.
Everything I can find is regarding Javascript and it would be great to take part of some examples for PHP since that is the language we will use.
So, how do I create views using PHP for couchDB?
I'm considering optimal open source solution for storing xml documents with further querying on them effectively. Amount of data will be small. As far as I understand native xml databases might form a proper solution for my case. They obviously store xml documents in highly efficient way. It would be great to learn your experience.
Any suggestions on proper solution? Have you got any experience employing xml storage engines in your apps?
Does someone know of a Sqlite manager that I can put on my site, so that I can access it over the web and create/edit SQlite databases. I guess something like phpMyAdmin for MySQL.
I used the Redgate packager (ran MSI) to reset all the data in my database (i.e. I deleted everything, and let it build the new database). Unfortunately, I discovered that it didn't retain my diagrams, which has a nice arrangement and several annotations.
Is there any way to copy/migrate/script the diagram from one database to another (the databases have identical structures).
Thanks,
Neal Walters
I am working on a Drupal site with a few friends. Obviously we can Version control the code... but what do we do to keep each others databases in check?
I have managed to get all the theming into files (contemplate etc), but ideally my views settings, menu settings would be in line also... (Not worried about Content either way as we're just building the framework)
Any suggestions?
I seem to be missing something about LINQ. To me, it looks like it's taking some of the elements of SQL that I like the least and moving them into the C# language and using them for other things.
I mean, I could see the benefit of using SQL-like statements on things other than databases. But if I wanted to write SQL, well, why not just write SQL and keep it out of C#? What am I missing here?
Usually I just dump the database and reimport it with a new name. This is not an option for very big databases. Apparently RENAME {DATABASE | SCHEMA} db_name TO new_db_name; does bad things, exist only in a handful of versions, and is a bad idea overall.
Oh, one more thing - this needs to work with InnoDB, which stores things very differently than MyISAM.
I want to have a login form on a charity website I am building (it's for a friend, and I'm learning on the go), and I want to know what languages/software should I learn to build databases for user logins and info? Note: it HAS to be secure and relatively simple to learn for someone with moderate programming experience.
Update: I understand that CMSs offer good tools for logins etc. but I want to do this all by myself.
which database should I use, if my application is going to be in multiple languages (including Chinese, Japanese etc)? In other words, is MySQL better or worse than Postgres to handle unicode etc? (these are the only two databases my hosting company has)
Also, which language is better for handling unicode? PHP or Ruby/Rails?
We are in the process of switching from the C# Guid.NewGuid() random-ish guid generator to the sequential guid algorithm suggested in this post. While this seems to work well for MS SQL Server, I am unsure about the implications for Oracle databases, in which we store guids in a raw(16) field. Does anyone have any insight as to whether this algorithm would be good for creating sequential guids for Oracle as well as for MS SQL Server, or if a different variant should be used.
Thanks!
I'm writing java application that is using both SQLite and MySQL using JDBC.
Are there any differences in SQL for those databases? Can I use same queries for both SQLite and MySQL, or is there any db specific stuff, that doesn't work on the other one?
As far I've worked only with MySQL, so I don't really know much about SQLite.
