  • High-Quality Text-To-Speech engine for personal use

    - by phihag
    I'm looking for a high-quality TTS engine that I can afford (let's say less than 1000$). So far, I've tried flite and festival. However, while the results are certainly understandable, technical texts are hard to follow. Commercial TTS solutions from Loquendo and Readspeaker sound way better. However, these companies don't seem to be willing to sell their product to mere mortals - I can't find a price on either's homepage. So, what are good TTS solutions for personal use?

  • Public api to manage documents in Office Web apps

    - by Gregoire
    Is there any API or webservices that allows us to manage online Office web apps documents (on sky drive)? What I would like to do is to use this API (or webservice) in order to create some reports in excel format without the need to use the HTML table trick, neither to have the Excel Com components installed on my server.

  • stripping a query string with php (preg_replace)

    - by pg
    http://www.chuckecheese.com/rotator.php?cheese=4&id=1 I want to take out the id, leaving the cheese to stand alone. I tried: $qs = preg_replace("[^&id=*]" ,'',$_SERVER[QUERY_STRING]); But that said I was using an improper modifier. I want to remove "$id=" and whatever number comes after it. Are regexp really as hard as they seem for me?

  • Can I use Code Igniter with Concrete5?

    - by SkippyFire
    I am building a site that will (obvisouly) have a front end public portion that I want to drive with Concrete5, but then it will also have a members section that I would like to build with Code Igniter. Does anyone have any idea how I could do that? I guess I could just throw the Code Igniter code into a sub directory, but would I run into any issues with that?

  • Time/resource allocation on a Stylish vs. Functional user interface

    - by jasonk
    When developing applications how much focus/time do you place on an application’s style vs. functionality. Battleship gray apps drive me insane. On the other hand maximizing a business application’s "style" can tax time and financial resources. Applications need to be appealing to resell or meet basic customer expectations, but defining a healthy medium can be difficult. What would you say are reasonable "standards" for allocating develop time/resources should be dedicated to stylizing a business application?

  • thinking about moving to Trac

    - by Martin
    We're starting development and are at a point where we need a bug tracking site. Our code is in SVN and we're thinking of using Bugzilla, but setup is tricky. I'm considering going for Trac instead. From what I understand, Trac would need to be on the same machine as SVN. I'm really having a hard time parsing through the Trac documentation. What kind of things should I look for when I'll be migrating?

  • Auto Generate Objects in DBIx::Class ORM in Perl

    - by Sam
    Hello, I started learning DBIx::class and I reach the point where you have to create the Objects that represents tables. Should this classes be created manually ( hard coding all the fields and relationships.....) or there is a way to generate them automatically using the database schema. I read something about loaders, but i did not know where they are really used. Please advice. Thanks

  • Does anyone know if WordPress has builtin PHP validation functions?

    - by racl101
    Hi everyone, I am trying to build a form in WordPress and taking advantage of all its built-in functions but I am hard pressed to find any functions that do form validation. I figure those kinds of functions have to exist in WordPress but I couldn't find any because its documentation is sparse and spread out in some respects. Would anyone have any useful links to documentation and tutorials by any chance?

  • Hosting a VST/DX instrument in C#/C++?

    - by James D
    I'm trying to get a read on the effort level involved in building a barebones virtual instrument host in C++ or C# but I haven't been able to get any hard information. Does anybody know any good starter apps, tutorials, helper libraries for this sort of thing? If it matters, the goal would be to a) accept incoming MIDI events and b) dispatch them to the virtual instrument. In C++ or C#, if possible. Thanks!

  • ASP.NET user database without web.config connection strings

    - by vikp
    Hi, I'm wondering whether it's possible to use built in ASP.NET application services (aspnet_user, aspnet_role etc table) without specifying a connection string in a web.config. At the moment I store connection strings externally, but I keep finding hard-coded connection strings all over the web.config xml, various providers etc. It's driving me crazy. Thank you

  • What stereotypes about developers are there?

    - by lkessler
    I was filling out a Delphi Developer Survey and two questions were asking about developer stereotypes: Which stereotype about developers do you think is most true? Which stereotype about developers do you think is least true? That was a hard one for me to answer. I couldn't even think of very many developer stereotypes to choose from. What do you think are the most common ones?

  • Problem implementing sorting algorithm in C with an array of structs

    - by dilog
    Well here is my little problem, first my code: struct alumn { char name[100]; char lastname[100]; int par; int nota; }; typedef struct alumn alumn; int bubble(alumn **arr, int length) { int i,j; alumn *temp; for (i=0; i<=length-2; i++) { for (j=i+1; j<=length-1;j++) { if ((*arr)[i].nota > (*arr)[j].nota) { temp = arr[i]; arr[i] = arr[j]; arr[j] = temp; } } } } int main(int argc, char **argv) { alumn *alumns; ... here goes some other code ... bubble(&alumns,totalAlumns); return 0; } My problem is that this algorith is not sorting anything. I'm having a hard time doing the swap, i tried everything but nothing works :( . Any help??? struct alumn { char name[100]; char lastname[100]; int par; int nota; }; typedef struct alumn alumn; int bubble(alumn **arr, int length) { int i,j; alumn *temp; for (i=0; i<=length-2; i++) { for (j=i+1; j<=length-1;j++) { if ((*arr)[i].nota > (*arr)[j].nota) { temp = arr[i]; arr[i] = arr[j]; arr[j] = temp; } } } } int main(int argc, char **argv) { alumn *alumns; ... here goes some other code ... bubble(&alumns,totalAlumns); return 0; } My problem is that this algorith is not sorting anything.
