  • Would you hire a foreigner ? [closed]

    - by user229999
Hi! I'd like to dedicate this question (hope it's not a subjective) especially to people who own their companies. Would you (and why) hire a foreigner, which experience is documented in CV and portfolio, which can communicate in english (with grammar mistakes, but still)? I am writing in the name of all these guys looking for great opportunities abroad, living in countries which do not give you any opportunities at all. Is it real, to be hired like a programmer (PHP, Ruby, Python, C#) in country like UK, USA, Nederland, Sweeden or even Germany, if you're a foreigner? Please response in two categories: a) foreigner with engineer degree, zend certificate, few open source projects b) foreigner without any degree, with nice portfolio, and few big projects created Also, does First Certificate in English aka FCE matter for you ?

  • How should I capture clickstream data?

    - by editor
I'd like to start using clickstream analysis to improve a dynamic site's user experience. I'd like to rule out two options: parameterizing URLs (index.php?src=http://www.example.com) and immediate database logging. The former makes pretty ugly URLs and isn't great for SEO and the latter might slow down page render when there are lots of concurrent users. Assuming these aren't viable options, I think I'm left with doing an asynchronous POST to a server side script that runs a database query and returns a 204 (no data) response. Is this the best option for capturing clickstream data?

  • innerHTML yielding undefined, but correct data is visible

    - by Mike Dyer
var Model, node; document.getElementById('sedans').innerHTML=''; var thismodelabbr, prevmodelabbr; for(var j=0; j<xmlDoc.getElementsByTagName('data').length; j++){ node = xmlDoc.getElementsByTagName('data')[j]; thismodelabbr=node.getAttribute('model'); if(prevmodelabbr!=thismodelabbr){ Model+='<a href="">'+ node.getAttribute('model')+'</a>'; } prevmodelabbr=thismodelabbr; document.getElementById('sedans').innerHTML=Model; } The above javascript snippet is working correctly and as needed, but I'm getting an "Undefined" response before the entry is displayed within its respective page. I'm assuming it has to do with the .innerHTML call. Any insight would be deeply appreciated.

  • XML Processing on iPhone: What is the best option?

    - by gonso
Hello Im building a new version of an iPhone application and Im wondering if I should review how my app communicates with the server. My iPhone client sends and receives XML over HTTP requests. To send the information I use ASIHTTPRequest framework. I "manually" build the XML request by appending strings. To parse the response Im using a NSXMLParser. My question is if I have better options to A) Create an XML string from a memory object. B) Create a memory object from the XML string. Is there anything like JAXB to marshal XML into object? Thanks Gonso

  • predict location of single-line text from a UITextView

    - by William Jockusch
Is this possible? Specifically, I have a UITextView, and the text is short enough that it will fit on a single line. I want to predict where it will appear, so that (for example) if I wanted to, I could set up a UILabel that rendered the text in exactly the same location. Once I get that figured out, what I really want to do is pick contentInset and/or contentOffset so that the text of the UITextView and the left-justified UILabel will render in the same location. But I figure the above will let me do that. EDIT: In response to a comment, the fundamental problem I am trying to get around is that UITextField does not let you set the location of the cursor. It appears a lot of people have tried to get around this without success. I need to be able to move the cursor -- inserting/deleting text there is not enough. Control cursor position in UITextField Insert string at cursor position of UITextField Moving the cursor to the beginning of UITextField iOS -- dealing with the inability to set the cursor position in a UITextField

  • TTPhotoViewController: How to show small images

    - by Sali
Hi, I posted this question on Three20 google group but did not get any response. So I thought I try this forum. I am using TTPhotoViewController to display photos. I am following sample code given in Three20 sample project: TTCatalog/PhotoTest1Controller.m. In my case some of the images are less than (320,480). The problem which I am facing is that when my image is 200*300 then TTPhotoViewController re-sizes it to full screen on load which distorts the image. I was wondering if there is a way to tell TTPhotoViewController to display image in its actual size and not to resize it. The only thing which I have changed is viewDidLoad function in PhotoTest1Controller.m. (void)viewDidLoad { self.photoSource = [[[MockPhotoSource alloc] initWithType:MockPhotoSourceNormal title:@"Photo 1" photos:[NSArray arrayWithObjects:[[[MockPhoto alloc] initWithURL:@"http://test/test.jpg" smallURL:@"http://test/test.jpg" size:CGSizeMake(200, 300) caption:@"This is a caption."] autorelease], nil] photos2:nil] autorelease]; } I will appreciate your help. Thanks

  • Dynamic binding in C++

    - by chmike
I'm implementing a CORBA like server. Each class has remotely callable methods and a dispatch method with two possible input, a string identifying the method or an integer which would be the index of the method in a table. A mapping of the string to the corresponding integer would be implemented by a map. The caller would send the string on the first call and get back the integer with the response so that it simply has to send the integer on subsequent calls. It is just a small optimization. The integer may be assigned dynamically on demand by the server object. The server class may be derived from another class with overridden virtual methods. What could be a simple and general way to define the method binding and the dispatch method ?

  • Is the last digit of a phone number random?

    - by sehugg
I have a telephony app which has a prompt which requires user choice. I made the app select one of 10 different phone prompts based on the last digit of the caller's phone number. Then I measure whether the user responds to the prompt (accept) or decides to skip to the next step (reject). I thought this would work well enough as a random selection, but I think I may be wrong. What I'm finding is that the exact same prompt has a dramatically different response rate (25% vs 35%) for two different last digits. Now I'm curious why this is. Does anyone know how phone numbers are assigned and why the last digit would be significant?

  • Java, How to Instance HttpCookie from a String, any convenient ways?

    - by user435657
Hi all, I have got a cookie string from HTTP response header like the following line: name=value; path=/; domain=.g.cn; expire=... I can parse the above line to key-value pairs, and, also it's easy to set the name and value to HttpCookie instance as this pair comes the first. But how to set the other pairs since I don't know which set-method corresponds to the name of the next name-value pair. Traverse all possible keys a cookie may contian and call the matched set-method, like below snippet? if (key.equalsIgnoreCase("path")) cookie.setPath(value); else if (key.equalsIgnoreCase("domain")) cookie.setDomain(value); That's foolish, any convenient ways? Thanks in advance.

  • Wrap MemoryStream in a using block REST WCF

    - by Mark
I'm learning REST to implement some Services with WCF. I implemented an example with a MemoryStream. Because MemoryStream is Disposable I wrapped it in a using. When I do this I sometimes can see the xml response in the browser (IE8) and sometimes it will just show me the following Errormessage: The download of the specified resource has failed. Error processing resource 'http://localhost:8889/SimpleGetService/'. Why does this occur? When I don't wrap it in a using, I never seem to get the error.

  • ASP.NET Website or Web service?

    - by fireBand
Hi, I am trying to implement a service to download a image file. The code does nothing but upload a file to the response with each client request. There are no SOAP messages involved but I am planning to implement it as ASP.NET web service. It can also be implement as ASP.NET website but since it has no view (forms, html etc) I planned to implement a web-service. Is this a better approach? Does ASP.NET Website offer better performance that a Web-service? Which one would be better is this situation? Thanks in advance.

  • allow editing of config files by WIndows Server 2008 admins running non-elevated?

    - by Justin Grant
My company produces a cross-platform server application which loads its configuration from user-editable configuration files. On Windows, config files are locked down at Setup time to allow reading by all users but restrict editing to Administrators only. Unfortunately, on Windows Server 2008, even local administrators no longer have admin privileges (because of UAC) unless they're running an elevated app. My question is: if a Windows Server 2008 admin wants to edit an admins-only config file, how does he normally do it? Is he forced to use a text editor which is smart enough to auto-elevate when elevation is needed, like Windows Explorer does in response to access denied errors? Or is there something that we can do in our app (e.g. in ACLs we lay down at setup time) which signal apps (or explorer) that elevation is needed before editing the file or which otherwise make our app friendlier to admins running on modern Windows OS's?

  • Reload AJAX data every X minutes/seconds, jQuery

    - by NightMICU
Hi everyone, I programmed a CMS that has a log of who has recently logged into the system. Presently, this data is fed into a jQuery UI tab via Ajax. I would like to put this information into a sidebar on the main page and load it via AJAX every 30 seconds (or some set period of time). How would I go about doing this? Does the PHP response need to be JSON coded? I am fairly new to AJAX and JSON data. Here is the PHP I am currently using to pull details from the users table- <?php $loginLog = $db->query("SELECT name_f, name_l, DATE_FORMAT(lastLogin, '%a, %b %D, %Y %h:%i %p') AS lastLogin FROM user_control ORDER BY lastLogin ASC LIMIT 10"); while ($recentLogin = $loginLog->fetch()) { echo $recentLogin['name_f'] . " " . $recentLogin['name_l'] . " - " . $recentLogin['lastLogin']; } ?> Thanks!

  • Fusion Table Layer Caching issue

    - by user1854791
I have created a series of fusion table layers and apply filtering to one of the layers in response to checkbox click events. The base layer of the map contains a gradient applied over county boundaries. When the base layer is unchecked, the filtered layer loses it's styling. I have added unique timestamps to all queries to avoid caching, however I get the feeling that these image tiles are still be cached for this situation. Is there any way to force the google fusion tables api to invalidate a cached image? Test site here: http://map.inquestmarketing.com/new.html Unchecking the Other - Consumer Prospects checkbox reproduces the issue. This is a pure client app, all of the source is in the single page.

  • What would prevent ASP.NET from Output Caching?

    - by amarsuperstar
I have an ASP.NET application, and am trying to output cache a certain page, however on every request, the debugger is still hitting the OnLoad method and I get a 200 response back. I have placed the output cache directive on a page like so: <%@ OutputCache Duration="60" VaryByParam="None" %> And ensured I have the OutputCache module <add name="OutputCache" type="System.Web.Caching.OutputCacheModule"/> And have also bypassed URL rewriting just in case. I have tried this using Cassini and IIS 5.1 (XP), however the page is not caching at all. Are there any other factors which I have not looked at which could affect this feature? Thanks

  • Does Google appengine cache external requests?

    - by Andy Hume
I have a very simple application running on appengine that requests a web page every five minutes and parses for a specific piece of data. Everything works fine except that the response I get back from the external request (using urllib2) doesn't reflect the latest changes to the page. Sometimes it takes a few minutes to get the latest, sometimes over an hour. Is there a transparent layer of caching that appengine puts in place? Or is there something else I am missing here? I've looked at the caching headers of the requested page and there is no Expires or LastModified's sent. Update: Sometimes, it will get the new version of the page for a number of requests and then randomly later get an old out of date version.

  • is unicode( codecs.BOM_UTF8, "utf8" ) necessary in Python 2.7/3?

    - by Brian M. Hunt
In a code review I came across the following code that contains the following: # Python bug that renders the unicode identifier (0xEF 0xBB 0xBF) # as a character. # If untreated, it can prevent the page from validating or rendering # properly. bom = unicode( codecs.BOM_UTF8, "utf8" ) r = r.replace(bom, '') This is in a function that passes a string to Response object (Django or Flask). Is this still a bug that needs this fix in Python 2.7 or 3? Something tells me it isn't, but I thought I'd ask because I don't know this problem very well. Thanks for reading.

  • ASP.NET Web API crash MSVCR90.dll

    - by user858931
I have a web api app developed on VS2010. The application calls an external program to run and it runs just fine if I execute in VS2010. • How do I determine the video file size on youtube in Java?

    - by user1753343
I am using the youtube-API to gather different information about videos. The only missing attribute until now is size. The API itself doesn't provide any functionality. I googled, but didn't found any solution. Indirect way My next idea was to get the path to the video-file itself and make a get-request. In the response-headers I could check for the file size. So I searched for "video / download / youtube / java". Some time ago youtube used get_video_info but this doesn't work today. I also found an application called JavaYoutubeDownloader but it seems VERY complicated for just getting the file size and it doesn't work either (just prints finish, without downloading anything). So is there a way to get the filesize of a video on youtube by using Java? If not, what would be a practical solution for this problem (a list of video_ids exists)?

  • Jquery get array details

    - by Matt
I'm having trouble getting a response back from a Jquery ajax call... (It's a script to authenticate a user, and needs to return their name and user ID. My understanding was that I could encode it as JSON and get the data in the format below. It is returning an error of "undefined" for the alert(). The javascript $.ajax({ type: "POST", url: "myURL.php", data: {username: username, password: password}, success: function(results) { //THIS IS WHERE THE PROBLEM IS alert('Hi '+results.name); //Should be "Hi Basil Fawlty" } }); The PHP (myURL.php) //This comes from a SQL call that returns the following name json_encode(array( 'id'=>1, 'name'=>'Basil Fawlty' )); Any help or ideas on where I am going wrong would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

  • WM6x IMAPIAdviseSink::OnNotify threading issues

    - by violet313
specifically WM6x, winCE5x Now my current understanding from trawling the msdn etal is that the IMAPIAdviseSink::OnNotify callback can be made from any old thread; from (ce)mapi or perhaps even from a third-party service provider. Under WM6x, i cannot seem to coax an in-thread response by invoking HrThisThreadAdviseSink, since while this function is declared in mapiutil.h, a definition appears not to exist (in cemapi.lib or wherever??) ~But i notice that all the OnNotify callbacks i receive derive from windows messages that i am receiving on my thread (=looks to me like an in-thread implementation in any case under cemapi)... So, can anyone confirm that this is infact always the case -or am i just getting lucky right now? ah, i should add that my advise source is IMAPISession::Advise erm i should also say that i might have cross-posted this on the msdn forum -but they're mostly numptys over there,,
