Using Outlook 2003, why do incoming email messages with single quote email addresses fail to copy to folders?
I use this method to back-up email before deleting it.
I see the option in Visio 2003 to only trust macros stored in trusted locations, but I can't find any way to set up what these trusted locations are.
My problem is I have a template file that's not signed in the VBA project but the VBA project is locked (so I can't just sign it myself).
So, there are only two ways I can stop the warning:
lower my security settings so anything with macros will run (not a good idea)
Tell Visio that the template is in a trusted location (if this is even possible)
I am looking for a solution to send SMS/MMS message to mobile device from desktop or browser in LAN environment. As such, it is most probably using TCP/IP protocol to transmit request/response.
The server may attach to a GSM device with SIM card attached. An server application would then start accept the request from any LAN client and convey the SMS/MMS to one or more recipients. The server may log all requests for further traffic analysis in later stage.
Is there any solution that able to perform what I describe here. Please advice.
I need to limit the bandwidth on my Windows 7 x64 machine.
In the past (on XP) I've been able to use NetLimiter for similar tasks. However for some reason I can't get it to work anymore. For lower limits the bandwidth tests are able to exceed the limit by 10-50%; higher limits seem to be ignored completely and the bandwidth tests report download speeds of over 10 times the speed I set. I'm using speedtest.net and some similar service from my ISP for these tests.
Anyway, I don't necessarily need a program as complex as NetLimiter since I only need to throttle my machine's bandwidth, not a specific program's.
In case you are wondering why in the world I'd want to cripple my Internet speed, there is a funny story behind this. Long story short, my modem gets random disconnects. Tech support comes in, says my Internet speed is abnormally high and I must be using some tools to somehow make it go faster than it's supposed to and this messes up my modem. I check the connection with another computer and it seems that my PC is the only one in my network that gets abnormal speeds. I reinstall my OS, speed looks normal at first, after I install the batch of 50 or so updates, it goes back to abnormally high speeds and the disconnect problems are not solved.
Now I don't have a clue if the explanation the tech team gave me was just a strategy to lay the blame on someone else, but I was trying to give them the benefit of the doubt and see what happens if I really reduce my speed to their specification.
Any help appreciated.
Basically I would like to know, if it is possible to set up an NAS in my house to be accessed wirelessly, that can reach equivalent real-life data transfer speeds to USB 3.0 or an internal SATA hard drive.
I have been wanting to do this for some time ( a couple of years now). Basically, this is what I want to do:
Plug in a number of hard drives in an array, somewhere in my house, to be left
plugged in and never have to be monitored. Ideally several terabytes.
Whenever I am home, to have my computer and laptop configured to
automatically find the NAS, as easy as plugging in an external hard
drive - except completely wirelessly.
Data transfer needs to be as seamless and quick as having added
another internal hard drive in my laptop.
Moreover, data should be able to accessed without having to copy it
over - I should be able to wirelessly access the NAS and browse
files, and open files directly from the NAS. For example, say I
wanted to open a video - I should be able to play the video that is
located on the NAS, directly from the NAS, completely wirelessly. If
I wanted to open a .pdf file, I should be able to open it and read it
directly from the NAS, as if it were located on my physical internal
hard drive.
Cost is important as well.
Please tell me what equipment I need for this to be possible. I know you geniuses out there who can tell me if this is possible.
I am currently using IE7 with XP SP3.
When a webpage download with unknown file type loads, I get a prompt asking me what I want to do with the file. My options are FIND SAVE CANCEL.
How do I make it so that I don't get this popup prompt, but Internet explorer automatically downloads the file into a directory I choose without asking?
PS. I have already tried Tools Internet Options Security Internet Custom Level Downloads Disable/Enable/Enable, but this doesn't help.
Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I have to use IE. I'm using it in connection with other proprietary software based on IE and its settings. And yes I'm aware it's not a great browser. (This is not for strictly personal use in the browsing sense. )
I have a bunch of gzip files that I have to convert to bzip2 every now and then. Currently, I'm using a shell script that simply 'gunzip's each file and then 'bzip2's it. Though this works, it takes a lot of time to complete.
Is it possible to make this process more efficient? I'm ready to take a dive and look into gunzip and bzip2's source codes if necessary, but I just want to be sure of the payoff. Is there any hope of improving the efficiency of the process?
On Windows XP, I have a disconnected Wireless connection which shows up in the System Tray.
I have gone into Network Connections dialog box and elected not to show an icon when it is disconnected, yet it remains visible.
I have gone into the Task bar properties and elected to always hide this icon, but that doesn't remove it from the system tray.
How do I remove it?
Thanks
When I startup my machine, the Grub (Grub2 - Karmic) starts and asks if I want to run Windows or Ubuntu. But there are 6 different choices for Ubuntu and they are all the same. Plus, when I started up today I had one more - I don't know how it got added?

After encoding a DVD video to MP4 using Handbrake 0.9.4(2009112300) using the High Profile preset, my video will not open in QuickTime.
I receive the following error:
Error -2041: An invalid sample description was found in the movie (Movie.mp4)
Here is the preset used to encode the video:
<Preset>
<Category>Regular</Category>
<Name>High Profile</Name>
<Query>-e x264 -q 20.0 -a 1,1 -E faac,ac3 -B 160,160 -6 dpl2,auto -R 48,Auto -D 0.0,0.0 -f mp4 --detelecine --decomb --loose-anamorphic -m -x b-adapt=2:rc-lookahead=50</Query>
<PictureSettings>true</PictureSettings>
<Version>0.9.4</Version>
</Preset>
How can I adjust this preset or fix the files so that they will play in QuickTime?
One of my current projects involves reducing the number of old computers lying around. So far, the office systems have been downsized from 5 to 2. One system which had no data on it was dumped entirely, while three other identical boxes were consolidated into to one (I swap hard drives as needed and they just work(tm)). I want to make further cuts.
The physical systems in question all run windows xp sp3, and were old Pentium 4s with 256 MB of RAM. Currently, I have got a VirtualBox running on another system. My intention is to migrate all services to that. We can assume that disk space and RAM on the host is not an issue.
I'd rather not go with a client-server physical-to-virtual (P2V) method like what VirtualBox uses now. I have a few specific concerns as well - specifically whether I'd need to reactivate or sysprep for dissimilar hardware first.
An offline tool for imaging (Windows or Linux) would not be an issue since the drives could be mounted onto another system I have anyway or I could use a LiveCD.
What would be my options for P2V conversion, and what would I need to keep in mind when doing this?
My situation is the following: I have a Google Mail email-address and I have been using this address in Thunderbird fetching the emails with POP3 (the emails also remained on the server and where "archived"). In Thunderbird I organized my emails in folders.
Now I want to switch to IMAP (with the same email address), but I want to keep the folder structure I created in Thunderbird.
I could create a 2nd account in Thunderbird that uses IMAP, and then move my folders from the old account to the new one. But the problem is, that Google Mail probably does not recognize that it already has these moved emails in "All Mails". I will probably end up with two copies of every email.
Does someone has good idea how to deal with that problem?
Thank you!
Hi,
After googling for some Mac OS X terminal shortcuts, I wanted to find how can I go back characters on a line on the terminal or words or similar. I found ALT+B but it does not work.
Do you know some other shortctus, or how can I customize them or links to cheat sheets?
Thanks
This question is coming back often, and the suggested steps are very often the same. In an objective to concentrate useful information in one place, here is a community wiki about it. I expect our best minds to participate in it, so we can have a reference of knowledge, for something like this.
What to do if it seems that my computer is infected by a virus, or a malware on a Windows system?
What are the symptoms from an infection?
What are the steps to follow after noticing an infection?
How can I get rid of it?
As it is community wiki, feel free to edit this question to improve it as well.

I'd like to set up an environment where I can use VNC to remotely support my clients over the internet. No VPNs involved. I've used the UltraVNC repeater in the past, but the problem is that it requires a dedicated Windows server. What I'd like to do is as follows:
VNC Client (me) - NAT - Internet - NAT - VNC Server (the person I'm offering support to)
I'd basically like the same functionality that the UltraVNC repeater offers, but the only internet environment I have to host something on is a Linux shared server (standard hosting - PHP, Apache, etc.).
Requirements:
Multiple platform support for both Client and Server - specifically Mac and Windows
Allows for connection with multiple NATs involved (Client and Server side)
Will allow me to use my existing hosting environment for any repeater that might be involved
I believe the way this would work is that the Server (the person I'm offering support to) when online would connect to a listener on the internet. When they needed support I would connect my Client to the same listener, see them connected, and use the listener (man-in-the-middle) to piggyback my Client to connect to their Server.
I'm open to using any software (not limiting myself to VNC) but would prefer a FOSS solution (which is why I'm leaning towards VNC). Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I used pc decrapifier to uninstall lots of programs because revo uninstaller takes a lot of your time just to uninstall a single program. Can I remove the registry keys and folders left behind by pc decrapifier using revo uninstaller?
Or do you know of any application that function like decrapifier and revo?
I need to output some complex equations in Word 2010 (docx). To do so I write most of the equations in tex and use pandoc to translate them as Word formulas.
However I have a problem with the following tex equation:
\sum_{m=1}^\infty\sum_{n=1}^\infty
In Word the resulting two summation signs are not of the same size but the latter is smaler than the first one. Is there any workaround to solve this?
I would deeply appreciate any help.
Thank you
Andy
I can't login to Facebook because they think someone tried to hack my account. To verify it's really me they present me with photos that my friends have been tagged in and ask me to give them the correct names of who is tagged in the photos. Now because alot of my friends think it's funny to tag themselves in random photos of others, or tag themselves as objects in photos, I can't successfully get all 10 correct. I also have alot of friends of friends that have added me that I don't know closely enough to identify the back of their head in a distant blurry photo. Facebook only allows one attempt per hour to try this. How am I supposed to restore my account when they have such a stupid method to prove identity?
My Word 2007 spell-check seems to work fine, except that when I paste in text from somewhere else, it won't detect any misspellings in that pasted text...no matter what I try.
If it makes any difference, when I paste in text, the formatting is preserved (size color etc). I've tried doing a past-special and trying the different options there, but it's still bringing the formatting over.
Any ideas on what to try?

I'm using Windows x64 and I'm not able to make msysgit to work using pagent authentication.
Here are some details:
Putty is working without pagent without any problems.
I have only one key loaded in pagent
SSH auth using putty to [email protected] works (not shell allowed)
The problem is that:
plink -v -a -ssh [email protected] git version
FATAL ERROR: Network error: Connection timed out
