  • Android hosts file usage

    - by dominos
I have the following problem: I make a custom hosts file to test some features of my application and then push it to my android emulator. The thing is that these settings do not take effect immediately. I have to wait about 10 minutes before they become active. So my question is: how to make the new hosts file active instantly? I have many different settings to test and I can't wait 10 minutes every time.

  • What is an Eclipse Sprint STS "Config Set" good for?

    - by HDave
I have the Spring STS plugin activated within my Eclipse project. Doing this enabled many cool Spring features including specialized management of Spring bean files. However, I noticed that the project settings for Spring allows for the creation of "Config Sets" -- which look like groups of bean configuration files. I cannot find documentation for this feature anywhere...anyone know what it does?

  • [X]HTML custom tags: pros & cons

    - by o_O Tync
I'd like to use some semantic [X]HTML tags instead of <div>s: <article>, <product>, <footer> etc. Some of them are already presented in the upcoming HTML5, however, it's not fully supported. Which are the possible cons I might face when Rendering? Using CSS, JS? The one I remember is: IE6 can't clone tags it doesn't know.

  • Is there a web tool framework for building a video editing/manipulation widget other than custom Fla

    - by Brandon
I am looking to build a widget for a site which allows users to tag images from individual frames of a video file but would prefer not to have to build a custom Flash tool. Is there an existing free library or framework which simplifies things like this in a webapplication setting? Features would also involve basic video playback functionality as well as time-driven meta-data and the ability to extract images from individual video frames. Are there existing open-source web-based tools for video manipulation other than building your own custom Flash app?

  • What are the elements of a team development suite?

    - by mhempey
For small-to-large teams developing software together, what tools are used to form a comprehensive team development framework? Specifically, I'm looking for a comprehensive list of all the individual functions involved (e.g. source control, bug management, testing tools, project management), not specific product recommendations. I'm also not restricting the list to a particular methodology (e.g. Scrum).

  • Visual Studio support for coding in CIL/IL/MSIL?

    - by jdk
For the longest time I've been curious to code in Intermediate Language just as an academic endeavour and to gain a better understanding of what's "happening under the hood". Is there any sort of Visual Studio support for this in the form of: project templates, IntelliSense integration, and those kind of RAD features?

  • Recommended migration strategy for C++ project in Visual Studio 6

    - by jacobsee
For a large application written in C++ using Visual Studio 6, what is the best way to move into the modern era? I'd like to take an incremental approach where we slowly move portions of the code and write new features into C# for example and compile that into a library or dll that can be referenced from the legacy application. Is this possible and what is the best way to do it?

  • What to have in mind when building a AJAX-based webapp

    - by Industrial
Hi everyone, We're in the first steps of what will be a AJAX-based webapp where information and generated HTML will be sent backwards and forwards with the help of JSON/POST techniques. We're able to get the data out quickly without putting to much load on the database with the help of a cache-layer that features memcached as well as disc-based cache. Besides that - what's essential to have in mind when designing AJAX heavy webapps? Thanks a lot,

  • All non-prime factorings

    - by Tony Veijalainen
Let's say we have numbers factors, for example 1260: >>> factors(1260) [2, 2, 3, 3, 5, 7] Which would be best way to do in Python combinations with every subproduct possible from these numbers, ie all factorings, not only prime factoring, with sum of factors less than max_sum? If I do combinations from the prime factors, I have to refactor remaining part of the product as I do not know the remaining part not in combination. Example results would be: [4, 3, 3, 5, 7] (one replacement) [3, 6, 14, 5] (two replacements)

  • Why is my visual studio 2008 project read-only

    - by Richard
I'm working on a project for school, we use visual studio 2008 there and I use it at home, both are express edition. The project in question I started at school, but I cannot edit it at home, when I open the .sln I get this "The IntelliSense information will not be available for .VC++ projects because the Intellisense database file Location/Junk.ncb could not be opened for writing. Other features will also be affected if the solution directory is read-only." How do I open my project so that I can edit it?

  • Advantages of SQLServer vs. MySQL for C#/.NET4 Cloud Applications

    - by Ed Eichman
I am considering building several C#/.NET4 applications all using a central, cloud based database. In addition, several LAMP (MySQL) web shops will be accessing the cloud DB. MySQL is the database that I'm most familiar with, and my default selection for the cloud DB would be MySQL on Amazon or Joyent. However, I was wondering what development "extras" are available for SQLServer in VisualStudio 2010 that are not available for MySQL. Are there any "killer features" that should make me consider SQLServer instead of MySQL?

  • How to suppress all Warnings

    - by Eric
The unit tests for a product that I am taking over have not been kept up with during the products development and they are very broken. I am trying to fix them as an exercise to become familiar with the code. However, the all the deprecation warnings are a PITA as they interfere with the display of the test results. Is there a way to suppress the warnings when I execute the unit tests? Thanks!

  • What power do I have over my license?

    - by DavidG
Say for example, I've written some code under GPL 3. My company wants to use that code for a commercial product. Am I allowed to then say to them that they can use it under LGPL/MIT or any other license? If so, would I then have to change the included header at the top of each file? If so, what is stopping someone else from changing the license on my code?

  • Jira task hierarchies

    - by John
Searching online, I see lots of people asking for features to have multiple levels of sub-tasks, and proper sub-task functionality (like FogBugz). But I don't know if it's planned in future versions, or if plugins exist to provide this functionality. Does anyone know?

  • How to ignore noiseXXX.txt files for a specific column in SQL Server 2005?

    - by John MacIntyre
I have a product table where the description column is fulltext indexed. The problem is, users frequently search a single word, which happens to be in the noiseXXX.txt files. We'd like to keep the noise word functionality enabled, but is there anyway to turn it off just for this one column? I think you can do this in 2008 with the SET STOPLIST=OFF, but I can't seem to find similar functionality in SQL Server 2005.
