Is there something similar to Altiris (now Symatec) Software Virtualization Suite for Mac OS X?
Or just a possibility to "revert" all changes a app/installer made to the filesystem?
Thanks
I have just got a 15" Digimate TFT LCD monitor. I'm running Windows 7.
Now the icons are too big, as are the windows in both browsers and word processing software - and everything has a bit to the left cut off, so for instance I can no longer see the back button in Chrome.
I've tried looking at the resolution and adjusting the monitor settings, but no luck. I've also tried updating drivers, but can't find any compatible ones.
I'm preparing to remotely install Windows 2008 Standard onto a 6250 blade module mounted in a SunBlade 6000 chassis rack.
Are there any gotchas (aside from the predictable issues related to bandwidth in transferring the ISO, etc.) for this? Has anyone else successfully completed this task?
I'm not a hardware guy, I'm a software guy who has been handed this task because the guys in the datacenter don't want to touch it.
Any help is appreciated.
What is the best way to backup windows SQL, Exchange or AD servers data to?
NAS, external USB , iSCSI or perhaps some other backup solution?
I will not however be considering cloud backup solutions due to bandwidth restrictions and cost.
Currently I find NAS devices to give the best results but clients that do not have the budget for backup software use Windows Server Backup but then they can make only 1 backup to a NAS at a time.
Hi,
I have installed "Damn Small Linux" on my home computer for doing C development in unix. But the distribution doesn't by default come with the C development environment and I am facing some issues when trying to install the gcc.
Is there any other small Linux distribution which by default has the required packages for the C development. And also I don't want additional software which takes up lot of space but still would like to have the graphical environment.
Thanks
otherwise can my PC component ( Monitor, Motherboard, RAM, HDD, CPU, SMPS) get damage dues to suddenly power gone and come and due to power fluctuation. or it's only needed to shut down windows Properly.
Can i face both Hardware and Software problems without UPS?
I burned a CD on XP using the built-in burning software and I can read the CD on that machine, but when I insert it into my Vista machine, I can't read the files. It shows the correct volume label, and the correct 'free space', but I can't access the actual files.
Am I missing something obvious?
(Both systems are fully up-to-date)
When I come home I plugin my phone into PC, and I would like to type SMS using computer keyboard, or generally navigate and control my phone using PC keyboard.
Is that possbile? Can you recommend a software?
I am using a MacBook and would like to sniff QQ traffic using WireShark or other software. The intercepted traffic will be UTF-8 or unicode, not ascii.
Is this possible, and is there a tutorial that explains this?
QQ uses UDP and some more interesting control structures, which is why I as seeking a specialized solution.
Quick question – do you know any software or way of doing a live screenshot of a window and bring it to the foreground? It’d be like picture link in Excel...
My problem is that I am running various tasks in IE and Oracle, and they take forever but i have no way of seeing if they’re done without tabbing back into them all the time. I want something so that I can always see in the foreground the status bar/egg-timers thingy for them.
Thanks all
What is a good free Windows XP tool to monitor my computer's sensors such as its temperature, fan peed, and hard disk diagnostics?
I think I remember there being a British piece of software that did this, but can't find it.

I have made a backup using Acronis 2010. And I've tested it on vmware.
And I'm having problems booting up the dual boot vm. After restoring from the .tib file. What do I do?What other software that can image the os can you recommend that is easier to use than Acronis.
I use Dropbox for relatively simple tasks, such as sharing mp3 files between my home PC and work laptop. What types of clever things can I use this software for? I imagine it could be quite powerful as a collaboration tool.
Hi, in all versions of Windows we are unable to rename a file or a folder name as con unless we use a renaming software. Why a file or a folder can't be renamed as con?
Hi, i have a problem with screen software, when i try to start screen with options screen -Amds screenname /patch/to/script.sh - nothing happens, it's a problem only on debian system. On CentOs,FreeBSD - everything is ok (other os i don't use, and don't know of the problem).
I'm setting up a production server on Ubuntu 10.04 using this technology stack:
Nodejs
Nginx to serve static contents
Mongo
Redis
Upstart for running applications as services
Monit for monitoring node application and nginx server
The server will host only 5 applications of this type. Nothing else.
How would you setup Ubuntu Users? It's a good idea to create a User per Application? Would you install software (node, mongo...) as root or as user(s)?
Thanks in advance
Hi all,
I have had a bunch of Linux based streaming servers that employed lighttpd web server to provide video streaming via port 80.
Recently, our service is very slow. Therefore, I would like to ask if there is a good software package that helps us monitor and record our bandwidth usage, lighttpd established connections, TCP sync connections, disk I/O ... over time.
Any suggestions?

Dinh
I have to transcribe some audio (not enough to download dedicated software but enough to put my hacker hat on) and flipping back and forth between vlc and my text editor every time I want to pause is really annoying.
Is there a way to always route a key-press (for example F10) to vlc regardless of what window has focus.
Bonus - I have a Makey Makey so if I can get this working I can create a pedal and it will be my first real use of it!
I have a raw (no codec used for compression) AVI file that I am trying to import into iMovie '09. When I did this with the old iMovie '06, I was able to import it. Now it is just grayed out.
Is there a lossless step I can use to import this video into iMovie?
If the answer is a straight NO, what software alternative should I investigate for my movie editing needs?
How can I export the security member's list from a security group to an excel sheet. I've found some code on the web but I would need an UI or a software that can do this.
I'm open to Powershell tho...

Hi,
I am looking at buying a desktop and have narrowed down my choices to 2 machines with exactly the same specs, but different CPU's.
Machine 1 CPU: Intel® Core™2 Quad Processor Q8300 (4M Cache, 2.50 GHz, 1333 MHz FSB)
Machine 2 CPU: Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor E7500 (3M Cache, 2.93 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB)
I plan on using the PC for the following:
Music Playing
Software Development
Virtual Machine Running
Gaming
"General Work"
Which CPU would better suit the job?
I have been asked to set up a ticketing/help desk system for a small nonprofit. Our server runs Debian GNU/Linux.
Because we already have WordPress installed and plan to exploit it heavily going forward, I'm wondering whether there are any WP-based ticketing systems. Obviously, it will simplify the admin's life to have less software installed on the server.
Thanks.
From wiki:
The vital TRIM function is supported by the Linux OS starting with 2.6.33 kernel (available early 2010). However, support amongst various filesystems is still inconsistent or not present. Proper partition alignment is also not carried out by installation software.
So, which filesystem works best for SSD and supports TRIM + partition alignment during install and is available on Ubuntu?
VMware ESXi 4 supports VMI paravirtualization for 32-bit OS but not for 64-bit OS. For performance consideration, is it better to use a 32-bit Ubuntu Server guest without paravirtualization or a 64-bit one with VMI paravirtualization?
Hardware: Core 2 Quad, 8 GB RAM
