  • regular expression of 0's and 1's

    - by Lopa
Hello all I got this question which asks me to figure out why is it foolish to write a regular expression for the language that consists of strings of 0's and 1's that are palindromes( they read the same backwards and forwards). part 2 of the question says using any formal mechanism of your choice, show how it is possible to express the language that consists of strings of 0's and 1's that are palindromes?

  • Which European conference is the best equivalent of OSCON?

    - by smci
Looking for a large European developer/software conference, open-source-friendly, programming-language-neutral, platform-neutral, vendor-neutral. Any recommendations? apparently there briefly used to be a Euro OSCON (2004-2006? what happened?) some good language/app-specific ones like EuroPython, EuroSciPy, DjangoCon European BarCamps seem kind of fragmented, esp. for an English-speaking audience anything bigger or better? If there isn't anything, I wonder if O'Reilly would resurrect Euro OSCON.

  • Runtime C function details

    - by Sridhar
Hi, Is there any way to find particular C language function's input and output parameters from a framework (apple's ARM) during the runtime or from any method with out knowing the headers. It is a framework and there are no header files for it.I decompile it with IDA Pro and it gives me the function names but not input and output parameters information. I am able to load those private functions using dlsym. Is it possible to find the parameters info in runtime (C language or Objective C) or from IDA Pro ? Regards, Raghu

  • How to best integrate generated code

    - by Arne
I am evaluating the use of code generation for my flight simulation project. More specifically there is a requirement to allow "the average engineer" (no offense I am one myself) to define the differential equations that describe the dynamic system in a more natural syntax than C++ provides. The idea is to devise a abstract descriptor language that can be easily understood and edited to generate C++ code from. This descriptor is supplied by the modeling engineer and used by the ones implementing and maintaining the simulation evironment to generate code. I've got something like this in mind: model Aircraft has state x1, x2; state x3; input double : u; input bool : flag1, flag2; algebraic double : x1x2; model Engine : tw1, tw2; model Gear : gear; model ISA : isa; trim routine HorizontalFight; trim routine OnGround, General; constant double : c1, c2; constant int : ci1; begin differential equations x1' = x1 + 2.*x2; x2' = x2 + x1x2; begin algebraic equations x1x2 = x1*x2 + x1'; end model It is important to retain the flexibility of the C language thus the descriptor language is meant to only define certain parts of the definition and implementation of the model class. This way one enigneer provides the model in from of the descriptor language as examplified above and the maintenance enigneer will add all the code to read parameters from files, start/stop/pause the execution of the simulation and how a concrete object gets instatiated. My first though is to either generate two files from the descriptor file: one .h file containing declarations and one .cpp file containing the implementation of certain functions. These then need to be #included at appropriate places [File Aircarft.h] class Aircraft { public: void Aircraft(..); // hand-written constructor void ReadParameters(string &file_name); // hand-written private: /* more hand wirtten boiler-plate code */ /* generate declarations follow */ #include "Aircraft.generated.decl" }; [File Aircraft.cpp] Aircarft::Aircraft(..) { /* hand-written constructer implementation */ } /* more hand-written implementation code */ /* generated implementation code follows */ #include "Aircraft.generated.impl" Any thoughts or suggestions?

  • Do console apps run faster than GUI apps?

    - by omair iqbal
I am relatively new to world of programming. I have a few performance questions: Do console apps run faster than apps with a graphical user interface? Are languages like C and Pascal faster than object oriented languages like C++ and Delphi? I know language speed depends more on compiler than on language itself, but do compilers for procedural languages produce faster code than OO ones (including C++ compilers that can produce C code)?

  • How do I edit error messages in GCC source

    - by user299274
Hi, I am trying to create a C Compiler in my native language which I intend to put up as open source. I want to do this by downloading the GCC source code and then manually translating the error messages and warnings into my target language. I am a beginner to GCC. Any idea where the error messages are located in the source code and how can I edit them?

  • How to do Map this or Add to calendar like gmail?

    - by dhaval
How would gmail have implemented this feature? What technologies go behind enabling such features? Any pointers or programming resource would be useful? It could be language neutral or specific to any language? Do you think they do something with antlr etc., to achieve the above?

  • Multilingual Flash

    - by Will
How do you make a Flash movie (using Haxe, or Actionscript code rather than the IDE) that supports multiple languages? Can you detect the browser's language? Are there utility classes for managing the strings and selecting the appropriate one based on language?

  • Java Garbage Collection

    - by pietervn
I was wondering about the garbage collection that takes place in Java. Is it really able to handle all objects that aren't used and free up the most possible memory? I also want to know how does the Java garbage collection compare to another language like lets say C#? And then, how does the automatic garbage collection measure up against manual collection from a language like C?

    I am aware that we can localize datepicker using $(selector).datepicker($.datepicker.regional['fr']); However can we do something like if a user passes in a value that's not supported by the datepicker regional, then automatically shift to the default language Something like: if(datepicker.regional does not support the language) $.datepicker.setDefaults($.datepicker.regional['']);

  • Which computer assisted translation format should I use for a ColdFusion site?

    - by user284950
I am creating a multilingual site that will need to support at minimum five different languages, including Korean and Chinese. The site language is ColdFusion, so Java is the native language. I want to make the site as easy as possible for the next programmer to update, and for third-party translators to use tools that will work easier for them than digging through a SQL database. So far I have come across Resource Bundles, GNU's GetText, and TMX. Which do you recommend and why?

I knew of two very popular books foreworded by the great software engineer himself: Design Patterns by GoF and J2EE Design Patterns. But when I googled about forewords written by Grady Booch then there were quite a few more books than I anticipated. Do we know the exact count? is he the leading foreword writer in the IT world?

  • Which new C#/VB features require .net Framework 4?

    - by Barry
I remember reading in passing that some of the new language features in C# and VB that are available in VS2010 are backwards compatible with earlier versions of the framework, but that others are not. I'm pretty sure this was in reference to the new property syntax in VB. Which new features are language features vs which ones are framework specific?

  • Shopping Cart in Flex 4

    - by chchrist
I am trying to code a shopping cart using Flex 4. I am at the design process and I need to figure out which design pattern to use. I am thinking of using the Singleton pattern. I will have a Product Value Object where I'll save each product's values and the I'll push each product to an array variable in my Singleton class. Is my logic OK? Is there a better way? Thanks in advance
