  • Lightweight .NET web development?

    - by Breck Fresen
Fellow stack overflowers, I'm currently working on a project that has a sizable amount of both client and web code. The client code is written in C# and the web piece is written in PHP. Maintaining consistency between the two worlds is becoming cumbersome, and I want consolidate the web code to .Net. The issue is that I hate web development in ASP.Net Web Forms. I want something as raw as PHP, just using C# instead. I've read a little about ASP.Net MVC, but it looks like it abstracts too much of the request logic for my liking. Does anyone know of a lightweight way to allow C# + .Net to handle web requests? Should I be looking more closely at MVC? Thanks in advance, -- Breck

  • WPF - Drag from withing DataTemplate

    - by Gustavo Cavalcanti
I have a ListBox displaying employees with a DataTemplate - it looks very similar to this screenshot. I want to be able to click on the employee photo, drag it and drop it somewhere out of the ListBox. How can I do that? I am not sure how to capture the PreviewMouseLeftButtonDown event of the Image, since it's inside the DataTemplate. Edit: The DataTemplate lives in a separate assembly and the drag/drop logic needs to be in the Window that has the ListBox. Edit2: I am thinking that the right way of doing this is using commands, am I right? Thanks!

  • Finding the maximum number of child nodes in a tree

    - by Jiminizer
First, I should make it clear that this is required for an academic project. I am trying to find the maximum number of child nodes for any node in a tree, using Common Lisp. My current code is shown below - I'm not 100% on the logic of it, but I feel it should work, however it isn't giving me the required result. (defun breadth (list y) (setf l y) (mapcar #'(lambda (element) (when (listp element) (when (> (breadth element (length element)) l) (setf l (breadth element (length element))) ))) list) l) (defun max-breadth(list) (breadth list (length list)) ) As an example, running (max-breadth '(a ( (b (c d)) e) (f g (h i) j))) should return 4. Does anyone have any ideas where I'm going wrong? I suspect it's related to the second conditional, but I'm not sure.

  • Joda-Time: DateTime, DateMidnight and LocalDate usage

    - by fraido
Joda-Time library includes different datetime classes DateTime - Immutable replacement for JDK Calendar DateMidnight - Immutable class representing a date where the time is forced to midnight LocalDateTime - Immutable class representing a local date and time (no time zone) I'm wondering how are you using these classes in your Layered Applications. I see advantages in having almost all the Interfaces using LocalDateTime (at the Service Layer at least) so that my Application doesn't have to manage Timezones and can safely assume Times always in UTC. My app could then use DateTime to manage Timezones at the very beginning of the Execution's Flow. I'm also wondering in which scenario can DateMidnight be useful.

  • PHP - Rotate a HEX color value (eg swap all colors with "next" hex)

    - by Joe
I have a set of hex values in an array in PHP. On my page, I have a slider which the user can "slide" to return a value between 1-100. I want to then, based on this slider value, swap all the colors in the array based on the colors "next" color based on the position in the array. An example of the same sort of thing would be like in photshop where you can rotate the hue of a layer. I want to do the same thing, in PHP, for a hex value. Any clues?

  • Performance Testing Versus Unit Testing

    - by Mystagogue
I'm reading Osherove's "The Art of Unit Testing," and though I've not yet seen him say anything about performance testing, two thoughts still cross my mind: Performance tests generally can't be unit tests, because performance tests generally need to run for long periods of time. Performance tests generally can't be unit tests, because performance issues too often manifest at an integration or system level (or at least the logic of a single unit test needed to re-create the performance of the integration environment would be too involved to be a unit test). Particularly for the first reason stated above, I doubt it makes sense for performance tests to be handled by a unit testing framework (such as NUnit). My question is: do my findings / leanings correspond with the thoughts of the community?

  • Silverlight chart with behavior/bitmap image tooltip passthrough

    - by isitdanny
I have a chart showing bound data as tooltips and it works well. I have added a magnifier(set of behaviors class) that captures a bitmap image at two times scale that shows in a circular area over the hover spot. The tooltip does not display. I have tried a custom tooltip service but cannot bind it to the behaviors. I added the tooltip to the behavior class and got a tooltip and data but could not move it with the magnifier. It just sits in the middle and laughs. I added a usercontrol "tooltip"-same issues, could not hook it to the magnifier behavior. I know I can probably build a popup, but really wanted to just pass through the bitmap layer with the tootip. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Danny

  • C# XP Sound QuickFix

    I have this: ThreadPool.QueueUserWorkItem(new WaitCallback(FireAttackProc), fireResult); and FireAttackProc: private void FireAttackProc(Object stateInfo) { // Process Attack/Fire (local) lock (_procLock) { // build status message String status = "(Away vs. Home)"; // get Fire Result state info FireResult fireResult = (FireResult)stateInfo; // update home grid with attack information GameModel.HomeCellStatusSet(fireResult.FireGridLocation, Cell.cellState.Lock); this.Invoke(new Action(delegate() { RefreshHomeGrid(); })); status = status + "(Attack Coordinate: (" + GameModel.alphaCoords(fireResult.FireGridLocation.Column) + "," + fireResult.FireGridLocation.Row + "))(Result: "; // play audio data if true if (audio) { String Letters; Stream stream; SoundPlayer player; Letters = GameModel.alphaCoords(fireResult.FireGridLocation.Column); stream = Properties.Resources.ResourceManager.GetStream("_" + Letters); player = new System.Media.SoundPlayer(stream); player.PlaySync(); Letters = fireResult.FireGridLocation.Row.ToString(); stream = Properties.Resources.ResourceManager.GetStream("__" + Letters); player = new System.Media.SoundPlayer(stream); player.PlaySync(); stream.Dispose(); player.Dispose(); } if (audio) { SoundPlayer fire = new SoundPlayer(Properties.Resources.fire); fire.PlaySync(); fire.Dispose(); } // deal with hit/miss switch (fireResult.Hit) { case true: this.Invoke(new Action(delegate() { GameModel.HomeCellStatusSet(fireResult.FireGridLocation, Cell.cellState.Hit); status = status + "(Hit)"; })); if (audio) { SoundPlayer hit = new SoundPlayer(Properties.Resources.firehit); hit.PlaySync(); hit.Dispose(); } break; case false: this.Invoke(new Action(delegate() { GameModel.HomeCellStatusSet(fireResult.FireGridLocation, Cell.cellState.Miss); status = status + "(Miss)"; })); GameModel.PlayerNextTurn = NietzscheBattleshipsGameModel.GamePlayers.Home; if (audio) { SoundPlayer miss = new SoundPlayer(Properties.Resources.firemiss); miss.PlaySync(); miss.Dispose(); } break; } // refresh home grid with updated data this.Invoke(new Action(delegate() { RefreshHomeGrid(); })); GameToolStripStatusLabel.Text = status + ")"; // deal with ship destroyed if (fireResult.ShipDestroyed) { status = status + "(Destroyed: " + GameModel.getShipDescription(fireResult.DestroyedShipType) + ")"; if (audio) { Stream stream; SoundPlayer player; stream = Properties.Resources.ResourceManager.GetStream("_home"); player = new System.Media.SoundPlayer(stream); player.PlaySync(); player.Dispose(); stream.Dispose(); string ShipID = fireResult.DestroyedShipType.ToString(); stream = Properties.Resources.ResourceManager.GetStream("_" + ShipID); player = new System.Media.SoundPlayer(stream); player.PlaySync(); player.Dispose(); stream.Dispose(); stream = Properties.Resources.ResourceManager.GetStream("_destroyed"); player = new System.Media.SoundPlayer(stream); player.PlaySync(); player.Dispose(); stream.Dispose(); } } // deal with win condition if (fireResult.Win) { if (audio) { Stream stream; SoundPlayer player; stream = Properties.Resources.ResourceManager.GetStream("_home"); player = new System.Media.SoundPlayer(stream); player.PlaySync(); player.Dispose(); stream = Properties.Resources.ResourceManager.GetStream("_loses"); player = new System.Media.SoundPlayer(stream); player.PlaySync(); player.Dispose(); } GameModel.gameContracts = new GameContracts(); } // update status message if (fireResult.Hit) { if (!fireResult.Win) { status = status + "(Turn: Away)"; LockGUIControls(); } } // deal with turn logic if (GameModel.PlayerNextTurn == NietzscheBattleshipsGameModel.GamePlayers.Home) { this.Invoke(new Action(delegate() { if (!fireResult.Win) { status = status + "(Turn: Home)"; AwayTableLayoutPanel.Enabled = true; } })); } // deal with win condition if (fireResult.Win) { this.Invoke(new Action(delegate() { status = status + "(Game: Home Loses)"; CancelToolStripMenuItem.Enabled = false; NewToolStripMenuItem.Enabled = true; LockGUIControls(); })); } // display completed status message GameToolStripStatusLabel.Text = status + ")"; } } The issue is this: Under Vista/win7 the sound clips in the FireAttackProc plays. But under XP the logic contained within FireAttackProc gets executed but none of the sound clips play. Is there a quick solution to this so the sound will play under XP? I ask for a quick solution because i am happy being able to execute fully in Vista/Win7 but would be great if there was a quick solution so it would be XP compitable also. Thank you.

  • LINQ-To-SQL and Many-To-Many Relationship Deletions

    - by Jake
I have a many-to-many relationship between two tables, let's say Friends and Foods. If a friend likes a food I stick a row into the FriendsFoods table, like this: ID Friend Food 1 'Tom' 'Pizza' FriendsFoods has a Primary Key 'ID', and two non-null foreign keys 'Friend' and 'Food' to the 'Friends' and 'Foods' tables, respectively. Now suppose I have a Friend tom .NET object corresponding to 'Tom', and Tom no longer likes pizza (what is wrong with him?) FriendsFoods ff = tom.FriendsFoods.Where(x => x.Food.Name == 'Pizza').Single(); tom.FriendsFoods.Remove(ff); pizza.FriendsFoods.Remove(ff); If I try to SubmitChanges() on the DataContext, I get an exception because it attempts to insert a null into the Friend and Food columns in the FriendsFoods table. I'm sure I can put together some kind of convoluted logic to track changes to the FriendsFoods table, intercept SubmitChanges() calls, etc to try and get this to work the way I want, but is there a nice, clean way to remove a Many-To-Many relationship with LINQ-To-SQL?

  • MySQL Trigger creation

    - by Bruce Garlock
I have an application where I need to INSERT an auto_increment value from a PK in another table. I know how to do this in PHP, but I need to have this done at the DB level, since I cannot change the program logic. I am new to triggers, so I'm sure this will be an easy answer for someone. Here is what I have so far: DELIMITER // CREATE TRIGGER new_project AFTER INSERT ON m_quality_header FOR EACH ROW BEGIN INSERT INTO m_quality_detail (d_matl_qa_ID) VALUES (NEW.h_matl_qa_ID); END// DELIMITER ; I just want the value of the auto_increment value from h_matl_qa_ID to be inserted as a new record into d_matl_qa_ID. The error I get is: "This version of MySQL doesn't yet support 'multiple triggers with the same action time and event for one table' But, I don't want to update the table that has the trigger, so why is my current code considered a 'multiple' trigger? This is on MySQL 5.0.45-7.el5 running on a CentOS 5 server (64-bit Intel) If I have to, I can modify the PHP code, but that needs to be the last resort.

  • MVC2: Best Way to Intercept ViewRequest and Alter ActionResult

    - by Matthew
I'm building an ASP.NET MVC2 Web Application that requires some sophisticated authentication and business logic that cannot be achieved using the out of the box forms authentication. I'm new to MVC so bear with me... My plan was to mark all restricted View methods with one or more custom attributes (that contain additional data). The controller would then override the OnActionExecuting method to intercept requests, analyze the target view's attributes, and do a variety of different things, including re-routing the user to different places. I have the interception and attribute analysis working, but the redirection is not working as expected. I have tried setting the ActionExecutingContext.Result to null and even have tried spooling up controllers via reflection and invoking their action methods. No dice. I was able to achieve it this way... protected override void OnActionExecuting(ActionExecutingContext filterContext) { filterContext.HttpContext.Response.Redirect("/MyView", false); base.OnActionExecuting(filterContext); } This seems like a hack, and there has to be a better way...

  • Why is thread local storage so slow?

    - by dsimcha
I'm working on a custom mark-release style memory allocator for the D programming language that works by allocating from thread-local regions. It seems that the thread local storage bottleneck is causing a huge (~50%) slowdown in allocating memory from these regions compared to an otherwise identical single threaded version of the code, even after designing my code to have only one TLS lookup per allocation/deallocation. This is based on allocating/freeing memory a large number of times in a loop, and I'm trying to figure out if it's an artifact of my benchmarking method. My understanding is that thread local storage should basically just involve accessing something through an extra layer of indirection, similar to accessing a variable via a pointer. Is this incorrect? How much overhead does thread-local storage typically have? Note: Although I mention D, I'm also interested in general answers that aren't specific to D, since D's implementation of thread-local storage will likely improve if it is slower than the best implementations.

  • Trying to extend ActionView::Helpers::FormBuilder

    - by nibbo
Hello I am trying to DRY up some code by moving some logic into the FormBuilder. After reading the documentation about how to select and alternative form builder the logical solution for me seemed to be something like this. In the view <% form_for @event, :builder => TestFormBuilder do |f| %> <%= f.test %> <%= f.submit 'Update' %> <% end %> and then in app/helpers/application_helper.rb module ApplicationHelper class TestFormBuilder < ActionView::Helpers::FormBuilder def test puts 'apa' end end end This, however, gives me an error at the "form_for" uninitialized constant ActionView::Base::CompiledTemplates::TestFormBuilder Where am I doing it wrong?

  • IComponentActivator Instance

    - by jeffn825
How can I use an IComponentActivator instance for a component, not just specifying a type. That is, instead of Component.For<XYZ>.Activator<MyComponentActivator>(); I want to be able say Component.For<XYZ>.Activator(new MyComponentActivator(someImportantRuntimeInfo)); Also, is there a way I can choose an activator dynamically for a non specifically registered component? That is, I want to have an activator that looks at the type being resolved, decides if it can activate it, and if not, responsibility for activation should be passed on to the default activator. So basically I want a global IComponentActivator that has the following logic: Create(Type type){ if (ShouldActivate(type)){ DoActivate(type); } else{ // do default activation here somehow } } Thanks!

  • good documentation about "avoid catching throwable", in context of weblogic server

    - by Marcel
hi all, i am currently refactoring an existing codebase (EJBs...) to rip out all blocks where a Throwable is catched inside of the EJB. try { ... do some business logic } catch(Throwable t){ ... log and swallow ... :-( } i want/need to convince the people around me with proper documentation that "catching throwable" is a no-go for an EJB (we have lots of discussions around this :-(( ). weblogic will handle all the "Error" conditions and maybe invalidate EJBs and put fresh(working) EJBs into the pool. catching Throwable would undermine all these security nets provided by weblogic. and catching throwable is bad practice anyway (but people here are reluctant and use the "throwable" hammer everywhere). is anyone able to point me to some online docs where this behaviour is explained (for weblogic or jboss or...). i searched via google and had a look at the weblogic docs but wasn't able to find anything, just generic java doc. any help highly appreciated cheers marcel

  • What's wrong with my regex

    - by Tom Brown
Yes I know its usually a bad idea to parse HTML using RegEx, but that aside can someone explain the fault here: string outputString = Regex.Replace(inputString, @"<?(?i:script|embed|object|frameset|frame|iframe|metalink|style|html|img|layer|ilayer|meta|applet)(.|\n)*?>", ""); if (outputString != inputString) { Console.WriteLine("unwanted tags detected"); } It certainly detects the intended tags like: <script> and <html>, but it also rejects strings I want to allow such as <B>Description</B> and <A href="http://www.mylink.com/index.html">A Link containing 'HTML'</A>

  • Use of "setTimeout()" in my jQuery Expression

    - by Aaron Salazar
I'm trying to add the JavaScript function setTimeout() to my jQuery expression. Without the setTimeout() my function loads a partial view with updated information when I enter text into my textbox. But, it loads the information with every keystroke. My logic is that if I can put in a timer then when the user stops typing, a second later the data is updated. As you can see I tried to put a setTimer() in but it doesn't seem to be working. $(function() { $('#DocId').live('keyup', function() { setTimeout(var styleValue = $(this).val(); $('#tableContent').load( '/CurReport/TableResults', { style: $(this).val()}), 1000); }), }); Thank you, Aaron

  • Remove address fields from Mac address book using Applescript

    - by cemregr
Hello, A Facebook Sync app filled the address fields of my Mac Address Book contacts with their cities. Having tons of people who have useless addresses makes it difficult to search by people on Google Maps app (ending up scrolling through many many people- I only want to see those who have proper addresses entered). I want to clear all the home address fields in my address book using applescript. I wrote something small but couldn't get it to work, probably needs some help from somebody who knows applescript :) tell application "Address Book" repeat with this_person in every person repeat with this_address in every address of this_person if label of this_address is "home" then remove this_address from addresses of this_person end if end repeat end repeat end tell I tried to deduct the logic of multiple addresses/phones from other scripts but could only find adding them, not removing them. Thanks! :)

  • c# Xml ADD A XML NODE AS A CHILD TO A PARTICULAR OTHER NODE

    - by kacalapy
i have an xml doc with a structure like this: below is supposed to be XML but i dont know how to format it so it will show correct so i used [ ] instead of the typical < [Book] [Title title="Door Three"/] [Author name ="Patrick"/] [/Book] [Book] [Title title="Light"/] [Author name ="Roger"/] [/Book] i want to be able to PROGRAMMATICALY add xml nodes to this xml in a particular place. lets say i wanted to add a Link node as a child to the author node where the name is Roger (or whatever dynamic value is passed in here). i think its best if the function containing this logic is passed a param for the name to add an xml node under, please advise and whats the code i need to add xml nodes to a certain place in the xml? now i am using .AppendChild() method but it doesn't allow for me to specify a parent node to add under... thanks all.

  • is_tarfile() returns True for a blank file

    - by Zachary Young
Hello all, I am testing some logic to handle a user uploading a TAR file. When I feed a blank file to tarfile.is_tarfile() it returns True, which is not what I am expecting: $ touch tartest $ cat tartest $ python -c "import tarfile; print tarfile.is_tarfile('tartest')" True If I add some text to the file, it returns False, which I am expecting: $ echo "not a tar" > tartest $ python -c "import tarfile; print tarfile.is_tarfile('tartest')" False I could add a check at the beginning to check for a zero-length file, but based on the documentation for tarfile.is_tarfile(name) I think this is unecessary: Return True if name is a tar archive file, that the tarfile module can read. I went so far as to check the source, tarfile.py, and I can see that it is checking header blocks but I do not fully understand how it is evaluating those blocks. Am I misreading the documentation and therefore setting unfair expectations? Thank you, Zachary

  • Overload assignment operator for assigning sql::ResultSet to struct tm

    - by Luke Mcneice
Are there exceptions for types which can't have thier assignment operator overloaded? Specifically, I'm wanting to overload the assignment operator of a struct tm (from time.h) so I can assign a sql::ResultSet to it. I already have the conversion logic: sscanf(sqlresult->getString("StoredAt").c_str(), "%d-%d-%d %d:%d:%d", &TempTimeStruct->tm_year, &TempTimeStruct->tm_mon, &TempTimeStruct->tm_mday, &TempTimeStruct->tm_hour, &TempTimeStruct->tm_min, &TempTimeStruct->tm_sec); I tried the overload with this: tm& tm::operator=(sql::ResultSet & results) { /*CODE*/ return *this; } However VS08 reports: error C2511: 'tm &tm::operator =(sql::ResultSet &)' : overloaded member function not found in 'tm'

This way I can see which items are most clicked on. The logic to add it to a db etc is easy to do. What I need to know is, how do I plug into the "add to cart" part. I.e. How do I know when this has been clicked?
