How do I enable/disable a stick pointing device in Ubuntu (9.10)? How can I configure clicking and scrolling with the stick pointer? (I can't click with the stick and scroll the page.)
Sometimes when I click on the button on the language bar for the IME pad, it won't show up. Is there any other way to get it to show up again besides restarting the computer?
I have SharePoint 2010 installed on my machine. For synchronizing user profiles I am trying to start "Forefront Identity Manager Service".
But, when I click on start, it says the following message:
The Forefront Identity Manager Service
service on WINSP02 started and then
stopped. Some services stop
automatically if they are not in use
by other services or programs.
Can anyone please help me in starting this windows service?
I'd like to take an IP address from my Terminal, right click, select Services Whois and get the results back somehow.
This doesn't exist so I'm wanting to create a simple Automator script to do that. But, I'm running into a few problems.
This is what I've done - Automator Actions:
Get Specified Text
xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
Run Shell Script
for x in "$@";
do whois $x;
done
View Results
But all I get in View Results is this:
(
""
)
Any suggestions?
Here is the deal, i want to make right click on a image file on my pc and in the contextual menu hit an option who say: "Upload to imageshack" or similar, do you know a program who do this?
Any thoughts on why the driver search (when installing a usb device) on windows 7 is woefully slow? Even when I click to disable trying to get a driver from windows update, it still takes 10min+ to either find a driver, or bail out.
Is there a way to speed this up, or alternately, disable windows trying to find drivers, so I can manually install them in device manager?
I'm trying to connect from my Mac to a directory on a Windows server.
Here is what I'm doing from the finder :
menu Go->connect to server->smb://srv-fichiers1/Personnel/conujer
I get an error (error code -36).
But, from the finder window, if I click on Shared->All->srv-fichier1->Personnel->conujer, I have access to the directory.
I don't understand why I cannot connect straight to conujer.
Is there any way to configure outlook to send messages without Outlook being open? We're currently using a system where the "Email Page" opens a outlook Sendto window. You can click "Send", but the message stays in the (Outbox) until you open Outlook. I'm trying to get around opening Outlook. Anyone have any ideas?
I have a web site I visit. When I click a link, the link is something like:
a.com/something/blah.php
Then moments later the url in the browser changes to something like:
a.com/somethingelse/blahblah.php
Is there a way with any browser (especially firefox) to have it ask me before redirecting?
I have tried the 'ask me before redirecting' feature in firefox but in this case since it redirects to its own site it does not seem to work.
I had a harddrive failure (Click of death) which is where "My Documents" was located. Now, when I try to boot Windows XP, it cannot start up. How do I fix the issue so I can boot up? Do I just need to add a new drive so that the D: can be found?
So I want to make a batch file that will sleep my computer after a period of time.
The closest thing I have found is placing it in standby, but seems to work differently then the sleep button on my keyboard (longer bootup, doesn't wake on mouse click). Any ideas? Would it be easier in python or c#?
The less then ideal technique mentioned above is calling this in the cmd prompt:
Rundll32.exe powrprof.dll,SetSuspendState
On Windows Vista, I right-click on a folder, Properties, Sharing tab, and either "Advanced Sharing" or "Share"-"Share" causes an error:
Windows File Sharing
This program will not run
Access is denied.
Close
My user account is an "administrator" on this machine.
I think this behavior changed since my computer was added to the new domain recently. I have other folders shared (from long ago), and they continue to be shared just fine.
I right-click on a top-level folder in Windows Explorer. I choose Properties Security tab Advanced Change Permissions. I check "Replace all child object permissions with inheritable permissions from this object" Apply. I get a Windows Security dialog that says, "Setting security information on" the list of objects that flashes by. But now the "Replace all child object permissions" box is unchecked. What is happening here?
Is it possible to configure Google somehow to permanently ban search results from domains that I know 100% are never, ever going to make me happy? Something cookie/session based maybe?
E.g.: I want to ban (permanently, forever and always) results from experts-exchange.com. Every time I click results that take me to their page I just want to scream.
When I click "View Designer" to view a Winform in Design mode, VS2010 automatically checks out the file.
I realize that there are probably options to silently check out the file without connfirmation, but why is VS thinking that it needs the file checked out in the first place? If I don't check it out, I can't view it. T

The only thing I miss from Vista on W7 is that, you can click the batery icon and select one of three power profiles without having to open the Energy option Window.
Can I archieve this on W7 Without having to install a third party tool? I have tried one, but with so many bugs and problems, but I guess there are maybe one tool out there that works fine.
I'm Using W7 Professional x64
Thanks in advance
Is there any google chrome extension that lets you manage other extensions? So that you can disable and enable them by just one click
Because I have many extensions installed in my chrome browser but I do not use them everytime. So I disable them, then enable them later using the bookmark with this address:
chrome://extensions/
Everytime I log in I see the 'Information Regarding Web Browsers' browser choice popup. Even if I click OK and then select the browser that I already have installed it still appears next time I log in.
How do I get rid of this?
I have a few Window XP clients that are part of a domain, when trying to set the permissions on the security tab and pressing location to search the AD for users it only presents the local machine...
So I follow this path
Right click folder Properties Security Add
in the locations field where I would normally see the windows domain, I am only seeing the local machine name???
So only users that have a local account can be added to the folders permissions...
Any tips would be appreciated
How do I solve this problem? I've already reset virtual box, but it doesnt really detect the flash drive, when I click on devices and select usb devices, it says that there are no device that are available
If I launch an application from my local drive, I can right click on the icon in the task bar and it gives me an option to pin to the taskbar. But an application launched from a network drive does not give me that option.

My sister still has Win XP. She tried to print a document on her USB printer and now it's stuck in the printing queue. I tried the following:
Restart the computer
Restart the printer
Delete the entry from the printing queue
From the printing queue choose Printer\Cancel All Documents
Right click the print job and choose Pause
The status of the printing job now reads "Deleting - Paused - Printing".
Nothing I do seems to get rid of this stuck printing job.
What should I do?
Whenever I try to click a message in Outlook 2003 or do "New Message" I get a Save As file window and the program stops responding.
This also happens when I try to open Word files.
I've tried rebooting and I've tried to go through the repair process on the Office install disk.
