  • Custom TableViewCell with TextField and first responder

    - by Robb
    I have a custom TableView cell that contains a TextField and I want it to become the first responder as soon as the view is shown but [textcell.textfield becomeFirstResponder] does not work. I know it's because it's a custom cell in another class and I even tried it there and it didn't work. Anyone know how to pull this off? Thanks...

  • UIImagePickerController camera preview is portrait in landscape app

    - by Jane Sales
    In my landscape-only iPhone application, I launch a UIImagePickerController to take a photo, but the live image displayed from the camera is in portrait orientation, with blank space around it. The image is rotated. Once the camera button is pressed, the preview is very messy, with most of the preview off screen, and views not correctly aligned. Apple has acknowledged that this is defect, and is working on it. My question is, does anyone have a work-around (legal or illegal) that would allow me to get this working now. I wouldn't release to the App Store with an illegal fix, but I would have a much better app for user testing - currently the camera is pretty much unusable in landscape. I will attach a simple test project and images if I can. Edit - just to clarify, the image I get is correctly landscape. I want the camera & preview UIs to look right!

  • How do I use a modalViewController Identically in Two Controllers?

    - by Theory
    I'm using the Three20 TTMessageController in my app. I've figured out how to use it, adding on a bunch of other stuff (including TTMessageControllerDelegate methods and ABPeoplePickerNavigationControllerDelegate methods). It works great for me, after a bit of a struggle to figure it out. The trouble I'm having now is a design issue: I want to use it identically in two different places, including with the same delegate methods. My current approach is that I've put all the code into a single class inheriting from NSObject, called ComposerProxy, and I'm just having the two controllers that use it use the proxy, like so: ComposerProxy *proxy = [[ComposerProxy alloc] initWithController:this]; [proxy go]; The go method constructs the TTMessageController, configures it, adds it to a UINavigationController, and presents it: [self.controller presentModalViewController: navController animated: YES]; This works great, as I have all my code nicely encapsulated in ComposerProxy and I need only the above two lines anywhere I want to use it. The downside, though, is that I can't dealloc the proxy variable without getting crashes. I can't autorelease it, either: same problem. So I'm wondering if my proxy approach is a poor one. How does one normally encapsulate a bunch of behaviors like this without requiring a lot of duplicate code in the classes that use it? Do I need to add a delegate class to my ComposerProxy and make the controller responsible for dismissing the modal view controller in a hypothetical composerDidFinish method or some such? Many TIA!

  • Memory leak for NSDictionary loaded by plist file

    - by Pask
    I have a memory leak problem that just can not understand! Watch this initialization method: - (id)initWithNomeCompositore:(NSString *)nomeCompositore nomeOpera:(NSString *)nomeOpera { if (self = [super init]) { NSString *pathOpere = [[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:kNomeFilePlistOpere ofType:kTipoFilePlist]; NSDictionary *dicOpera = [NSDictionary dictionaryWithDictionary: [[[NSDictionary dictionaryWithContentsOfFile:pathOpere] objectForKey:nomeCompositore] objectForKey:nomeOpera]]; self.nomeCompleto = [[NSString alloc] initWithString:nomeOpera]; self.compositore = [[NSString alloc] initWithString:nomeCompositore]; self.tipologia = [[NSString alloc] initWithString:[dicOpera objectForKey:kKeyTipologia]]; } return self;} Then this little variation (note self.tipologia): - (id)initWithNomeCompositore:(NSString *)nomeCompositore nomeOpera:(NSString *)nomeOpera { if (self = [super init]) { NSString *pathOpere = [[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:kNomeFilePlistOpere ofType:kTipoFilePlist]; NSDictionary *dicOpera = [NSDictionary dictionaryWithDictionary: [[[NSDictionary dictionaryWithContentsOfFile:pathOpere] objectForKey:nomeCompositore] objectForKey:nomeOpera]]; self.nomeCompleto = [[NSString alloc] initWithString:nomeOpera]; self.compositore = [[NSString alloc] initWithString:nomeCompositore]; self.tipologia = [[NSString alloc] initWithString:@"Test"]; } return self;} In the first variant is generated a memory leak, the second is not! And I just can not understand why! The memory leak is evidenced by Instruments, highlighted the line: [NSDictionary dictionaryWithContentsOfFile:pathOpere] This is the dealloc method: - (void)dealloc { [tipologia release]; [compositore release]; [nomeCompleto release]; [super dealloc];}

  • CAShapeLayer slowing down interface rotation

    - by MrMage
    Hi, I am trying to move some custom drawing code from a view into a CAShapeLayer, which then get added as a sublayer to the original view's CALayer. This also works well, but when rotating the device, the animation starts to stutter, e.g. you just see the frame in the original orientation and then the final orientation, with at most one frame in between - not smooth at all. Slide-in and slide-out animations of the corresponding UIViewController are a bit jerky, too (but not that much). All the CAShapeLayer has in its path is one CGPathAddRect, it is set to be opaque, its opacity is 1.0f and the fillColor is set to opaque blue. When drawing the path directly in the views drawRect method, however, the animation is smooth. So I suppose it has something to do with the CAShapeLayer being animated during the rotation. Could you tell me how to either get rid of those jerkiness or just hide the CAShapeLayer when animating? Getting back to just draw CGPaths directly is not an option to me because I rely on the ability of CAShapeLayer to animate its path (it is not animated in my tries with rotating the view). /update: this also happens when the rotating UIViewControllers view contains a view with a subclass of CAGradientLayer as its layerClass (e.g. a view with a gradient layer as background). Cheers MrMage

  • What could cause this difference in behaviour from iphone OS3.0 to iOS4.0?

    - by frankodwyer
    I am getting a strange EXC_BAD_ACCESS error when running my app on iOS4. The app has been pretty solid on OS3.x for some time - not even seeing crash logs in this area of the code (or many at all) in the wild. I've tracked the error down to this code: main class: - (void) sendPost:(PostRequest*)request { NSAutoreleasePool *pool = [[NSAutoreleasePool alloc] init]; NSURLResponse* response; NSError* error; NSData *serverReply = [NSURLConnection sendSynchronousRequest:request.request returningResponse:&response error:&error]; ServerResponse* serverResponse=[[ServerResponse alloc] initWithResponse:response error:error data:serverReply]; [request.objectToNotifyWhenDone performSelectorOnMainThread:request.targetToNotifyWhenDone withObject:serverResponse waitUntilDone:YES]; [pool drain]; } (Note: sendPost is run on a separate thread for each invocation of it. PostRequest is just a class to encapsulate a request and a selector to notify when complete) ServerResponse.m: @synthesize response; @synthesize replyString; @synthesize error; @synthesize plist; - (ServerResponse*) initWithResponse:(NSURLResponse*)resp error:(NSError*)err data:(NSData*)serverReply { self.response=resp; self.error=err; self.plist=nil; self.replyString=nil; if (serverReply) { self.replyString = [[[NSString alloc] initWithBytes:[serverReply bytes] length:[serverReply length] encoding: NSASCIIStringEncoding] autorelease]; NSPropertyListFormat format; NSString *errorStr; plist = [NSPropertyListSerialization propertyListFromData:serverReply mutabilityOption:NSPropertyListImmutable format:&format errorDescription:&errorStr]; } return self; } ServerResponse.h: @property (nonatomic, retain) NSURLResponse* response; @property (nonatomic, retain) NSString* replyString; @property (nonatomic, retain) NSError* error; @property (nonatomic, retain) NSDictionary* plist; - (ServerResponse*) initWithResponse:(NSURLResponse*)response error:(NSError*)error data:(NSData*)serverReply; This reliably crashes with a bad access in the line: self.error=err; ...i.e. in the synthesized property setter! I'm stumped as to why this should be, given the code worked on the previous OS and hasn't changed since (even the binary compiled with the previous SDK crashes the same way, but not on OS3.0) - and given it is a simple property method. Any ideas? Could the NSError implementation have changed between releases or am I missing something obvious?

  • CATransitionFade not working on newly added subviews

    - by David Liu
    For some reason, fading in new buttons using CATransition isn't working for me when it's a newly added button. The fade animation, however, is working on existing subviews. Code: // Add new button. CATransition *animation = [CATransition animation]; [animation setDuration:0.5]; [animation setType:kCATransitionFade]; [[button layer] addAnimation:animation forKey:@"fadeIn"]; [self.view addSubview:button]; // Enable previous button (Enabling fades in different type of background) if(toolbar.buttons.count != 0){ UIButton * prevButton = [toolbar.buttons objectAtIndex:(toolbar.buttons.count - 1)]; prevButton.enabled = YES; [[prevButton layer] addAnimation:animation forKey:@"fadeIn"]; }

  • How to change rowHeight of a TableViewCell depending on Stringlength

    - by Jens Koehler
    I have a table with different entries, each with different length. The height of each row should fit, so it can show the whole string. I use the following code: //... cellForRowAtIndexPath if (row == 0) { cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:@"affCell"]; //if (!cell) { cell = [[[UITableViewCell alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectZero reuseIdentifier:@"affCell"]autorelease]; cell.accessoryType = UITableViewCellAccessoryNone; cell.selectionStyle = UITableViewCellSelectionStyleNone; cell.autoresizingMask = UIViewAutoresizingFlexibleHeight; affL = [[UILabel alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectZero]; affL.textAlignment = UITextAlignmentLeft; affL.autoresizingMask = UIViewAutoresizingFlexibleHeight; [cell.contentView addSubview:affL]; //} //declaration label affL.text = [fDictionary objectForKey:@"aff"]; affL.numberOfLines = 0; [affL sizeToFit]; affL.frame = CGRectMake(15.0, 10.0, 220.0, affL.frame.size.height); CGFloat affLH = affL.frame.size.height; [tableView setRowHeight:affLH+30]; I also use //... heightForRowAtIndexPath return affL.frame.size.height; How can I fix this problem?

  • Unable to load detached NIB in View

    - by Sheehan Alam
    I have two NIB's ParentViewController.xib ChildViewController.xib ParentViewController.xib contains a UIView and a UIViewController. ChildViewController.xib contains a UIButton I want ChildViewController.xib to load in the ParentViewController.xib's UIView I have done the following: Created @property for UIView in ParentViewController Connected File's Owner to UIView in ParentViewController Set UIViewController in ParentViewController's NIB Name property to ChildViewController in Interface Builder Set ChildViewController view property to UIView in ParentViewController I was hoping this would load ChildViewController into my UIView in ParentViewController but no luck. I did get the following warning, which could be the culprit: 'View Controller (Child View)' has both its 'NIB Name' property set and its 'view' outlet connected. This configuration is not supported. I also have added additional code in ParentViewController's viewDidLoad(): - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; ChildViewController *childViewController = [[ChildViewController alloc]initWithNibName:@"ChildViewController" bundle:nil]; childViewController.view = self.myView; } Any thoughts on why ChildViewController does not load in the UIView of ParentViewController?

  • iPhone Options for reading item from XML?

    - by fuzzygoat
    I am accessing this data from a web server using NSURL, what I am trying to decide is should I read this as XML or should I just use NSScanner and rip out the [data] bit I need. I have looked around the web for examples of extracting fields from XML on the iPhone but it all seems a bit overkill for what I need. Can anyone make any suggestions or point me in the right direction. In an ideal world I would really like to just specify [data] and get a string back "2046 3433 5674 3422 4456 8990 1200 5284" <!DOCTYPE tubinerotationdata> <turbine version="1.0"> <status version="1.0" result="200">OK</status> <data version="1.0"> 2046 3433 5674 3422 4456 8990 1200 5284 </data> </turbine> any comments / ideas are much appreciated. gary

If I comment out the line, it works. So that means forState:UIControlStateNormal is defined. I'm new so hope you can help. UIButton * button = [UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeRoundedRect]; [button setTitle:@"Accept?" forState:UIControlStateNormal]; [button addTarget:self action:@selector(acceptTapped) forControlEvents:UIControlTouchUpInside];

  • Loading a Reusable UITableViewCell from a Nib

    - by Greg Martin
    I am able to design custom UITableViewCells and load them just fine using the technique described in the thread found at http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=545061. However, using that method no longer allows you to init the cell with a reuseIdentifier which means you have to create whole new instances of each cell at every call. Has anyone figured out a good way to still cache particular cell types for reuses, but still be able to design them in Interface Builder?
