• Adding Google Map to Contact Info Page in Drupal

- by clang1234
I'm trying to display a Google Map inside a drupal page. The map will only have the business location marker on it, with no need for a user to submitted their own markers. So far I've loaded the Gmap, Location, and CCK modules. I've attempted to enable a location field for Page content types, which allows me to input an address, but this doesn't display the actual map. I'm sure I'm missing something simple here. Any help?

• Why MKMapView region is different than requested?

- by Kamil
Greetings! I'm saving map region into user defaults when my iPhone app is closing like this: MKCoordinateRegion region = mapView.region; [[NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults] setDouble:region.center.latitude forKey:@"map.location.center.latitude"]; [[NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults] setDouble:region.center.longitude forKey:@"map.location.center.longitude"]; [[NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults] setDouble:region.span.latitudeDelta forKey:@"map.location.span.latitude"]; [[NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults] setDouble:region.span.longitudeDelta forKey:@"map.location.span.longitude"]; When app launches again, i read those values back the same way, so that the user can see exactly the same map view as it was last time: MKCoordinateRegion region; region.center.latitude = [[NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults] doubleForKey:@"map.location.center.latitude"]; region.center.longitude = [[NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults] doubleForKey:@"map.location.center.longitude"]; region.span.latitudeDelta = [[NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults] doubleForKey:@"map.location.span.latitude"]; region.span.longitudeDelta = [[NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults] doubleForKey:@"map.location.span.longitude"]; NSLog([NSString stringWithFormat:@"Region read : %f %f %f %f", region.center.latitude, region.center.longitude, region.span.latitudeDelta, region.span.longitudeDelta]); [mapView setRegion:region]; NSLog([NSString stringWithFormat:@"Region on map: %f %f %f %f", mapView.region.center.latitude, mapView.region.center.longitude, mapView.region.span.latitudeDelta, mapView.region.span.longitudeDelta]); The region I read from user defaults is (not surprisingly) exactly the same as when it was saved. Notice that what is saved comes directly from the map, so it's not transformed in any way. I set it back on map with setRegion: method, but then it is different! Example results: Region read : 50.241110 8.891555 0.035683 0.042915 Region on map: 50.241057 8.891544 0.050499 0.054932 Does anybody know why this happens?

• Find the xmlHttpRequest resource in aspx page

- by DJStroky
I'm trying to find an xmlHttpRequest or similar resource that I can query directly to obtain an xml file for my own purposes. At this site it is possible to browse a Google Map mashup with markers. Unfortunately it is only possible to view all markers at a small view range, whereas I simply want to obtain all the information at once for the entire state. Using the firebug console in firefox I can enter the following javascript line to obtain the xml that I desire: document.getElementById("stationXML").value I tracked this document element down to an tag, but I can't figure out how that input is set. Thanks in advance for your help!

• Vertical crosshair reposition on Google Map after map resize Issue

- by joe
I use the following function to add a crosshair to my Google Map. It works great for horizontal resizing. I can not figure out how to make it work for vertical. After resizing the map it requires the user to either zoom in or out 1 layer, upon which the crosshair snaps to center. var crosshairsSize=17; GMap2.prototype.addCrosshairs=function(){ var container=this.getContainer(); if(this.crosshairs){$(this.crosshairs).remove();} var crosshairs=document.createElement("img"); crosshairs.src='../images/crosshair2.gif'; crosshairs.style.width=crosshairsSize+'px'; crosshairs.style.height=crosshairsSize+'px'; crosshairs.style.border='0'; crosshairs.style.position='relative'; crosshairs.style.top=((parseInt(container.clientHeight)-crosshairsSize)/2)+'px'; crosshairs.style.left="0px"; // The map is centered so 0 will do crosshairs.style.zIndex='500'; container.appendChild(crosshairs); this.crosshairs=crosshairs; return crosshairs;}; I use map.checkResize(); and the map is correct, it's just the crosshair that is off. I've tried firing a javascript zoom in one level but it doesn't work like zooming in with the mouse. It's only zooming in/out with the mouse scroll wheel too... clicking and dragging the zoom slider doesn't work so somehow it's liking the mouse scroll wheel. Firing addCrosshairs(); after resize makes no difference. It places the new crosshair in old spot and still requires a mouse scroll zoom.

• jQuery UI + Gmaps = Problems (for me at least) HELP!!

- by Luis
Hi there! I started using jQuery as soon as I found out about it, it is very powerfull but I started struggling when I tried to load Gmaps api into the tabs jQuery UI brings. Strangly enough in IE 6,7,8 it works fine, but in Firefox, Safari (I'm using mac but tested it in windows and they both give the same problems) the map doesn't load entirely. When I click on the tab where the map loads in, only part of the map is fully operational, the rest is grey and not clickable. Please take a look at the link below and click the third tab in firefox/safari and IE and you will see the problem. http://movewithusoverseas.com/index-new.php?z=product-info.html&pid=1 I don't know if it is a bug in the jQuery UI code or I'm doing something wrong. If I load the map out of the tabs the map is shown OK. I'm fighting with this problem for a week and a half... any help will be much appreciated. Thanks in advance. Luis

• How to output KML by GAE

- by Niklas R
Hi I use KML for a google map where entities have a geopt.db coordinate and soft memory limit was exceeded with 213.465 MB after servicing 1 requests total. The log says /list.kml 200 13130ms 10211cpu_ms 4238api_cpu_ms The file list.kml which outputs about 455,7 KB is a template as follows <kml xmlns="http:// www.opengis.net/kml/2.2" xmlns:gx="http://www.google.com/kml/ext/2.2" xmlns:kml="http://www.opengis.net/kml/2.2" xmlns:atom="http:// www.w3.org/2005/Atom"> <Document>{% for a in list %} <Placemark>

{{ a.title }}
{{a.text}}
<Point> <coordinates> {{a.geopt.lon|floatformat:2}},{{a.geopt.lat|floatformat:2}} </coordinates> </Point> </Placemark> {% endfor %} </Document> </kml> Is there a memory leak in the template or the python that passes the list variable? Can I improve using other template engine or other framework than default? Is kmz compression a good idea in this case? Thanks in advance for any suggestion where or how to change the code.

• Performance of map overlay in conjunction with ItemizedOverlay is very poor

- by oviroa
I am trying to display one png (drawable) on a map in about 300 points. I am retrieving the coordinates from a Sqlite table, dumping them in a cursor. When I try to display them by parsing through the cursor, it takes for ever for the images to be drawn, about .5 second per image. I find that to be suspiciously slow, so some insight on how I can increase performance would help. Here is the snippet of my code that does the rendering: while (!mFlavorsCursor.isAfterLast()) { Log.d("cursor",""+(i++)); point = new GeoPoint( (int)(mFlavorsCursor.getFloat(mFlavorsCursor.getColumnIndex(DataBaseHelper.KEY_LATITUDE))*1000000), (int)(mFlavorsCursor.getFloat(mFlavorsCursor.getColumnIndex(DataBaseHelper.KEY_LONGITUDE))*1000000)); overlayitem = new OverlayItem(point, "", ""); itemizedoverlay.addOverlay(overlayitem); itemizedoverlay.doPopulate(); mFlavorsCursor.moveToNext(); } mapOverlays.add(itemizedoverlay); I tried to isolate all the steps and it looks like the slow one is this: itemizedoverlay.doPopulate(); This is a public method in my class that extends ItemizedOverlay that runs the private populate() method.

• Android map overly transparency has unwanted gradient

- by DavidP2190
I'm a making my first android app and for part of it I need some shaded areas over a mapview. I've got this working so far but the when I set the alpha of the fill colour, it goes strange. I'm not allowed to post images yet, but you can see what happens here: http://i.imgur.com/leXmc.png I'm not sure what causes it, but here is some code from where it gets drawn. public boolean draw(Canvas canvas, MapView mapView, boolean shadow, long when) { Paint paint = new Paint(); paint.setStrokeWidth(2); paint.setColor(android.graphics.Color.GREEN); paint.setStyle(Paint.Style.FILL_AND_STROKE); paint.setAlpha(25); screenPoints = new Point[10]; Path path = new Path(); for (int x = 0; x<greenZone.length; x++){ screenPoints[x] = new Point(); mapView.getProjection().toPixels(greenZone[x], screenPoints[x]); } path.moveTo(screenPoints[0].x, screenPoints[0].y); for (int x = 1; x < screenPoints.length-1; x++){ paint.setAlpha(25); if (x<9){ path.lineTo(screenPoints[x].x, screenPoints[x].y); canvas.drawPath(path, paint); } else{ path.moveTo(screenPoints[screenPoints.length-1].x, screenPoints[screenPoints.length-1].y); path.lineTo(screenPoints[0].x, screenPoints[0].y); canvas.drawPath(path, paint); } } return true; } Thanks.

• iPhone: Turning latitude/longitude into "major cross-streets"

- by Gloria
Using the MKReverseGeocoder or GoogleAPI or MapKit... Is there a simple way to turn a latitude/longitude into "nearest major cross-streets"? A user might not have any idea where "12345 Pineapple" is located... so I want to show something like "Pineapple and Main"... or (larger, major roads) like "US-140 and Hwy 76". I don't really care what "major" is defined as... perhaps any road with higher speed limits... or more than 3 lanes... etc. I don't really care what "close by" is defines as... perhaps within 0-10 miles... or just "closest found".

• Given GPS coordinates, how do I find nearby landmarks or points-of-interest?

- by stackoverflowuser2010
I just bought a Google Nexus One smartphone, and I want to write a small Android application for fun. Suppose I can get my current GPS coordinates, so then how can I programmatically find nearby landmarks or points-of-interest within some radius? Is there an API to get GPS geo-tagged landmarks, like in Google Earth's database? For example, if I'm in downtown Chicago, my program would point me to all the "tourist" things to visit in that city. Ideally, it would all run on my smartphone, but if necessary, I can have the smartphone query a webserver, which would then run more queries.

• Easiest way to export longitude and latitude data stored in a SQLite database to a file so it can be

- by LordSnoutimus
Hello, I have created an application that records a series of longitude and latitude values in a SQLite database and display them as a coloured track on a MapActivity. I now want to be able to export this data somehow (preferably to a file) so a user can upload the values to a website showing a Google Map API. My question is: what would be the quickest way to export the data (and in what file format: GPX, XML, CSV) to the SD card located on the Android device. Many thanks.

• Google Map Overlay Icon disappears at certain zoom level

- by Lawrence Teo
I notice that Firefox 3 demonstrates this problem. I put down an overlay icon and play around with the map zoom. At certain zoom level, I found that the icon disappears for some unknown reason. Zooming out brings back the icon. Or during the disappearance, I click on the Google Map and it will somehow trigger to bring back the icon. I suspect it has something to do with the event triggering. Internet Explorer doesn't demonstrate the same problem though. Any advice? Like how to trigger update event on Firefox?

• Need Help with Consolidating RoR Google Map Results

- by Kevin
I have a project that returns geocoded results within 20 miles of the user. I want these results grouped on the map by zip code, then within the info window show the individual results. The code posted below works, but for some reason it only displays the 1.png rather than looking at the results and using the correct .png icon associated with the number. When I look at the infowindows, it displays the correct png like "/images/2.png" or "/images/5.png" but the actual image is always 1. @ziptickets = Ticket.find(:all, :origin => coords, :select => 'DISTINCT zip, lat, lng', :within => @user.distance_to_travel, :conditions => "status_id = 1") for t in @ziptickets zips = Ticket.find(:all, :conditions => ["zip = ?", t.zip]) currentzip = t.zip.to_s tixinzip = zips.size.to_s imagelocation = "/images/" + tixinzip + ".png" shadowlocation = "/images/" + tixinzip + "s.png" @map.icon_global_init(GIcon.new(:image => imagelocation, :shadow => shadowlocation, :shadow_size => GSize.new(60,40), :icon_anchor => GPoint.new(20,20), :info_window_anchor => GPoint.new(9,2)), "test") newicon = Variable.new("test") new_marker = GMarker.new([t.lat, t.lng], :icon => newicon, :title => imagelocation, :info_window => currentzip) @map.overlay_init(new_marker) end I tried changing the last part of the mapicon from: :info_window_anchor => GPoint.new(9,2)), "test") newicon = Variable.new("test") to: :info_window_anchor => GPoint.new(9,2)), currentzip) newicon = Variable.new(currentzip) but the strangest thing is that any string that has numbers in it causes the map to fail to render in the view and just show a blank screen... same if I replace it with :info_window_anchor => GPoint.new(9,2)), "123") newicon = Variable.new("123") Any advice would be helpful... also it runs a bit slower than my previous code which just set up 4 standard icons and used them outside of the loop so any hints as to speed up execution would be appreciated greatly. Thanks!

• How can you make the copyright text in a Google Map wrap when the map is small?

- by Paul D. Waite
When you embed a Google Map on a web page, copyright text is included on the map. This is the HTML:
Map data ©2010 LeadDog Consulting, Europa Technologies - Terms of Use
If you embed a map with a small width, the copyright text extends outside of the
, instead of wrapping within it. I’ve tried using jQuery to select this HTML based on its contents (using :contains()), but it doesn’t seem to work in IE 8 (which is odd, as it works fine in IE 7). Any idea what’s up with IE 8? Any other methods to achieve the same result?

• Bing Map on Windows Phone - add click events to pushpins; display more details

- by Will Gill
I have a WP Phone app using a Bing Map control. I have an array of objects, and each object has a location. I iterate the array to place the pins on the map (see below). I have a touch event bound to each pin to allow the user to tap the pin to start an action. Now - I would like, on tap, to show information from the object that relates to that pin to be shown in a textbox. How can I retrieve the object from the array that corresponds to the pushpin that was tapped/clicked? foreach (wikiResult result in arrayResults) { double lat = double.Parse(result.Latitude, CultureInfo.InvariantCulture); double lng = double.Parse(result.Longitude, CultureInfo.InvariantCulture); statusTextBlock.Text = result.Latitude + " " + result.Longitude + " " + lat + " " + lng; GeoCoordinate d = new GeoCoordinate(lat, lng); Pushpin pin; pin = new Pushpin(); pin.Location = d; pin.Content = result.Name; pin.MouseLeftButtonUp += new MouseButtonEventHandler(pin1_MouseLeftButtonUp); myMap.Children.Add(pin); } void pin1_MouseLeftButtonUp(object sender, MouseButtonEventArgs e) { //display the content from the object in a text box } Many thanks in advance!
