  • Importing into a Exported object with MEF

    - by Nathan W
I'm sorry if this question has already been asked 100 times, but I'm really struggling to get it to work. Say I have have three projects. Core.dll Has common interfaces Shell.exe Loads all modules in assembly folder. References Core.dll ModuleA.dll Exports Name, Version of module. References Core.dll Shell.exe has a [Export] that contains an single instance of a third party application that I need to inject into all loaded modules. So far the code that I have in Shell.exe is: static void Main(string[] args) { ThirdPartyApp map = new ThirdPartyApp(); var ad = new AssemblyCatalog(Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly()); var dircatalog = new DirectoryCatalog("."); var a = new AggregateCatalog(dircatalog, ad); // Not to sure what to do here. } class Test { [Export(typeof(ThirdPartyApp))] public ThirdPartyApp Instance { get; set; } [Import(typeof(IModule))] public IModule Module { get; set; } } I need to create a instance of Test, and load Instance with map from the Main method then load the Module from ModuleA.dll that is in the executing directory then [Import] Instance into the loaded module. In ModuleA I have a class like this: [Export(IModule)] class Module : IModule { [Import(ThirdPartyApp)] public ThirdPartyApp Instance {get;set;} } I know I'm half way there I just don't know how to put it all together, mainly with loading up test with a instance of map from Main. Could anyone help me with this.

  • How many layers is too many?

    - by Nathan
As I have been learning about software development the last 2 years the more I learn, it seems the more gray areas I am running into. One gray area I have issues with right now is trying to decide how many layers an application should have. For example, in a WPF MVVM application what fashion of layering is ok? Is the following too separated? When I mention layering I mean creating a new class library for each layer. Presentation (View) View Model Business Layer Data Access Model Layer Utility Layer Or for a non MVVM application is this too separated? Presenation Business Data Access Model Layer Utility Layer Is acceptable to run layers together and just create folders for each layer? Any coloring of this gray area would be appreciated.

  • What are the best authentication and authorization examples for your favorite web framework?

    - by Nathan Feger
I have been looking through java web frameworks lately (though this question need not be limited to java), and I noticed that most examples on web framework websites leave out auth & auth examples in their stock documentation. one ruby example: acts_as_authenticated (link?) grails has: http://www.grails.org/Authentication+Plugin Anyway, please throw up some links to your framework of choice, and a link to a nice walkthrough to implementing an auth&auth solution.

  • ViewPager and Fragment Pager adapter implementation

    - by Rohit Deshmukh
    So I am trying to implement sliding views/fragments using viewpager and fragment pager adapter. convert_home is my main xml file that has android.support.v4.view.PagerTitleStrip and temperature.xml and velocity.xml are my two other views. I have no clue where I am going wrong. package app.converto; import android.os.Bundle; import android.support.v4.app.Fragment; import android.support.v4.app.FragmentActivity; import android.support.v4.app.FragmentManager; import android.support.v4.app.FragmentPagerAdapter; import android.support.v4.view.ViewPager; import android.view.LayoutInflater; import android.view.Menu; import android.view.View; import android.view.ViewGroup; import android.widget.TextView; public class ConverTo extends FragmentActivity { SectionsPagerAdapter mSectionsPagerAdapter; ViewPager mViewPager; @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); mSectionsPagerAdapter = new SectionsPagerAdapter(getSupportFragmentManager()); mViewPager.setAdapter(mSectionsPagerAdapter); setContentView(R.layout.converto_home); mViewPager = (ViewPager) findViewById(R.id.pager); } @Override public boolean onCreateOptionsMenu(Menu menu) { getMenuInflater().inflate(R.menu.converto_home, menu); return true; } public class SectionsPagerAdapter extends FragmentPagerAdapter { public SectionsPagerAdapter(FragmentManager fm) { super(fm); } @Override public Fragment getItem(int i) { switch(i){ case 0: Fragment1 fragment = new Fragment1(); return fragment; case 1: Fragment2 fragment2 = new Fragment2(); return fragment2; } defaultFragment fragment3 = new defaultFragment(); return fragment3; } @Override public int getCount() { return 2; } // // @Override // public CharSequence getPageTitle(int position) { // switch (position) { // case 0: return getString(R.string.velocity); // case 1: return getString(R.string.temperature); // case 2: return getString(R.string.distance); // } // return null; // } } public static class Fragment1 extends Fragment{ public Fragment1(){ } @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); } @Override public View onCreateView(LayoutInflater inflater, ViewGroup container, Bundle savedInstanceState) { //return inflater.inflate(R.layout.temperature, container, false); View view = inflater.inflate(R.layout.temperature, container, false); TextView textView = (TextView) view.findViewById(R.id.sample); textView.setText(getArguments().getString("title")); return view; } } public static class Fragment2 extends Fragment{ public Fragment2(){ } @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); } @Override public View onCreateView(LayoutInflater inflater, ViewGroup container, Bundle savedInstanceState) { //return inflater.inflate(R.layout.velocity, container, false); View view = inflater.inflate(R.layout.temperature, container, false); TextView textView = (TextView) view.findViewById(R.id.sample); textView.setText(getArguments().getString("title")); return view; } } public static class defaultFragment extends Fragment{ public defaultFragment(){ }//end constructor @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); } @Override public View onCreateView(LayoutInflater inflater, ViewGroup container, Bundle savedInstanceState) { // return inflater.inflate(R.layout.temperature, container, false); View view = inflater.inflate(R.layout.temperature, container, false); TextView textView = (TextView) view.findViewById(R.id.sample); textView.setText(getArguments().getString("title")); return view; }//end oncreate }//end default fragment }

  • Problems sorting by date

    - by Nathan
    I'm attempting to only display data added to my database 24 hours ago or less. However, for some reason, the code I've written isn't working, and both entries in my database, one from 1 hour ago, one from 2 days ago, show up. Is there something wrong with my equation? Thanks! public void UpdateValues() { double TotalCost = 0; double TotalEarned = 0; double TotalProfit = 0; double TotalHST = 0; for (int i = 0; i <= Program.TransactionList.Count - 1; i++) { DateTime Today = DateTime.Now; DateTime Jan2013 = DateTime.Parse("01-01-2013"); //Hours since Jan12013 int TodayHoursSince2013 = Convert.ToInt32(Math.Round(Today.Subtract(Jan2013).TotalHours)); //7 int ItemHoursSince2013 = Program.TransactionList[i].HoursSince2013; //Equals 7176, and 7130 if (ItemHoursSince2013 - TodayHoursSince2013 <= 24) { TotalCost += Program.TransactionList[i].TotalCost; TotalEarned += Program.TransactionList[i].TotalEarned; TotalProfit += Program.TransactionList[i].TotalEarned - Program.TransactionList[i].TotalCost; TotalHST += Program.TransactionList[i].TotalHST; } } label6.Text = "$" + String.Format("{0:0.00}", TotalCost); label7.Text = "$" + String.Format("{0:0.00}", TotalEarned); label8.Text = "$" + String.Format("{0:0.00}", TotalProfit); label10.Text = "$" + String.Format("{0:0.00}", TotalHST); }

  • Data Warehouse Workshop

    - by Davide Mauri
I’m really really pleased to announce that it’s possible to register to the Data Warehouse Workshop that I and Thomas Kejser developed togheter.  Several months ago we decided to join forces in order to create a workshop that would contain not only the theoretical stuff, but also the experience we both have and all the best practices and lesson learned that can make the difference between a success and a failure when building a Data Warehouse. The first sheduled date is 7 February in Kista (Sweden): http://www.eventzilla.net/web/event?eventid=2138965081 and until 30th November there is the Super Early Bird to save more the 100€ (150$). The workshop will be very similar to the one I delivered at PASS Summit summit, with some extra technical stuff since it’s one hour longer. In addition to that for this first version both me and Thomas will be present, so it’s a great change  to make sure you super-charge your DW/BI project with insights that aren’t available anywhere else! If you’re into the BI field and you live in Europe, don’t miss this opportunity!

  • Attachment_fu: can't disable :partition option

    - by Nathan Long
I'm trying to use the Attachment_Fu plugin in a Rails project, and want to customize the paths where uploaded files are saved. The documentation shows this option: :partition # Whether to partiton files in directories like /0000/0001/image.jpg. Default is true. (The 0001 part is an ID from a table.) I don't want that, so I set the partition option to false, like so: class Photo < ActiveRecord::Base has_attachment :content_type => :image, :storage => :file_system, :max_size => 500.kilobytes, :resize_to => '320x200', :thumbnails => {:thumb => '100x100>' }, :partition => false validates_as_attachment end ...but the :partition => false option has no effect. Has anybody else encountered this problem? How did you fix it?

  • DataSet.HasChanges is true even immediately after TableAdapter.Update is run

    - by Nathan Koop
I've got some legacy dataset code which I'm updating. I'm attempting to determine if the dataset has changes to it so I can properly prompt for a save request. However myDataset.HasChanges() always returns true. In my save method I've edited the code to determine when the dataset get's changes and made the code like this: 1. myBindingSource.EndEdit() 2. myTableAdapter.Update(myDataSet) 3. myBindingSource.EndEdit() After line 1, - myDataSet.HasChanges = true (understandable) After line 2, - myDataSet.HasChanges = false (understandable) After line 3, - myDataSet.HasChanges = true I'm unsure of why this would occur in line 3, shouldn't this be false because I just ran the updates on the dataset?

  • Computer won't reboot without waiting for a while

    - by Benjamin
I've got an unusual problem with my computer. When ever I reboot my computer it won't boot, I get a few beeps from the BIOS and nothing else, however if I wait for a few minuets the computer will boot perfectly. I tried to count the beeps and I get around 7-9 of them; the first two are noticeably closer together than the rest. [Edit: I'm now reasonably confident it's 1 long followed by 8 short beeps. That would be a display related issue: http://www.bioscentral.com/beepcodes/amibeep.htm] My BIOS is American Megatrends Inc and version P1.80, the Motherboard is an ASRock X58 Extreme (both according to dmidecode) Here's an output from LSPCI, I'm not sure what else might be useful but I can provide whatever's asked. 00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation 5520/5500/X58 I/O Hub to ESI Port (rev 13) 00:01.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 5520/5500/X58 I/O Hub PCI Express Root Port 1 (rev 13) 00:03.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 5520/5500/X58 I/O Hub PCI Express Root Port 3 (rev 13) 00:07.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 5520/5500/X58 I/O Hub PCI Express Root Port 7 (rev 13) 00:14.0 PIC: Intel Corporation 5520/5500/X58 I/O Hub System Management Registers (rev 13) 00:14.1 PIC: Intel Corporation 5520/5500/X58 I/O Hub GPIO and Scratch Pad Registers (rev 13) 00:14.2 PIC: Intel Corporation 5520/5500/X58 I/O Hub Control Status and RAS Registers (rev 13) 00:14.3 PIC: Intel Corporation 5520/5500/X58 I/O Hub Throttle Registers (rev 13) 00:1a.0 USB controller: Intel Corporation 82801JI (ICH10 Family) USB UHCI Controller #4 00:1a.1 USB controller: Intel Corporation 82801JI (ICH10 Family) USB UHCI Controller #5 00:1a.2 USB controller: Intel Corporation 82801JI (ICH10 Family) USB UHCI Controller #6 00:1a.7 USB controller: Intel Corporation 82801JI (ICH10 Family) USB2 EHCI Controller #2 00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801JI (ICH10 Family) HD Audio Controller 00:1c.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 82801JI (ICH10 Family) PCI Express Root Port 1 00:1c.1 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 82801JI (ICH10 Family) PCI Express Port 2 00:1c.5 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 82801JI (ICH10 Family) PCI Express Root Port 6 00:1d.0 USB controller: Intel Corporation 82801JI (ICH10 Family) USB UHCI Controller #1 00:1d.1 USB controller: Intel Corporation 82801JI (ICH10 Family) USB UHCI Controller #2 00:1d.2 USB controller: Intel Corporation 82801JI (ICH10 Family) USB UHCI Controller #3 00:1d.7 USB controller: Intel Corporation 82801JI (ICH10 Family) USB2 EHCI Controller #1 00:1e.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 82801 PCI Bridge (rev 90) 00:1f.0 ISA bridge: Intel Corporation 82801JIR (ICH10R) LPC Interface Controller 00:1f.2 SATA controller: Intel Corporation 82801JI (ICH10 Family) SATA AHCI Controller 00:1f.3 SMBus: Intel Corporation 82801JI (ICH10 Family) SMBus Controller 01:00.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. • Is it possible to get last modified date from an assets file?

    - by Nathan Fig
Hi, all Bizarre question: is it possible to get the last modified date of a file in the assets folder, or would that be pointless and impossible? I ask because I'm copying a read-only database out of there into the data folder on application start up, but would rather only perform the copy if the existing file is older than the one stored in the assets folder (or if the file doesn't exist). If that's not possible, anyone know of a better convention? I can post that in a separate question if needed. TIA!

  • How to have comments from FB app in website appear on the websites fb fanpage?

    - by Nathan Jon Grant
I m a graphic designer and have created a website in Joomla that uses a "lightbox" (ignite gallery) plugin to view images from the site. I have created a facebook 'website' app that allows for comments to be posted via facebook in the lightbox (also a like button) - all of which are really just options that you allow in the ignite gallery options. Everything seems to work fine, I can comment and it will appear under the photo in the lightbox, as I asked it too, it also sends a copy of the comment to the commenter's facebook page with links. How do I also get the comments from the website (lightbox plugin) to also appear on the clients "fan page" that already exists?? Much appreciate any help..

  • Given a Member Access lambda expression, convert it to a specific string representation with full ac

    - by Nathan
Given an Expression<Func<T, object>> (e.g. x = x.Prop1.SubProp), I want to create a string "Prop1.SubProp" for as deep as necessary. In the case of a single access (e.g. x = x.Prop1), I can easily do this with: MemberExpression body = (expression.Body.NodeType == ExpressionType.Convert) ? (MemberExpression)((UnaryExpression)expression.Body).Operand : (MemberExpression)expression.Body; return body.Member.Name; However, if there is deeper nesting, e.g. x = x.Prop1.SubProp1, this only gets the most deeply nested name, e.g. "SubProp1" instead of "Prop1.SubProp1" Is there anyway to access the full property path of a lambda expression?

  • How can I check that I didn't break anything when refactoring?

    - by Nathan Fellman
I'm about to embark on a bout of refactoring of some functions in my code. I have a nice amount of unit tests that will ensure I didn't break anything, but I'm not sure about the coverage they give me. Are there any tools that can analyze the code and see that the functionality remains the same? I plan to refactor some rather isolated code, so I don't need to check the entire program, just the areas that I'm working on. For context, the code I'm working on is in C/C++, and I work in Linux with GCC and VIM.

  • Using VirtualMode on a DataGridView when the number of rows/columns isn't known

    - by Nathan Baulch
I need to display an unknown length sequence of dictionaries with unknown keys efficiently in a data grid. This sequence is the result of a potentially slow LINQ query that could contain any number of results. At first I thought that VirtualMode on DataGridView was what I was looking for but it appears that the number of rows and columns must be known upfront. I tried adding a single row and column then adding more as needed from the CellValueNeeded event but this doesn't work. Is this even possible with VirtualMode? Or do I need to estimate how many rows are visible on the screen and manually build up the rows/columns? And if so, how do I ensure that a vertical scrollbar is present and react appropriately when a user uses it?

  • node.js and jsdom - no way to detect that an http 500 error was returned?

    - by Nathan Ridley
I'm using jsdom with node.js and I'm trying to get it to provide me with some indication that an http error has occurred. I've set up a test server that simply returns an http 500 header for all requests, but when I attempt to load it with jsdom, jsdom doesn't throw any error and doesn't seem to provide me with any information that would identify that an http 500 error was returned. What's the best way to detect an http 500 error?

  • Can getters and setters be inlined when definition and declaration are seperated in .h and .cpp files?

    - by Nathan
I have searched and have been unable to verify how the GCC compiler will handle inlining getters and setters when declaration is in .h file and definition is in .cpp file. Most seem to say that GCC can't see across these source file barriers and won't be able to inline these at all, while others disagree. I have looked at the documentation and I can't find the answer there either. Did I miss it? I do realize that inlining is a choice made by the compiler and is not always guaranteed, but assuming optimal situations, is it at least possible?

  • making an array controller the target of a button

    - by ian
I am working through a chapter of COCOA PROGRAMMING FOR MAC OS X (3RD EDITION) on NSArrayController and it tells me to: Control-Drag to make the array controller become the target of the Add New Employee button. Set the action to add: However when I drag over the array controller it does not highlight so I get no target options. How do I do this correctly in the new XCode full size image document.h: // // Document.h // RaiseMan // // Created by user on 11/12/11. // Copyright (c) 2011 __MyCompanyName__.
