  • Is there an easy way to convert C# classes to PHP?

    - by John
I am used to writing C# Windows application. However I have some free hosted PHP web space that I would like to make use of. I have a basic understanding of PHP but have never used it's object oriented capabilities. Is there an easy way to convert C# classes to PHP classes or is it just not possible to write a fully object oriented application in PHP? Update: There are no reliance on the .NET framework beyond the basics. The main aim would be to restructure the class properties, variable enums, etc. The PHP will be hosted on a Linux server.

  • Puzzled with nib files...

    - by Michael
I know nib files are serialized objects and they have owner, outlets to make connections. Using XCode Navigation window template I created application, which in its order created 2 nib files - MainWindow and SecondView. I can't understand how MainWindow is referring to SecondView, there is no connection between those two as far as I can see. SecondView's owner is UIViewController and in MainWindow there is a navigation tab which is also UIViewController. But how they are connected in IB I can't understand... Also I don't understand who is instanciating MainWindow's owner object and where that object is being kept, where is the variable which is UIApplication myApp = [[UIApplication alloc] init]. If I create 10 nib files with UIViewController owner, who will trigger their deserialization? If some class is nib file's owner, what is the essential responsibilities of that class? Is it deserializing nib file into memory? Sorry for unorganized questions, I've been reading numerous articles and docs about nib files, but it is still confusing.

  • Cast an instance of a class to a @protocol in Objective-C

    - by Ford
    I have an object (a UIViewController) which may or may not conform to a protocol I've defined. I know I can determine if the object conforms to the protocol, then safely call the method: if([self.myViewController conformsToProtocol:@protocol(MyProtocol)]) { [self.myViewController protocolMethod]; // <-- warning here } However, XCode shows a warning: warning 'UIViewController' may not respond to '-protocolMethod' What's the right way to prevent this warning? I can't seem to cast self.myViewController as a MyProtocol class. Update Andy's answer below is close, but includes an unneccesary '*'. The following works: [(id<MyProtocol>)self.myViewController protocolMethod];

  • VB.NET, make a function with return type generic ?

    - by Quandary
Currently I have written a function to deserialize XML as seen below. How do I change it so I don't have to replace the type every time I want to serialize another object type ? The current object type is cToolConfig. How do I make this function generic ? Public Shared Function DeserializeFromXML(ByRef strFileNameAndPath As String) As XMLhandler.XMLserialization.cToolConfig Dim deserializer As New System.Xml.Serialization.XmlSerializer(GetType(cToolConfig)) Dim srEncodingReader As IO.StreamReader = New IO.StreamReader(strFileNameAndPath, System.Text.Encoding.UTF8) Dim ThisFacility As cToolConfig ThisFacility = DirectCast(deserializer.Deserialize(srEncodingReader), cToolConfig) srEncodingReader.Close() srEncodingReader.Dispose() Return ThisFacility End Function Public Shared Function DeserializeFromXML1(ByRef strFileNameAndPath As String) As System.Collections.Generic.List(Of XMLhandler.XMLserialization.cToolConfig) Dim deserializer As New System.Xml.Serialization.XmlSerializer(GetType(System.Collections.Generic.List(Of cToolConfig))) Dim srEncodingReader As IO.StreamReader = New IO.StreamReader(strFileNameAndPath, System.Text.Encoding.UTF8) Dim FacilityList As System.Collections.Generic.List(Of cToolConfig) FacilityList = DirectCast(deserializer.Deserialize(srEncodingReader), System.Collections.Generic.List(Of cToolConfig)) srEncodingReader.Close() srEncodingReader.Dispose() Return FacilityList End Function

  • F# Interactive bug?

    - by John Reynolds
I've tried the following code in VS2010: open System.Security.Cryptography let rsaTest1 = let ecKey = [|0uy..143uy|] // junk data for testing let ecKeyMod = ecKey.[8..8+128-1] let ecKeyExp = ecKey.[136..136+8-1] let rsa = RSAParameters(Modulus = ecKeyMod, Exponent = ecKeyExp) rsa let rsaTest2 = let ecKey = [|0uy..143uy|] // junk data for testing let rsa = RSAParameters(Modulus = ecKey.[8..8+128-1], Exponent = ecKey.[136..136+8-1]) rsa If I highlight all code and send it to F# Interactive (Alt+Enter), then rsaTest1 works, but rsaTest2 gives an error message, System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. at <StartupCode$FSI_0004>.$FSI_0004.main@() in P:\proj\Tachograph\Project\CompuTachTest\CompuTachTest\rsaTest.fsx:line 16 However, if I change rsaTest2 from a value into a function and call it, let rsaTest2 () = let ecKey = [|0uy..143uy|] // junk data for testing let rsa = RSAParameters(Modulus = ecKey.[8..8+128-1], Exponent = ecKey.[136..136+8-1]) rsa let x = rsaTest2 () then there is no error. F# bug or my mistake?

  • Is it possible to destroy a CDI scope?

    - by Matt Ball
I'm working on a Java EE application, primarily JAX-RS with a JSF admin console, that uses CDI/Weld for dependency injection with @ApplicationScoped objects. Minor debugging issues aside, CDI has worked beautifully for this project. Now I need some very coarse-grained control over CDI-injected object lifecycles. I need the ability to: Remove an injected object from the application context, or Destroy/delete/clear/reset/remove the entire application context, or Define my own @ScopeType and implementing Context in which I could provide methods to perform one of the two above tasks. I'm fully aware that this is across, if not against, the grain of CDI and dependency injection in general. I just want to know Is this remotely possible? If yes, what is the easiest/simplest/quickest/foolproofiest way to get the job done?

  • Are there any nasty side affects if i lock the HttpContext.Current.Cache.Insert method

    - by Ekk
    Apart from blocking other threads reading from the cache what other problems should I be thinking about when locking the cache insert method for a public facing website. The actual data retrieval and insert into the cache should take no more than 1 second, which we can live with. More importantly i don't want multiple thread potentially all hitting the Insert method at the same time. The sample code looks something like: public static readonly object _syncRoot = new object(); if (HttpContext.Current.Cache["key"] == null) { lock (_syncRoot) { HttpContext.Current.Cache.Insert("key", "DATA", null, DateTime.Now.AddMinutes(5), Cache.NoSlidingExpiration, CacheItemPriority.Normal, null); } } Response.Write(HttpContext.Current.Cache["key"]);

  • iPhone CoreData: How can I track/observe all changes within a subgraph?

    - by D Carney
I have a NSManagedObjectContext in which I have a number of subclasses of NSManagedObjects such that some are containers for others. What I'd like to do is watch a top-level object to be notified of any changes to any of its properties, associations, or the properties/associations of any of the objects it contains. Using the context's 'hasChanges' doesn't give me enough granularity. The objects 'isUpdated' method only applies to the given object (and not anything in its associations). Is there a convenient (perhaps, KVO-based) was I can observe changes in a context that are limited to a subgraph?

  • C# NotifyIcon behaviour on Windows 7 with MouseClick, MouseDoubleClick events

    - by binball
Hi, I have strange behaviour with my app after run it on Windows 7. It's connected with NotifyIcon while app is minimized. What should happens: 1) Click once on icon with mouse left button then Balloon with some text should appears 2) Double click on icon will show again app window On Windows 7 MouseDoubleClick is also fired but window is not showing. I don't know why. The same code works good on Windows XP. private void notifyIcon_MouseClick(object sender, MouseEventArgs e) { if (e.Button == MouseButtons.Left) { this.NotifyIconShowBalloonWithData(); } } private void notifyIcon_MouseDoubleClick(object sender, MouseEventArgs e) { this.Show(); WindowState = FormWindowState.Normal; notifyIcon.Visible = false; } What did I wrong? :) Thanks in advance for your answer.

  • GWT : Type of Container

    - by moorsu
I see that there are two ways of transferring objects from server to client Use the same domain object (Contact.java) as used in the service layer. (I do not use hibernate) Use the HashMap to send the domain object field values in the form of Map with the help of BeanUtilsBean class. For multiple objects, use the List. Similary, use the Map to submit form values from client to server Is there any performance advantage for option 1 over 2?. Is there a way to hide the classname/package name that is sent to the browser if we use option 1?. thanks!.

  • Ruby: "do this task eventually"

    - by marienbad
I hope this question is clear enough -- if not let me know :) What API would I use when I want to write a procedure at runtime and then just run it eventually at low priority while continuing to do the important stuff right now? Example: link checker 1. I write a blog post with links represented by Link objects. I publish the post. 2. Eventually (at very low priority) the system gets around to fetching the URL of each Link object to make sure it's not broken and indicates that in a property of the Link object. 3. When a user visits my blog post, the render code that turns Link objects into HTML knows whether the links have been checked. I'm assuming there's a very general purpose API for doing this kind of "eventually/low priority" stuff.

  • How to invoke a delegate with a null parameter?

    - by Rodney Burton
I get a null exception if I try to pass a null parameter to a delegate during an invoke. Here's what the code looks like: public void RequestPhoto() { WCF.Service.BeginGetUserPhoto(Contact.UserID, new AsyncCallback(RequestPhotoCB), null); } public void RequestPhotoCB(IAsyncResult result) { var photo = WCF.Service.EndGetUserPhoto(result); UpdatePhoto(photo); } public delegate void UpdatePhotoDelegate(Binary photo); public void UpdatePhoto(Binary photo) { if (InvokeRequired) { var d = new UpdatePhotoDelegate(UpdatePhoto); Invoke(d, new object[] { photo }); } else { var ms = new MemoryStream(photo.ToArray()); var bmp = new Bitmap(ms); pbPhoto.BackgroundImage = bmp; } } The problem is with the line: Invoke(d, new object[] { photo }); If the variable "photo" is null. What is the correct way to pass a null parameter during an invoke? Thanks!

  • Iterate through a VB6 Dictionary

    - by Dinah
I'm a non-VB6 person who had the misfortune of inheriting a buggy legacy VB6/Classic ASP project. There's a section where a lot of entries are put into a Dictionary and I want to see all it contains. I tried this (oParams is a Dictionary): Dim o As Object Dim sDicTempAggr As String sDicTempAggr = "" For Each o In oParams sDicTempAggr = sDicTempAggr & ", " & o Next Which returned: Object doesn't support this property or method : 438 Using Option Explicit, how do I iterate through a VB6 Dictionary to find out everything it contains?

  • Painting to Form then to Printer

    - by jp2code
I often find myself needing to create custom reports that do NOT work with Crystal Reports or Report Viewer. Often, I hack a DataTable together and dumping that into a DataGridView control. It is never pretty, and printing is difficult. What I need is a class that I can call using the OnPaint event, but I've never sat down and written all of the Pen and Brush commands until now. Painting to the screen and painting to a printer both use the Graphics object, so I want to build a class that I'd pass in the Graphics object, my window bounds (a Rectangle), and some data (in the form of an instance of my class) that I'd use to paint a form or a sheet of paper. That sounds like a great concept! Surely, someone has done something like this before. Does anyone know of a book, a website tutorial, or video that goes into this? If someone wants to write all that out for me here, more power to you - but I'd think that would be too much work.

  • Managing EntityConnection lifetime

    - by kervin
There have been many question on managing EntityContext lifetime, e.g. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/813457/instantiating-a-context-in-linq-to-entities I've come to the conclusion that the entity context should be considered a unit-of-work and therefore not reused. Great. But while doing some research for speeding up my database access, I ran into this blog post... Improving Entity Framework Performance The post argues that EFs poor performance compared to other frameworks is often due to the EntityConnection object being created each time a new EntityContext object is needed. To test this I manually created a static EntityConnection in Global.asax.cs Application_Start(). I then converted all my context using statements to using( MyObjContext currContext = new MyObjeContext(globalStaticEFConnection) { .... } This seems to have sped things up a bit without any errors so far as far as I can tell. But is this safe? Does using a applicationwide static EntityConnection introduce race conditions? Best regards, Kervin

  • How to deal with databases for websites written in Java, more specifically Wicket?

    - by John
Hi there. I'm new to website development using Java but I've got started with Wicket and make a little website. I'd like to expand on what I've already made (a website with a form, labels and links) and implement database connectivity. I've looked at a couple of examples, in example Mystic Paste, and I see that they're using Hibernate and Spring. I've never touched Hibernate or Spring before and to be honest the heavy use of annotations scare me a little bit as I haven't really made use of them before, with the exception of supressing warnings and overriding. At this point I have one Connection object which I set up in the WebApplication class upon initialization. I then retrieve this connection object whenever I need to perform queries. I don't know if this is a bad approach or not for a production web application. All help is greatly appreciated.

  • Changing MSSQL Database sorting

    - by plaisthos
I have a request to change the collation of a MS SQL Database: ALTER DATABASE solarwind95 collate SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS but I get this strange error: Meldung 5075, Ebene 16, Status 1, Zeile 1 Das 'Spalte'-Objekt 'CustomPollerAssignment. Sorry for the german errror message. I do not know how to switch the language to english, but here is a translation: Translation: Message 5075, Layer 16, Status 1, Row 1 The 'column' object 'CustomPollerAssignment.PollerID' depends on 'Database sorting. The database sorting cannot be changed if a schema bound object depends on it. Remove the dependency of the database sortieren and retry. I got a ton more of the errors like that.

  • Does Ruby on Rails "has_many" array provide data on a "need to know" basis?

    - by Jian Lin
On Ruby on Rails, say, if the Actor model object is Tom Hanks, and the "has_many" fans is 20,000 Fan objects, then actor.fans gives an Array with 20,000 elements. Probably, the elements are not pre-populated with values? Otherwise, getting each Actor object from the DB can be extremely time consuming. So it is on a "need to know" basis? So does it pull data when I access actor.fans[500], and pull data when I access actor.fans[0]? If it jumps from each record to record, then it won't be able to optimize performance by doing sequential read, which can be faster on the hard disk because those records could be in the nearby sector / platter layer -- for example, if the program touches 2 random elements, then it will be faster just to read those 2 records, but what if it touches all elements in random order, then it may be faster just to read all records in a sequential way, and then process the random elements. But how will RoR know whether I am doing only a few random elements or all elements in random?

  • Python try/except: Showing the cause of the error after displaying my variables

    - by NealWalters
I'm not even sure what the right words are to search for. I want to display parts of the error object in an except block (similar to the err object in VBScript, which has Err.Number and Err.Description). For example, I want to show the values of my variables, then show the exact error. Clearly, I am causing a divided-by-zero error below, but how can I print that fact? try: x = 0 y = 1 z = y / x z = z + 1 print "z=%d" % (z) except: print "Values at Exception: x=%d y=%d " % (x,y) print "The error was on line ..." print "The reason for the error was ..."

  • Should I use the ref or out keyword here?

    - by Blankman
I have an object that may be null, which I will pass to a method that will set its properties. So my code looks like: User user = null; // may or may not be null at this point. SetUserProperties(user); UpdateUser(user); public void SetUserProperties(User user) { if(user == null) user = new User(); user.Firstname = "blah"; .... } So I am updating the same object I pass into SetUserProperties. Should I use the 'ref' keyword in my method SetUserProperties?

  • Where would you document standardized complex data that is passed between many objects and methods?

    - by Eli
Hi All, I often find myself with fairly complex data that represents something that my objects will be working on. For example, in a task-list app, several objects might work with an array of tasks, each of which has attributes, temporal expressions, sub tasks and sub sub tasks, etc. One object will collect data from web forms, standardize it into a format consumable by the class that will save them to the database, another object will pull them from the database, put them in the standard format and pass them to the display object, or the update object, etc. The data itself can become a fairly complex series of arrays and sub arrays, representing a 'task' or list of tasks. For example, the below might be one entry in a task list, in the format that is consumable by the various objects that will work on it. Normally, I just document this in a file somewhere with an example. However, I am thinking about the best way to add it to something like PHPDoc, or another standard doc system. Where would you document your consumable data formats that are for many or all of the objects / methods in your app? Array ( [Meta] => Array ( //etc. ) [Sched] => Array ( [SchedID] => 32 [OwnerID] => 2 [StatusID] => 1 [DateFirstTask] => 2011-02-28 [DateLastTask] => [MarginMonths] => 3 ) [TemporalExpressions] => Array ( [0] => Array ( [type] => dw [TemporalExpID] => 3 [ord] => 2 [day] => 6 [month] => 4 ) [1] => Array ( [type] => dm [TemporalExpID] => 32 [day] => 28 [month] => 2 ) ) [Task] => Array ( [SchedTaskID] => 32 [SchedID] => 32 [OwnerID] => 2 [UserID] => 5 [ClientID] => 9 [Title] => Close Prior Year [Body] => [DueTime] => ) [SubTasks] => Array ( [101] => Array ( [SchedSubTaskID] => 101 [ParentST] => [RootT] => 32 [UserID] => 2 [Title] => Review Profit and Loss by Class [Body] => [DueDiff] => 0 ) [102] => Array ( [SchedSubTaskID] => 102 [ParentST] => [RootT] => 32 [UserID] => 2 [Title] => Review Balance Sheet [Body] => [DueDiff] => 0 ) [103] => Array ( [SchedSubTaskID] => 103 [ParentST] => [RootT] => 32 [UserID] => 2 [Title] => Review Current Year for Prior Year Expenses to Accrue [Body] => Look at Journal Entries that are templates as well. • View bound to paged collection view not updating all of the time.

    - by Thomas
I new to silverlight and trying to make a business application using the mvvm pattern and ria services. I have a view model class that contains a PagedCollectoinView and it is set to the item source of a datagrid. Things seem to be delayed one edit. Below is a summarized example of my xaml and code behind.
