  • "Hide file names" for all files? Windows 7

    So, I just discovered that you can hide the filenames of pictures and videos when you are in a thumbnail view in explorer (via View - Hide file names)... but often I have other files mixed in. This causes the thumbnails to be all spaced out. How can I hide all file names (maybe folders too)?

  • Is there a way to make Windows 8 delay loading the start screen until all startup programs have loaded?

    Currently Windows 8 will get to the start screen a good 10-15 seconds before my startup programs have loaded. Since these include my touchpad driver as well as a gamma correction program, I would prefer that they would load before this point. Is there anyway to do this - either by delaying Windows 8 showing the start screen, or perhaps by somehow having these programs run before reaching the login screen?

    I have a Win7-64 with Home Premium. Recently I installed Torchlight via Steam on my PC and tried to keep the shortcut in my Games Folder. Instead, it make a blank icon (as in, default application icon) which doesn't launch the game and un-removable. Can anyone tell me how to get rid of the icon?

  • Full Control Over CD/DVD burning

    Suppose I want to burn just the 6000th byte(if thats not possible say the 10th sector) on a CDR without touching anyother region. Sounds possible but is there any tool to accomplish this. Yeah sure, there may be no clear point doing this but is this possible technically?. (Doesnt matter maintaining the CDFS, integrity or whatever standard here. Just the task.) It would be great to know if there are any software regarding this.

I've been told by the Powers That Be that they shalt not allow any more switches on their network, any tie-ins must be via a hub. Does anyone know how to implement such a solution? I'm open to Windows and non-windows solutions, free and proprietary.

    Pretty much all the text that I have read on enabling Hindi (Complex Text Rendering) involve enabling it via Regional Settings Languages Install files for complex script support and left to right languages (including Thai). However, I am able to read Wikipedia without having this feature enabled. Is this normal or is this an anomaly with my Win XP SP1 CD?

I've got ~100 PCs, some servers and see three ways to assign IPs: Static IPs for every PC/server Static IP reservation by MAC-address in DHCP Dynamic IPs via DHCP. Of course, you can combine them, i.e. dynamic for PCs, static for servers. But, again, what is the best way? How do you do that?

  • Why would my VPN connection work better than my direct connection?

    I have a new Windows 7 64bit laptop, which connects wirelessly to a ASDL router/modem. With my regular connection, page requests often time out - usually with form submissions. When I use the same connection to connect to a VPN (using OpenVPN) the requests seem to work fine. These are not requests to sites that are only available via the VPN - just regular websites I think this is specific to this new laptop (provided and set up by my employer) - other machines work fine.   • How can I force mail clients like Outlook or Thunderbird to load SSL images with invalid certificate?

    Essentially, we only encounter this issue with our testing environments, where we send mail that contains HTTPS links that point to test servers with self-signed SSL certificates. In a browser I can select to accept the certificate. Is there something similar for mail clients like Thunderbird or Outlook that I can use? Currently, we don't see any images in our test mail, which greatly confuses the UAT team.

  • How do I keep a server connected as a volume after sleep?

    This would be in OS X 10.6... I know I can connect a server share as a volume and do so via a script so every time I boot up it gets mapped. How can I make sure that same share is mapped after my computer comes out of sleep mode? It seems like the connection gets dropped. Can the same process map the drive for me when I boot up?
