  • Convert vcproject to makefile for nix?

    - by Undawned
So I have a visual studio 2008 project setup for a project I've been working on however its a sub project of a rather larger code base which is crossplatform, so in order to make my project complaint with the main source I need to make my project nix compilable. Is there some way I can generate a makefile based off my vcproject? or if not is there someway I could generate a makefile any other way than writing it manually as it appears confusing as all hell when I open them up.

  • Visual studio 2010 exiting after program ends

    - by yCalleecharan
Hi, I'm trying out Visual studio 2010 by compiling a C program. After it displays the solution in the "DOS" command window, the window is immediately closed. In Visual studio 2008, one gets the message press any key to continue and pressing a key closes the command prompt window. How do I set this behavior in 2010? Thanks a lot...

  • Login function runs different between local and server

    - by quangnd
Here is my check login function: protected bool checkLoginStatus(String email, String password) { bool loginStatus = false; bool status = false; try { Connector.openConn(); String str = "SELECT * FROM [User]"; SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand(str, Connector.conn); SqlDataAdapter da = new SqlDataAdapter(cmd); DataSet ds = new DataSet(); da.Fill(ds, "tblUser"); //check valid foreach (DataRow dr in ds.Tables[0].Rows) { if (email == dr["Email"].ToString() && password == Connector.base64Decode(dr["Password"].ToString())) { Session["login_status"] = true; Session["username"] = dr["Name"].ToString(); Session["userId"] = dr["UserId"].ToString(); status = true; break; } } } catch (Exception ex) { } finally { Connector.closeConn(); } return status; } And call it at my aspx page: String email = Login1.UserName.Trim(); String password = Login1.Password.Trim(); if (checkLoginStatus(email, password)) Response.Redirect(homeSite); else lblFailure.Text = "Invalid!"; I ran this page at localhost successful! When I published it to server, this function only can run if email and password correct! Other, error occured: A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified) I tried open SQL Server 2008 Configuration Manager and enable SQL Server Browser service (Logon as:NT Authority/Local Service) but it stills error. (note: here is connection string of openConn() at Localhost (run on SQLEXpress 2005) connectionString="Data Source=MYLAPTOP\SQLEXPRESS;Initial Catalog=Spider_Vcms;Integrated Security=True" /> ) At server (run on SQL Server Enterprise 2008) connectionString="Data Source=SVR;Initial Catalog=Spider_Vcms;User Id=abc;password=123456;" /> anyone have an answer for my problem :( thanks a lot!

  • Great programming quotes

    - by epatel
There are a lot of great programming quotes out there. Which do you like? Today (Sept 12, 2008) I heard a new one from a friend, Lars-Gunnar, he said "Gud finns i Emacs" (in Swedish). This basically means "God is in Emacs". Still laughing about it here :) What he meant was that a function "gud is grand-unified-debugger" is in Emacs. A great one I think all programmers should know is The Three Great Virtues of a Programmer.

  • Excel - Avoid cell text to be shown onto next empty cell

    - by e-mre
When you have text in an Excel cell that is too long to be shown in the visible area of a single cell and the cell next to the first cell (the one on the right) is empty, Excel lets the text to be printed onto the next cell. This is what I want to change. I want to avoid this text overflow. I know I can avoid this by enabling "word wrap" and adjusting row height. But that is not what I want. I want to change the DEFAULT behavior of Excel so it shows the value of each cell only in the visible area of that cell. No overflow, no word wrap. Is this possible? (I am using Excel 2010 by the way)

  • In SQL Server changing column varchar(255) nvarchar

    - by JD
Hi, I am using SQL server 2008 express and some of our columns are defined as varchar(255). Should I convert these columns to NvarChar(255) or nvarchar(max)? The reason I ask is I read that nvarchar(255) for unicode characters would actually store 1/2 the number of characters (since unicode characters are 2 bytes) whereas 255 with varchar() would allow me to store 255 characters (or is it 255 - 2 for the offset). Would there be any performance hits using nvarchar(max)? JDs

  • No middle-click scrolling in visual studio 2010?

    - by maxp
Just as I started to assume this feature was ubiquitous(middle-clicking on a page, then scrolling speed/direction is relative to the distance of the pointer on the y-axis). I can't believe this hasn't been implemented into the text editor in vs2010, I used it all the time in 2005 and 2008. Has anyone managed to find a workaround or am I a minority user of this feature?

  • No IntelliSense for c++/cli in visual studio 2010?

    - by Sam
I just moved from Visual Studio 2008 to 2010, and noticed one major flaw: When I try to use AutoComplete in a C++ Source file for managed c++, a small note in the footer appers: intellisense for c++/cli not available Uh, has IntelliSense for c++/cli been dropped from Visual Studio 2010? Is there any way to get this back? It is rather useful...

  • False sense of security with `snprintf_s`

    - by xtofl
MSVC's "secure" sprintf funcions have a template version that 'knows' the size of the target buffer. However, this code happily paints 567890 over the stack after the end of bytes... char bytes[5]; _snprintf_s( bytes, _TRUNCATE, "%s", "1234567890" ); Any idea what I do wrong, or is this a known bug? (I'm working in VS2005 - didn't test in 2008 or 2010)

  • How do I set Environment Variables in Visual Studio 2010?

    - by xarzu
How do I set Environment Variables in Visual Studio 2010? I found this web page: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee479070.aspx Which says: From the Project menu, choose Properties. In the left pane, select Configuration Properties, and then select Environment. But when I select "Configuration Properties", there is no "Enviroment" option: http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h292/Athono/microsoft/newstuff.jpg This is an example in VS 2008: http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b279/GrunchCan/env.jpg But how is it done in VS 2010?
