  • Array-size macro that rejects pointers

    - by nneonneo
    The standard array-size macro that is often taught is #define ARRAYSIZE(arr) (sizeof(arr) / sizeof(arr[0])) or some equivalent formation. However, this kind of thing silently succeeds when a pointer is passed in, and gives results that can seem plausible at runtime until things mysteriously fall apart. It's all-too-easy to make this mistake: a function that has a local array variable is refactored, moving a bit of array manipulation into a new function called with the array as a parameter. So, the question is: is there a "sanitary" macro to detect misuse of the ARRAYSIZE macro in C, preferably at compile-time? In C++ we'd just use a template specialized for array arguments only; in C, it seems we'll need some way to distinguish arrays and pointers. (If I wanted to reject arrays, for instance, I'd just do e.g. (arr=arr, ...) because array assignment is illegal).

  • Have macro 'return' a value

    - by bobobobo
    I'm using a macro and I think it works fine - #define CStrNullLastNL(str) {char* nl=strrchr(str,'\n'); if(nl){*nl=0;}} So it works to zero out the last newline in a string, really its used to chop off the linebreak when it gets left on by fgets. So, I'm wondering if I can "return" a value from the macro, so it can be called like func( CStrNullLastNL( cstr ) ) ; Or will I have to write a function

  • Docmd.TransferText question

    - by every_answer_gets_a_point
    b'h i will be programmatically importing a text file into a table. i have saved the import steps. i will use this: DoCmd.TransferText(TransferType, SpecificationName, TableName, FileName, HasFieldNames, HTMLTableName, CodePage) to do the import. this is what SpecificationName means: Specification Name The specification name for the set of options that determines how a text file is imported, exported, or linked. For a fixed-width text file, you must either specify a specification name or use a schema.ini file, which should be stored in the same directory as the imported, linked, or exported text file. i do need a specific specification; however i do not know how to specify one. when i manually imported a table, i did save the specifications for my import, however i do not know how to call this in the TransferText. does anyone know how to specify SpecificationName ?

  • Standardize word macro usage within the team

    - by user138010
    Hi, I have a team of 10 persons who work on word documents, they format them as per our defined guidlines. To complete the work fast we have created a macro that has been updated on all the machines. This macro corrects the font, size and formatting. How can I ensure and implement that nobody can change/replace or delete this macro from their system? In case this happens I should get an alert. Can something be done at the system or programme level? Thanks, PK

  • Change macro in VisualStudio

    - by Vaccano
    The macro 'propdp' creates a dependency property like this: public int MyProperty { get { return (int)GetValue(MyPropertyProperty); } set { SetValue(MyPropertyProperty, value); } } // Using a DependencyProperty as the backing store for MyProperty. This enables animation, styling, binding, etc... public static readonly DependencyProperty MyPropertyProperty = DependencyProperty.Register("MyProperty", typeof(int), typeof(ownerclass), new UIPropertyMetadata(0)); I would like to change it a bit. To look like this: public int MyProperty { get { return (int)GetValue(MyPropertyProperty); } set { SetValue(MyPropertyProperty, value); } } public static readonly DependencyProperty MyPropertyProperty = DependencyProperty.Register("MyProperty", typeof(int), typeof(ownerclass), new UIPropertyMetadata(0)); Can this be done? Does anyone know where to change this?

  • Create Macro With Several Variables

    - by Daniel
    I have several worksheets with similar code, so I'd like to turn it into a macro. My only problem is that there are several variables. So at certain points the code looks like this: Dim Msg_1 As String Dim Msg_2 As String Public Sub ListBox1_LostFocus() ListBox1.Height = 15 With ListBox1 Msg1 = "'" For i = 0 To .ListCount - 1 If .Selected(i) Then Msg1 = Msg1 & .List(i) & "','" End If Next i End With Msg1 = Left(Msg1, Len(Msg1) - 2) Sheets("Sheet1").Range("R3", "R3") = Msg1 End Sub and so on. How can I pass in a new value for Msg1, Msg2, Msg3 for each worksheet?

  • Changing the value of a macro at run time

    - by BrandiNo
    I'm working in Visual Studio 2010, using C++ code. What I'm trying to do is change the value of a preprocessor directive during run time, not sure if it's possible but i've tried this.. somefile.h static int mValue = 0; #define POO = mValue; ... #if POO 0 //define class methods #else //define class methods differently } main.cpp main() { //Code calls constructor and methods allowed when POO is 0 //Code increments mValue //Code calls constructor and methods allowed when POO is 1 } How can POO be changed so that class objects uses a different implementation of other methods? Or if it's not possible, what's a another approach to this?

  • Macro C++ Issues __VA_ARGS__

    - by CodeLizard
    What (if any) are some potential problems with a C++ macro usage like this? Would an inline function be a more appropriate solution? #define EVENT_INFO(_format_, ...) CMyEvent::Generate(__FILE__, __LINE__, CMyEvent::EVT_HIGH, _format_, __VA_ARGS__) void CMyEvent::Generate( const char* file, // filename int line, // line number CMyEvent::LEVEL level, // severity level const char *format, // format of the msg / data ...) // variable arguments { // Get a message from the pool CMyEvent* p_msg = GetMessageFromPool(); if(p_msg != NULL) { va_list arguments; // points to each unnamed argument va_start(arguments, format); // Fill the object with strings and data. p_msg->Fill(file, line, level, 0, format, arguments); va_end(arguments); } }

  • VS 2010 very slow

    - by kaze
    I have just upgraded to VS 2010, and I have performance problems which I did not have before (in VS 2008). The most annoying thing is that it freezes while I work in the text editor. Sometimes when it freezes I see that it is saving auto recovery information, but not always. Almost anything I do gives an unacceptable long delay, like saving, starting to debug, ending debug session, switching between design and code view, and doing WinForms designing. I have some parts of my home directory on a mapped network drive. I suspect that that might be a part of the problem. Is it possible to configure VS 2010 to use exclusively local disk for its "internal" work perhaps? Any hints would be appreciated! Has anyone else experienced these kinds of problems?

  • Visual Modeler in VS 6

    - by Yogi Yang 007
    Till date I have used only VB6 Professional for developing apps. But recently I have joined a company which owns VS 6 Enterprise (or some such version) I was just exploring what is available in VS 6 Ent. and I found Visual Modeler. The tutorial provided with it is not good enough. I was wondering if there is any detailed tutorial(s) for Visual Modeler? Is Visual Modeler a cut down version of Rational Rose? I have never used such a tool for developing apps. What are the benefits of developing apps like this? The document claims that one can speed up development and modifications of VB6 & VC++ 6 applications. How true is this claim? My company also has Ration Rose 6. Which is better Rational Rose 6 or Visual Modeler that comes with VS 6 Ent.?

  • MySQL index cardinality - performance vs storage efficiency

    - by Sean
    Say you have a MySQL 5.0 MyISAM table with 100 million rows, with one index (other than primary key) on two integer columns. From my admittedly poor understanding of B-tree structure, I believe that a lower cardinality means the storage efficiency of the index is better, because there are less parent nodes. Whereas a higher cardinality means less efficient storage, but faster read performance, because it has to navigate through less branches to get to whatever data it is looking for to narrow down the rows for the query. (Note - by "low" vs "high", I don't mean e.g. 1 million vs 99 million for a 100 million row table. I mean more like 90 million vs 95 million) Is my understanding correct? Related question - How does cardinality affect write performance?

  • Installing Tangible T4 Editor in VS 2010 RC

    - by Stomp
    I installed the (free) Tangible T4 Editor from the VS Gallery, and shut down/restarted VS. I run on XP under an Administrator account. VS Extension Manager indicates that the editor is installed and enabled. Here is my problem: When I do Add New Item (as in the video here), I don't see any of the Tangible templates. What have I missed? (BTW, I looked around some more, found the T4 Toolbox, installed that, and still see no new templates for Tangible or the toolbox). Thanks!

  • Java vs c++ types

    - by folone
    I've recently had a question about coledatetime java implementation, and Chris said, that the problem might lay in type conversions: cpp-float vs java-float (Or maybe cpp-date vs java-date. Not types, but..). Now I have several questions on this: Is there a table of comparison for java vs c++ types? If type conversions is the problem, in my situation (I have a db with OLEDate records, already created with some c++ program. I need to read and write to that db, so that the OLEDate field compatibility remained: my java code reads proper dates, and c++ program is not affected with what the java program wrote to the db.), what would you do: Use COleDateTime to retrieve the date with JNI? Create your own implementation at all costs (using broader types, or anything else)? Is there anything, I'm missing here?

  • VS.NET solution built differently on build server

    - by slolife
    I have a VS.NET solution with two Projects, ProjectWeb and ProjectLibrary. PW depends on PL, so I have a VS.NET project reference to PL in PW. That works all well and good on my dev box, but when it all gets to the build server, I have two different build projects, one for PL and one for PW. I'd like to build PL and copy the binaries somewhere. Then, I'd like to build PW and it only, using the binaries from the previous PL build. But will that work since the PW VS.NET project is referencing a project that doesn't exist when I build PW only on the build server? How can I set this up For specifics, I am using CC.NET and NAnt, but I have other projects that use Hudson and straight MS build

  • VS 2008 unstable after "Stop Debugging"

    - by liys
    This was on Windows Server 2003 X86, VSTS 9.0.30729.1 SP I used "Attach to process" to debug the program, but recently when I "Stop Debugging" by "shift + f5", I was prompted with an error saying "VS has an internal error and will be unstable". After that all the debug related menu items were disabled e.g. "Start debugging" and "attach to process" etc., even when I forcibly closed the program the situation remained, leaving me the only option to restart the solution. The only reason I can think of causing this is that I forcibly kill the process a lot, in order to able to rebuild it quickly, other than that I didn't do anything abnormal to VS. another sympton: when I tried to close the VS normally, I was prompted with "source file [] does not belong to the project being debugged" for all the files I opened inside of IDE, but the file does belong to the project. Thanks for any reply.

  • How to display CodeRush menu item in VS ?

    - by drasto
    I just installed CodeRush to my VS and when I run VS for the first time after installation it showed me a dialog asking if I'm experienced user. While the dialog was visible I could see that there was new menu item in VS named DevExpress. There was a small check box on that dialog saying something about menu items that I probably should have checked. As I did not the menu items disappeared just after I clicked OK. I cannot make that menu item reappear. Can somebody help me with this ?

  • VS 2010 SQL Update for SQL Statement

    - by Mike Tucker
    Please bear with me as I'm just beginning to learn this stuff. I have a VS 2010 Web project up and I'm trying to understand how I can make a custom UpdateCommand (Because I chose to write my own SQL statement, I do not have the option for VS 2010 to auto generate an update command for me.) Problem is: I don't know what the UpdateCommand should look like. Here is my Select: SELECT * FROM Dbo.MainAsset, dbo.Model, dbo.Hardware WHERE MainAsset.device = Hardware.DeviceID AND MainAsset.model = Model.DeviceID Which, VS 2010 turns into: SELECT MainAsset.pk, MainAsset.img, MainAsset.device, MainAsset.model, MainAsset.os, MainAsset.asset, MainAsset.serial, MainAsset.inyear, MainAsset.expyear, MainAsset.site, MainAsset.room, MainAsset.teacher, MainAsset.FirstName, MainAsset.LastName, MainAsset.Notes, MainAsset.Dept, MainAsset.AccountingCode, Model.Model AS Hardware, Model.pk AS Model, Model.DeviceID, Hardware.Computer, Hardware.pk AS Expr3, Hardware.DeviceID AS Expr4 FROM MainAsset INNER JOIN Hardware ON MainAsset.device = Hardware.DeviceID INNER JOIN Model ON MainAsset.model = Model.DeviceID How would I approach updating one column, say "MainAsset.site" if that's changed in the Gridview DDL? Any help constructive help would be appreciated. Thank you.
