  • C++ MIDI file reading library

    I'm trying to write some software to read a MIDI file into an internal data format and use it to control 3D simulated instruments. My biggest problem is reading the MIDI data in from a file, and I'd like to avoid writing all the import code. Does anyone know of a free (preferably Open Source), cross-platform MIDI file reading library? What features does it have? Can it import other note-based music formats?

    Our software must be able to run on SQL Server 2000 and 2005. To simplify development, we're running our SQL Server 2005 databases in compatibility level 80. However, database performance seems slower on SQL 2005 than on SQL 2000 in some cases (we have not confirmed this using benchmarks yet). Would upgrading the compatibility level to 90 improve performance on the SQL 2005 servers?

  • How to change last letter of filename to lowercase if it is a letter?

    I have been given data which cannot be interpreted by my software unless it has a lowercase letter at the end. The data was delivered with an uppercase letter at the end. Somehow I need to first recursively loop through all folders and find whether the filename ends with a letter and then change it to lowercase. I think python could do this, but I don´t know how,.     In my MSI package I need to set user rights to a directory using cacls.exe. It works fine in an NTFS environment but fails when run on a Fat32 file system. Is there a method to determine the type of file system of the drive the software is installed to? I'm using WiX 3 to create my MSI package but any hint pointing to the MSI database would help as well. Many thanks in advance.

    As I understand it GPL says you only have to distribute derivative code for works you distribute, i.e. if you develop internal software you can keep your code private. What happens if you develop a server application, say like Facebook or StackOverflow? The server app is not 'distributed' so what's the situation with your code in this case?

  • Always-indexed MySQL indexing/searching replacements for InnoDB?

    I am using InnoDB for a MySQL table, and obviously queries using LIKE and RLIKE/REGEXP can take a lot of time. I've tried Spinx, and it works great, except I have to re-index context at intervals. I can re-index every minute, but I am wondering if there is either 1) a setting in Sphinx to keep records always indexed or 2) other software besides Sphinx that will keep records always indexed. I want it where that immediately upon inserting or updating a record, the index is updated.
