  So I upgraded on a fresh install to ubuntu 12.10, not beta, and I've tried installing wine many mannnnyy times now many different ways but the jist of it is this "This error could be caused by required additional software packages which are missing or not installable. • One huge drive (network share) from many computers, with folder priority redundancy.

  Not sure if this exists, but I have a huge amount of data to store (about 5-50mb files) and as it is now, I have 5 computers, each with raid 5 providing about 6TB hard drive each. This is causing some problems with the software I am using (something home made) so I'm wondering, is there some software that I can install on all those computers that will mask it as one huge drive... Running windows on those computers, from Xp 64 bit to windows server 2008 I would also like to set a priority on each folder on the redundancy it has, some folders I can live without no online backup (I have a backup in a safe of that data) but some I need full online backup system if one hard drive fails. Something open source, as I try to use that as much as I can, but all ideas welcome.

  I'm trying to install a scanner by IP the same way you would install a printer by IP. I don't want to install the horrible HP Solution Center software but I don't know how to install a network scanner without the software. I'm having a hard time googling this because when I search for things like "install network scanner" or "install scanner by IP" all the results are for things like Angry IP Scanner which is clearly different than what I'm trying to get.   I need a simple CMS software (or maybe it's called something else). There are many users (adding new users has to be simple as it will be done manually, no "sign up" link) and those users have to access (just download, no uploading or modification) some files. A file can be shown just to one user or a group of users (a user can belong to multiple groups). Upload a file and tag which users/groups can access it. This can probably be done with FTP, but HTTP would be better. Any software (preferable open source) that can do this without much modification? I can modify PHP code a bit, but I am not a programmer.

  I deleted Linux (Ubuntu) partition from windows Ii forgot to repair mbr. The thing is I don't have my windows boot CD with me now and not CD drive. so the solution I needed is that is there any small utility software that can be easily downloaded (I knew about hiren CD but that's about 500 MB and I don't need that whole stuff) and can work through USB?   First of all, the router I am using is a Cisco WRVS4400N. My company runs a software which handles the MySQL database of all of their products. The software now has an e-commerce module, so I have to set up a secure tunnel from our network to the server that will be hosting our e-commerce site so that when the database is updated, the site will also be updated. The technician completeing the job said there is an IP conflict, and has asked me to NAT 192.168.0.0/24 to 192.168.115.0/24. I am not really sure how to do this, and they want to charge $150 an hour to do it for me. Can anyone help?

  We're considering building an Oracle database with 12 Intel X25-M G2 160GB drives in software RAID10. It'd be running Linux. Database gets some very heavy write activity during the early morning data load, other than that it is mostly read-only (and the read load is fairly minimal). We're currently running on 11 150GB Velociraptors (also Linux software RAID10), and are hoping the X25-M will speed up the data load. We currently have redo on different disks than the rest of the data. I'm wondering a few things: Any experience with using X25-M drives for databases? The X25-E are unfortunately beyond our budget. Would it hurt to separate redo off to some magnetic (non-SSD) drives, say 2 (raid1) or 4 (raid10) Seagate Constellations?

• sticky bit on NFS file system

  I have a system where to the main server (homes, nfs, ntp, queue...) can log-in only root – all the other users use front-end host with NFS-mounted home directories (RW) and all other software directories (read-only). My problem is, that time to time, if root or normal user with sudo makes some administrative works on front-end some homes of normal users getting sticky bits (drwsr-sr-x). If it happens usually the user can't log-in (as long as permission for his home are not changed to drwxr-xr-x). The last time I saw it after compiling some new software (normal user configure;make) and installation from the same directory as root (su and make install or direct as normal user sudo make install). Can somebody explain me why it happens and what should I do to get rid of this problem? p.s. I'm using CentOS 5.7
