  • How to split movie and play parts to look as a whole?

    - by luksow
I'm writing software which is demonstraiting video on demand service. One of the feature is something similiar to IIS Smooth Streaming - I want to adjust quality to the bandwith of the client. My idea is, to split single movie into many, let's say - 2 seconds parts, in different qualities and then send it to the client and play them. The point is that for example first part can be in very high quality, and second in really poor (if the bandwith seems to be poor). The question is - do you know any software that allows me to cut movies precisly? For example ffmpeg splits movies in a way that join is visible and really annoying (seconds are the measure of precision). I use qt + phonon as a player if it matters. Or maybe you know any better way to provide such feature, without splitting movie into parts?

  • JFrame does not refresh after deleting an image

    - by dajackal
    Hi! I'm working for the first time with images in a JFrame, and I have some problems. I succeeded in putting an image on my JFrame, and now i want after 2 seconds to remove my image from the JFrame. But after 2 seconds, the image does not disappear, unless I resize the frame or i minimize and after that maximize the frame. Help me if you can. Thanks. Here is the code: File f = new File("2.jpg"); System.out.println("Picture " + f.getAbsolutePath()); BufferedImage image = ImageIO.read(f); MyBufferedImage img = new MyBufferedImage(image); img.resize(400, 300); img.setSize(400, 300); img.setLocation(50, 50); getContentPane().add(img); this.setSize(600, 400); this.setLocationRelativeTo(null); this.setVisible(true); Thread.sleep(2000); System.out.println("2 seconds over"); getContentPane().remove(img); Here is the MyBufferedImage class: public class MyBufferedImage extends JComponent{ private BufferedImage image; private int nPaint; private int avgTime; private long previousSecondsTime; public MyBufferedImage(BufferedImage b) { super(); this.image = b; this.nPaint = 0; this.avgTime = 0; this.previousSecondsTime = System.currentTimeMillis(); } @Override public void paintComponent(Graphics g) { Graphics2D g2D = (Graphics2D) g; g2D.setColor(Color.BLACK); g2D.fillRect(0, 0, this.getWidth(), this.getHeight()); long currentTimeA = System.currentTimeMillis(); //g2D.drawImage(this.image, 320, 0, 0, 240, 0, 0, 640, 480, null); g2D.drawImage(image, 0,0, null); long currentTimeB = System.currentTimeMillis(); this.avgTime += currentTimeB - currentTimeA; this.nPaint++; if (currentTimeB - this.previousSecondsTime > 1000) { System.out.format("Drawn FPS: %d\n", nPaint++); System.out.format("Average time of drawings in the last sec.: %.1f ms\n", (double) this.avgTime / this.nPaint++); this.previousSecondsTime = currentTimeB; this.avgTime = 0; this.nPaint = 0; } } }

  • how to optimize an oracle query that has to_char in where clause for date

    - by panorama12
I have a table that contains about 49403459 records. I want to query the table on a date range. say 04/10/2010 to 04/10/2010. However, the dates are stored in the table as format 10-APR-10 10.15.06.000000 AM (time stamp). As a result. When I do: SELECT bunch,of,stuff,create_date FROM myTable WHERE TO_CHAR (create_date,'MM/DD/YYYY)' >= '04/10/2010' AND TO_CHAR (create_date, 'MM/DD/YYYY' <= '04/10/2010' I get 529 rows but in 255.59 seconds! which is because I guess I am doing to_char on EACH record. However, When I do SELECT bunch,of,stuff,create_date FROM myTable WHERE create_date >= to_date('04/10/2010','MM/DD/YYYY') AND create_date <= to_date('04/10/2010','MM/DD/YYYY') then I get 0 results in 0.14 seconds. How can I make this query fast and still get valid (529) results?? At this point I can not change indexes. Right now I think index is created on create_date column

  • Magento cache wrong read permissions?

    - by Lucasmus
There seems to be a problem in Magento's reading of the var/cache directory. I've disabled Full Page Caching for testing. When I execute the bash command chmod -R 777var/cache/` before loading the page, it loads ~3 seconds quicker (the time it takes before 'mage::dispatch::routers_match' is reached in the Profiler is reduced from ~4 seconds to ~1 second). This speed-up remains a while but then is lost until the chmod is called again. I'm guessing this has to do with writing permissions somehow? The odd thing is, the cache contents are afaik owned by the process that is executing magento (the web user). Does anyone have any clues what could be the problem or what could be changed to prevent this?

  • iPhone: Cocos2d how to make a sequence

    - by Johannes Jensen
I have two logos, which I want to come in after each other. I'd like to use CCFadeIn and CCFadeOut. I have Logo1, and then I want it to CCFadeIn, then I want it to stay for 2 seconds, then make it fade out using CCFadeOut, and then make Logo2 CCFadeIn for 1 second, stay for 2 seconds and then go away during 1 second with CCFadeOut. How I would make this I'm not completely sure. I can't seem to find a way to make a CCAction fire a method (let's say -finishedFadingInLogo1:), so I don't know how to do this. Any ideas?

  • Progressbar: Force element.innerHTML update before javascript sort call

    - by maras
Hi, what is the best practice for this scenario: 1) User clicks "Sort huge javascript array" 2) Browser shows "Sorting..." through element.innerHTML="Sorting" 3) Browser sorts huge javascript array (100% CPU for several seconds) while displaying "Sorting..." message. 4) Browser shows result. Pseudo code: ... <a href="#" onclick="sortHugeArray();return false">Sort huge array</a> ... function sortHugeArray(){ document.getElementById("progress").innerHTML="Sorting..."; ...do huge sort ... ...render result... document.getElementById("progress").innerHTML=result; } When i do that this way, browser never shows "Sorting...", it freezes browser for several seconds and shows result without noticing user... Thank you for advice.

  • Need help optimizing MYSQL query with join

    - by makeee
    I'm doing a join between the "favorites" table (3 million rows) the "items" table (600k rows). The query is taking anywhere from .3 seconds to 2 seconds, and I'm hoping I can optimize it some. Favorites.faver_profile_id and Items.id are indexed. Instead of using the faver_profile_id index I created a new index on (faver_profile_id,id), which eliminated the filesort needed when sorting by id. Unfortunately this index doesn't help at all and I'll probably remove it (yay, 3 more hours of downtime to drop the index..) Any ideas on how I can optimize this query? In case it helps: Favorite.removed and Item.removed are "0" 98% of the time. Favorite.collection_id is NULL about 80% of the time. SELECT `Item`.`id`, `Item`.`source_image`, `Item`.`cached_image`, `Item`.`source_title`, `Item`.`source_url`, `Item`.`width`, `Item`.`height`, `Item`.`fave_count`, `Item`.`created` FROM `favorites` AS `Favorite` LEFT JOIN `items` AS `Item` ON (`Item`.`removed` = 0 AND `Favorite`.`notice_id` = `Item`.`id`) WHERE ((`faver_profile_id` = 1) AND (`collection_id` IS NULL) AND (`Favorite`.`removed` = 0) AND (`Item`.`removed` = '0')) ORDER BY `Favorite`.`id` desc LIMIT 50;

  • Troubleshooting occasional timeout of select() in windows

    - by JonF
I'm having an occasional problem with select() timing out on me. I have it set for twenty seconds. The system will handle 100's of transactions correctly, but occasionally one fails with the selet timing out. It does about 1 transaction every few seconds, opening and closing the tcp conncetion with each transaction. I thought the server my app was connecting to might have to many connection attempts pending, but no 4226 events are showing up in the logs One more point thing I noticed when using wireshark that I'm getting a SYN,RST in response to the SYN I am appearently sending. This only happens a few times over the first second or two, then I don't see any more activity in Wireshark

  • breaking out from socket select

    - by kamziro
I have a loop which basically calls this every few seconds (after the timeout): while(true){ if(finished) return; switch(select(FD_SETSIZE, &readfds, 0, 0, &tv)){ case SOCKET_ERROR : report bad stuff etc; return; default : break; } // do stuff with the incoming connection } So basically for every few seconds (which is specified by tv), it reactivates the listening. This is run on thread B (not a main thread). There are times when I want to end this acceptor loop immediately from thread A (main thread), but seems like I have to wait until the time interval finishes.. Is there a way to disrupt the select function from another thread so thread B can quit instantly?

  • How does the default Camera iPhone app manages to save a photo so fast?

    - by worriorbg
Hello everyone. So far I've managed to create an app for iPhone that takes multiple images with about a 3 second interval between each. I`m processing each image in a separate thread asynchronously and everything is great till it gets to the moment for saving the image on the iPhone disk. Then it takes about 12 seconds to save the image to the disk using JPEG representation. How does Apple do it, how do they manage to save a single image so fast to the disk is there a trick they are using? I saw that the animations distract the user for a while, but still the time needed is below 12 seconds! Thanks in advance.

  • How can I select all records between two dates without using date fields?

    - by Hayden Bech
Hi, I have a MySQL DB and I need to be able to store dates earlier then 1970 - in my case, as early as 0 AD and earlier too, so I need a custom way to store dates. I have thought to use this format: Year - int(6) | Month -int(2) | day - int (2) | time - time | AD tinyint (1) | mya - int (11) But when it comes to actually using data in this format it becomes difficult. For example, if I want to get all records between two dates it would be like (pseudocode not SQL): get all where year between minYear and maxYear if year == minYear, month = minMonth if year == maxYear, month <= maxMonth if month == minMonth, day = minDay if month == maxMonth, day <= maxDay if day == minDay, time = minTime if day == maxDay, time <= maxTime or something, which seems like a right pain. I could store seconds before/after 0 AD, but that would take up way too much data! 2010 (EDIT: 2011) = 6.4 billion seconds since 0 AD. Does anybody have any ideas for this problem?

  • How fast are App Engine db.get(keys) and A.all(keys_only=True).filter('b =', b).fetch(1000)?

    - by Liron Shapira
A db.get() of 50 keys seems to take me 5-6 seconds. Is that normal? What is the time a function of? I also did a A.all(keys_only=True).filter('b =', b).fetch(1000) where A.b is a ReferenceProperty. I did 50 such round trips to the datastore, with different values of b, and the total time was only 3-4 seconds. How is this possible? db.get() is done in parallel, with only one trip to the datastore, and I would think that looking up an entity by key is a faster operation than fetch.

  • mysql select query optimization

    - by Saharsh Shah
I have two table testa & testb. CREATE TABLE `testa` ( `id` INT(10) NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT, `name` VARCHAR(50) DEFAULT NULL, PRIMARY KEY (`id`) ); CREATE TABLE `testb` ( `id` INT(10) NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT, `name` VARCHAR(50) DEFAULT NULL, `aid1` INT(10) DEFAULT NULL, `aid2` INT(10) DEFAULT NULL, `aid3` INT(10) DEFAULT NULL, PRIMARY KEY (`id`) ); Currently I am running below query for retrieving all rows where id in testa table matches with any columns of aid1,aid2,aid3 in tableb. The query is retreiving acurate result but it is taking minimum 30 seconds to execute which is too much. I have also tried to optimise my query using UNION but failed to do so. SELECT a.id, a.name, b.name, b.id FROM testb b INNER JOIN testa a ON b.aid1 = a.id OR b.aid2 = a.id OR b.aid3 = a.id ; How do i optimize my query so it's total execution time is within 2-3 seconds? Thanks in advance...

  • C# UDP Socket taking time to send data to unknown IP

    - by Mohsan
Hi. i am sending data to UDP socket using this code Socket udpClient = new Socket(AddressFamily.InterNetwork, SocketType.Dgram, ProtocolType.Udp); IPEndPoint ipEndPoint = new IPEndPoint(IPAddress.Parse(obj.destAddress), obj.destPort); byte[] buf = new byte[obj.length]; Array.Copy((byte[])obj.data, buf, obj.length); int n = udpClient.SendTo(buf, ipEndPoint); udpClient.Close(); this code works fine when IP exists in current network, but it takes 3-5 seconds when I send data to unknown IP address. This causes main application to hang for 3-5 seconds.. What could be the reason behind this problem..

  • Filemaker XSL 20sec Query Latency

    - by Ian Wetherbee
I have an ASP frontend that loads data from a Filemaker database using XSL to perform simple queries. The problem is that the first page load takes 20 seconds +/- 200ms, then the next few page refreshes within a minute of the first request take <200ms, then the cycle starts over again. Each page load makes only 2 XSL queries, and they execute fast after the first page load, so what is causing the delay on the first page load? I have caching turned up with a 100% hit rate, and number of connections at 100. I've tried with XSL database sessions on and off, and session time anywhere from 1 to 60 minutes without any changes. The XSL loads from ASP use a GET request and add a Basic Authorization header to authenticate each time. During fast page requests, the fmserver.exe and fmswpc.exe processes don't even flinch, but during a 20 second holdup I see fmserver jump to 30% CPU and a 3mb I/O read a few seconds into the request, and occasionally fmswpc jump to 60% CPU.

  • jQuery .toggle() called by window.setInterval() not functioning

    - by Paul Daly
I am trying to alternate between two logos every 5 seconds using the following code: window.setInterval( function () { //breakpoint 1 $("#logo").toggle( function() { //breakpoint 2 $(this).attr('src', '/Images/logo1.png'); }, function() { //breakpoint 3 $(this).attr('src', '/Images/logo2.png'); } ); }, 5000 ); I can get a simple toggle to work, but when I introduce the toggle within window.setInterval(), the toggle's two handlers won't fire. I set breakpoints on the lines directly beneath the comments in the code above. Breakpoint 1 hits every 5 seconds. However, Breakpoint 2 and 3 never hit. Why are neither of the toggle function's handlers firing?

  • How to efficiently implement a blocking call with Rails, while letting the client wait for the reply

    - by Kyle Heironimus
We have a web service written in Rails. The API is published and we cannot change it. Our app communicates with a remote web service that sometimes hangs or takes several seconds to reply. Client -> Our Web Service -> Remote Web Service Currently, if the remote web service hangs for 5 seconds, one of our rails processes on our web service also hangs with it, which is what we need to avoid. I've seen things such as mod-x-sendfile, modporter, and delayed jobs, but the best I can tell, they all assume the client is not waiting for an answer. Since the API is already established, we cannot tell the client "I'm attempting to do what you want, check back later for the answer." The best option we have come up with so far is to add a second, non-rails web server running eventmachine to process these particular calls. Is there a better way?

HI, I am developing asp.net mvc site with linq-to-sql we are having 1000 cocurrent users and we are having performance problems. I have found that stackovewflow is also build on linq-to-sql? So can anybody know how they improved performance. Without line performance was good each page are loaded in 3 seconds but after migrating to linq as per our client requirement page comes in 8 to 10 seconds which is not acceptable performance. Our HTML is very clear but we are having very complex database operations. Any tip or code will be best answer. Thanks in advance,

  • Send data to webserver from C#, what's the most efficient way?

    - by Brian
I am sending gps coordinates from a windows mobile phone to a webserver using a basic program I wrote in C#. The problem is the data plan on the phone only allows 4 MB per month. I was planning on updating the location every 10 seconds. Currently I am just creating a webrequest every 10 seconds to a php page on the server and the coordinates are passed over in the url, the php page saves them to the database. This generates about 1K of data per request, at this rate I will hit my data limit in less than a day. Is there a more efficient way to do this?

Can any tell me the possible reasons for this error? There is nothing recorded in Apache logs.

  • What is the time taken by java to call a method in another package?

    - by satish
I have an assignment where i need to do feasibility study on two of my approaches and find optimized one. There are two packages A and B User input is gathered in A and then sent to B for execution. Now my approaches are 1. Call B methods from package A one by one. 2. Create a common method in B and send all the input as parameters. Which is feasible and best one, I know 2 is good in terms of code optimization and less number of calls. But, I want to understand what will be the execution time difference in above approaches How much time does java take to call method in another package? Is there any default value like x nano seconds or y milli seconds. Based on the time taken I can choose the appropiate one. Thanks

I noticed firstTime and c.getTimeInMillis() differs a lot in size and length. When I use firstTime, so when set to 30 seconds, the alarm is executed well.
