We are evaluating Tableau and noticed that it doesn't appear to recognize sparse columns in our SQL Server 2008 tables. Is this possible or are there any common workarounds?
I have a GUI C++ application (Visual Studio 2008) that needs to be converted to a console one.

Hi ,
my doubt is the following, I have a network with 5 pcs, each machine has XP installed, I don't know much about distributed desktop applications, so what i want is to create a C# application using sql server 2005 database and visual studio 2008. I want that each pc can have access to create/update/delete data on the one XP machine that will store the database files. Do i need WServer2003 or any special network technology??
thanks in advance
We have several .net dlls that are being stripped of version information when they are copied to our production environment. The Servers in prod are windows 2008 and we are using robocopy to move the files. It does not always strip the info, but when it does, it errors out the entire site.
Any thoughts would be very helpful.
How do I change it to save my identity permanently using Xfce? During my login session after I have entered:
$ ssh-add
Then identity is saved and I can connect via ssh without getting the dreaded:
Enter passphrase for key
However, once I logout and login back-in I get the following when running:
$ ssh-add -L
The agent has no identities.
$ ssh <hostname>
Enter passphrase for key '/home/user/.ssh/id_rsa':
Stackoverflow has the following solution, yet I do not understand the reference to in the config file:
IdentityFile ~/.ssh/id_rsa_buhlServer
Specifically I do not understand what I would put on the identity file. Would I put the above word for word?
Or just add my file:
IdentityFile ~/.ssh/id_rsa

I'm looking to write a comparator to sort my items in a list.
For items without an end year they should be at the top.
For items with an end year they should be next.
For items with the same end year the one with the lowest start year should be next.
Something I have so far
[item.get('end_year'), item.get('start_year')]
Test sceanrios first is end year second is start year ("" is present)

"", 2012

In my Visual Studio 2010 project I have files with .mm file extension, that need to be compiled as normal C++ files. Is there a way to make a build rule for new extensions or something like that? In VS 2008 there were options for that, but they are gone in 2010.
I'm trying to rename a namespace. For some reason, ReSharper isn't giving me the option to do so. I right click on it and choose Refactor, but everything except "Convert" is greyed out. I try the key combination CTRL R + R, and it says the command is unavailable. What am I doing wrong?
Here is documentation suggesting that what I am trying to do should work:

I'm using Visual Studio 2008 with R# 4.5
I have an ASP.net application that currently consumes SOAP web services. This platform is targeted at .net 2.0 and I use Visual Studio Professional 2005 to maintain it. I now have a requirement to consume a number of restful web service within the same application.
Is the consumption of Restful web services with WCF so trivial, compared to using HttpClient that it is worth the cost and time of upgrading to Visual Studio 2008 and .Net 3.5 framework
Hello everyone,
I am using IIS 7.0 + Windows Server 2008 x64. I have installed .Net Framework 3.5 on my machine, but from IIS 7.0 application pool .Net framework settings, I could only set version to v1.0 or v2.0, why I cannot set to version v3.5 -- which is the latest version of .Net framework I installed on my machine?
thanks in advance,
George
I have a SSIS package that I plan to deploy on my SQL Server 2008 machine.
I need to call this SSIS package remotely and synchronously from .NET. Obviously I need to pass parameters to this package as well.
How could I do that?
Thanks,
Alex
We used to be a Coldfusion development shop before hopping over to PHP in 2008, now we primarily develop custom Drupal websites.
I enjoyed going from CF to PHP, but I feel like I am getting a bit stale.
I have been looking at different things like Ruby, Python, Obj C (iPhone). The problem is, there just isn't enough time in the day.
What would be a fun new thing to learn that would refresh me a bit and challenge myself to learn more?
We want to upgrade to VS2010 but are currently using TFS 2005. Does VS2010 integrate cleanly with the older versions of TFS. We're not upgrading to SQL Server 2008 anytime soon which is why we're still on TFS 2005.
Thanks.
I have VS 2008 and I want my application to work with Windows 98 without needing to include MSVCR90.dll .. Win98 comes with MSVCR60 so how could I tell MSVC to do this? Is my only option to hunt down Visual studio 6?
Thanks
*also I want to avoid static linking msvcr
Is there any way to stop VS (specifically 2008) automatically inserting WebForms Ids in <asp: elements when pasting code into a view?
E.g. by default pasting this into a view:
<asp:Content ContentPlaceHolderID="TitleContent" runat="server"/>
</asp:Content>
Results, annoyingly, in this:
<asp:Content ID="Content1" ContentPlaceHolderID="TitleContent" runat="server"/>
</asp:Content>
I know mysql, and I'd like to learn sqlserver.
I'm currently stuck on the basics of basics:
How to install and configure sql server
How to connect to it
I installed Sql Server through Web Platform Installer, and have Visual Studio 2008 installed. Still, I can't understand how to connect to my server:
I see that the SQL service itself (SQLEXPRESS) is running in both in services.msc and Sql Server Configuration Manager
I try to connect to it via the Management Studio, but I don't understand what to do.
Where do I begin?
I have an application that creates a Sql Server 2008 database. When I create the database, I would also like to create a datasource for SSRS.
How can I do this?
My C# application has several background workers. Sometimes one background worker will fire off another. When the first background worker completes and the RunWorkerCompleted event is fired, on which thread will that event fire, the UI or the first background worker from which RunWorkerAsync was called? I am using Microsoft Visual C# 2008 Express Edition. Any thoughts or suggestions you may have would be appreciated. Thanks.
Hi,
I am trying to create a DataTable with a multi row header. I'll exemplify here:
| 2008 | 2009 |
---------------------------------------------------------
| price | qty. | price | qty |
---------------------------------------------------------
| 93993 | 34434 | 34244 | 3434 |
.....
The years headers can be fixed as I don't want to do sorting by that.
Is there a way to do that in Google Visualizations?
Hi,
Which book is best to learn SSIS. Actually in my project we need to take onput from CVS file and after processing the data in SQL server 2008 we have export it back to excel file. ASP.NET is used as UI for this.
Thanks,
Nabin
Is there a tutorial/reference for creating an ActiveX DLL in Visual Studio 2008 C++ ?
I've got a DLL built with the DLLRegisterServer/UnregisterServer, and it's registered, but I'm having a little trouble figuring out what name to use to reference it (from a vbscript) and how to make sure my functions are exported correctly. Do I have to put my functions in a special class?
Thanks!
We're excited at the prospect of upgrading our development IDE from Visual Studio 2008 to 2010. Our production environment, however, is not scheduled to be upgraded from .net 3.5 sp1 to .net 4.0 in the near future.
What are the possible risks in using Visual Studio 2010 to develop production grade applications that will actually run on .net 3.5 sp1 ?
This question is, as indicated, for those who use Emacs.
When you do, do you rebind the caps-lock key to CTRL, or do you use the "normal" ctrl key?
I've recently learned some Emacs commands and was using the Visual Studio 2008 emacs commands for a while, and of course I used a caps-rebind tool, but I'm curious how many other people do.
On a side note, the emacs bindings for VS are severely incomplete :(
