  • Modifying nested structs in c#

    - by joniba
    Can someone tell me why the commented line of code (one before last) does not compile? Isn't it the same as the line following it? public struct OtherStruct { public int PublicProperty { get; set; } public int PublicField; public OtherStruct(int propertyValue, int fieldValue) : this() { PublicProperty = propertyValue; PublicField = fieldValue; } public int GetProperty() { return PublicProperty; } public void SetProperty(int value) { PublicProperty = value; } } public struct SomeStruct { public OtherStruct OtherStruct { get; set; } } class Program { static void Main(string[] args) { SomeStruct a = new SomeStruct(); //a.OtherStruct.PublicProperty++; a.OtherStruct.SetProperty(a.OtherStruct.GetProperty() + 1); } }

  • Perl for a Python programmer

    - by fortran
    I know Python (and a bunch of other languages) and I think it might be nice to learn Perl, even if it seems that most of the people is doing it the other way around... My main concern is not about the language itself (I think that part is always easy), but about learning the Perlish (as contrasted with Pythonic) way of doing things; because I don't think it'll be worth the effort if I end up programming Python in Perl. So my questions are basically two: Are there many problems/application areas where it's actually more convenient to solve them in Perl rather than in Python? If the first question is positive, where can I found a good place to get started and learn best practices that is not oriented to beginners?

  • Java: exception-throwing class?

    - by HH
    I have classes DirReader and Search. The search uses DirReader. I want the search to know when DirReader throws exception. So how can I have class throwing exception? Currently, I use initCorrect -dummy var. Exception-style method may be more appropriate. Simplified Example Error $ javac ExceptionStatic.java ExceptionStatic.java:4: '{' expected public class ExceptionStatic throws Exception{ ^ 1 error Code import java.util.*; import java.io.*; // THIS PART NEEDS TO BE FIXED: public class ExceptionStatic throws Exception{ private static boolean initCorrect = false; public static String hello; static{ try{ hello = "hallo"; //some other conditionals in real code if( true) throw new Exception(); initCorrect=true; }catch(Exception e){ e.printStackTrace(); } } public static void main(String[] args){ if(initCorrect) System.out.println(hello); } }

  • How to configure maximum number of channels in WCF?

    - by Hemant
    Consider following code which calls a calculator service: static void Main (string[] args) { for (int i = 0; i < 32; i++) { ThreadPool.QueueUserWorkItem (o => { var client = new CalcServiceClient (); client.Open (); while (true) { var sum = client.Add (2, 3); } }); } Console.ReadLine (); } If I use TCP binding then maximum 32 connections are opened but if I use HTTP binding, only 2 TCP connections are opened. How can I configure the maximum number of connections that can be opened using HTTP binding?

  • Inform Activity from a BroadcastReceiver ONLY if it is in the foreground

    - by Zordid
    Hi there! Maybe it's easy, but I couldn't really figure this out right so far... I got a BroadcastReceiver waiting to get triggered by the AlarmMangager - this works fine. Now: because the event, if it occurs, needs to refresh some elements on screen of the main Activity, I would like to send an Intent from that background BroadcastReceiver to my Activity - but only if it is currently in the foreground, aka active. If it is not running or not visible, I don't care - and the last thing I want to do is start the Activity by my intent! I handle repainting of the views in my onResume method, so I don't care at all. Any hints on how to do that? Thanks! EDIT: my BroadcastReceiver is waiting for alarms that must be notified to the user. So, it must be there and declared in the manifest. The problem is: it will have to decide whether the mentioned Activity is currently up in front or not.

  • Multi page forms on ASP.NET MVC

    - by Jay
    Hi, I have decided to use ASP.NET MVC to develop multi page (registration) forms in asp.net. There will be two buttons on each page that allows the user to navigate to the previous and next page. When the user navigates back to a page they recently filled out, the data should be displayed to them. I understand ASP.NET MVC should remain stateless but how should I maintain page information when the user navigates back and forth. Should I? Save the information to a database and retrieve information for each page change? save information to the session? Load all the fields and display only whats's needed with javascript? This registration form is going to be used in multiple sites but with different sets of questions (Some may be the same). IF performance is a main concern, should I avoid generating these forms dynamically? Jay

  • Should I redesign my code when collegues says so?

    - by Kirill V. Lyadvinsky
    I wrote a function recently that finds maximum of two ints. Here is a code: int get_max (int(*a)(int(*)(int(*)()),int(*)(int(*)(int**))), int(*b)(int(*) (int(*)()),int*,int(*)(int(*)()))){return (int)((((int(*)(int(*)(int(*)()),int( *)(int(*)())))a)> ((int(*)(int(*)(int(*)()),int(*)(int(*)())))b))?((int(*)( int(*)(int(*)()),int(*)(int(*)())))a):((int(*)(int(*)(int(*)()),int(*)(int(*)( ))))b));} int main() { int x = get_max( (int(*)(int(*)(int(*)()),int(*)(int(*)(int**)))) 500, (int(*)(int(*)(int(*)()),int*,int(*)(int(*)()))) 100 ); cout << x << endl; // prints 500 as expected return 0; } It works fine, but my collegue says that I shouldn't use C style casts. But I think that all that modern static_cast's and reinterpret_cast's will make my code too cumbersome. Who's right? Should I redesign my code using C++ style casts or original code is OK?

  • WinForms Taskbar Icon - Click Event not firing

    - by Greycrow
    I have created a non-form c# program that uses the NotifyIcon class. The text "(Click to Activate)" shows up when I hover the mouse. So I am getting some events handled. However, The "Click" event does not fire and the Context menu doesnt show up. public class CTNotify { static NotifyIcon CTicon = new NotifyIcon(); static ContextMenu contextMenu = new ContextMenu(); static void Main() { //Add a notify Icon CTicon.Icon = new Icon("CTicon.ico"); CTicon.Text = "(Click to Activate)"; CTicon.Visible = true; CTicon.Click += new System.EventHandler(CTicon_Click); //Create a context menu for the notify icon contextMenu.MenuItems.Add("E&xit"); //Attach context menu to icon CTicon.ContextMenu = contextMenu; while (true) //Infinite Loop { Thread.Sleep(300); //wait } } private static void CTicon_Click(object sender, System.EventArgs e) { MessageBox.Show("Clicked!"); } }

  • Sinatra 1.0 fastcgi deployment

    I am trying to deploy my sinatra app to my hosting(shared) and I keep getting this error. /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rack-1.1.0/lib/rack/handler/fastcgi.rb:23:in `initialize': Address family not supported by protocol - socket(2) (Errno::EAFNOSUPPORT) from /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rack-1.1.0/lib/rack/handler/fastcgi.rb:23:in `new' from /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rack-1.1.0/lib/rack/handler/fastcgi.rb:23:in `run' from /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/sinatra-1.0/lib/sinatra/base.rb:946:in `run!' from /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/sinatra-1.0/lib/sinatra/main.rb:25 from dispatch.fcgi:17 I have no idea what this means and I have tried many different things to fix it but nothing I tried seemed to work. My dispatch.fcgi is the following #!/usr/bin/ruby require 'rubygems' require 'sinatra' fastcgi_log = File.open("fastcgi.log", "a") STDOUT.reopen fastcgi_log STDERR.reopen fastcgi_log STDOUT.sync = true set :logging, false set :server, "FastCGI" load 'simple.rb' And finally, my .htaccess (fcgid is how my host told me to set it up) RewriteEngine on AddHandler fcgid-script .fcgi Options +FollowSymLinks +ExecCGI RewriteRule ^(.*)$ dispatch.fcgi [QSA,L]

  • How to add a view on top of a UIPopoverController

    - by Noah Witherspoon
    I've got an iPad app with a “drawer” table displayed in a popover. The user can tap-and-hold on an item in the drawer to drag that item out of it and into my main view. That part works fine; unfortunately, the view being dragged appears under the popover, and is too small to be visible until it's dragged out from underneath it. If I add the view as a subview of the view controller in the popover, it gets clipped by the popover's frame, and as I can't access the UIPopoverController's view, I can't disable its layer's masksToBounds—and that probably wouldn't be a great idea anyway. I suspect that I could use an additional UIWindow with a high windowLevel value to force the dragged view to appear on top of the popover, but this seems like overkill. Is there a better solution?

  • MIPS assembly: how to declare integer values in the .data section?

    - by Barney
    I'm trying to get my feet wet with MIPS assembly language using the MARS simulator. My main problem now is how do I initialize a set of memory locations so that I can access them later via assembly language instructions? For example, I want to initialize addresses 0x1001000 - 0x10001003 with the values 0x99, 0x87, 0x23, 0x45. I think this can be done in the data declaration (.data) section of my assembly program but I'm not sure of the syntax. Is this possible? Alternatively, in the .data section, how do I specify storing the integer values in some memory location (I don't care where, but I just want to reference them somewhere). So I'm looking for the C equivalent of "int x = 20, y=30, z=90;" I know how to do that using MIPS instructions but is it possible to declare something like that in the .data section of a MIPS assembly program?

  • How to set global hook for WH_CALLWNDPROCRET ?

    - by user261882
    Hello I want to set global hook that tracks which application is active. In my main program I am doing the foloowing : HMODULE mod=::GetModuleHandle(L"HookProcDll"); HHOOK rslt=(WH_CALLWNDPROCRET,MyCallWndRetProc,mod,0); The hook procedure which is called MyCallWndRetProc exists in separate dll called HookProcDll.dll. The hook procedure is watching for WM_ACTIVATE message. The thing is that the code stucks in the line where I am setting the hook, i.e in the line where I am calling ::SetWindowsHookEx. And then Windows gets unresponsive, my task bar disappears and I am left with empty desktop. Then I must reset the computer. What am doing wrong, why Windows get unresponsive ? and Do I need to inject HookProcDll.dll in every process in order to set the global hook, and how can I do that ?

  • Sending compressed data via socket

    - by Pizza
    Hi, I have to make a log server in java, and one task is to send the data compressed. Now I am sending it line by line in plain text, but I must compress it. The server handle "HTTP like" request. For example, I can get a log sending "GET xxx.log". This will entablish a TCP connection to the server, the server response with a header and the log, and close the connection. The client, reads line by line and analyzes each LOG entry. I tried some ways without success. My main problem is that I don't know where each line ends(in the client size). Any idea?

  • Large XML files in dataset (outofmemory)

    - by dklein
    Hi folks, I am currently trying to load a slightly large xml file into a dataset. The xml file is about 700 MB and every time I try to read the xml it needs plenty of time and after a while it throws an "out of memory" exception. DataSet ds = new DataSet(); ds.ReadXml(pathtofile); The main problem is, that it is necessary for me to use those datasets (I use it to import the data from xml file into a sybase database (foreach table, foreach row, foreach column)) and that I have no scheme file. I already googled a while, but I did only find solutions that won't be usable for me.

  • lwjgl 101: How can I write the basics?

    - by Vuntic
    This ought to be really simple, but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to compile anything with lwjgl and have it work. I can write something like package gwison; import org.lwjgl.Sys; public class G { public static void main(String[] args) { System.out.println(Sys.getTime()); } } and I can easily compile a program with several classes in different packages, as long as I wrote all the classes myself. But I have no clue how to make G work. I think it has something to do with classpathes? Maybe? Help?

  • composite colors : CALayer and blend mode on iPhone

    - by Ali
    I'm trying to use core image on the iphone. I'm able to composite my colors using quartz to draw an uiview, but i want to separate each component into CALayer (UIview consume more resources). So i have a white mask i want to use to filter a background bitmap, and i want to try diffrent blending mode. UNfortunately, the layers are only "adding" their colors. Here is my code : @implementation WhiteLayerHelper - (void)drawLayer:(CALayer *)theLayer inContext:(CGContextRef)myContext { // draw a white overlay, with special blending and alpha values, so that the saturation can be animated CGContextSetBlendMode(myContext,kCGBlendModeSaturation); CGContextSetRGBFillColor(myContext,1.0,1.0,1.0,0.9); CGContextFillRect(myContext,[UIScreen mainScreen].bounds); } @end And here is the main view drawrect code, where i use my CALayer : - (void)drawRect:(CGRect)rect { //get the drawing context CGContextRef myContext = UIGraphicsGetCurrentContext(); // draw the background [self fillContext:myContext withBounds:m_overlayRect withImage:m_currentImage]; [whiteLayer renderInContext:myContext]; } Is there something wrong ?

  • Include OpenX ad in a jquery-ui dialog?

    - by planetclaire
    I'm loading some content into a jquery-ui dialog via .ajax. That's all working fine but now I've been given an OpenX ad to embed into the dialog & can't figure out how to do it. I know all the script is stripped when coming in via ajax, & I know how to use $.getScript to load .js files for use in the dialog, but the OpenX ad script I've got uses document.write so I think it's expecting to be embedded inline into the desired position on the page. I've tried appending the escaped script string into the div on ajax success of the main content as below, but this results in the page being redirected to a page with just the ad on it. Attempt shown below: $("#" + idHelpPage).find(".adScript").append("<script type='text/javascript'>var m3_u = (location.protocol=='https:'?'https://d1.openx.org/ajs.php':'http://d1.openx.org/ajs.php');var m3_r = ... etc etc I'm ok with jquery but not great with javascript, would really appreciate any help! Also if you want to see any other code.

  • How do I get Flex Builder to use the selected framework?

    - by Michael Prescott
    I'm attempting to create a Flex Project that will cause the Flash Player to cache the Flex framework. Flex Builder comes with Flex SDK 3.2.0.3958 and setting the Framework Linkage to use Runtime shared Library (RSL) under Project Properties - Flex Build Path will separate the framework from my main application and I see that my project's bin-debug directory contains framework_3.2.0.3958.swf and *.swz for distribution. Flex SDK 3.4 fixes a few bugs, so I configured it as another available sdk and set it as the default SDK. When I compile, I expect the bin-debug directory to contain framework_3.4.0.9271.swf and *.swz; however, Flex Builder is still writing framework_3.2.0.3958.swf and *.swz. How do I configure Flex Builder to package the correct framework files for Flash Player caching?

  • Multithreading/Parallel Processing in PHP

    - by manyxcxi
    I have a PHP script that will generate a report using PHPExcel from data queried from a MySQL DB. Currently, it is linear in processing in that it gets the data back from MySQL, reads in the Excel template, writes the data to the template, then outputs it. I have optimized the code to the point that the data is only iterated over once, and there is very little processing done on the PHP side. The query returns hundreds of lines in less than .001 seconds, so it is running fast enough. After some timing I have found my bottlenecks to be (surprise, surprise) reading the template and writing the output. I would like to do this: Spawn a thread/process to read the template Spawn a thread/process to fetch the data Return back to parent thread - Parent thread will wait until both are complete Proceed on as normal My main questions are is this possible, is it worth it? If yes to both, how would you tackle it? Also, it is PHP 5 on CentOS

  • iphone - button outside MPMoviePlayerController window not responding

    - by Mike
    I have created a MPMoviePlayerController to play a movie. As the movie likes to play landscape in full screen, when the movie is about to play, I grab its window and resize it to be smaller. At the same time, I add a view to the movie's window and this view contains several buttons, that are supposed to be around the movie. As the movie's window is reduced in size, I have to scale the buttons' view up, so the buttons do not reduce in size. I ended with this What you can see here is this: four buttons (green rectangles), the reduced movie's window and the application's window, that now is visible because the movie's window was reduced. The problem is that the buttons just work if you click on their regions inside the movie's window (A). If you click them on the region outside (B) they don't work. WHen you click on B, TouchesMoved on the main view controller receives the touch and the button doesn't do its action. How can this be solved? thanks for any help
