  • jQuery ajax returns

    - by Tom
    I think this will be some obvious problem, but I cannot figure it out. I hope someone can help me. So I have a slider with 3 slides - Intro, Question, Submit Now I want to make sure that if the question is answered wrong people cannot slide to Submit. The function to move slide is like this: function changeSlide(slide){ // In case current slide is question check the answer if (jQuery('.modalSteps li.current',base).hasClass('questionStep')){ checkAnswer(jQuery('input[name="question_id"]',base).val(), jQuery('input[name="answer"]:checked',base).val()); } jQuery('.modalSteps li.current',base).fadeOut('fast',function(){ jQuery(this).removeClass('current'); jQuery(slide).fadeIn('fast',function(){ jQuery(slide).addClass('current'); }); }); // In case the new slide is question, load the question if (jQuery(slide).hasClass('questionStep')){ var country = jQuery('input[name="country"]:checked',base).val(); loadQuestion(country); } } Now as you can see on first lines, I am calling function checkAnswer, which takes id of question and id of answer and pass it to the AJAX call. function checkAnswer(question, answer){ jQuery.ajax({ url: window.base_url+'ajax/check_answer/'+question+'/'+answer+'/', success: function(data){ if (!data.success){ jQuery('.question',base).html(data.message); } } }); } The problem i am having is that I cannot say if(checkAnswer(...)){} Because of Ajax it always returns false or undefined. What I need is something like this: function changeSlide(slide){ // In case current slide is question check the answer if (jQuery('.modalSteps li.current',base).hasClass('questionStep')){ if (!checkAnswer(jQuery('input[name="question_id"]',base).val(), jQuery('input[name="answer"]:checked',base).val())){ return false; } } ... So it will prevent the slide from moving on. Now when Im thinking about it, I will probably have slide like "Wrong answer" so I could just move the slide there, but I would like to see the first solution anyway. Thank you for tips

  • Location redirect - is tracking possible ?

    - by Gerald Ferreira
    Hi there, I was wondering if someone can help me, I have the following script that redirect users to an affiliate link when they click on a banner. <?php $targets = array( 'site1' => 'http://www.site1.com/', 'site2' => 'http://www.site2.com/', 'site3' => 'http://www.site3.com/', 'site4' => 'http://www.site4.com/', ); if (isset($targets[$_GET['id']])) { header('Location: '.$targets[$_GET['id']]); exit; } ?> Is it possible to track when a user hits the banner telling me the referer site as well as the ip address of the person clicking on the banner. hmmmm something like pixel tracking? I have tried to add an iframe that does the tracking but it creates an error Hope it makes sense Thanks! This is more or less how I would have done it in asp <% var Command1 = Server.CreateObject ("ADODB.Command"); Command1.ActiveConnection = MM_cs_stats_STRING; Command1.CommandText = "INSERT INTO stats.g_stats (g_stats_ip, g_stats_referer) VALUES (?, ? ) "; Command1.Parameters.Append(Command1.CreateParameter("varg_stats_ip", 200, 1, 20, (String(Request.ServerVariables("REMOTE_ADDR")) != "undefined" && String(Request.ServerVariables("REMOTE_ADDR")) != "") ? String(Request.ServerVariables("REMOTE_ADDR")) : String(Command1__varg_stats_ip))); Command1.Parameters.Append(Command1.CreateParameter("varg_stats_referer", 200, 1, 255, (String(Request.ServerVariables("HTTP_REFERER")) != "undefined" && String(Request.ServerVariables("HTTP_REFERER")) != "") ? String(Request.ServerVariables("HTTP_REFERER")) : String(Command1__varg_stats_referer))); Command1.CommandType = 1; Command1.CommandTimeout = 0; Command1.Prepared = true; Command1.Execute(); %> I am not sure how to do it in php - unfortunately for me the hosting is only supporting php so I am more or less clueless on how to do it in php I was thinking if I can somehow call a picture I can do it with pixel tracking in anoter asp page, on another server. Hope this makes better sense

  • Replacing links detected in a HTML with other links using JS

    - by Jim
    Hi people. I'm having a bit of trouble figuring out how to do this one. Here's the scenario. My e-commerce site has a blog with a lot of content, promoting the products I sell, reviewing them etc. 99% of the posts on the blog link back to the products they are talking about. I'm going to be changing the URL where my ecommerce system is located. Therefore my blog is going to end up sending people to a lot of 404 pages. The idea I've had is to be able inclue a JS file which will on load, scan the document for existing links then, if found, swap them out with ones which are now correct. I hope this make sense. Cheers, Jim

I want to replace the panel object underlying element(previously rendered div element) to another div which will be identified dynamically. Here I don't want to create the Panel object once again by specifying identified div element, I need to make use of existing panel object and need to show the panel in the place where the identified div exists. Can any one helps me regarding this. Thanks Venkat

  • Custom Jquery slideshow doesn't want to reset?

    - by Jared
    Hello, Under $(document).ready(function(), I have the following code: num = $("#mainContentCategoryLinksWrapper > div").size(); This makes num equal the length of the children of #mainContentCategoryLinksWrapper. Currently, this equals 4. Above the $(document).ready(function( I have this: var timesRun = 0; function slideshow(){ if(timesRun < num){ $(".arrowIn").stop().animate({color: "#a12324", textIndent: "30px", backgroundPosition: '0px 0px'}, 100, function(){ //the first child in the series has a class of "arrowIn" $(".arrowIn").next().addClass("replaceMe"); //Adds the ".replaceMe" placeholder the the next element. $(".arrowIn").removeClass("arrowIn"); //Deletes the class on the current element $(".replaceMe").addClass("arrowIn").removeClass("replaceMe"); //reassigns ".arrowIn" over ".replaceMe" timesRun = timesRun + 1; //increases number of times run }).prev().animate({color: "#000000", textIndent: "25px", backgroundPosition: '0px -25px'}, {duration: 50}); //puts the previous element back to it's original position }else{ timesRun = 0; $(".arrowIn").removeClass("arrowIn"); $("#mainContentCategoryLinksWrapper:first-child").addClass("arrowIn"); //this is supposed to reset timesRun, and set the first child in the series back to the original ".arrowIn" } } setInterval( 'slideshow()', 1000 ); So here is the what the code does: 1) Animates the first in the series of 4 (#1) timesRun = 1 2) Animates the second in the series of 4 (#2) timesRun = 2 3) Animates the third in the series of 4 (#3) timesRun = 3 4) Animates the fourth in the series of 4 (#4) timesRun = 4 5) timesRun is now longer less than num. Reset class names back to original to .arrowIn, set timesRun to 0. However, when the slideshow() is reexectuted, it doesn't start over. Any ideas? See www.raceramps.com/v3 for an example.

  • Attaching an event to an Iframe that contains more iframes

    - by Oscar Godson
    I have an editor which is in my window that contains a wrapping iframe and then 2 more iframes inside like (the HTML inside the <iframe> element is inserted via write() in JS, not hardcoded like this): <iframe class="parent"> <div class="wrapper"> <iframe class="editor"></iframe> <iframe class="previewer"></iframe> </div> </iframe> One is an editor, the other is a previewer. The first one that contains the two (we'll call this the parent) has an eventListener for mousemove attached to it, but nothing is firing. If i add a 5px border for example, the event will fire when I move my mouse on the border of the parent, but not when i hover over the middle which contains the editor or previewer (previewer is display:none while the editor is visible, and vice versa). So, the blue area in the following i can mousemove, but the rest I can't. It's most likely because of the stacking order, but how can I attach an event to fire on the entire frame? I need mousemove because on mousemove I display a menu in the bottom right. I want the same menu to display whether or not the editor or the previewer is visible.

  • Disable auto resize this page when opening in IE

    - by Stan
    If open yahoo finance chart in IE, the chart will be resized to fit the viewing window, and making the chart viewable without scrolling down. However, this makes the chart become smaller for me. I would like to see original size, which requires me to click the setting bar and change something to make it restore original size. The chart shows original size in Chrome. Is it possible to view original size in IE by passing some parameters in url? I was trying looking into source code but found nothing.

  • jQuery Collapse (with cookies), default open instead of closed?

    - by Christian
    Hi. I've got a jQuery snippet which basically allows a user to toggle a div, open or closed - their preference is saved in a cookie. (function($) { $.fn.extend({ collapse: function(options) { var defaults = { inactive : "inactive", active : "active", head : ".trigger", group : ".wrap-me-up", speed : 300, cookie : "collapse" }; // Set a cookie counter so we dont get name collisions var op = $.extend(defaults, options); cookie_counter = 0; return this.each(function() { // Increment cookie name counter cookie_counter++; var obj = $(this), sections = obj.find(op.head).addClass(op.inactive), panel = obj.find(op.group).hide(), l = sections.length, cookie = op.cookie + "_" + cookie_counter; // Look for existing cookies for (c=0;c<=l;c++) { var cvalue = $.cookie(cookie + c); if ( cvalue == 'open' + c ) { panel.eq(c).show(); panel.eq(c).prev().removeClass(op.inactive).addClass(op.active); }; }; sections.click(function(e) { e.preventDefault(); var num = sections.index(this); var cookieName = cookie + num; var ul = $(this).next(op.group); // If item is open, slide up if($(this).hasClass(op.active)) { ul.slideUp(op.speed); $(this).removeClass(op.active).addClass(op.inactive); $.cookie(cookieName, null, { path: '/', expires: 10 }); return } // Else slide down ul.slideDown(op.speed); $(this).addClass(op.active).removeClass(op.inactive); var cookieValue = 'open' + num; $.cookie(cookieName, cookieValue, { path: '/', expires: 10 }); }); }); } }); })(jQuery); Demo: http://christianbullock.com/demo/ I'm just wondering how I can display the list open as default, and have the div collapse when the header is clicked? Many thanks. Christian.

  • Jquery Effect Onunload

    - by j3frea
    I would like to use the jquery slideUp effect when the user navigates away from the page just to make the page look cool as it closes. I assume that I should use the onunload event but how can I delay the page closing long enough for the effect to run to completion. One of the options that came to mind is effectively hijacking the page closing function, storing it in some variable and then executing it once I had run my effect but I have no idea how I would do that. Any suggestions or alternative ideas are more than welcome

  • HTMLInputElement in IE7

    - by Vladislav Qulin
    I'm writing an extension for crossbrowser input&textarea selection getter and setter. So that's the way i write my code: HTMLInputElement.prototype.getSelectionRange = get_selection_range; HTMLInputElement.prototype.setSelection = set_selection_range; HTMLTextAreaElement.prototype.getSelectionRange = get_selection_range; HTMLTextAreaElement.prototype.setSelection = set_selection_range; get_selection_range and set_selection_range are those extended functions. So i just wanted to replace someInputElement.selectionStart = a; // and whole lot of code due to browser someInputElement.selectionEnd = b; // compatibility with just someInputElement.setSelection(a, b); someInputElement.setSelection({ start: a, end: b }); someOtherElement.setSelection(someInputElement.getSelection()); But then i met couple of difficulties in IE7. First of all, IE7 doesnt know what is HTMLInputElement. I don't want to extend whole Object. Well, that would be the last thing i'll do, but i want to evade it. Functions get_selection_range and set_selection_range are alright, don't ask what's within, you've seen it couple of times already. So the question is: is there any legit substitution for HTMLInputElement in JS for IE7?

  • onchange force page submit

    - by cometta
    <form jwcid="@Form" listener="listener:updateStaff"> <select jwcid="staffselect@Select" multiple="ognl:false" validators="validators:required" onchange="this.form.submit()" listener="listener:updateStaff"> <span jwcid="@For" source="ognl:hrStaff" value="ognl:currentHrStaff" index="ognl:currentHrStaffIndex"> <option class="text11" jwcid="@Option" selected="ognl:hrStaffSelection[currentHrStaffIndex]" label="ognl:currentHrStaff"/> </span> </select> </form> when onchange on selectbox, this form will be submitted and my pageValidate() will be called follow by upadteStaff() listener method. I wonder, when such submission is fired, can onchange='' pass a flag ('selectboxisfired' string) that i able to capture inside pagevalidate() 'selectboxisfired'? this will allow my logic inside pagevalidate to indicate is triggered by selectbox.

  • explanation about prototype.js function binding code

    - by resopollution
    From: http://ejohn.org/apps/learn/#2 Function.prototype.bind = function(){ var fn = this, args = Array.prototype.slice.call(arguments), object = args.shift(); return function(){ return fn.apply(object, args.concat(Array.prototype.slice.call(arguments))); }; }; Can anyone tell me why the second return is necessary (before fn.apply)? Also, can anyone explain why args.concat is necessary? Why wouldn't it be re-written as: fn.apply(object, args) instead of return fn.apply(object, args.concat(Array.prototype.slice.call(arguments)));

  • How to create an "endless" scrolling slideshow?

    - by Andrew
    I know a good bit of JS and I'm familiar with jQuery, and I'm trying to create an "endless" slideshow (like the one on http://thisismedium.com/), where the images scroll -- one right behind the other -- and when it reaches the end it loops. I don't really know how to start, so I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction. I created a slideshow before that automatically switched images and let you click Next and Previous, but I'm stuck here. =/.

  • How to add/remove rows using SlickGrid

    How to write such functions and bind them to two buttons like "add row" and "remove row": The now working example code only support adding new row by editing on the blank bottom line. <!DOCTYPE HTML> <html> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1"> <title>SlickGrid example 3: Editing</title> <link rel="stylesheet" href="../slick.grid.css" type="text/css"/> <link rel="stylesheet" href="../css/smoothness/jquery-ui-1.8.16.custom.css" type="text/css"/> <link rel="stylesheet" href="examples.css" type="text/css"/> <style> .cell-title { font-weight: bold; } .cell-effort-driven { text-align: center; } </style> </head> <body> <div style="position:relative"> <div style="width:600px;"> <div id="myGrid" style="width:100%;height:500px;"></div> </div> <div class="options-panel"> <h2>Demonstrates:</h2> <ul> <li>adding basic keyboard navigation and editing</li> <li>custom editors and validators</li> <li>auto-edit settings</li> </ul> <h2>Options:</h2> <button onclick="grid.setOptions({autoEdit:true})">Auto-edit ON</button> &nbsp; <button onclick="grid.setOptions({autoEdit:false})">Auto-edit OFF</button> </div> </div> <script src="../lib/firebugx.js"></script> <script src="../lib/jquery-1.7.min.js"></script> <script src="../lib/jquery-ui-1.8.16.custom.min.js"></script> <script src="../lib/jquery.event.drag-2.0.min.js"></script> <script src="../slick.core.js"></script> <script src="../plugins/slick.cellrangedecorator.js"></script> <script src="../plugins/slick.cellrangeselector.js"></script> <script src="../plugins/slick.cellselectionmodel.js"></script> <script src="../slick.formatters.js"></script> <script src="../slick.editors.js"></script> <script src="../slick.grid.js"></script> <script> function requiredFieldValidator(value) { if (value == null || value == undefined || !value.length) { return {valid: false, msg: "This is a required field"}; } else { return {valid: true, msg: null}; } } var grid; var data = []; var columns = [ {id: "title", name: "Title", field: "title", width: 120, cssClass: "cell-title", editor: Slick.Editors.Text, validator: requiredFieldValidator}, {id: "desc", name: "Description", field: "description", width: 100, editor: Slick.Editors.LongText}, {id: "duration", name: "Duration", field: "duration", editor: Slick.Editors.Text}, {id: "%", name: "% Complete", field: "percentComplete", width: 80, resizable: false, formatter: Slick.Formatters.PercentCompleteBar, editor: Slick.Editors.PercentComplete}, {id: "start", name: "Start", field: "start", minWidth: 60, editor: Slick.Editors.Date}, {id: "finish", name: "Finish", field: "finish", minWidth: 60, editor: Slick.Editors.Date}, {id: "effort-driven", name: "Effort Driven", width: 80, minWidth: 20, maxWidth: 80, cssClass: "cell-effort-driven", field: "effortDriven", formatter: Slick.Formatters.Checkmark, editor: Slick.Editors.Checkbox} ]; var options = { editable: true, enableAddRow: true, enableCellNavigation: true, asyncEditorLoading: false, autoEdit: false }; $(function () { for (var i = 0; i < 500; i++) { var d = (data[i] = {}); d["title"] = "Task " + i; d["description"] = "This is a sample task description.\n It can be multiline"; d["duration"] = "5 days"; d["percentComplete"] = Math.round(Math.random() * 100); d["start"] = "01/01/2009"; d["finish"] = "01/05/2009"; d["effortDriven"] = (i % 5 == 0); } grid = new Slick.Grid("#myGrid", data, columns, options); grid.setSelectionModel(new Slick.CellSelectionModel()); grid.onAddNewRow.subscribe(function (e, args) { var item = args.item; grid.invalidateRow(data.length); data.push(item); grid.updateRowCount(); grid.render(); }); }) </script> </body> </html>

  • Cross-reference js-object variables when creating object

    - by Ivar Bonsaksen
    Summary: I want to know if it is possible to do something like this: {a: 'A',b: this.a} ...by using some other pointer like {a: 'A',b: self.a} or {a: 'A',b: own.a} or anything else... Full question: I'm trying to extend MyBaseModule using Ext.extend, and need to cross-reference values in the extension object passed to Ext.extend(). Since I'm not yet in context of MyModule, I'm not able to use this to reference the object (See example below line 12). Is there any other way to reference values like this without creating the object first? 1 MyModule = Ext.extend(MyBaseModule, { 2 dataStores: { 3 myDataStore: new Ext.data.Store({...}) 4 }, 5 6 myGridDefinition: { 7 id: 'myGridDefinitionPanel', 8 bodyBorder: false, 9 items: [{ 10 xtype: 'grid', 11 id: 'myGridDefinitionGrid', 12 store: this.dataStores.myDataStore 13 }] 14 } 15 }); Or is the following the only solution? I would like to avoid this if possible, as I find it less readable for large extension definitions. 1 var extensionObject = { 2 dataStores: { 3 myDataStore: new Ext.data.Store({...}) 4 }, 5 6 myGridDefinition: { 7 id: 'myGridDefinitionPanel', 8 bodyBorder: false, 9 items: [{ 10 xtype: 'grid', 11 id: 'myGridDefinitionGrid' 12 }] 13 } 14 }; 15 16 extensionObject.locationsGrid.items[0].store = extensionObject.dataStores.locations; 17 18 MyModule = Ext.extend(MyBaseModule, extensionObject);

  • Open source / commercial alternative for jiffy.js?

    - by Marcel
    Hi, we'd like to measure "client side web site performance". i.e. we would like to have answers to the following questions: how long did it takt to load and render a webpage (including alle graphics scripts etc.) this bundled with additional informations like user-agent, operating system etc. a graphical tool to analyze the data would be perfect I know jiffy ( http://code.google.com/p/jiffy-web/wiki/Jiffy_js ) but that isn't maintained anymore. I would prefer either a hosted solution (like google analytics) or a java based solution that we deploy for ourselves. Do you know something like that? Thanks, Marc

  • Undesired "flashing" in Jquery dropdown menu?

    - by Tom
    Hi, I've got the following piece of Jquery: $("#collapse-menu > li > a").click(function() { $(this).toggleClass("expanded").toggleClass("collapsed").find("+ ul").slideToggle("medium"); }); What it basically does is expands or collapses a menu of nested "lists" which contain dropdowns (simplified example): <ul id="collapse-menu"> <li><a class="expanded">Basic Details</a> <ul> <li> <select> .... </select> </li> <li> <select> .... </select> </li> The code works absolutely fine EXCEPT when a large value is selected in any of the dropdowns. At that point, when clicked, the menu will still expand/collapse correctly but "flash" quickly while doing so, as if the entire element was being reset somehow. The data itself is fine but it's the flashing that's unwanted. The strange thing is that if a small value is selected in a dropdown, there's no flashing. When a large value is selected (say, above 30 in an age dropdown of 18-99), the flashing starts happening. Can anyone tell me why this is happening? Or whether there's something not right about the Jquery that's causing this. Thanks. UPDATE: Adding a bounty to this. Have tried a few similar plugins/solutions out there on the net but they all seem to suffer from this "flashing" problem when large dropdown values are selected by default. If it helps, here's a typical similar solution: http://www.i-marco.nl/weblog/jquery-accordion-menu/index_collapsed.html# ... but it suffers from the same problem when dropdowns are added inside the accordion. I hope someone has a clean solution, instead of needing to hack this somehow.

  • Custom drop down

    - by Rob
    I'm trying to create a custom drop down and using the code below it works pretty well - only one problem is if i have more than one drop down, all the links will only activate the first drop down. Any ideas on how I would fix that? (and yes I know about Suckerfish I just need to get this to work) function toggle() { var ele = document.getElementById("dropdown-items"); var text = document.getElementById("dropdown-menu"); if(ele.style.display == "block") { ele.style.display = "none"; } else { ele.style.display = "block"; } }
